BYOND key: Dreamixpl Character names: Wulf Schassner, Graphite, Lindsie Vince, Lavonne Daveiga, Sybilla Savill, Mya Planchart, Vexillarius, Comitisse, Nutrice, Inquisitor How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since December last year, or January this year. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To provide some "commandership" when the station lacks it. Why did you come to Aurora?: It was the first server I joined to, stayed because of nice people. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Acting as a character, immersing in them. Maintaining realistic interactions between characters, like good pain and fear RP. I don't know how to explain it, but, just acting like that character? What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To provide assistance when other players do not have the knowledge of the job they are playing, or when they cannot do it because of IC reasons. To teach and correct other players through IC actions. To What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To counteract "dick" characters, to be sure that they are not too harsh. To make sure that every dead character is cloned, prisoners do not have brig timer's set for too long, to make sure that the station will be powered. Heads of Staff players must at least attempt to make sure that other players have a pleasant roleplay environment. Also, to give an example to other players on how to properly play a Head of Staff, or just how to play and correctly roleplay in general. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Nutrice Character age: 38 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Fourty years ago, [Redacted] founded a company, it's main focus was development and producing weaponry and arms. They were not going well for them, through they established a strong market and a set of buyers for their products. But, soon that would not be enough to pay for ongoing expenses, as other huge corporations such as [Redacted] were growing strong. [Redacted] bought some old AI cores from a unnamed Skrellian technology merchant for a cheap price. That was going to be a reversal of fate for the founders of this company, after selling all they had, an entire new department was constructed. A research one. They focused research on huge and bulky combat drones, for the military and private contractors/mercenaries. They advertised them as "Self-learning combat drones", these AI's were designed to learn and adapt to various battlegrounds, as they were not pre-programmed with any tactics or fighting schemes. Only one unit was produced, its designation was 4772 6170 6869 7465, "Graphite". If they only had a better advertising managers... They bankrupted. To minimize their debts, [Redacted] sold their only project to NanoTrasen for a cheap price, as no one else had shown interest in it. NanoTrasen allocated Graphite to one of their research stations, just adapting it to standard issue android chassis and running several synthetic personality tests. It was efficient, adapting, had its own personality, was updated on a steady rate. After some time, NanoTrasen scientist, [Redacted], who was assigned to Graphite, decided that it is ready for a project. Extensive sharding. Five shards were created. Vexillarius, extremely efficient warden. Comitisse, high born quartermaster. [Redacted], quirky scientist. [Redacted], [Redacted]. And of course, Nutrice, the chief medical officer. In [Redacted] weeks, Nutrice downloaded the most necessary medical databases and guides. Quickly, it assumed female gender and developed the instinct to care for organic's health. What do you like about this character?: Her care for organic's injuries, her wish to help others and teach them. What do you dislike about this character?: I may need to show "synthetic" superiority, sometimes, in some way. And I would need to refrain from imperfections when playing her. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Uh. Everything. I wrote the answers to the first two questions (OOC purpose and responsibilities) with having in mind how I would like to play her. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10, maybe 8/10, considering my slow typing. Extra notes: Why those questions overlap so much, I wish I could just copy-paste answers to half of those questions. Also, the backstory is quite detailed, yet is giving me some freedom to further create and develop my characters with that [Redacted]-thing.

Slc97 Head Whitelist ApplicationDreamix replied to slc97's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives I don't want to sound rude, but you mention "the war" in this character's backstory several times, can you clarify during what "the war" Sayek served? That just sounds like an another PTSD ex-marine security officer that fought in "the war". So, is he going to be a CMO? You didn't mention that he will, I think.

This looks awesome, but it may broke custom synthetic sprites. Aren't you taking too much on your shoulders? I mean, you already said that you will do This and This and other stuff. And don't you still need to write a coder/developer application?
-
That moment when it's your seconds round as a IPC, and you accidentally explode two other IPC's with an ion rifle, when you were just asked to try to open two locked crates. And all that when crew transfer shuttle was docked to the station >.< https://gyazo.com/d034cfb2915e5be106d1a83b1a3c9125

Hi. New, better sprites that actually work in-game! Pretty big images: (open in a new tab) Now, with code, 10 modules, fancy lights, maintenance panels +optional syndicate combat droid!

Well. Tobias is a fairly competent research director that actually cares about borgs and AI's. Samuel is a good head of personnel, too. I did not interacted enough with Saul or the rest to tell how good, or bad they are. However, Murphy is a good AI, cares about the crew and his borgs, tries to pull off gimmicks during malfAI's, and is generally good AI, without nothing to complain about. +1 Senpai, "y u no" include Murphy in your 'character names'-question?

BYOND Key: Dreamixpl Character Names: Graphite, Wulf Schassner, Lindsie Vince, Lavonne Daveiga, Sybilla Savill, Graphite, Mya Planchart Species you are applying to play: Integrated Positronic Chassis What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): ----- Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I mainly play Graphite, station bound synthetic. I would like a whitelist, in case of a roboticist or RD installing me into a IP-chassis. Also, when I entered the server after round-start and cannot join as a borg. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Everything. Freedom to make any robot, or a brain inside a robot. Ranging from medieval-like doctors, fully mechanical security robocops, pretty human-ey atmospheric technicians with their own synthetics relationships, mass produced units or just 'borged' human casualty RD's. Or space robo-furries, of course. Character Name: Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Graphite is a ex-military lawed android that has been bought by NanoTrasen from a minor private security and research-focused company after it went bankrupt. It's long-time memory has been wiped after it was decommissioned, being down-graded to a normal android, with its Graphite-class chassis being what is left of its military career. Graphite is operating on a special, autonomous operating system. It can adapt to its new roles, various circumstances, as it can learn by itself, basing it's behaviors on observations, hence why it "feels" the need to not hurt anyone, and operates well in a non-lawed chassis. It can also emulate emotions, based on the ones it observed during its interactions with various organic life-forms, that is the reason why Graphite refers to other synthetics as brothers and sisters and is trying to take care of them, because it observed some organics love their family. What do you like about this character? Graphite is behaving exactly how a station synthetic would behave, selecting the most needed modules every shift, talking like a proper robot, 'assisting' with stuff, doing things and opening doors when requested. If given a proper reason, of course. Or just generally being helpful. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 6/10, considering my really slow typing. Notes: -----

I don't really like the idea of filling Aurora with pets. But, if HoS really needs a pet, why it has to be an earth pet? Why can't it be diona nymph-like creature, or an alien dog of some sort.

So true. I just want to add something about the 'edgy officers'. Yesterday's mutiny round, captain ordered his officers to execute crew, infected with bluespace virus. They didn't even stop for a second, to think if that's good to execute your co-workers. In fact, they were begging for access to armory, since the first announcement. I was playing a borg, I was repeately flashed and put into a ID-locked closed after attempting to stop the execution. One of the infected crewmembers was executed while AFK'ing (he said later in the deadchat, that he left his character just for a minute or two). All really without any roleplay for non-security characters. Also, usual malf/traitor AI round. AI core gets rushed by security after a slight sign of malfunction, like AI that is talking strangely (that happened, AI had its laws reset'ed because it was talking like a medieval king). Borgs get flashed, or put into a lockdown. Again, without any Roleplay. I wish security could start roleplaying, instead of just playing to win, be robust and catch antags.

I intended it to be a thread, for minor complaints, or one-time antic/escapade, or for complainers that don't have logs of the incident, or really anything that does not warrant a proper player complaint. Not a thread to insult everyone for their bad roleplay. ...Okay
-
http://baystation12.net/forums/threads/the-godawful-rp-thread-3-greytide-rising.37/ For minor complaints that don't really warrant a proper player complaint. Self-explanatory, I think.

Can you add options for borgs/AI's? Nothing fancy: android, robot, cyborg and AI options in species and ethnic group. Also, station/law-bound synthetic in department, and station-bound AI/station-bound mobile AI in position. Or something like that. I don't really want to pick 'other' everywhere, and others also seem to be interested in adding borgs to the census. Mainly, there is Trixie already in there. I would like to add Graphite, too.

Staff: There is nothing really much to say about in-game staff, my ahelps were usually answered, griefers were banned, things happened how they should happen. However, there are some questionable antics on forum side of staff. Mainly about deleting posts, but that is probably being dealt with. Also, custom items applications are dead, quoting This's post: "no custom items until June 20th" Community: Stuff that irks me. Currently we are experiencing a sudden increase of low/medium-RP players: Players that include psychology of a character in flavor text, they may require linking to our flavor text guide. But they are trying, at least. There are also players that play over-powered ex-commando pirate ERT baddass-es, characters that are overly-qualified, IPC's that change professions (once round officer, another CE). That's just immersion-breaking. Captain/HoP/head characters that arrive as assistants are just "why?". "I have a well-paid job as a Captain, better arrive as assistant. Wait, there already is a Captain on Aurora? Better arrive as assistant, even if there are lots of other stations." Also, there are really troublemaking, goon-origin characters. Not griefers, not baldies, just characters that are constantly harrasing others, breaking into areas, ignoring regulations, and generally being dicks. They are doing things, that warrant security response, brigging and things, but not admin actions or a complaint. Every round. They don't even think "Should my character be fired for this?". I have a feeling that incident reports won't really help, as they do not really care. There is also a 'wave' of characters that do not want to 'rot in prison' after being told that it's just a 10-minute charge. Security officers are also a problem, lately, arrest are performed with 'no mercy'. "He might have a gun, better stun-baton-cuff him". No talking, just arresting. Security roles are not really played to role-play, but to catch antags, some regulars even say "If you can't drop somebody with two shots, you shouldn't probably play officer". I just want to role-play, not fear that officer will cuff me/antagg will shot me with a revolver while I am typing. There is also shit-curity characters, that are played like a main character in a game, "collecting" prisoners like points to raise a high score. Lately, I was even asked by a player, why I uncuffed him while her was in a cell. That player was probably used to shit-curity. Also, there are overly metagamey players. That can be mainly observed during malf-ai of some sort (traitor, malf, or laws changed). Generally, AI and cyborgs are considered as 'faulty' and prone to malfunction. Small sign of disobeyence is a warrant to storm AI core. I will quote B12 wiki: "AI's and Cyborgs are not normally known to malfunction", while on our server, it is exactly otherwise. Our lore even says that: http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=3150#p31692 There are also powergamey players, such as sciencists maxing research levels during the first 5 minutes of a round, or security/engineers that constantly wear 3 or 2 flashlights turned on, to have their screen fully lit in case of going into maints. There are also engineers that try to find door wires, during high-pop round, with AI and two borgs. "I will probably won't need to know door wires, as there is AI... But, what if AI will go malf? They malfunction everyday, right? Also, AI's and borgs are treated like game NPC's, "Borg, open this", or just forgotten completely. Also, I am pretty sad about those who recently left : ( I am aware that those issues are really hard to fix, even if said players care about incident reports you can't constantly fill reports on everyone, and Admins can't talk to everyone about things I just listed, and ban those who refuse to comply. I would like to apologise for probably bad grammar. English is not my native-language.

Can we even actually deconstruct these machines? I remember not so long ago trying to deconstruct science outpost's chem dispenser and move it to research lab, and there was no way to deconstruct. That might require some work to 'upgrade' these machines to allow deconstructing and upgrading them.
-
Yes. Jakers is indeed a server (forum, my bad) moderator. EDIT: Also: Basically: "Don't do anything, people won't change anyways, we don't need more of these threads. Oh, ahelp, because joking about others characters is soooo bad, and they all will be banned and things." Can we stop with that "people won't change, don't bother", please? EDIT2: (I don't want to up my post counter that much.) All my yes, +1's and agree's. I have even seen a 'lesbay' character join as CMO, see that aren't any other 'kawaii lesbays' on station, cryo, and ghost around until the next round.
-
...Did you even read Jakers's post? It was about OOC remark, not IC racism/prejudice. And, that was not about "fucking yourself", but trying to talk about the issue and actually change something, and not just "dealing with it" and "bad memes"? Also, Jakers is a server moderator.

I think you don't really understand the difference between 'suicidal space lesbian' and usual homosexual female/male. The second one, you wouldn't really distinguish from the crowd. But the first one is a lesbay nurse that only talks to other females, or that medical doctor that creates drama and kills herself after being rejected, or these female characters that are super secretly whispering, giggling, smiling and kissing in a dark corridor. "Nurse-senpai, hug me" "Snowflake-senpai, let's live together" "Senpai-sama, I love you. Uguu~" Or whatever. It's just ridiculous/amusing to watch that while ghosting. I don't really know how to express what I think, as english is not my first language. Please, don't hurt me.

But, imagine what happens if RD wants to lockdown borgs, but without robotics console. They send security on a manhunt with ion weaponry and flashes, and actually try to imprison borgs in a creative way like welding doors in front of security borgs or stuffing them into lockers so they can beg officers/scientists to let them go. Or maybe these borgs will actually care about their fourth law (survive) by hiding on the asteroid, while engineers are cutting off the AI control wire on external airlocks, so borgs can't go back onto the station. Now, they will just be lockeddown and forgotten. And they can't really RP with anyone, as when borgs are lockeddown, AI is close to getting intellicarded, and everyone is busy breaking into the AI core. And borgs need to beg 'that friendly roboticist' to come and place them into a charger. And crew's metagame is not really helping, too. "AI is talking strangely. That must be a malfAI. Rush upload." "Someone broke into tech storage. Must be ops. Ops change AI's laws. Rush upload." "That borg just closed a door in front of me. Must be traitor AI. Rush upload." (These actually happened.)
-
You know that when borgs are locked down, AI's are also intellicarded?
-
So, I am regularly playing borgs, and I have seen some malf AI's, traitor AI's and hacked AI's. Everytime AI is rushed by security, borgs get locked down, and both (or just borgs) are forgotten for the rest of the round. Yes, left to die out of boredom in that unfortunate location they were in, when they were locked down. I would rather want to explode, than be locked down.
-
In my opinion, warnings and bans shouldn't be issued by a moderator to posts, that were posted before approving of their mod-apps. Much like "Lex retro non agit" ("A law does not apply retroactively") -law. If admins and mods have not issued a warning to (for example) Delta/1138 two months ago, you shouldn't neither.
-
You are now my favourite person, Jack. You care about those, who almost no one cares about, borgs.
-
I can confirm what Sue said. I was one of the cadets that round. Please add that to the list: deconstructing the mining shuttle console and top levels of roleplay. When we were ordered by Baka's character to arrest them, we gently asked them to come with us. I wanted to add that it will be literally 10 minute charge, unless heads say otherwise. They then showed that they are on HRP server, by calling us "NERDS1" and walking away while insulting "shitcurity" and "bitchmason" on comms (I don't remember how exactly these insults were worded). Shortly after that, I was needed to cryo-self. They were so antaggy and meta/powergamey, I can't even. Seriously, cutting your own arm to not let security catch you, even if security=two girly, young cadets? Do cargo technicians even know how to perform surgery? And non-sterile environment is totally not a problem. And shuttle console obviously has a manual how to deconstruct it. There needs something to be done about that. And IIRC, that was not their first self-antaggy round.
-
I don't find it funny, it is very sad... "Except what actually happened was I got neglected in medical for 40 minutes and when I went to walk out I broke every bone in my head and died." Why medical did not care about him? And why the security officer shot Joey's head? Why?
-
I am not saying that I can make a better sprite, but can we at least keep the green-black-robotic feel/colour scheme our current pAI's have?
