I don't get the balance concerns because we've just had a swathe of medical nerfs come through, and more being considered. One of the developers asked to outline these concerns and arguments when you make the thread, if you could? It's been mentioned before that the FR hardsuit has clear downsides - slowdown, loss of a backpack slot. It's also been mentioned that putting on the FR hardsuit on round start is ahelpable. LVS brought up very good points regarding QoL and EVA/hazardous rescue, and I agree with them.

I don't think they need nerfs either. Antags have plenty of tools to work around it as Evandorf said, Lings can paralyse and turn off sensors while they're sucking, antags can turn them off at gunpoint or in cuffs, radio jammers, etc. I will be honest, I think the only thing the current set of nerfs that will go through will achieve is that the blame game over "why aren't you sitting in the box and watching sensors" will increase. Nobody who actively plays the game wants to do that.

Remove Borging as a Punishment and change "execution" guidelines
Ramke replied to N8-Toe's topic in Rejected Policy
I will give my thoughts as I tend to have to deal with this as CCIA. Cyborgification is used as a last resort and on the scale of execution, when: The person has committed a very severe crime, refused to de-escalate, was threatened by it, remained uncooperative in custody and still continued without seeking compromise. The person is uncontainable (escaped several times, or in the event of i.e. changeling/vampire who veil walks/armblades out of cuffs and slices through walls, antag who shoves C4 out of their ass multiple times, etc.) The last few canonical cyborgifications resulted in severe pushback from certain crew, so I disagree on the apathy. I can imagine as an antagonist you may face less care than canon cyborgification, but I would assume this is because either nobody knows your character, you've (or your goals have) been difficult or impossible to sympathise with, or haven't interacted with the crew in a positive light at all. This builds up a negative opinion of you, so from a bystander that may have a negative view on cyborgification, they may dislike it. But why would they try to actively intervene against someone who is, from their IC view, an antagoniser who's not a good presence aboard the ship, has no relation, and committed severe enough crimes to warrant it? While it may be un-fun for the antagonist, this is the same as getting marooned or executed. You're being removed from the round. You can still play as a cyborg, or ghost out. It is to my awareness (I may be wrong) that if cyborgification is used without a viable reason, or you've offered viable alternatives that aren't being entertained (i.e. promising to spill the beans, cooperate fully, etc.) this is something that can be ahelped. All of the above applies for marooning as well. As for adding anything, I believe it adds quite a lot to the setting and the lore. As Aphelion stated, many different factions and characters have a strong opinion on cyborgification, and the conflict that plays out regarding this is a direct contributor. The fear of cyborgification should be present, and contributes to the setting knowing that corporate forces are ever-powerful, can and will exercise the power to perform it if you are considered too much of a waste. It's a realisation of corporate power, and feeds into every character's opinion of the corporations. If you say the last canon mutiny's outcomes of cyborgifying the worst suspects did not add anything to the server and setting, I don't know what to tell you. -

I love the original suggestion purely because the various severities would add a bit of complexity and depth to bone breaks, as well as giving physicians more work to do as opposed to sending everyone off to surgeons as it so frequently happens nowadays. The possibility of fucking up is pretty nice, too. Another suggestion on the side, and no idea if this is easy to implement, should probably add "bone scarring" the same as we have organ scarring, maybe less severe but a -5 to overall bone break threshold after doing surgery would make sense, as right now after using the bone healing gel they're perfectly fine and as strong as before without giving time to heal. Maybe a dull pain while it heals? (not actually pain, just a flavour message about soreness). The calcium suggestion I'm not so sure on, it would definitely be better to have it separate as so no one could accidentally decide to get a fortnite chug jug full of milk and get their bones to a misaligned state. If the bone healing juice is in vendors, it would be completely fine, and wouldn't invalidate the physician unless there was a pharmacist.

Feedback: New Loadout / Tag Based Categorical Loadout
Ramke replied to Zelmana's topic in Discontinued Projects
After trying this for a few days I've.. not changed my opinion and think this system is extremely clunky and unintuitive, as well as overwhelming with the amount of options and clunky need for combinations. To provide an example: I'm thinking of creating a Himean Tajara, so I want to see what himean options there are for them. So I go for the view that Tajara players can get as a result of a whitelist (which was all in one place before), I click the Tajara tag. Nothing shows up. Then I have to click the "no species restrictions" tag to remove it manually, because for some reason you can combine "restricted" and "no restrictions". I then get presented with the old list, but filled with non-Tajara augments and other cross-species items, making it much worse than the previous loadout system. So I try to narrow it down with a search. The search barely works and errors out occasionally, on top of not just being able to press "enter" to search: The search also does not find what you need unless you have the right tags selected. There's no general or "broad" search. Removing all the tags removes all the items. Unless there is and I'm just silly? I was still unable to find what I was looking for: But it's there in the list. The search just doesn't pick it up. I assume it's because I don't have the right origin selected? Why is it greyed out if I'm looking for items that are restricted to Tajara and just want to find a hit for "himean"? How is a new player supposed to figure this out if they're trying to inspect the options before making the character? To say the old system is confusing to new players might be right because we have a ridiculous amount of loadout items, but if someone who's familiar with the lore and remembers loadout item names struggles to use this, I find it hard to believe a new player will have better luck with a more convoluted menu. You may call me stupid, but in this case consider me the low bar on how stupid people would interact with this menu. Now combine that with not knowing what they were beforehand. I have to agree with all the other feedback in the thread, barring the PR creator's. If the intention is to create a system easier to narrow things down and find things you want exactly, what's wrong with just adding a global search and keeping the old system? -

I love the looks so far. The garden and deck 3 (aside from hallways, mentioned below) looks fantastic. The gold accent on Command airlocks is great. Hangars look very cool, so do the docked ships. My criticism is that the floor types are very bright and washed out now, to the point where it starts hurting the eyes. It feels like the old lighting testmerge a few months ago, and clashes with the brightness of the walls, grates and surroundings to my mind. The main areas I dislike are the medical lobby (seems to have a lighter shade of green than the rest of medical), security and general hallways (because of the clashing contrast between walls, grates & surrounding sprites). In my opinion they could do with toning down the brightness and contrast. Some sprites (i.e. the wooden chairs at the big dining table in the dining area beside the kitchen, the tables with wood flooring) are difficult to see because it's nearly the exact same colour as the floors.

[Feedback] Prevent Hivebots Spawning Without Armoury Access
Ramke replied to Sparky_hotdog's topic in Archive
A single engineer can take out a hivebot swarm by just placing an emitter tactically, while remaining completely safe while doing so. Security can find ways to find guns, or ask Ops to order some if there's absolutely no way, etc. I don't see a need for this personally. This would make an already rare, but very fun event already rarer. The round that prompted this thread was a case of poor planning and execution, which caused the attacking force to die, from my understanding. -
I support removing them from the secret rotation until the fabled rework/rebalance. Geeves had a fantastic PR changing some core concepts but it didn't go through, not sure why. I'd rather not really see it randomly chosen until something's done to it.

Hi, sorry, didn't realise this was a Tajara application from the title! I have a few more questions for you to answer: 1) What religion, if any, does Khar’dassa follow? What does she think of the others? 2) It's clear that Khar’dassa is a patriotic follower of the PRA, which school of thought would she align herself the most to? 3) What are her goals now that she is aboard the Horizon?

Hi, neither a +1 nor a -1, just some constructive feedback. I've just played a round with you and noticed that you generally treated patients.. very quietly. Without a word, even. I think some of the patients even got mad at you because of wordlessly dragging/shoving into scanners. I fully understand if it's hectic or critical, but it would be a good impression if you roleplayed with your patients a bit more and let them follow you around or enter scanners on their own by request, rather than ctrl click and dragging them around when they don't have crippling life-threatening problems during green alert. The chef is what I've personally witnessed. The medical channel was very quiet and we had to figure out most of the information ourselves, but I'm not sure if that's because Command wanted to keep it quiet and away from Medical's knowledge so I'm not passing judgement there, but it keeps the department engaged if they generally know more.

Add normal Saline + parenteral nutrition packets!
Ramke replied to Star Dust's topic in Suggestions & Ideas
Saline is one of the cheapest chems to make because its main ingredient is just water which pharmacists can get from the tap in the pharmacy. Phoron is used as a catalyst and is not consumed at all, so it's not a waste. I wouldn't mind seeing these but I'll be honest, I don't think they'll ever see use. If they're too critical to stand up and have a snack or drink from a bottle of water, medical isn't going to worry about the nutrition. Neither is the patient. I can count the number of times a patient mentioned hunger/thirst on a single hand from years of playing in medical. -

Hi, thanks for applying! I have a few questions and comments relating to the backstory: Could you clarify how this would have played out to Volod? Bear in mind, despite the DPRA being the most progressive in terms of rejecting the caste system, there would still be discrimination against Zhan in leadership roles at the time. It might be better to change this. Volodymirr (inspired by Vladimir?) is a very masculine name, could add an -a to make it more feminine. Alternatively, you can always try to kitbash names together by just typing random stuff into the Siik'maas translator and constructing a name from the words there. As well as some questions: 1) What religion does Volod follow, and how much does it matter to her? 2) What role will Volod work as aboard the Horizon? 3) Does she support any particular political parties in the government? Would she support juntas or the civilian government? 4) You mentioned Volod is questioning whether her impression of NKA/PRA are propaganda. What does she currently think of Royalists, Hadiists and their regimes?

Minharrzka Maritime Company Innovation Unveiled 29.06.2465 The Minharrzka Maritime Company has revealed its new project that has been in development since the beginning of this year. The unveiling was a televised event organised by the company as part of its experimentation with potential new uses for ageing ships. The specifics of the innovations were not announced to the general public until the demonstration. As an experiment, depreciated frigate-class vessels that have been due to come out of service have instead been heavily modified by the Maritime Company and retrofitted with a set of six heavy industrial legs designed by Hephaestus Industries, originally intended for mining walkers in high gravity planets. Due to the steep power requirements and size of the mechanism, the ship had to sacrifice large parts of its sections to allow for the legs to function. In the following press conference, a representative of the company has stated that the innovation is part of a series of new developments that will take the New Kingdom to a new age in the coming months. The news and demonstration has been met with mixed reactions. A small number of interviewed sailors found the design to be cramped and an insult to tradition, mentioning that ships belong on the sea; to change this is to attract misfortune. During parliamentary discussions, Grand Admiral Mahtra Dynhaas praised the innovation as a way to give old ships new tactical advantages, allowing them to reinforce shores as a bunker behind terrain or assist offensives deeper than what coastal bombardment would allow. Field-Marshall Vyakelas Klyuchevsky replied stating that this is a wasted effort, and the resources could have been spent on manufacturing better land vehicles rather than turning boats into dysfunctional ones. In the middle of the argument, Count Tscherim Sanguszkho commented that the Ancient Tajara had vehicles that can fly and cross any terrain, requesting that more research should be done to make the ships be capable of flight as well. The Parliament was brought to order by the Queen, who then stated that sensible military innovation was welcome in any regard. A small number of select frigates will be retrofitted to the new design for further field testing, with one assigned to the North Pole.

To echo and respond to some thoughts here with my own: - I agree with Ping wholeheartedly. Specialised meds are a banefit that helps a physician, but not a requirement. All stabilisers aside from Dex+ (which is not mandatory, there are workarounds that work just as well already available in GTR, i.e. stasis bags/beds, dexalin, adrenaline, lung jabs and pneumalin) are already in pill/inhaler form and in abundance - most people also just dilute the pills for easier hypo injections. This is not including the RNG aspect of Ops sending you combat medkits with dex+ and all the other goodies as well. - Some people find pharmacy work boring and they would not want to deal with this obligation. I personally love it and hate surgery, but the inherent issue with pharmacists is that after you put everything into the fridge (which takes ~10-15min for a pharm main), you are now a potted plant for the rest of the round unless it's so chaotic you HAVE to step in. The reason I would support merging physician and pharm, but keeping it separate from the current Physician (alt title, rename pharmacist, something like that) is that it will allow those who enjoy the chem minigame to continue enjoying it, but it opens the door to have gameplay for the rest of the round as well. It would also avoid the super doctor meme, and any OOC upset that it may cause. I feel like this would hopefully address Peppermint's points. I personally disagree that there should be more physician slots or FR slots. We have enough. Having played Physician for a few weeks recently, highpop with two physicians, two surgeons, two responders, CMO and so on is already enough in most cases. Two pharmacists is already too much imo.
-
I don't mind pharmacist being merged into physician, but I would like physicians to specialise in either surgery or pharmacy as their secondary spec (currently a physician can only do some surgery). Alt title or just pharmacist role rename? The reason why I think this way is I want to avoid super doctors like CMOs. If you spec in surgery, you can't do chems and vice versa.

To bring some transparency to the misunderstanding, the difference between a RCON-configured shock (90kW, for example) and a RCON-disabled shock (1MW+) is the difference between getting 15-40 damage and 50-160 burn damage per shock.
