Correct me if I'm wrong, but RCON also serves a purpose of not game ending someone for getting shocked once. It really frustrates me when Engineering, even with decent pop, just sometimes chooses not do RCON because "it's a waste of time" or "I don't want to do it because it's just annoying", and I find myself getting my hand ashed while trying to get to someone as a responder. People get shocked, accidentally or not, fairly frequently due to antag involvement, accidents, or people being stupid and playing with wires and so on. I really disagree with the notion that it's pointless. It is optional, but the same type of optional as Operations not handing out the goods in the warehouse to departments. It's part of the job, and if not done it negatively affects other players/departments and heightens the chance of them getting game over'd by a funny airlock. I would welcome any addition to make it easier to set up, there is a UI rework going around so hopefully it might just be a case of clicking a slider instead of typing in five 0's 20 times.

The dance floor is good at giving you eye strain. I would like to see it replaced with literally anything else, personally. A random idea, but a mini holodeck to set up a few tables/a large "feast" table/piano/etc would be somewhat cool, but not sure if that's too much.

Project Exorcism Episode 1 : Turf Wars (Feedback thread)
Ramke replied to wowzewow's topic in Completed Projects
Echoing this and those that said similar. It's obnoxiously bright to the point where it clashes a lot with what we have, and feels like shadows don't exist anymore. I don't necessarily mind the new sprites but the brightness/shading is not something that needs to be changed, in my opinion. -

Most of my fun recent medical experiences were when we were severely under-geared or didn't have basic things like handheld scanners, as that encouraged having the patient cooperate and explain what happened, what's hurt, what's bleeding, what's broken, what's wrong, etc instead of just left clicking them once and finding out everything while the hurt person can AFK. Medical scanners are basically already unavailable to departments unless they get shipped medkits though, to my awareness. That or they steal it from the shuttles/forensics autopsy/etc. Eitherway I wouldn't mind and personally would like them to be more rare since that, in my experience, encouraged two-sided cooperation instead of succumbing to the medical treadmill. The only thing I'd be wary of is perhaps getting a better way to determine bleeds if someone is unresponsive, and maybe upgrade the stethoscope to be more specific in terms of organ damage (i.e. right now it doesn't show heart damage iirc, and if there's any lung damage it will show "no respiration").

I don't support this at all. There is no point changing this because the radio channel is red as a holdover from however many years ago. It helps with OOC clarity, taking it at face value and going "this must mean I must make the department red" is a bit weird, especially as we still have a ton of issues with our current sprites not being up to date (bags are a different colour from their in-hand, can't roll down uniforms, etc.).

In terms of high-level perspectives, the biggest example that comes to mind is Ouerea, where the feudal government was overthrown by rebels to become a democratic society under the Hegemony. It was spurred on from human and Skrell influence, who originally helped the colony by establishing a colonial government. Unathi from there are typically a lot more lax to foreigners and have a growing trend of individualism rather than a focus on the community, though the typical clan structure still exists. There's also the Queendom, where gender roles were inverted in other to overcome the severe shortage of men after the Contact War, something that saved them from falling like the rest of the Kingdoms. Some of my favourite honour stuff for Unathi is actually the concept of pirate honour. Unathi pirates warp honour into something that fits them, but still have a sense of righteousness even if they do evil deeds. To give an example, raiding pirates might forcefully take slaves aboard their ship if they find their skills useful, but will nearly always release them after some time along with a weapon, some of the pirate's spoils and guidance on how to return to where they want to go. Same with taking spoils - most pirates would only take up to half of their target's goods as long as they are cooperative, and ensure rival pirates are able to return to the nearest docks if they surrender. I distinctly remember a passage that they would also treat their prisoners very well as long as they didn't try to escape, but seems like this might have been reworked since I've last seen it. Aut'akh is another example of how Unathi might act very different, where they abandoned the concepts of clans and leaders while instead forming leaderless communes. Unlike the vast majority of Unathi, they view augmentation as beneficial to one's spirit, rather than a massive detriment, going with a "the flesh is weak" mentality. An extremely distinct difference in their world view and general lifestyle.

Initially, it did not, but the main way she was indoctrinated into the belief was the seeds that the fire priest had planted. The prophet Juzida was known to provide extremely passionate and intense sermons, and I can only assume fire priests (that must recite every sermon before they become one) imitate his style. This would have left a lasting impression on Alrssi, compared to the typical Sk'akh sermons and religious activities which are more timid in comparison. If it's unusual, you remember it better. At first it was in denial, as Si'akh was branded an illegitimate faith by the Sk'akh church, and she did not want to entertain those thoughts believing it to be heretical as well. The switch was very gradual, with the difficult living reminding her of suffering, which subconsciously brought back the priest's words and slowly associated with Si'akh's beliefs. Bahard is a doomed city that's continuously heading towards extinction, so that only expedited the process. Since it's a heresy of the Sk'akh faith, most of her impressions of Sk'akh would remain other than the change in worldview introduced by Si'akh. The 5 stages of grief would apply here. For relationships with immediate family: it was a traditionalist family, but everyone worked together and tried to keep positive relations due to poverty. Alrssi would take after her parents' advice the most, looking (staring?) at them with respect. They were caring enough of their children, so a sense of close-knit family would follow. With siblings and such, it'd be a bit more casual, even involving rivalry. Traveling with a group of like-minded Si'akh believers indoctrinated her into the belief fully, and this is where she adopted the more ascetic lifestyle - not like there was much of a choice regardless when venturing with a group of Si'akh followers. She did take pity on those she treated, and at risk of regurgitating lore straight from the wiki she shared the belief that all Unathi were damned. She did share that mindset with those that were willing to talk, but didn't push the topic if they were dismissive out of fear of provoking conflict in an already desperate location, and the IAC probably wouldn't want a preacher volunteer agitating the patients. In the end, repentance is something she stated that she was doing, along with encouraging others to do the same passively. She did work alongside Unathi, and that is where she also saw humans and Vaurca (Mi'kuetz) for the first time. While originally skeptic, seeing their mission, work and actions spoke louder than the prejudice you might expect from a peasant witnessing aliens properly for the first time. She was aware of other religions, and certainly dealt with Th'akh, while viewing them with pity, as they had the "wrong" worldview, and are doomed to stay in the Chained Wastes. Other species she had been introduced to after she left Moghes, but does not have extensive exposure to them. I was hoping to leave this to develop on-ship. The only exception to this is IPCs, who she views as soulless automatons. Not aggressive, but don't view them as anything more than tools. I should have specified this in my writeup but neglected to add the word, it is an IAC ship - went from an IAC hospital in the wasteland to a ship working for the same organisation through connections. Half of the latter half of the question was answered in the previous question, but to specify on Moghes and the Spur: seeing Unathi of different cultures and worldviews settled on other planets reinforced the view that Unathi are doomed to reincarnate, as they continue to repeat the process of allowing wickedness to fester in new locations, which Sk'akh will eventually end in a similar catastrophe as Moghes, or its settlers will end up being reincarnated back in the wastelands to suffer. Alrssi does not consider other species cursed, rather that it is the Unathi's burden, and acknowledges that they will have their own beliefs and afterlife to return to.

BYOND Key: ramke Character Names: I've got a lot but my most notable recently are Zahri Rahqarkir, Avelka S'rrenikir, Nasira Nahnikh, Ahari Zerikanh, Takiyah Nihalkir and Ka'Akaix'Zrin Kl'ax Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Sand yellow / Bahard Cream on wiki Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: It's very different compared to what I played before, and I am looking for new experiences. I absolutely love playing religious characters and having seen a certain few Unathi characters recently has inspired me to seek to make my own. The sheer mentality difference compared to what I usually play (Tajara) is something I imagine I will find fun to switch to. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Unathi are heavily dictated by tradition, honour and clan values as opposed to humans, which are significantly more lax. A significant shift in perspective is needed to play them, as you would view things very differently compared to a human (i.e. being dishonest as a male is not only disgraceful, but risks your clan's standing). Unathi are very communal and focused towards their community and clan, and their motivations are often intertwined with their community's needs and wishes. They also have distinct behavioural quirks, such as staring actually being seen as a sign of respect, as well as a lot more unspoken signs such as baring your neck to accept defeat or guard it to show defiance, tail stomping, etc. Lastly, their whole world view is shaped by the Contact War, and how their home is now mostly dominated by radioactive hellscape. Character Name: Alrssi Searkihu Please provide a short backstory for this character: Alrssi Searkihu is a female Unathi born a few years after the Contact War began on 2442 in Bahard, Moghes to an impoverished clan. Pre-war, clan Searkihu was relatively well-off, and most of its members found employment taking care of their clan lord's vineyards. After the nuclear exchange, however, the clan's main source of income and reputation fell apart as the vineyards fell to the radioactive soil, and the clan quickly turned impoverished. With many clan members lost to the war, the situation was dire when Alrssi hatched. Alrssi had a rough childhood, with the clan barely scraping by granted Bahard's overall situation. Many worked any jobs that they had available, and most of the money went to the Clan Lord in taxes or the clan elder, who was responsible for the clan's finances. Alrssi, when old enough, helped with typical household tasks, assisting her mother with chores in her teen years. She was brought up by the teachings of the Church of Sk'akh, and followed the beliefs as any clan member was expected to. While walking across town one day, Alrssi overheard a Si'akh fire priest providing a passionate sermon, and stayed around to listen. She was enthralled in the words, giving meaning to the suffering she was experiencing, the state of the city making more sense. This was before the crowd was dispersed and the fire priest beaten up and tossed out the city gates. The thoughts were shoved aside in fear of being discriminated against, but not forgotten. When reaching the age of maturity, Alrssi began working any jobs available to her, much like the rest of the clan. She found employment with the clan lord's estate as a housekeeper. But it was clear that it was only going to turn worse as houses and streets became less frequented, and sand piled further against the walls. The fire priest's words kept coming back as hardship followed, before eventually finding the courage to breach the topic with some of her clan members. The reaction was mixed, with one admitting they shared the same belief in Si'akh, while others raised concern. By that point, word got out, and the discrimination started full-mast. Not'zar's Guwan reforms had passed just before, so the clan elder was unable to take immediate action, but privately told Alrssi that her presence would be a detriment to the clan's well-being, and encouraged her to leave on good terms to find another way to contribute to the clan. The clan lord would likely catch wind of it soon and remove her from her position. Taking the hint, Alrssi sought out the growing Si'akh community within the city, and eventually departed with a group to the wasteland. She found the clan leader's decision distressing, but had agreed to find a way to contribute monetarily or some other applicable way out of the feeling of duty and wellbeing of her family. The grou had traveled for a long time enduring many hardships, seeking to follow Si'akh's footsteps, before they came across a settlement in the wastes. Alrssi took aboard more and more of Si'akh's ascetic principles to follow throughout the journey, such as only eating raw meat and drinking only water. At the settlement, encouraged to seek personal redemption, Alrssi found and joined the local IAC education centre, and after a fair bit of time learning medical care, began volunteering for the triage hospital in the settlement. Alrssi volunteered at the hospital for a few years before finding an opportunity to be employed elsewhere through connections, acquiring a way off the planet to earn income and contribute to her clan. She worked on the ship for a year, traveling from place to place, before realising the paltry sum she was earning would not be enough to keep her clan and family afloat, and the elder remained unhappy. Looking for opportunities elsewhere, she sent out applications to a variety of different locations looking for medical workers, before getting accepted as a first responder to a ship under NanoTrasen's contract - the SCCV Horizon. What do you like about this character?: The background offers a story that heavily weighs on the character's decisions, mentality and worldview. Si'akh is my favourite religion by far of the main three, and I wanted to make a religious character that relates to it. A bittersweet connection to the character's clan adds some internal conflict to the fray, How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think I roleplay okay. Could always be better, could be worse. Notes: If something is incorrect or the concept is flawed in a particular way, please let me know and I will correct it.

An interview might be better. It was too chaotic, please bear in mind we had three troublemakers, two of which were constantly causing trouble, alongside combat drones, other minor incidents relating to poisoning, a constant nuisance in the brig causing trouble the entire shift and everything was happening all at once. One of them isn't mentioned as they aren't part of the report. Samantha started causing problems by littering cigarette butts everywhere somewhere after the beginning of the shift, about an hour in. This one noticed it in one occasion, other officers noticed it on other occasions, the other Investigator (cannot recall their name, eridanian) pointed this out over radio that they might get fined for littering. Then they started doing it intentionally. In front of officers, in front of people. It took a bit of time but we agreed to finally arrest them and give them the littering charge. This one wasn't present for the first arrest, but she heard it was "handled" by the warden or one of the officers on-shift. She overheard another officer arguing with them over the arrest, and they were refusing to come with - was close, but did not hear Samantha's story. The officer was Nemo Vaillancourt she believes. She was called off to the bar for an unrelated security incident, so didn't hear the rest. This one doesn't see the first charge on their records, so this wasn't handled. There was a lot of chaos so it's likely that it got slipped by or they were told off or something else, but that charge should be there because it was obviously malicious in nature. Eventually, after some time and a lot of stress from other calls, this one went upstairs to her off-duty colleague Clark Coldsmith to unwind on deck three, at the cafe. She spoke with him for an entire minute before Samantha comes up, and the first thing she does is to throw another cigarette butt down to Deck Two in her full view, as if intentionally within her eyesight. This one believed she was charged already, so she stands up and asks them to pick it back up. Samantha "tries". By trying to climb under the railing that prevents them from dropping down. From deck three to deck two. They obviously fall as it's not an arm's reach but a steep drop. They were obviously playing this up as well, so it looked to her as if it was some sort of suicidal joke they wanted to pull. Clark witnessed all of this alongside her. Ahari rushes down, they were gasping and coughing up blood, so she quickly picks them up and rushes them to Medical. The surgeon there, Jimena Zhu she believes but not 100% certain, immediately takes them to surgery. This one didn't have access, so she didn't stick around and let the surgeon operate in privacy, and went back to deck three after another unrelated security call. Welstrom comes up the stairs again, and plays dumb when this one continues to pursue the same request: pick it up, it was obviously malicious, and they refuse. They tried to spin the story as if it is this one's fault for them getting injured, and Ahari should give them a break. She asks them around five times before this one loses her patience and tells them Samantha is going to get charged instead, so we're heading to Security. Samantha starts taunting her, calling her racial slurs ("Kitty's got claws!"). They start running after this one grips them by the shoulder, and after a brief attempt to convince her without force and just with grips, she took out her baton and stunned them enough to put hand cuffs on them. Ahari doesn't know why this person is working here because they're treating the ship like a children's playground, and as if nothing matters. This is where Angelica Nuon starts coming in. She arrives at the scene, comes up right next to her, grabs Ahari by the shoulder as she's trying to pick Welstrom up, and shoves this away from Samantha. Ahari comments on it, obviously not happy with getting interrupted, and they say it was a mistake, "cybernetics and all that". She shrugged it off the first time, then they approached her and did the exact same thing again as Ahari tried to pick Samantha up. That was interfering with an arrest. This one manages to grab them despite their intervention, and carried Samantha over to the brig to get charged. She mentioned that the charges should have been verbal abuse, resisting arrest and littering, but only verbal abuse was added. There were ever more security calls, so this one never had the chance to double-check the charge. Clark witnessed the interference alongside another friend of his, cannot recall the name. Ahari, meanwhile, requested a warrant for Angelica Nuon as they were intentionally interfering with the arrest, shoving Ahari around as she's quite literally trying to do pick up Samantha. This one asked for a warrant, but the XO stated that there's another incident that demanded the crewman to be on the bridge due to a very active danger to the ship. After some time, we hear the XO on the security channel going "OK, arrest Nuon, she's disobeying her orders" or something among those lines. This one learned that they were ordered to stay on the bridge to be ready for a threat (which turned out to be real), and they just walked out of the bridge instead, abandoning her post, and we found her outside the XO's office using the ATM. We (alongside Officer Isabeau) told Nuon we need to talk, and Nuon immediately said she's going to the Brig and she knows what it's about. This one didn't follow as frankly her patience was tested too many times already that shift, and another officer volunteered to help process. They only got charged with battery, but not for literally abandoning their post while the ship was in danger. The XO might have more information or clarify this better. Her involvement ended after she was called yet again to another security incident that required rapid response to the Intrepid through a teleporter. Ahari would really like them to get their charges amended, and to see if anything else can be done to help them, as this is not how any member of a corporate ship should act. Especially not jumping off ledges as some sort of joke, maliciously disobeying orders and even exaggerating the crimes, interfering with arrests and even abandoning the post while in danger. It's clear that just getting these charges doesn't discourage them from this behaviour. Submitted Evidence: N/A Would you like to be personally interviewed?: [x] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: All of Command. It was extremely chaotic and everyone was hands-on, but this wasn't enough. Actions taken: Charges filed, but not accurate. Told off, but no effect.

Crown Secures Further Deal to Safeguard Her Majesty's Mercantile Flotilla's Future 14.12.2464 Following the negotiations reported ten days ago, the Crown has now announced that it has secured a second deal with the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate regarding Her Majesty’s Mercantile Flotilla. Following the reports to the Parliament from a few months ago, the Flotilla has been steadily incurring negative profits caused by the Phoron crisis, and a solution has finally been found. The fleet will now spend a significant amount of their interstellar shipments for the SCC in exchange for a more steady profitable income, and the Conglomerate will cover the fuel, repair and escort fees that the ships will incur during contracted voyages. The majority of the Flotilla will now be expected to fly shipments on behalf of the SCC in various regions of space, along with occasional specific orders from individual members of the Conglomerate. Idris Incorporated was a major proponent of the deal. As a result of negotiations, Idris subsidiary Caishen Jewellers has expanded on its original partnership by receiving exclusive rights on certain luxury exports, such as the watches made by artisan watchmakers in Baltor, and polished gems extracted from the mines based in the Zarr’jirah Mountains. It is expected that the fleet will spend most of its time shipping goods across the Corporate Reconstruction Zone. Queen Shumaila, as part of the announcement, has stated that a rotating part of the Flotilla will remain without a contract to ensure that the Crown can commandeer it for special tasks or shipments. This part of the flotilla will continue operating as before, importing and exporting the Kingdom’s goods to off-planet communities and partners, with the occasional Crown-mandated shipments during celebrations and events. This deal has been met with mixed feelings in the parliament. Grand Duke Akym Yudenikh praised the quick negotiations, while some members of the parliament expressed disappointment that the flotilla was not used for a better purpose. Grand Admiral Mahtra Dynhaas seemed particularly displeased, complaining about the priorities shifting towards megacorporations rather than the Kingdom and its people. Prince Serhiy Oliinyk seemed to be satisfied with the terms of the deal, but advised to keep a watchful eye on the operations to ensure it is not abused by the megacorporations.

Megacorporations Downscale Business in Crevus More than a few businesses have been noticed shutting down, and certain services are no longer being offered by the megacorporations residing in Crevus. A number of Idris-backed storefronts have closed down, and some business owners that rely on external supplies have claimed that their stores are struggling due to the constantly decreasing flow of goods coming into Crevus caused by the scarcity of phoron inflating the prices of transit. Stores that previously had large varieties of expensive and luxury products from off-world, namely from the Getmore Corporation, now have their shelves remain half-stocked, and sections cleared as deliveries become more scarce. Some of these shops have started looking elsewhere for their goods, seeking to import locally from different continents to substitute their exotic offerings. One of Hephaestus’ subsidiary projects to expand the tram network in the city has been placed on hold as parts necessary for its development have not arrived, leaving the half-built tracks stuck without use. What will happen to the project is unclear. The megacorporations’ representatives have all attributed this to the cost of freighter traffic increasing significantly, making it economically unviable to pursue certain avenues of investment in Crevus. Promises have been made to ensure it does not fall further and cause a recession. The National Assembly appeared to respond positively to this phenomenon. Megacorporation-sceptic public figures and lawmakers, notably from the Adhomian Blue Party, have praised the downscaling of their operations and businesses now sourcing things locally. Bakhteiarova Mirzakhani stated that this is a step in the right direction, requesting that more enterprises in Crevus take inspiration and find products from the rest of the Republic instead of relying on alien corporations. The Mayor of Crevus, Mazula Azaula, has said that the city’s administration will assist local shop owners in helping negotiate with the corporations to minimise impact and ensure goods keep flowing.

Her Majesty’s Mercantile Flotilla Reports Issues 07.07.2464 A report of Her Majesty’s Mercantile Flotilla has reached the Parliament today indicating issues with the upkeep of the flotilla. It is becoming a nearly regular occurrence that various ships of the fleet suddenly end up over their projected spending budget after purchasing enough fuel and hiring escorts for their route. The vast majority of the flotilla use phoron-based drive for long distance travel, which is currently causing the trading companies significant problems in terms of generating income. With the price of phoron on a steady climb, the flotilla’s profits have been on an opposite trend, with it projected to stop earning any profit within a month. Having noted the urgency, the Parliament spiraled into discussions as to what could be done to remedy this. Grand Duke Akym Yudenikh proposed to get in contact with megacorporations to secure better deals with them, using the cost of transit as leverage to gain better contracts for the flotilla to offset the costs. He suggested that getting into another partnership with the Stellar Corporate Conglomerate would be a good choice, especially as some of its members are the major clients for the flotilla’s ships. Yudenikh’s statements were interjected by Grand Admiral Mahtra Dynhaas, who stated that shackling Her Majesty’s flotilla to foreign corporate interests was the opposite of what they should do. When questioned by Prince Serhiy Oliinyk on what they should do instead, Dynhaas eventually said that if the flotilla is unsustainable, then they should just mothball the ships and divert the funds back to the Royal Navy and the Maritime Company to promote trade locally. Count Tscherim Sanguszkho proposed to convert the flotilla for a different purpose - refit them militarily to be able to enforce the New Kingdom’s orbit instead. Some members of the Officer’s Party showed agreement, but members of the Commoner’s Party seemed equally displeased. Prince Oliinyk asked how that would help solve the economic situation, to which the Count started to rant about implementing space taxes. His rant was eventually interrupted by Her Majesty, who requested to start voting on the proposals. The proposal to seek establishing a partnership with the SCC passed, with the majority of the Royal and Commoner parties voting in its favour. The Officer’s Party and the Fraternity had their votes split between weaponizing the Flotilla, or mothballing it. The Crown will now seek to negotiate with the SCC in order to establish a mutually beneficial deal.
