[Accepted] Drago's Head of Staff Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: QueenOfYugoslavia

Character names: Zorrianna Balkerina, Ela Monislyum, Nigel Rhodes, Ynnefer Killinski, Donald Miller

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 9 months

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: There is at times a lack of Research Directors online. Aswell as over my time playing on the server, around 90% of it has been in science as I am very fascinated with it and enjoy it quite a lot. I wish to become Research Director to help others who come into science and allow them to learn and be productive under a friendly and newbie friendly lead who can run science efficiently and effectively

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora looking for a place in the SS13 community that provided serious roleplay and a friendly environment; and that is exactly what I have found. I came from another server that I attempted HRP on but they did not have that focus in mind and aimmed for more objective or you're normal ss13 type of atmosphere instead if a heavy roleplaying one.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is by definition the creation of characters set in environment or world and are shaped by that world that surrounds them. Aurora's universe is a realistic yet futuristic world that gives players a sense of freedom in there roleplay while keeping it grounded and balanced to a point thats its a believable world that you are in, a perfect mixture of staying grounded and allowing users to create and shape there character

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

The OOC purpose of this role is to ensure the staff that you are assigned to look over (In this application, pointing to Research Director). This type of role provides somebody to handle new players and veteran alike, to handle issues that may present themselves ic or oocly and to be the person to look up to for proper rp etiquette. These people are placed into these roles to allow those under them to have a example to look up to; and I feel with my attitude and outlook I can be a positive person to look up to and teach others.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

As stated above, one of the main responsibilities it to be a leadership role for the department. When you are in charge of the department, you are looked up to and are the one that people goto with there concerns or issues, be this based from ic or ooc; the head of staff acts as that front line and backbone support to pick up and teach those who fall under them and to ensure they do not fall again. You as the head of the department are the teacher and the role model of what is to be expected by the department

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Ynnefer Killinski

Character age: 42

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Ynnefer was born on Sol IV (Mars) to a father whom worked as a Professor of xenoarchaeology at Mars University. Ynnefer was to be one of 3 kids, her mother having triplets whom however during child birth were all killed besides Ynnefer who survived, this however caused a great sense of anger from her mother towards the surviving infant and she left Mars and never returned. As a child, Ynnefer was always the smaller kid who would be along and wish to be alone at all times, being overly sheltered by her father who wished for no harm of the world to take his only child, she often found herself sitting in the library of the university her father worked at. As a child she was home schooled by her father, only getting to interact with other kids she came into contact with around the residence she lived at on the campus of the collage.

Around the time she turned of age, Ynnefer was accepted into Mars University and begin her studies quite quickly; aspiring to be like her father in his field of xenoarchaeology. However, due to a unfortunate accident involving the excavating of a alien specimen under the fragile Martian soil, Ynnefer's father was killed when a support strut came loose, falling into the cavern he was working in and crushing him the and research team below. While the accident was the fault of the Martian government's inability or lack of care for safety inspections, Ynnefer was told her father was simply transfered off planet for a assignment, not knowing the truth of what happened to him for years to come.

Besides this incident, Ynnefer graduated from Mars University with a Doctorates in xenoarchaeology, moving after this to obtain another doctorates in General Research and Development and Bluespace technologies, focusing on the technology and study behind Telescience . Upon completion of her studys; Ynnefer moved back to Mars where she took a position at Mars University, becoming a clerk for the Xenoarch professor. Afterwards however, she was given a contract for Einstein Engines and was employed there for a brief time before NT bought out her contract aswell as others in her research team as part of a lawsuit between the two companys.

What do you like about this character?:

I like this character as shes somebody who looks at herself and aspires to be what others are lacking in there life, be that a role model or a general operson to look up to. While she is quiet and can be at times abit snappy; she takes on a mother like approach to most situations shes in; mostly to makeup for the lack of having a mother growing up. These behavior traits make her unique to a extent and a very approachable character

What do you dislike about this character?:

Due to her education and the hardliner attitude installed into her by her father and teachers; shes somebody who likes to do things one way. While she does this, she is open to creative freedom in projects and has the ability to reason with others, however she may become very heated in these discussions; moreso due to her wishing people would learn instead of doing things there own way which she feels can lead to failure. One of her major character flaws is she doesn't wish to be a failure; shes a perfectionist at heart yet is forgiving for the failures of others, wishing to fix them to avoid them in the future.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

Despite these flaws to herself, Ynnefer remains somebody who leads by example; wanting to be the one that is looked up to the teaching those around her : she often times allows herself to get into her work herself; taking projects on with her team to ensure they can see how something is done or observe there behavior to help improve it in the future. She yes, comes off as a cold bitch at times but she means the best for her team and simply wishs for them to become better at what they do, in science and in life in general. Shes inside a loving person with a heart that wants the best for everybody and the best for the crew on the station and most importantly, the company

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

7/10- 8/10

I will admit that I am not the best roleplayer in the world. While there was a time when I was abit better, I have became lax in some areas, however I am improving back in those areas and am fully confident in my ability to roleplay this role correctly

Endorsing. The application hits every mark that I would've hoped for and it shows a proper understanding of what it means to be whitelisted and the inherent (ir)responsibility attached to it. Drako is a fine roleplayer and also very humble. They're great to see on the server especially seeing as how they strive to improve as both a trial mod and a better roleplayer every day.

The character presented seems just fine. The strengths and flaws are written well and the applicant is cognizant of how important it is for each character to be defined by those characteristics.

They're very nice OOCly on top of that. I don't imagine a universe where they'd abuse this. We've all made terrible decisions when we first got our whitelists so I imagine people have to be open-minded and understanding from the get-go, as playing command here is more emphasized in overall importance than on other servers.

Drako has a keen sense of right and wrong. She even called us out when we meta gamed once in a voice chat (meta gamed? I wouldn't never do that!!) which suggests that she does the right thing even when her friends are being butt holes.

She is works fast, has no problem with commitment to the server, she's kind and intuitive. She will make an excellent RD and thrive in whatever she does in the future.

Also, that character sounds like a badass.

I like this, it shows a strong degree of desire to focus on roleplay rather than mechanics, which most heads of staff should be doing outside of emergency situations.

A good demonstration that you're not going to go overboard with your characters and make them know everything in a department.

Not going to lie, if this answer was given in a different context, I'd be a tad uncomfortable, because "heated" is often "stupidly over the top" and "hardliner" is often "emotionless" and "wishing people would learn" is "ignoring other peoples opinions" and "perfectionist" is often "elitist". That said, based off my interactions with you in-character, I wouldn't go so far as to say I believe that will be the case.

Shes inside a loving person with a heart that wants the best for everybody and the best for the crew on the station and most importantly, the company

I don't normally like this in a character, because altruism is generally the least interesting character dynamic in presentation. Further coupled with the idea that she's a staunch supporter of the company (READ: HELLISH MEGACORP), I'm not sure how that will work as a dynamic. In a toss-up, I suppose you'd go for company over crew, based on how that was written?

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

Good on ya.

I'm going to give a +1. I wish I could have had more recent interactions to base this off, but from my experiences a few months ago, you're decent enough to handle the role with no problem. Just keep an eye on making sure your characters niceties stem from IC reasoning and not OOC, and you don't accidentally become so altruistic you lose your character entirely.

A solid application. I normally interact with players indirectly as the stations ai, and what I have observed from your characters is good. I believe you would fill the role of director well as it particularly meshes with how you play. Your character is solid and your reasonings are sound. The one thing I could fault you on would be the few times you've played an antag. Perhaps it's just me, but whenever you are playing antag it feels as if a newer player is doing so. This criticism is slight however, and I have no doubt you would come into your own style of play of given the chance. +1

From the little interaction Ive had with your character, you seem genuinely interested in learning things and taking the time to do things proper. You also seem to go out of your way to teach someone about various things, which is pretty refreshing!

Not a whole lot to add other than whats been said by some already.

Good luck on your application!

Definitely a +1 from me. This application is nearly flawless. I absolutely believe she should get her whitelist, if she ends up not living up to the expectations, it can always be revoked. She is good with Roleplay, her characters are usually well thought out and played very well.

I'm Avery, and I approve of this message.

I'll be completely honest, everytime I've seen/interacted with/had Ynnefer on the research crew, it's been a less than pleasant experience.

First time I can recall, I assigned Ynnefer to work R&D where they were kinda hanging out around anyways. They seemed far more focused on making weapons than raising levels, so much so they tried whispering a command to a borg to find them a firing pin despite my orders. After a few attempts of trying to make weapons they left.

There's been multiple times I've found Killinski's non-returned science gear in a pile by cryo. One of the times it had unreported contraband in it. I reported it to the HoS, they cleared it to be deconstructed for levels, but then a few minutes later Ynnefer comes out of cryo like nothing happened.

The latest time seeing Ynnefer was earlier today. They rolled RD over me, stood in the office for a minute, and then cryo'd before I could even feed a slime.

I dunno, maybe I've just had bad luck/timing which Killinski and they just so happened to have rolled antag everytime I've had an issue with them. I would *like* to meet the Ynnefer the people before me have commented about, but I have yet to see them. My voice probably carries no weight, but I couldn't recommend them at this time.

I assume you play Servo (Which is a character I quite enjoy tbh). The only times I have interacted with him have been a couple times since I have gotten HoS whitelist, but to goto you're points.

1. Both of those incidents were during Antag rounds. I was moved to cryo as I was in Aghost and somebody assumed I was SSD and put me there, to which I finished up my ticket I was handling and exited and reported myself into security.

2. I work MWF currently due to being in down time for recovering from surgery, I had planned to play the round but I get up at 5am and drive almost a hour to work so I decided to head to bed abit early, so I do apologize.

I however welcome you to when you do play science when im on RD (Which I haven't seen Servo much in science the times I have been on RD) to interact with my character as I have had nothing but positive feedback and rp with others on this character, even from those who have disagreed with my char icly have told me oocly they enjoy the char. I do see your point however and would love to get to play with you're char more to show you more. Im also open to feedback or constructive criticism if you want to msg me here or on discord at Drago#1720
