  1. The same question applies to current cargo shuttle. Why does that Orion Express outpost ask for money and won't just send us those 15 extra shotguns? Do they not care about Einstein stealing Horizon? Are we not part of the same organization? But like. During events staff send more stuff on the cargo shuttle anyways, circumventing the ship's accounts and budget. Like during (iirc) the sol pirate events, they sent like lots and lots of ammo, but I'm sure there are other examples too. I imagine the elevator and budget to be more of a soft limitation for standard operation - budget that was allocated only to that specific shift. Can always fax CC to expand the budget, but that invites HRA to come in looking and investigating as to why did the OM buy 500 pizza boxes in this shift alone. There's also no reason as to why staff or event runners couldn't expand the budget for events (or... reduce it, or limit it somehow).
  2. I think a cargo elevator would be very very nice, and I agree with this suggestion. I think cargo bounties could just be moved to "deep storage", to be delivered later, by next shift or something, so they don't need any special new mechanics or code.

    Crew Memorial

IRL military memorials and memorial days (I would think) usually are either to military personnel dying while serving their nation, or civilians who died due to an invasion or war. Horizon crew is neither. Horizon was never really fighting some heroic war and protecting freedom of the spur and its people. It makes no sense for SCC to put a memorial on Horizon, cause it'd only be a reminder to other crew that they are all expendable and can be sent to die to protect company interests. The same company that can, and has done it in the past, cyborgify you if you act against it.

    Crew Memorial

I do not want this, if it has names of actual characters who died. I do not want people to OOC boast how many characters of theirs have died and were put in the memorial. I do not want to see any kind of OOC or IC drama about whether someone deserves or does not deserve to be put in the memorial. After all, why would SCC want all deaths to be put in there? How about crew with anti-corporate views, or outright acting against SCC? Or people who died in volunteer missions where the danger of death was known ahead of time? Or really any death that wasn't strictly defending Horizon or SCC interests. I do not think this would really promote any cool roleplay, and it'd mostly be just grim and depressing, given how many people have died and in what circumstances. It's pretty depressing to see SCC allow a memorial to people who have quite literally "died for the phoron company" and its interests. It would have a lot of names if it includes everyone, like 30 at least I'm sure, and that list will only grow as we go on with events. I also think it would be intimidating and exclusionary for new players or characters, and only show them all the events that they were not part of. It's not easy now to introduce a new character to the ship, and a memorial won't make it any easier. I could maybe be fine with this if it was just a memorial to anyone who died on duty, without actually listing out all the names.
  5. I feel this is just a very old thing (that maybe even made sense years ago), that no one noticed is a thing in all these years. Looking at the code, it was last modified almost 2 years ago when adding species specific age restrictions, but it actually was added... 8 years ago, maybe even before that. I'm 100% sure it will just be removed now that there's PRs up. I would be very surprised if it wasn't.

  7. I think this suggestion is nice. There is only so much you can do outside of actually being in game, with the in-room activities. Only so much extranet browsing, running in the hallways, watching movies, reading books. But it's also part of a bigger problem I think, being that Horizon is a ship that doesn't really go anywhere. It's disappointing in all sorts of ways, and I've been saying this for a while now. Remember when shore leave was introduced, near Elyra, and everyone was excited, people posting about it every day on the relay, and talking about it IC. And then shore leave was sort of forgotten, and after Badlands we've never really been to any interesting place until now Konyang. But Konyang itself, while cool, isn't really a very inviting place for shore leave, currently at least during the arc. With the IPC infection stuff, and my understanding is that we are confined to to the quarantined off spaceport district, so can't really venture out to travel all over the planet, or even really the city. I really wish we could have shorter and smaller arcs, but more focused.

  9. Sorry, I'm late, I should've set up a reminder. This thread is now a year and three days old. Happy birthday! How's the results of the poll and vote?
  10. Hi. I was one of the vaurca pirates, Za'Akaix'Oua K'lax. Also holding the position of a developer. I do not think there is anything wrong with any of these things mentioned here. I think admin intervention is fine, and it's not uncommon for admins to add antags if it's highpop and it rolls extended. I wish staff would involve themselves in rounds more commonly like this, but of course, not just making it a murderfest every time (but I think that's fine too from time to time). I don't think it's "hijacking the round", and if it was, I don't think there's anything wrong with that either - rounds don't have to always go exactly according to the script and gamemode description. I also don't think it was "unsatisfying and unpleasant", and looking at the vote and OOC after the round, it seems most players have enjoyed it. While I think the idea of the away site with antagonists is nice, the map itself is not following the current mapping standards, and the collection of gear on the map is very strange. It has a ton of weapons, but it's lacking in armor, for example. The map layout is just, bad, honestly, the base is huge, with only one entrance that is way too easy to defend. I want to do a remap of this site some time soon, make it nicer and more balanced. But why was it merged like this? Well. Currently it's just me actually reviewing maps, and this one sort of flew under my radar, in a time where I was less active on Aurora and more busy IRL. This is the first time I played it too, and second time I've seen it spawn at all, so I was not aware if the map layout or equipment bad balance-wise. I can only echo what Lent said. We chose Vaurca because we decided to play Vaurca in dsay and thought it would be fun, and I do not think there was a motive to powergame. I believe most of the other players in the vaurca pirates team also regularly play vaurca as crew on Horizon, me included. We have had an uplink spawned by admins, as well as the mechs, an ion rifle, and some sets of heavy armor - I do not remember anything else being spawned. I do not think Vaurca are OP - I think it's more just the gear we got was OP. In retrospect normal armor would've been better than heavy armor, and the mechs were too much. I did not spawn anything myself, only ahelped and provided paths, as devs do not have the powers to spawn things. But as others said, the gear was spawned after we've already spawned as pirates and started preparing, and I would imagine also after staff saw what Horizon was bringing to the assault. This thread is already big enough, so I'm just going to echo what with Lent and others have said. We did not vent horizon intentionally, or at least not maliciously - our ship was vented itself, and I think our airlock was not powered, so we had to enter horizon through a window anyways, and medbay was the closest window. We did not go out of our way to murderbone anyone, and as far as I've seen, we did not attack people who did not attack us themselves (other than some XO who refused to be taken hostage). We have basically just entered medbay, went into engineering, got some supplies, and left.
  11. I meant specifically using a pot and a coffee grinder. It's like a perfect thing to add to the Idris cafe to allow the roleplay of making artisanal coffee (vs currently just clicking a button on the automatic coffee dispenser). I think it's too generic of a mechanic to just be a custom item.
  12. I think this should be a normal item available to everyone in the loadout. Or mapped somewhere onto Horizon like to the top deck Idris cafe. It could be used on a lot of away sites or third party ships too, where the automatic espresso machines or whatever don't quite look right. (It could be a custom item I guess then too, but it shouldn't just be one character being allowed to brew coffee.)
  13. I am not saying to remove that room. I would just like it to be themed and usable for things other than CCIAA/HRA. IRs happen so rarely, that I just do not think dedicating a room like that to IR interviews and nothing else, is a good use of that space, when it'd just sit empty 99.9% of the time. HRA could still use it then, of course. Sure, we have the vacant office, but the vacant office is just that, a vacant office. It has very different vibes than this meeting room, which could be used for different types of gimmicks (antag, or non-antag) than the vacant office.
  14. This should not be a room restricted only to HRA/CCIAA use. It should be a general office or meeting room accessible to everyone, so it can be used for any fun gimmicks. Both by antags, but also non-antags like third parties visiting Horizon, or even just by crew who do not have their own offices to meet people in. Also, it also lacks a photocopier and a pen on the paper bin. The snack vender should not be there, it really does not fit there, and the drinks dispenser should be the coffee variant.
  15. It absolutely is bridgeable - by acting like a like an elevated secondary. Wealthier than other secondaries, more refined manners, better quality clothing and jewelry, doing jobs that primaries do (like command or science), and not roles that secondaries prefer (like ops, engineer, secoff). There are so many ways to show these differences that are more nuanced and interesting than just wearing the "I AM ELEVATED PRIMARY" accent tag badge. This applies to dregs too.
  16. I agree with DeadLantern's reasoning. I really do not like the idea of this accent (same as the reinstated dreg accent). I prefer when characters roleplay things like that out, note it in their flavor text, and make it a bit more nuanced than, like, the accent literally just telling you their backstory. I do not like when accents are treated as a origin/culture pronoun pins equivalent.
  17. I think this is a bit of a grey area. Probably the most "classic" player complaint is "this antag/secoff killed me with no RP, mods please ban/warn them", while for a staff complaint it could be "this admin banned/warned me and I disagree with that ruling". The templates for both complaint types ask for ckeys and round IDs too, so, I almost wish we had a third type of complaint, being a "community member complaint" or something of the likes, to report out-of-game stuff that happens over discord or forums. Anyways. In the end I went with a staff complaint, because I do not believe with the conduct that Sycmos is displaying, that they should continue to represent the staff team and our community, or to continue being a lore writer, participating in lore arcs with others, or making rulings on whitelists. Like, sure, everyone makes mistakes or bad calls, including myself, but what should happen next after such mistake, is admitting it and saying "okay I lost my cool, sorry". But Sycmos does exactly the opposite, doubling down, and adding fire to the drama. They continue to display the problematic behaviors that I am highlighting in this complaint, including inside this very thread. They say it is okay to be mean to others if what they say deserves that tone. They also accuse me of tone policing - if pointing out toxicity is "tone policing", then sure, I guess that is what it is.
  18. BYOND Key: N/A, this is all discord and forums. Staff BYOND Key: N/A, this is all discord and forums. Game ID: N/A. Reason for complaint: I have lately noticed Sycmos to engage in this kind of passive-aggressive talk, or vague-posting other users, or generally just being toxic, mainly on our discord servers. I don't think it's looking good, especially so considering they are staff (even if "only" lore-staff), they still represent the community and the staff team in how they behave. Staff may have been involved in some of the screenshotted conversations, but I think this is a bigger and continuing problem, and not just some isolated incidents. Even if this does not result in any action taken against Sycmos, this should still be helpful if the behaviors continue on in the future, to avoid digging through old logs and ahelps in that case. Evidence/logs/etc: Screenshots in the spoiler below, with explanations or dates or etc. Additional remarks: There were two screenshots from the staffcord, but I was told to remove them.
  19. I think these changes are nice. I like when uniforms are used and encouraged, cause they make the ship look like an actual organized ship with an actual crew who represent their corporations and positions, instead of just a collection of random people taken from the street. I hate the accusations of "punishing" players. No one is being "punished". It is accusatory, and makes it sound like the dev team is personally hunting down people and breaking their knee caps. This kind of toxic talk happens any time a balance change occurs, most notably in the recent medical nerfs and fixes. This is a balance change, and whether you pick a uniform with sensors or not, is your choice. Same as wearing a cool jacket instead of an armor vest as sec officer, or whatever else. You either like to play it safe and get a uniform with sensors, or prefer drip and to live a tiny bit more dangerously - and maybe stay more cautious as a result, letting other people better geared for the job to do the thing. Not to mention most jobs are at basically zero risk of dying anyways, like service jobs, or should be wearing the uniforms anyways, like security or command jobs. I would be fine with stuff like corporate branded suits getting suit sensors though, I think that would be a nice flavor thing.
  20. I think this is a good idea. Really annoying to see activity in the forum, and then open it up and it's threads from 2017.
  21. It's a very nice goal, but realistically, people are not going to randomly wander inside into that closed-off area just to have a look around, unless they have an actual reason to do so, like a meeting with a head/consular/rep, or if they are super bored and have nothing else to do. An office facing the public hallway drives engagement and invites people, if only just from the sole reason of being visible from the hallway outside. It allows for people passing by to wave "hello" to the XO inside and have a quick chat. And XO really needs that, being a head of staff who deals with the general crew's problems and complaints, and not having a department that needs actual managing like the other heads. In my time of playing XO, I'd have that happen basically every round, me in my office, people passing by and starting a quick chat even if they're on the job, like an engineer going to fix something. Currently the middle deck sees the most traffic (bar, kitchen, medbay, hallway outside of security), and this remap is not going to somehow magically route some of that traffic to the new open command area. It's only going to hurt XO's chance to interact with people, by pushing it further away from where everyone is gathered, and more isolated.
  22. I like the idea of a command remap, but, idk, ehh. It could be improved further. 1. There's a lot of dead space, marked in the pic in the spoiler, where it's just not really an efficient use of all that space in my opinion. I especially do not like the ugly storage area with the flags and the guns - it has no reason to be so center in the bridge and at the entrance, where everyone has to see it passing by. Also there's a lot of redundant waiting areas with tables and chairs everywhere. 2. The open area in the middle especially, is like, super awkward, in how open it is to every office, and anyone passing by or through. I cannot imagine comfortably hanging out in there. It has that weird zig-zaggy shape with the stairs and the raised platform... It's weird how it's the XO and Captain being on the lower level, while consulars are looking at them from above. It should be the other way around, the Captain and XO are the bosses here. 3. XO's office should stay at its current location. XO takes care of the crew's reassignments, accounts, problems, etc, so it is the XO who should be the "face" of the bridge, closest to the entrance, and taking in people even if the rest of the bridge is closed, during code blue or whatever. With this remap, the entrance of the bridge has a consular office on one side, and a representative office on the other. 4. If there are two consular offices, then one office shouldn't be "better" than the other. In this remap, consular A is clearly the better office, in how it has windows into the hallway so you can show your flags or banners or whatever to the outside world and anyone passing by, while the other office just, does not have that option. 5. The new conference room is alright, and I like its location.
  23. NT in engineering is not happening as it already has three departments. It would also be boring as hell, NT being the "default" corporation. I'd prefer we just add Orion to engineering too. It makes perfect sense. Orion needs love too.
  24. Selections are absolutely awful, and super inconsistent. Some items are in selections with lots of other items, meanwhile other items are just by themselves in the list. Like the cowboy hat is in a selection with 11 other hats, but there's two boonie hats that are separate entries in the list and aren't in any selections. There are examples of this in every category. It's completely inconsistent, non-intuitive, and illogical. I'm sure someone will come and say this is "fine" and worked okay for years, but it's absolutely not. It's only "fine" if you already know where all the items are. A hypothetical new user would have to click through all the categories and selections multiple times to figure out what items are available, if they are looking for a particular kind of look. I tried to implement a better loadout, with tags, where the end goal was to eliminate selections as well. But some members of the community did not like it, so we are stuck with the awful categories and selections.
