SinfulBehaviors Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I mean, we already have Non-Coalition Frontier as an accent, and I've love to be able to develop characters from areas outside the CoC, like the Badlands, Lights Edge, and The Clash. As far as Wildlands, Chevy made the observation that there planets that aren't frontier that are ALSO unaffiliated, so they should be properly represented too. It's nothing gameplay related, but I feel like it's a little QoL thing that would make everything a little bit better.
MattAtlas Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) That is not a citizenship, though. That's an origin, which is a very different thing. You can come from Sol and have a Biesellite citizenship. In your case, your character would be from wherever you want but end up having a Biesellite citizenship. Edited December 10, 2020 by MattAtlas
wowzewow Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I'd rather not have any more citizenships. How many of these unaffiliated territories would the goverments recognize, realistically? Honestly, I feel that you should probably go into the nitty-gritty in the backstory.
Kintsugi Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Stateless people exist in our lore. I don’t see why you are forced to have the citizenship of a major faction - I think an “other” category would be perfectly fine
DronzTheWolf Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I agree with Danse. Add the "None" citizenship option for every species. It's already in place for IPCs to be owned, and every species has non-recognized states that you could openly be from. Not everyone in the Republic of Biesel wants to be a citizen, some are just there for the work on visas.
Alberyk Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 "None" implies someone that is stateless, which I guess would be an okay option. However, Wildlands and Unaffiliated frontier don't make sense as an option, because they are not really states or recognized entities. Accents are already there to imply some kind of origin/background. Citizenship is more related to the current legal status of the character.
Carver Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Echoing that None or even Other sounds better than adding something that tries to be vague in what it is, yet specifically refers to a region.
SinfulBehaviors Posted December 11, 2020 Author Posted December 11, 2020 Danse and Matt both make wonderful points. Maybe we could have both "Other" AND "None?" That'd allow for more flexibility.
Alberyk Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 I am against other being an option. While people having their own colonies and what not canon is fine, I still believe that we should restrict the citizenship options to the recognized and important states/factions in lore.
KingOfThePing Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I'd like to see something like stateless being added. I think with these expansive frontier regions we have in lore, not everyone just has citizenship, is against having one or doesnt care. Drifters or scrappers, for example. Don't think it has too many drawbacks such people would care about.
Zundy Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Having just "stateless" seems silly since that implies no rights. HOWEVER I think it would be interesting if any "stateless" colonials, when entering Biesel or perhaps any space with corporate interests, can given a sort of "corporate citizenship" automatically if they apply to join and are successful in joining a corp. This gives the corp in question certain rights where the individual is concerned and is not ideal, but better than being stateless. We can call them corpos LOL. I think it'd be some interesting flavor and avoids the catch all "other" which is kinda just a way to avoid being in a faction which we want to avoid.
