  1. It has been years since i was on the command whitelist team so take anything i say with a grain of salt. Back in the day the command whitelist served one purpose and one purpose only, as a commitment check. The assumption being that if you where able to muster the energy to create a forum account, read the application format and create an application then you can probably handle having authority in game as a head of staff. Those of you who are extremely old may remember myself, tishinistalker and @Shadow repeating the phrase "Command whitelists are easy to get and easy lose" a lot. That philosophy carries over to current day Aurora. Any temporary ban results in a loss of your command whitelist. On the other hand there is no strict playtime requirement and there is also no hard requirement for the amount of feedback you need. In the olden days the only reason we "required" some level of feedback was to make sure that there was no immediately negative opinion of a particular player before we handed them the keys to the station. If we found one we investigated it based on the feedback and went from there. I could be wrong but I imagine @MattAtlas and the other members of the team do something similar. A command position has the ability to greatly shape a particular round so we have a duty to do some quality control. Nowadays we have a week trial period but again there is no hard requirement for play time. I admit the policy makes me personally raise an eyebrow but I come from an era that threw people to the wolves and solved issues later. Its arguable better to have a process that tries to stop issues before they crop up :). I know that sounds like a lot of boring history and it is. I also haven't really come to any conclusions. Most of your suggestions I do not necessarily disagree with. From my perspective i just do not know that they happen to a degree where I would personally have an issue. So for example I dont know if people are being denied for playtime requirements that aren't REALLY new. The few times I poke my head into the discord channel for the whitelist team they are denying someone who has been here for like a week. I do agree with that they need some more time. Species whitelists I have never personally managed so I can only speak about them in a cursory way. I do think I have some position to speak on them given I have been head admin for a number of years now. I can say with certainty that species whitelists have always been fundamentally different from command whitelists. A command whitelist like i said was a commitment check. Sure you have a lot of power and new rules to follow but the roles are fairly intuitive and its best learned by actually playing the role. Species whitelists are a roleplaying check. A barrier to make sure you understand the nuances of that particular species and understand how to play them. You kind of need an understanding of unathi culture and mannerisms before you start playing one so logically it does make sense that a species whitelist would be more involved. I am not too knowledgeable about how current lore devs conduct them but from 10000 feet away they seem to be in a good place. AI whitelists are...different. They are the only whitelist I see consistently having an interview done. You could argue that this is needed since the AI has hard rules that dictate how it has to act in situations. Not even species have rules that hard because while they might have rules regarding their conduct there are still grey areas and they are still individuals with free will. AIs are slaves to their laws and an AI has an insane impact on the gameplay loop. They can make every single job on the station harder because they are incompetent, griefing or just new to the role or easier for the opposite reasons. They can dip their toes into nearly every facet of the game and deliver information and aid where it needs to go exactly when it needs to go. The place of AI on our server has been hotly debated over the years and the whitelist we have now was an attempt to quality control the harm done to AIs by people joining as an AI and having no clue what to do. There is no other role even close to it so it was kinda strange that there was no gatekeeping on who can play it. In conclusion I love consistency. I think whatever number we could come up with for a strict playtime requirement for whitelists is going to either be arbitrary or suffer a little from Goldilocks's porridge and either be too high or too low. I think that is fine honestly because if every whitelist had the same time we would gain a lot from clearly communicating with the players.
  2. Can you go into some detail on why you banned him for posting nazi propaganda? Im just trying to understand the situation.
  3. @MelariaraWhat happened between the strike and the ban? Was he supposed to be banned at first or?
  4. Mel asked you to drop the conversation entirely and you did not so you got a strike. I am not sure what else to say here. The logs are pretty clear man.
  5. It doesnt matter. You told medical you could do surgery thus you broke the server rules. In no situation can a security officer have surgery knowledge. No it just means you have been given chances before. You will need to appeal this ban at your leisure i am afraid.
  6. These screenshots are fake and my opponent is biased.
  7. I cant really comment on the claims of abuse. All i can really do is compare a player's behavior with our server rules and i think its fairly straightforward your behavior violates rule 1. OPs make various claims all the time and thats usually fine. Its on us to decide if they are credible. The warning has been applied for reasons stated and this thread will now be archived.
  8. Ok after discussing this and checking your history i will be applying a warning to your ckey @stev. In the future you need to directly PM any member of the moderation team if you feel a player is engaging in rule breaking behavior. You cannot take it upon yourself to be very rude to them in our discord communities. The behavior depicted in this logs is not acceptable conduct for members of our community.
  9. Ok i am locking this thread for the time being. I will deliberate with staff and reach a resolution soon.
  10. I do not believe that @Alberyk had the full situation at the time. When we see a fight in discord we dont usually go and search through all the logs to investigate it like an ahelp. We just kinda go "hey knock it off" and then go back to ahelps on the server or whatever else we are doing. I could be wrong of course but given that Alberyk did not have the full picture i dont think he ruled on this particular incident.
  11. Ok i can understand you feeling that way but it doesnt give you the right to be rude to marlon. I mean you accused him of being straight and bulldozing queer people. If someone is spamming pride flags you need to contact a staff member to do something about this. Did you ever do this? The PM i see you sent to Faye was not really asking for anything to be done. She said she agreed with you but you did not reply.
  12. For reference this seems to be the start of the altercation. Marlon has been posting some pride flag emojis and you responded like this https://discord.com/channels/157516682288562176/289293551454388224/987073307687940166
  13. What made you start this to begin with?
  14. I request third party arbitration.
  15. YOU TRIED TO GET ME TO PLASMA FLOOD BY EXPLICITLY STATING OVER THE RADIO WHICH PIPE YOU HAD TO WRENCH TO FLOOD DISTRO!!! YOU ARE A WEASELY LITTLE LIAR!!!
  16. Well, you did just come off of a permaban and have just received an antag ban a few days ago. Your history played heavily into the punishment here. You should have known by now this is not acceptable.
  17. Wow he hacked the status update to get longer omg

  18. Im posting just so goolie's doesnt have two posts on the feed. He is getting too popular and someone needs to STOP HIM.

  19. It is generally not acceptable for one character to have skills from multiple departments. Surgery is a very precise and particular skill within medical. Having any ability to do surgery as a security guard is not acceptable.
  20. The initial ban reason does say "Appeal on the forums when you understand what was being told to you". You attempted to appeal this ban and your appeal was denied. That appeal is of course here This appeal is.... lacking in content. I mean the template for your initial post is longer than your own words. You do not need to grovel at the feet of staff but it is on you to convince us you understand what you did wrong and why we should lift the ban. @Melariara seems to feel you where not taking this process with any amount of sincerity and denied your appeal with the stipulation that you can re-appeal in one month. As an outside observer I do agree with her assessment here. Denied permaban appeals are generally given a one month period before they can be re-appealed but this is usually up to the staff member's discretion and not a universal rule.
  21. Warnings do not "expire" from the staff side of things. Either there is a pattern of behavior or there isnt. I have deleted the note given to you by cybs because it did not accurately reflect his intent and someone reading your notes would assume you looted trash piles twice when that is not what happened. Regardless the ban is fair. You will need to appeal it.
  22. You do have a temporary ban as well as a temporary job ban from security on record and a warning about powergaming as security before that. Searching maint for contraband is something we have always punished security from doing. I find it very hard to believe you did not know searching trash piles in maint for contraband would also be against the rules given your history. You will need to submit a ban appeal to resolve this ban placed by peppermint as i do agree with it. There is generally no hard time limit set for when you can appeal permanent bans. I do think the note from @WickedCybsshould be expunged though. The reason being it states "ban if they continually do this" when that does not seem to be what cybs meant when he placed it. He meant to discuss it in the mod channel and then go from there. As it looks to someone reading your notes for the first time it might seem you where spoken too about looting trash piles and then did it a SECOND time which triggered the ban when in reality its the first instance that triggered the ban.
  23. I see a timestamp for 2022-05-18 13:18:30 from @WickedCybs noting you for the behavior. Where you contacted at all by staff over this? I then see the timestamp for the jobban roughly 8 hours later.
  24. Changeling's power relies on being able to come back from death. Removing its ability to do so is a net nerf to game mode and will just make it worse. If you want to propose removing changelings ability to infinitely revive you need to buff it in other ways to incentivize more healthy gameplay. As it stands nothing will change with this suggestion. The changeling will die, revive, die again and then the round will end. They will not try better gimmicks.
