  1. This Incident Report is being closed due to the heavy antag involvement in creating this situation. If you believe the actions reported to be severe enough to warrant a character/player complaint, you may file one here: http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewforum.php?f=35
  2. I'm personally against time compression, the memeing about it fucking with DTG is nice and all but I couldn't care less about that. Basically Synnono's post hit the nail right on the head, characters with personalities based heavily on circumstance will be effectively butchered, either they resolve too quickly or they simply don't get explored, probably both. Not every character needs a life story, because that probably wouldn't be very interesting, some characters are designed for their circumstance. With time compression I can only see these sorts of characters being filtered out, as players are unable to fully develop them. While some people may like the appeal of playing the epilogue, I can't see everyone else being the same way. Either they'll ignore this feature entirely, modifying age as necessary and invalidating it entirely, or they'll simply replace the character once it's outlived its use.
  3. Youbar hasn't been seen for for a while and I was unable to get in contact with him, as such the report is being closed.
  4. My intent for Kalina as a character, was that it would be largely trying to ensure it's usefulness. As an AI, it wouldn't have been standout but base experience from being sharded into station bound units and from its origin would give it some precedent for medical work. Negotiating for an IPC shell is a way for it to not only assist in the field of medicine which it has some tie to, but to ensure that it's presence is beneficial, furthermore as IPCs are relatively new, simply existing as an IPC and being monitored is presumably beneficial to the research community. Given time, it may well attempt to pay of it's shell but it wouldn't be a priority for them, tying into the next question, freedom isn't one of their driving motivations. My thought process being, the owner would be someone in the research field with an interest in artificial intelligence transitioning into or simply inhabiting in an unbound chassis. Owning it is a way of more easily studying them, Kalina would be aware of this and at this point have no issue with it, simply another part of its purpose. I've always been under the interpretation that shards being reintroduced were mandatory, making the shard not being so much what can shorten the lifespan but reintroducing the shards into the main intelligence. Maybe I was wrong, but with that context in mind I can answer the next few questions. It's shards would have remerged either post shift, or following a series of shifts, I'd imagine any sharding could cause some deterioration even if it is very marginal. With that said, I hadn't imagined the sharding being very frequent or happening for a prolonged period, it moving toward an IPC chassis short after the station bound stuff began. Though some deterioration would logically be present, the sharding wouldn't have been very intensive and major personality deterioration as a result of repeated sharding wasn't anything I had in mind. As for lifespan, it's likely that some of it was shaved off, but specifics for that won't likely be met in play.
  5. I really like this idea actually, some of my favorite rounds have been dead shifts lacking engineering solely because of the loss of lighting. Obviously with a system like this it wouldn't be quite to the same effect, but having an effective "night" setting to the station would be something I'd absolutely love.
  6. Gave Lyla a cat, Lyla had an allergic reaction, refused to let Lyla give the cat back. EVIL
  7. Finlay is one of the exceptionally competent engineer's/atmospheric techs who actually know quite a bit of the minor details of the role that many others often overlook. Character wise, I think he would work well as Chief Engineer, he's one of those characters who can sort of fall into the background, you won't often see him fucking around, but he does his job, and well. Definitely someone I look for on the manifest when deciding what character to play. Basically, he'd make a good fit and I'm happy to see he's still around. +1
  8. I wouldn't have any issue with a patreon/paypal approach, the people who would be in charge of that have proven themselves to be more trustworthy than most with that kind of thing. I don't think they need to all divulge IRL information to each other though, that's silly. Even though this has already been iterated and re-iterated on it's still something I want to put my two cents on, completely against benefits stemming from donations. Wall of donators is no issue, even if it is a charity thing, I'm sure people would be happy with their contribution being noted in some way. But elitism and separation between donators and non-donators would definitely become an issue if that was implemented. BUT luckily it looks like no one is interested in that in the first place, so I didn't even have to mention it.
  9. There's two types of shields, hull and bubble. Hull hugs the outer lining of the station and will block shuttles if they aren't docked, it also makes it hard to get out of the station without blowing a hole in it. Bubble shield is deployed at a radius in all directions. So yes, you can use the bubble shield to not screw with all of that but the placement is more important and it isn't ideal for every situation, carp for example may spawn inside of it and still attack the windows.
  10. Setting up the shield from scratch in an emergency takes like 2-3 minutes, running a wire grille around the entire station would take at least 15. WHAT ARE YOU HIGH ON AND WILL YOU PLEASE PASS IT
  11. BYOND Key: Whiterabit Character Names: Alexis Sutton, Aaliyah Kha’Jur, Stephanie Moore, Verna Marshall, Karagh Mi’dynh, Sarah Pershing, Katie Auman, Natalya Zimmer, Sierra Gray, Katherine Isaman, Zijiri Kah’ra, Vesiki Shla’zek, Lyla Rathen, Sadi Karim, Veriqua Les-Quelen Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Its that time again, and I want to expand my whitelist holdings. I’ve got a couple ideas for characters that could benefit from the IPC dynamic so of course I have to add it to the collection. Originally I had planned to hold off until the antag contest’s closing, hoping for the anti-synth victory as I personally thought I’d enjoy the RP resulting from it more. Whether they win or lose, I still think I can make it work though. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are considered to be one of the most flexible whitelisted races and the characters differ so much, it can be a bit hard to make a list of things which they all share personality wise. Most of the static changes will come from the mechanics, a fear of EMPs plus their difference in healing and the inability to do it themselves. But past that, for the personality, they can vary greatly. Some may mimic the human personality while others may simply play the role of a mass produced IPC off the assembly line. Character Name: Kalina Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs What do you like about this character? I enjoy the character’s professionality and generally kind nature, mostly stemming from their roots. The base personality already being established somewhat from playing it as a station bound and AI previously. Past that, the dynamic of being an unlawed IPC, though still owned is something I feel fits the current climate well. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Per usual, I don’t like to comment on that myself, personal biases. I prefer to let player feedback speak for or against me. Notes: First app I didn't spend around a week stressing on. Here's hoping I don't regret half of it once I've actually slept.
  12. I agree this is a great idea and will make my attempts to seduce the dykes at research much easier.
  13. What have you done. ITS WORSE THAN I IMAGINED
  14. Gross, I'd rather not be a walking banana.
  15. Investigation was stopped a while back, Cadmus is no longer a present character. Closing this thread.
  16. Reported person doesn't play at Aurora anymore. Closing.
  17. Central is no longer an IPC character, closing this IR.
  18. Since this IR relates so heavily to antag action, it's being closed. If you believe the actions reported here are severe enough to warrant a character complaint, you can file one in the Character/Player Complaints board. https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewforum.php?f=35
  19. Aobshe seems to have a good understanding of the race and I saw nothing wrong with his backstory. I enjoy interacting with all of his other characters and the player is definitely capable of playing skrell respectably. I'm very excited at the aspect of having even more squish HoPs but hopefully this one doesn't start swooning for the bald janitor as well. +1
