[+1 DISMISSAL] Extendo Tweaks

More of a discussion than a suggestion.

I want to know what people think of increasing the extended gamemode probabilty in the secret rotation. I personally believe that secret extended is the worst gamemode because so few rounds are extended in secret that people are subconsiously conditioned to expect their round to be altered by antags and thus act far, far differently from rounds where it is voted extended. In security, for example, a lot of officers have a habit of ignoring minor crimes/afking at the desk etc while waiting for antags to arrive. I'm pretty sure medical suffers with similar desk-afking rounds.

I also admit that I dislike how little RP goes on in security due to the expectation of antags.

EDIT: I should clarify that by "increasing the probability" I personally mean to roughly 33-50% of rounds being extended.

I usually vote secret because I want antags but dont want to immediately know which antag. Secret extended is fine where it is right now.

The long standing idea is to introduce more powerful random events. Specifically player driven ones, like random Vox appearing on station or whatever. For both extended and non-extended rounds. I don't think increasing extendo chance in secret is a good idea, extended is already the most played singular game mode, taking up 40 - 55% of the play time per year.

An interesting statistic, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. What percentage of those rounds take place during our dead hours?

Not really for this because Extended is the main-voted gamemode other than Secret- Secret is meant to be where you get more antags and action. People will always subconsciously meta for antags because they know the chances of antag round outweighs Extended- so unless you make Secret have a 10% chance of Extended (the highest percentage chance for a gamemode in secret, as of right now only held by Autotraitor aka SS13 Classic)

 

Extended right now is a 2% chance, that's good because it won't happen often- very little back-to-back chance, but it's still there.

While tweaks to random events would be cool, isn't that what secret ultimately is?

The objective goal is not to reduce the rate of antags spawning, but increase the non-antag interaction between crew on a whole. The issue with entire departments going SSD until an antag appears is an issue I see mostly localised to Aurora, as opposed to other RP servers I have played on that do not feature antags.

Keep scrolling up, there are days with back to back to back extended rounds. There are days with 50/50 extended. And then days with mostly antag. Point is. I personally don't think we need more extended. Especially when some, possibly bunch of those "antag rounds" it is probably just antag-extended, with peace gimmicks or missing antags for whatever reason.

If anything we have too many back-to-back rounds.

I think the current extended chance is good enough™ until Other Developments© happen. As Seeli generously showed, it's really not as uncommon as you think. In fact, secret extended is actually quite common.

I am a sucker for extended so I will always support the idea of having more if it.

Recently I feel we've have seen a significant reduction in extended and I don't know if it's due to antag drafting or just the give and take that is "sometimes the secret players are on more often" and "sometimes the extended players are on more often".
