Because it's fun. In the case of mining it gives you a tangible goal when people are busy armchair roleplaying I.E nothings happening. Ditto xenology. All the 'interactive' roles like sec and med are boring as fuck when nothing is happening and can tend to devolve into shit tier melodrama. With mining ya gotta get dat sweet sweet ore for central(if RnD are fucking around) and with xeno, breed dem slimes/research dem artifacts. TL;DR It's fun because it gives you something to do when the round is slow, and when it picks up you can jump into the fray with ease.

Fair, I'd imagine the all Vaucra should be feeling joy and pride etc and take what's written as gospel; just thought it might be fun to throw in a bit of a 1984 twist as afterall the hive literally does tell them how to think, bound and unbound alike. I'd say that's using OOC knowledge IC, I'd just LOOC advise them that they'd have to physically mesh with the Hive Network to know that. On the other hand, maybe they do know about what's going on with the Vaucra to a degree for whatever reason. Just thought it'd be nice for the Vaurca players to have and for other people to read. I read the other news posts that have no relevance to my characters whatsoever (hell, they wouldn't even read the Adhomai Chronicle or the Warble).

Sort if but it's a misconception to say they were "tiny dinosaurs which evolved to be warm blooded". It's more that the proto-mammals shared a sort of common ancestor with dinosaurs in the form of amphibian like creatures which diverged into the proto-reptile and proto-mammal. The proto-mammal looked 'reptile like' but wasnt really one (as reptiles didn't exist yet).

One thing you guys might want to consider is a system like the Apollo server has where you literally DO start at the lowest level of a department and must work your way up by playing as the basic rank for a while (ie. being a cadet or intern) before you move up to the normal ranks. It is restricted to each character you make and probably has some drawbacks (ie. you can't really multiclass a character anymore) but it might help with poorly trained security. That being said, I have seen quite a few Cadets and such actually working their way up on this server since I've played here (I started as a Cadet too). Right now it's basically assumed and written that people have undergone this but they really just haven't. I've seen some poor security as a result of this. Then again, this is a difficult issue and I feel this thread is more of a response to a particular round rather then "how we improve security". ... I also just thought of how to multiclass the Apollo system. That sounds like an intriguing idea; a unique form of whitelisting. You should create a separate thread and see if we can get feedback from both aurora-ians and Apollo-ians familiar with the system's drawbacks and benefits. I like this idea very much.

Hmm my partner recieved first aid training recently and they taught her to do mouth-to-mouth. If you're intrained in CPR/First Aid then you'd only do the compressions (since you don't know how to clear the air ways, what to look for when doing mouth-to-mouth etc). Hell, some doctors are super rusty doing First Aid and it's common for them to just let a first aider do CPR. I'm all for having it so you do shit tier CPR if you're not trained and good CPR if you are training (skill wise).
