Juani2400 Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Hello. How many times has Medical missed someone who was injured and on sensors because they were hanging around in another place of the Medical Bay, or just forgot about checking the sensors occassionally? This suggestion entails the possibility of adding new sounds and alert sprites to our Crew Monitoring Console (CMC from now on), so Medical staff can notice any new wounded personnel. The new CMCs would have two new sprite statuses, and would include two new sounds. It would also include a setting menu through which the staff can modify the notification settings, in order to mute the console, change the thresholds of notification or reset the console status back to normal, ignoring who is injured. Additionally, an option to reset the alert per person in the list -with a button next to their name in the form of a bell- should be included, to allow resetting the alert for a single person if they are already getting treatment, or whatever. The first state would trigger at a moderate amount of damage, approximately at +50% and would make the console sound a "beep beep" or any other similar sound, changing the screen status sprite to an orange-based theme. It would remain in this state for as long as any person is being registered with that amount of health, or until the system as a whole is reset through the options, or the notifications for that specific person are reset/disabled. The second state would trigger at a near-to-critical amount of damage, approximately at +0% and would make the console sound a more alerting and annoying sound, with a higher volume than the previous state. The idea is that it sounds like a siren, or something similar. It would remain sounding the siren periodically until the alert is ackknowledged by resetting that person's notifications. The sprite would change to a shade of red, and would blink. The reset would only disable the notification for that person until it reaches a +90% of health again, at which point, any decrease in the patient's health below the previously mentioned thresholds would trigger the alerts again. I'm aware this is kind of an ambitious project, but I felt like putting it out there to see what opinions it gathers. So, lemme hear them!
Carver Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 This seems like a good idea. I don't really have anything to say aside from that.
Pratepresidenten Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I dont think this suggestion would spark any negative feedback. Its terrible enough having to low-staff medical if someone is getting murderized while you're treating someone else for a bruised hand. Now you can be actively notified that people are dying! And mayhaps.. As a related concept, you can link your PDA to the console for notifications, much like the faxes and consoles to help out EMTs on the move. Just an idea to supplement/add to this already wonderous idea. As for the whole: Its a prime upgrade for the future we so wish we live in.
ben10083 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 My only worry is that if someone dies it will constantly spam the sound, otherwise, +1.

Encourage people to check on it and do their jobs.
sonicgotnuked Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 The only slight thing I can think of this is it provides medical an easy way to know when someone is being succed in maint, but you can always turn off suit sensors on someone and it will stop this so it will provide greater importance. Sounds cool +1
Resilynn Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) I suppose this, but if we don't do THIS, can we at least have handheld sensor monitors? Edited March 7, 2019 by Resilynn

I know they're already in the code, I'd like to spawn in with them because I don't think science has made them for us once. Ever. In my time as one of the top 10 most played characters who is always in medical. And it would at least untether us from the front desk.

Anyway, I don't really support this because Medical shouldn't be rewarded (with finding antags) for alt tabbing out and doing other stuff.

This would enable us to have other things to do, so we wouldn't be so tempted to alt tab and do other stuff. We are punished for leaving the desk, ever.

Science doesn't usually remember that medical exists or needs anything, and from an IC standpoint, they're also not obligated to remember.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 A gentle, sporadic tone would be fine. Nothing that you wouldn't be driven crazy hearing if you were trapped on the other side of the glass and not able to escape.
