[Accepted] Peppermint - Command App #2

Spoiler

So Sophie, What Changed Since the Last one!?

The app is fairly similar to the last one; not much has changed in my opinion toward the questions.

For reference:

I like to think that for the most part, the app went okay up until the end. At that point my patience was somewhat worn, as was my frustrations (DMing people mean comments is garbo, people!) and I made some stupid mistakes. I took a short break from the game since that helped a lot. Since then and throughout the app, I spoke a decent amount to A_Big_Bear about the CCIA side and gathered a decent amount of advice that (I think) would help a lot for a future trial, as well as a few others less extensively. As for what's changed@

Taking Over Too much: I'd like to think this got better throughout the app, but I very much agree that I was trying to do too much throughout. Nowadays I've relaxed this a decent amount and am less worried about stopping people from messing up and instead would focus on a more organisational role when possible.

Teaching : I've done a lot of teaching throughout the brainmed roll-out for a number of the new (now less so new) medical players. This has helped a great deal with patience as well as general understanding of how the game works.

Feedback: During the earlier stages of my trial, I had a lot of issues asking for help when I needed it. Mostly it was from the wiki being out of date, but there were some mechanical issues too. I'd like to think these have mostly been solved through my discussions with Shadow and Big Bear, as well as being more willing to reach out if needed.

Sooo..err..can I have a second chance? ^^

BYOND key: Peppermint96

Character names: In order of activity:
Genevieve Francois - Security Officer
Nina Thompson - Surgeon

A couple of assorted randomers I've played one or twice and then never touched again:
Moxie Delray - Security Officer.
Sang Feng - Surgeon

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Fourish months? My activity can be pretty variable, so it's hard to put a proper cap on it.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I enjoy playing command roles elsewhere, plus I tend to do a lot of organisation within departments anyway.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I write and RP a lot elsewhere, but took a rather long break. Aurora was supposed to just be a way to get back into it, but I ended up loving the community and sticking around.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: ✔

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've been informed of one note, though I'm not sure if I have more (For clarity, I probably do.). I have one warning and one temp (24 hour) ban.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I feel like it's just another medium of entertainment/storytelling/creativity, with the added bonus that it's done around other people. So there's plenty of reactive play that you do not get in a book, movie, or most video games. A lot of the excitement comes from the way people around you react, especially when it's in ways you don't expect. Which, in turn, drives creativity to further the main goal of story telling. And then, of course, escapism via 'being' in whatever genre of choice.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Two main reasons, really. The first is to help facilitate the stories other people want to tell, by helping to enable their plans. This is especially important when it comes to antag roles and trying to meet everyone halfway; offering an enjoyable narrative to both sides whilst trying to include as many people as possible. So, in other words, avoiding the trap I feel many people fall into and only having command/security deal with antags. A head should be helping to make sure everyone feels included. Then the second reason is to inject a little excitement or variety into the round if nothing else is going on, as well as to be a port of call for in-game guidance if they're a departmental head.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: None that are any different to any one individual. I think people should, whilst of course finding their own fun, be conscience of the other people playing and go out of their way to ensure their stories also work.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Mostly (so far as I can see) increasing/decreasing racial tensions. IPCs, whilst still with plenty of stigma and hate, are becoming begrudgingly more accepted. Though the SLF actions may be hurting this progress, depending on personal belief toward violent protest. There as also been increased pressure on the Tajaran wars to find some form of agreement, with the formation of coalitions hardly seeming to help. Even NT has weighed in, whilst the Eridani contractors no longer see the fight as being worthwhile for their contracts. Due to said tensions and the likelihood of more, diplomatic characters are increasingly required. Especially on a station like the Aurora, with a whole host of different backgrounds working together.

There's also the whole ongoing Skrell issue, but to be honest I've not really kept up. There's the extra pressure from the government and increased incursions by Jargon forces, one of which led to Easter's death. As such, tensions are likely high and multiple people are probably waiting for an excuse to cause issues, which wraps into the first paragraph.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? HoP/Captain for now. I like the thought of HoS, but I feel the role is bloated right now and enjoy the players as is. Likewise CMO would be fun, but I'm not entirely comfortable with it yet.

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:

Felicity Larson - CMO
Elizabeth Harrington - CMO

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Like everyone else, it depends. I feel like my characterisation is pretty good, but still move toward reactivity rather than proactivity. Hence wanting to start as HoP and work upward from there to see what command is like on this server.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? ✔

Have you familiarise yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? ✔

Extra notes: I would ask people to remember that IC and OOC are not the same thing. My characters can be rather abrasive and mean on occasion, but that does not mean I hold those opinions OOC. I've had a few people under the impression that I have some issue with them due to IC issues, though have cleared it up via PMs.

I think Peppermint would do great in a command position. She plays great and interesting characters, and has done well in command roles in the past. Peppermint is a wonderful roleplayer, and very skilled mechanically. She would certainly make a great fit for a command whitelist. On top of her RPing ability, it would be good to get more command staff in general, especially considering dead hour. Can't think of many better for the spot, +1

I have experienced peppermint for a while now as I have slowly shifted from playing sec the most to playing med the most, and I have interacted with Nina Thompson plenty. They are a phenomenal roleplayer and I am very confident in their ability to play as a CMO. They show a very good grasp on brainmed, teach newcomers things often, and can handle pressure as I have seen them go entire rounds doing nonstop surgery near flawlessly. Big +1 from me.

I have had really nothing but negative interactions with there characters, from there medical character constantly mistreating patients(Dragging them down the hallway while they are ripped open bleeding, having a attitude when shown proper procedures.) to hacking doors as a non antag on there security officer. Command is a teaching role and I feel until this player can follow proper roleplay and the server rules they should not be given such a whitelist

Fowl, I would like to point out that the first issue - that you ahelped - was found to not have actually happened in the way you're describing it, and ruled as a non-issue as far as I'm aware. Perhaps you didn't know, but you can use grab intent on patients so long as they're laying down without causing issues.

In the second instance, yes, a mistake was made and it was dealt with via said temp ban. I freely admit that was on my own head. There's a complaint on my forum profile for those interested in the details - it was a rule mix-up that I'm now aware of and have not, nor will, repeat(ed), and was not anything malicious or intentional. It's a shame you've had issues with me, as I find your characters interesting due to the friction they create. If you have any general feedback for the more mechanical side, feel free to DM me here or via discord.

I've seen their characters, both of them, roleplay extremely well and acclimate to literal polar opposites of departments. I tried Security for ONE round and couldn't handle it, way too much pressure.

Command is primarily a teaching role, but I think they absolutely deserve a shot at it. =]

+1 from me

Very well rounded player with a balance in mechanical skill and roleplaying style. Makes believable and memorable characters that fill roles in the station well enough for me to want to be here and give them my +1. Strong knowledge of medical mechanics and the new brainmed system and reasonable understanding of how the ISD works. I think with this knowledge and the finesse in roleplay they they have, a character of theirs would be a welcome addition to the Aurora command staff in helping guide the medbay or ISD.

In just one round with Peppermint's command character I, and anyone watching, could easily tell she is a wonderful fit for a Command whitelist. In what was even an extremely hectic round for civilian staff, let alone Medical or Security, Peppermint, as CMO, skillfully handled any and every issue that came Medical's away, even with such a small medical staff that shift. They RP'd their character well, did a fantastic job overall, and I think most if not all of medical on shift that round would back me up in saying so. I saw them in command positions previously and they were always on point, great in the role they chose both mechanically and RP wise. I have no reason what so ever to think things will not be the same this time. I hope she gets the feedback she deserves on this application, and that it gets passed once the trial is over, as I believe we are in quite the need for certain command slots at certain hours.

I'm changing to a +1, I haven't been around for a couple weeks but the past few rounds I've seen Peppermints characters they've been amazing. I think they're going to be good for Aurora as a whole in the future as command. The effort she now puts into running good characters is noticeable.

They're doing a much better job as Command, from what I've observed. I believe they're a much better fit for it now.
