  1. Jack, I love your motivation and your idea is amazing. I really do think this overhaul is something useful and refreshing and would get me to set my android job preference a bit higher. But like Dreamix said, you should slow down. I know you are excited about your new position as Synthetic Lore Person, I am too, but don't let yourself get burned out in just a few months. Also, I'd love to see you pop out a coder app, Scopes can probably use the assistance and we've already seen that you can make code acceptable for the server with very few conflicts. As for some critique on this idea in general: It has a lot going for it. It's going to require more selections at creation and all that. I almost want to say that various chassis types should somewhat limit what kits a unit can have, this prevents someone from picking a medical bot chassis and playing an mineborg. Essentially give them the ability to chose their chassis and color and make an expendable device that grants them a chassis change if they want to change kits, or make certain kits force a chassis change and they look like a default borg when they have no kits. They still chose their chassis form the list, but they can't roll around looking wrong for the parts that they have. It's just an idea, probably under thought and whatnot, but in my head it seems clear to me.
  2. It really should depend on the IPC, something I think we should talk to users about altering their records for. As I understand them, not all IPCs are free. Many are still owned by NT while they work to pay off the costs of their shell. These IPCs would be treated as property and get vandalized or sabotaged. IPCs who have paid their debts and work for the company for their own reasons should be able to be considered murdered or assaulted. If they have no indication of their property status in records then they should be assumed to be NT owned still.
  3. Hold on. Everyone is attacking Jack's reasoning as if he simply didn't enjoy playing a round as the model. He is our synthetic lore dev and is looking at it objectively to help determine why it even exists compared to the use of other synthetics. I agree with his sights from a lore PoV. Look at what he's saying. NT gets cyborgs/androids/robots that serve a purpose well. Those borgs are never very good at much else. All borgs have a generic flash to help protect crew, but outside of that their tools allow them to solely perform their assigned tasks. The standard model acts in a capacity that can't do anything particularly well due to a lack of tool versatility. Sure, it might have this or that, but does is have other items that compliment them to complete a job? A engiborg has all the tools. A medibot has several medical items at their disposal. What it does have is a suite of tools that allow it to force doors, beat people, put out the rare fire, and unbolt a few things. Oh, it can also alert medical is someone seems injured via a health analyzer that it has to wave around at everyone. All of this seems scattered. They don't really do much of anything well be default, so why would NT allow them on a station? I'm not saying it should be removed no question because I understand people enjoying the module. I'm saying at least understand Jack's points. I agree, as well, that a player can find a way to make the module useful. And I'm sure enough players play it as a regular character that they don't want to see it go. That said, I'm down to rename it. Make it sound less "typical" for a new player.
  4. I'm an avid Argonian player. I've just always enjoyed the aesthetic, but I still enjoy the Imperial race over the others. They are a general and neutral race and who doesn't love having the voice of the emperor on their side?
  5. Sadly, I've not played this game. FOr additional story driven games where you might attach to your characters and their stories look at "This War of Mine." It's a survival war game where you play as a group of civilians caught in the war going on. You have to deal with all sorts of crap all the while feeding, sheltering, and caring for the characters who can lose so much morale they commit suicide. Your actions have very direct impacts as well. It's a harsh game, but if you like heart touching games that show a gritty reality in the background of a game, this is for you.
  6. In this sense you are thinking of what we call "Flight Attendants" in the modern day. I can understand the appeal, but a steward in that sense is literally there to keep a consumer happy. In my opinion, it downgrades the rank of quartermaster to an extent as a steward is the lowest paid air crew member on a commercial flight. I think the cook, bartender, and hydroponics personnel should be capable of managing themselves under the HoP. I'm still all for a department channel for them so the HoP can talk to supply/hospitality on their own and not really bug the side that has zero involvement in any of this. People will say "use your PDA" for that, but hydroponics can have several members. The comms are also just a simplified way of getting those words out to a larger audience at once. Not to derail this thread with it either, I might see about making a thread for it on it's own later, but the term Civilian just feels wrong for those departments. Any non-military, non-police, person is a civilian. Essentially Security are the only non-civilians aboard. Hospitality sounds like a better departmental title to me.
  7. While it would be nice to speak to the hospitality members via a private channel, a further overhaul isn't needed. The Quartermaster has a historical presence and remains a significant position.
  8. I'm all for this idea. Maybe I'll have to get a character with kids or something.
  9. While I don't typically play antags, this is a major step forward in creating a sort of antag lore. I look forward to reading this and some of the significant news snippets. I'm not delved insanely deep in the lore beyond the Aurora, but I intend to fix this at some point as I'm a lore based RPer with roots in large D&D campaign settings.
  10. I like that you brought forth the previous issues and helped to iron them out. It shows a desire and a strong sense of moral motion and a willingness to step up. I can respect your answers there and it further gives cause for me to wish you luck. The only issue I take is with your last few sentences. They have stated that they are not done selecting trials but that it might take a few weeks to come around. After my secondary interview I was told it would be a few days before trials would be selected and it took nearly two weeks beyond that. Give them time, they are already jugging a bunch of us and I'm sure some of us will make the cut and some of us won't. Just hang in there and wait it out.
  11. The concept of extended gives longer, uninterrupted time for players to interact. Those people who cryo early or go SSD in the hallways, will usually still do it if they aren't directly involved in much of the conflict anyways. Civilian jobs and science do this the most. Beyond that, You still see lots of Security and Medbay cryoing or going SSD durring antag heavy rounds. This not only harms the round from a mechanic perspective where we have one player trying to do all of medbay alone with bombs going off, but it also means less people are enjoying the round due to being stuck. All in all I don't thing more antag action will cause people to not log out quickly, since paterns already show people logging out at just about any time. I don't want us to be Hypatia, but a bit more extended wouldn't hurt. I rarely see an extended round and it's kind of frustrating.
  12. The imagery there shows 9 varients. I'm sure there is enough there.
  13. Um... All 4 of mine, plus three AI units, are in there.
  14. I agree. Less rounds with an antag would help enforce our HRP policy.
  15. I'm going to be honest here, I can't really support this. I know you say you are handling your anger issues, but until they are handled they create a problem. Very few times have I seen you act rationally in a fit of anger and those irrational spouts will surely lead to bad decisions and destructive moderation calls. I would love you to get this fixed up, and I support your efforts in doing so. But I think you should come back and try to apply when you think you can have more of a lid on things. And that concern is as much for your mental health as it is for the good of the server.
  16. BYOND Key: Xelnagahunter Character name: Eric Derringer Item name: Loyalty Implant Activator Why is your character carrying said item to work? Derringer spent years already as a Head of Security and recently transferred to Head of Personnel and IAA. He'd still have the implant in and would request it's activation before every shift, even as a Head of Personnel due to his personal loyalty to the company. Item function(s): Acts as a standard Loyalty Implant, but instead of flavor text saying he implanted himself, perhaps is just says the implant was activated. Item description: Item appearance: It could look just like an implanter, only without the needle or something. I'll talk to someone about a sprite or something. Additional comments: Derringer is just that kind of guy. I'm really wanting a way to be able to prove at all times that he is remaining loyal to NT's interests. It's a code of honor kind of thing for him. If anyone thinks they can help with a sprite, unless I can find one, I would be happy. It could be what I mentioned above or radically different, I'd have no issues there.
  17. I don't. T_T I'm bad at Security. Someone needs to teach me, but every time I've joined as a cadet, I get left in the brig or lead around the station with no conversation what-so-ever.
  18. I"m glad garnascus said what he did. This is exactly how I feel about the situation. A first time offender of a game rule can be warned and we can hope that he quickly comes to understand our rules and rehabilitates. If he shows no signs of trying to prevent this kind of behavior in the future, we can begin to take more serious action. I feel this goes for /most/ cases involving people. I sympathize with the distaste of the actions and I wish they didn't happen in the first place, but that doesn't mean we should remove someone from the community that might become the next great batch of fun. It has already been stated that nothing else will happen on this issue, but I still fully support the actions already taken.

    Coroner

Why not call something a Medical Examiner? They are a mix between forensic autopsies and general care of the deceased. They have to know anatomy and be knowledgeable enough to understand medical reasons for illness and the like, so they can serve as makeshift doctors with horrible bedside manner, just like the rest of medbay! It's not actually a bad idea for an alt-title or even a full job on it's own with limited medbay access and the like. Plus, they would be the go-to guy for organic organ replacement without having a biologist clone and grow organs.
  20. I think the guide is a good one. It allows for people to make decisions based on individuals like we do in real life. We look badly on this race or the other for various things ranging from, "OMG they are violent," to, "They took our jobs!" I mean come on, did that cop shoot that heavily armed and aggressive Unathi? He's clearly an Unathi hater, and everyone who claims he was just doing his job should be purged and their entire history erased. Just my thoughts.
  21. Your biography is a bit bigger than I'd like to read, but otherwise I like your application. From what I've seen of you as a player and what I recall of your characters, you are level headed and capable. I'd be glad to see you in a command station.
  22. I've been told that reasonably RPed antagonist actions can still happen in places like departures, even after the shuttle docks. Lets say the antags have spent the whole round setting up to prevent the crew from leaving via RP. As the shuttle gets called they alert the crew that people entering departures will be killed and place up a blockade of sorts. Now, once the shuttle arrives they should not be expected to instantly abandon those actions. Their ability to maintain hostile actions should be able to remain all the way up until the shuttle departs and even until the round restarts. I feel that it's only reasonable.
  23. Whoo! Nobody better fecking object.
  24. Once pressure and oxygen levels stabalize it becomes prudent to carefully remove parts of the suit near the wound in an attempt to get a better look. Unless my mind screams at me about some unreasonable action due to pain.
  25. Everyone worries that lethal weapons will become an instant problem. But they shouldn't Only a handful of people have access to lethal weapons and those people should be trusted NOT to hand them our without proper orders or reasoning. Lethal weapons are to be a last resort and that's part of the definition of our server: HEAVY ROLE PLAY. If security keeps passing up on that and handing out lethal weapons like candy then it's time to star job banning people who can't maintain a roleplaying aspect properly while doing the job.
