BurgerBB Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Adds an area where prisoners can perform math equations for a reduced sentence time. This gives prisoners something to do while in prison. It's a very simple design that spews out random basic math questions. Difficulty of the math questions will increase based on the speed of solving math questions. It will start out very simple and then move onto more advanced calculations. Upon request, it will print out a stamped paper telling the user how many math questions they solved since the last printed paper. They can then show that paper to the Warden for a reduced sentence, if they choose to give one. Given the age of the software, the machine will have a chance to glitch out and do terrible things, such as give an impossible to solve math question, or crash and remove all progress. The computer itself will can be smashed to pieces by angry prisoners.
SleepyWolf Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 this removes ability to get to solitary from behind so -1
Asheram Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Should we be concerned that this pushes solitary straight up against the armory as well?
Bauser Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 (edited) I was really hoping that it was going to be some sort of holographic simulation where the prisoners actually have to mine the Bitcoins. With holographic pickaxes. Out of holographic rock. Edited May 9, 2018 by Guest
Doc Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I second all of the previous posts, and add that I find it ridiculous that this area intended for prisoners that are not HuT (unless you were suggesting even HuT prisoners could qualify to reduce their sentences) is surrounded by not just one, but two reinforced walls. The armory can have it's own reinforced walls. Solitary can have their own reinforced walls. Even the regular brig only has standard walls. The 2460 equivalent of a high-school computer lab does not need the same security level of the armory. Edit: Additionally, I would recommend either adding an APC for this room or downsizing it. Additionally additionally, it does not make sense to give each cubicle two tiles of space, but have the chair block access to the second tile of space. Move the chair and computer to the opposite side of the cubicle so that the extra space is directly accessible. And why does a prisoners room have carpeting? -1
Snakebittenn Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 So does bitcoin transfer to the Security department account or like. Is it completely virtual?
BurgerBB Posted May 10, 2018 Author Posted May 10, 2018 "Bitcoin" is in brackets. The reality is that every equation solved, the security account will get like 0.1 cents.
SleepyWolf Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 this ALSO removes the ability to blow up the wall from maintenance into processing. I've used that tactic one or two times and it's not good to block off like that
UnknownMurder Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 I want to say that this was a great effort to make a suggestion by far distance and very pleasing to see that you have put in work to do this. Although, they shouldn't be forced to do this, I noticed that you mentioned that this is a fabulous chance for prisoners to have a way to work to get the reduced sentence should the Warden or Head of Security provide one. Now, I'm going to play little of a Devil's Advocate and ask you this, why have you pushed this in the back rather attempt to merge it with the current brig that we have? Consider this, this mapping gives Security Department a benefit of deciding where to place you. Nonetheless, you want to try to work for reduced sentence but you got placed in the general brig and there's nothing to work for it? Oh well. EDIT: This came to my mind just right after I posted it. Won't Security members waste their time doing this than doing their job because it makes money.
Scheveningen Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 This is kind of goofy and reminiscent of a /tg/station meme. I'm not sure if our brig should have this as an activity for detainees, as I'm sure there are better ideas to keep them engaged and useful to the company. Considering how staring at digitized stocks/bitcoin is hardly any fun in real life, I kind of doubt this would be any more engaging the way it's pitched here, either. I would've honestly been more onboard with a Virtual Reality z-level like goonstation has for detainees to be able to enter while in a brig cell, rather than a time-out chamber that has a bunch of prisoners corralled into a sweatshop-esque environment doing math problems for the rest of the round. Zzzz.
Azande Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 All ya'll people mentioning solitary, I've been playing for a long time, including since the new map came out. I've seen NOBODY break someone else out through the back of solitary. Why? It's dumb. Nobody does it, sure someone COULD do it, but 90% of our antag players are bad beanz, so, it's not much of an argument to use. +1 for more for prisoners to do!
LordFowl Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 If we’re going to go down the “prisoners need something to do!” rabbit-hole, it’s definitely not going to be fucking math equations done in a room that’s far too large crammed into the first place it fit.
zyymurgy Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Very silly execution, but very solid concept. Prisoners have been used for slave labor pretty much since prisons were invented. +1 on having prisoners do something, but -1 on it being bitcoins.
SleepyWolf Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Xander, I have been broken out of solitary twice and broken someone out three times. Just because you're not seeing it doesn't mean it's not being used, and giving someone the ability to slowly inch through the back wall to save a friend is great stress and leads to amazing roleplay. removing the ability for it would be a real bummer
BurgerBB Posted May 10, 2018 Author Posted May 10, 2018 Since people are concerned about not being able to break out kids in isolation, I just went ahead and redesigned it and moved it to the sublevel.
