Make Armour and Spacesuits Take Time to Equip
Pacmandevil replied to Superiorform's topic in Archive
I -1 this for the sole reason this adds very little, if anything to the game, and just serves to be another "you have to stand still for x time to wear something" I can't wait untill we have to sit still for 30 seconds to eat food. -
....despite this barely affecting antags. Any resourceful antag's not going to go up to cargo to ask for firing pins. there'd be several ways of getting them. Regardless - I think that the general oppinion expressed here is negative.

[2 Dismissal archived]Command and antaggery.
Pacmandevil replied to Pratepresidenten's topic in Archive
Borgs also have numerous built in killswitches they can't really do much about. Blance wise you can shit on a borg with EMPs, A crossbow, the console that kills them, the AI. They also psychically can't be lings or vamps. so I don't see what this adds to the suggestion. I think the only antags they CAN be are malf (which can be solved by unbinding them from the AI and resetting laws) and autotraitor. and borgs by default also are not implanted with something that forces loyalty to Nanotrasen. they only have laws. I seriously doubt a ling/vamp captain/hos would even be possible. perhaps vamp at worst. -
1) So, by your admission, this is a proposed, rather major change, to a department you don't really play all that much - I prefer it when someone with deep department experience weighs in on changes proposed to their department. I played an RD and often an antag RD/Scientist here on Aurora for my first whole year almost exclusively. This change would have been very negative, and, as I mentioned before, I've played under similar circumstances on other servers. The change is unneeded, and takes a way a great deal of the power of the department to make itself useful without requiring permission, help, or extended thievery/trickery they may not be capable of on a given round. 2) Valid-hunting scientists pretty much never happens. A scientist who makes a weapon to defend themselves or to equip sec in a pinch, sure... but I just haven't seen anyone ever scream for this. The amount of R&D needed to make guns that stack up against the armory is ALREADY something that requires cooperation with cargo, and quite often doesn't even happen because no miner, or, no one bothers to bring the materials in the first place. 3) Science-based antags have a really good path to enabling themselves via the protolathe as it stands. This just nerfs that - to no benefit. The station already has to deal with peace antags and boring rounds because antags get robusted by security before having a chance to cause any conflict. This change just makes those holes deeper. When I am a rev in the science department, I arm revs from that protolathe. When I am a rev from another department I seek an R&D collaborator to arm my guys secretly. This change would just get in my way and make a thing more difficult that is already plenty difficult to accomplish without getting caught and ended. I say nay to this, too. 4) Sabotage of guns? Why? This would be something that happened one out of 100 rounds and wouldn't even lead to anything cool. No thanks. This sounds like a valid-hunter's wet dream, to me. "Look, it just got way harder for antags to arm up. lol that means we 'win' more often!". Is your main a security toon? Are you a malf player or someone who would be generally be unaffected by this? It seems like you're throwing a suggestion without really considering the consequences for the department. I'm just not a fan. Thanks for addressing my questions. Firing pins are a bad idea - I've played with similar stuff and it just makes R&D something EVEN LESS people will bother with... making Robotics the only worthwhile job in science besides maybe Toxins, before someone suggests nerfing that, too. "Only RD can unlock phoron canisters" etc. Science is like my second/third most played job - a close match to medical. I'd say I have over a hundred/150 hours of each on aurora. and at least 300 on my main job, which is mining. - I play this game a LOT You just described 99% of SS13: How often do you see an antag using artifacts? How often do you see hellchems, or people sabotaging lightbulbs or power cells? That's just factually incorrect. it makes it way harder for Non Antags To arm up. any resourceful antag should be able to get a firing pin with ease.
-
It's almost like you should have a reason to make weapons that can be used everywhere on station. :thonk: You'll also be able to find them in maint. it's on the To-do list in the PR.
-
1) Not my main character, but I play science semi-Often. but even then - no, because I'm not one of those scientists that print off the whole armory, any weapons testing I still want to do would be a simple matter of slotting in a test firing pin and using that. Hell this could technically be an improvement because now there's an actual place TO test weapons. 2) Mechanically limits Valid hunting scientists, or science arming Sec with an absurd amount of guns without much issue, both of which are pretty cheesy strats. and pretty well negate hard-to-do antag actions like stealing/emptying the armory. 3) Antags, and people in general. Mostly antags - because they'll remain mostly uneffected by this change - due to the ablility to get firing pins From the uplink - the lathe with enough illegal tech - maint - the cargo warehouse. this would barely effect any antags asides from perhaps cult - which this probably helps the theme of in the long run, and revs - of which rarely get guns from science anyway - but if they do, they can just run in maint for a bit and look for a pin. 4) as stated above, not really. they can still make obsessive ammounts of guns, they just need to go through the effort of getting a pin. this in theory would allow the sabotage of guns as well, so this gives even more antag options in the long run.
-
That is among the things I have to map in, yes. but that will be addressed.
-
You're acting like this flat out removes guns. * You can still test if you get the testing firing pin * You can still get firing pins, and this does technicially bring more RP in the form that you actually have to interact with fellow crew if you want a gun that works outside research. * It's not even a subcategory of job if nobody ever does weapon testing. though I'm mapping in the testing area anyway because people will complain regardless. *Research has the rest of the department. it's not just guns. R&D being a pretty shitty system is already being addressed by Ron, I think, and either way, not having access to guns doesn't ruin science at all. you still have: *Toxins *Chemistry to dick around with *Telescience Among the other machines you can build with the equipment the department has.
-
There's a testing firing pin. which limits to a specific area.
-
A lot of things are ahelp issues. though mechanics generally preventing such behaiviour are better in the long run, less work for the 'mins, and not all things get ahelped.
-
Yes, like the ones on TG. No, not all of them. My reasoning for this is as Follows: Nerfs the SHIT out of Scientists printing off the whole armory - universally usable Firing pins will ideally only bought from cargo - and perhaps a few in the armory at roundstart. giving the RD some testing firing pins that are only usable in science - or perhaps a dedicated firing range would be ideal. Also prevents science antags from printing off guns like it's Christmas - Ideally there would be firing pins in the uplink - presumably cheap, and perhaps as a rare find in maint to still make them usable. Allows the sabotage of guns with enough preemptive planning. Probably a bunch of stuff. I'd be willing to code this.

Update the Hoverpod to reflect Multi-Z Formatting
Pacmandevil replied to DronzTheWolf's topic in Archive
Could you not just copy/paste some jetpack code from RIGsuits to have a 'Propulsion' tab when inside the hoverpod? See at first glance that sounds possible. but it's mech code. Rigsuits are more or less armor that lets you do shit. Mechs are a glorified locker on legs. -
>IT: This guy still uses floppy disks, computers are inaccessible to them, they can only look at already open consoles, but buttons they click will lead to bad things like C: drive formatting. Don't we ONLY use floppy disks?

see on one hand - this is a reasonable suggestion. On the other hand - it's mech code. -
I feel the same way. I've actually been meaning to port a bunch of Polaris's emotes over, I'm pretty sure vomiting is one of them.

See - the reason I picked CMO out of all the devolp a head character for, is that a Good CMO is Forced to RP just by doing the job correctly which it's not like people do ree and I think that you're overstating the "Severe Lack" in RP to an extent. I will openly admit that I won't put as much RP in game as I will in say Discord - and I mean this as starting RP. I never (At least in Recent times) Make an effort to break character, or even have done so recently. There's a couple of hurdles I'll have to get used to if playing CMO - of which is making an effort to interact with more people Icly. I also intend to do the job correctly - This means paperwork as well, which I've noticed a large lack of the few times I get administered to medical. (Though I always do paperwork when I do MD. fuck doing it as mining though, the QM can do it.) The character - admittedly by design, isnt going to hop into something and start RP Unless: A. they notice someone doing something wrong, being a shitter or otherwise or B. Need to step in for mechanical reasons. I'm not going to claim to be the best, or even really even good at RPing. but the job kinda makes me, if that makes sense. so I've designed the character around that fact. though I shudder to think of when I will eventually, because it's going to happen, join Fernando as a head of staff. -
[Accepted] Coalf's Heads of Staff, HoP, application.
Pacmandevil replied to Coalf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Coalf is a nice enough person, and though my IC interactions with him have been few and far between, I think if he was as capable as RPing as he was shitposting Moderating, then you'd have no worry about him getting a head access. While the dislikes initially seem accurate, Coalf would seemingly have no trouble RPing as this character, though I'm not sure a self insert character is in everyone's interest. This is a solid +1 from me. -

Issue spotted and corrected, you can now refer to them as "Diamond Sparkletits" -
BYOND key: Pacmandevil Character names: Eldmund Fernando (wew) Triston Richards, Jake Todd. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: IIRC like - hell. over a year now at least, I think? Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'm going to be blunt here: I'm tired of incompetent people in medical, most of which admittedly have pink hair. This character's not supposed to be a "Cleanse the heratics" character, far from it. but more of a character that'll teach Incompetent people how to properly play medical. Will it be a liked character by most? No, I very much doubt it. this character by design is hard to please, and quick to anger with incompetence. Why did you come to Aurora?: Because I Like the slower pace, and regulations enforced on the crew. it feels less like "farty 2d spessmens" - which mind you, has it's time and place, just not here. SS13 with standards. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have the wiki open near constantly when playing, or when coding. so that would be a yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay - as a concept, is pretending to be something you're not. (Unless you're actually RPing something you are, but that's beside the point.) in SS13, said RP is exaggerated to a large extent, even here. with things such as Security having laughably small brig sentences. this is more to suit the gameplay of the server rather than RP, admittedly. RP should *not* about having a "special" character that clashes visually with normal characters for attention (See, neon haired stuttering nurses) it should, however be about making a somewhat believable character that fits in with the rest of the crew, without sticking out like a sore thumb. (I know I'll get called out with Fernando for this, but I think I've done a decent job evolving a character that started off as a griffer meme character when I first joined the server, to a somewhat believable character, of which I'm still trying to trim all the meme-turned snowflake stuff off of.) What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of the CMO (as that's mostly what I'm applying for, for now.) is to manage the department, and less be doing everything themselves. this means keeping everyone managed when shit hits the fan. And among other things, they guide new players somewhat regarding Conduct (and to an extent, Game mechanics) In game, heads often have to make decisions regarding events in said rounds, an example of this can be how to deal with antags, among other things. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: to me, at least. Whitelisted players have three main commandments. * Don't fuck with other people's RP for no reason. - if doctors are playing a game of cards in medical, you shouldn't try to get them arrested for neglect of duty if nothing's going on. if the station is in shambles and there's corpses up the walls, then it'd be fair to, as an example. *Give antags a chance - This doesn't apply as much to the CMO, but all heads of staff generally have the chance to make or break the antag's round in the backround. Eg: if the heads of staff decide to arrest a wizard for trespassing, instead of allowing entry. if they're flat out ganking people though, it's perfectly understandable to deal with the threat. The reason this is - is that generally the remainder of the round will be pretty boring for the crew. this of course doesn't apply to extended. because extended is already boring *Maintain the department - This doesn't mean "No fun allowed reee" - it means keep standards to your department, EG a CMO should rightfully get angry if someone's getting operated on without sedatives, or without gloves or something. also called "Common sense". Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Isadore Larson Character age: 46 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Alright, admittedly this is probably the hardest part about character creation for me. I suck at backstories. Almost all of my characters are based on some type of trope and general personality traits. - Big buff miner, Friendly mallcop-Security Officer, Polite and professional MD. I in general work slowly on backstories, filling them out as required as I get more comfortable RPing as said character, and get a feel for what would fit them best. I'm not saying I'm good at this by any means, but just as a principle, they'd have all the experience required to be the CMO. all the schooling etc, perhaps like 8 years of experience? I'm not going to play this character as SuperCMO, they barely know chemistry (Like think science kit tier. I'm not doing chemistry in game as a general rule.) , and generally specialist in surgery and MDing. Other than that, I like to well, evolve the character as I go. I've been working on Fernando for like a year now and still am not happy with it at all. Edit because the above isn't an actual biography but I need one for whatever reason. I'm not deleting it because it's relevant.: The basic timeline would be: At around 15, Izadore was a big sports kinda dude, joined a sports club or something. messed their knee up which shut that idea down. then - because they were gunning for a carrier in sports and diddled their knee - they started from scratch for a carrier in medical. They enlisted in the Biesel institute of medical sciences at the age of 18 - and finished undergrad four years later. - they had no social life during this time, so of course they had decent grades. they got a MD degree another four years later, being 26 at this time. Stayed in a surgical residency at UristMcMedical Station for about 7 years, worked as a surgeon there for another 4. Signed a contract With Nanotrasen for a while I honestly don't know. Worked on NT stations for about 6 years, before getting promoted to CMO. Yes this is short - because I haven't developed the character at all yet. The below kept for sanity purposes. Started medical school at 18 at the Biesel Institute of Medical Sciences - Finished undergrad four years later. A farther four years to get a MD degree. About 7 years of surgical residency at a Hospital station - I couldn't find a wiki page for this, and I'd rather not make headcanon. about 9 years of work as a surgeon, presumably on a NT ship or station. Got a promotion to CMO at around age 42. All of the above is subject to change, and likely will be changed during the development of the character. What do you like about this character?: Hopefully their high standards will improve medical, they're harsh. and have high standards. expecting everyone to be professional at their duties, and not being happy when they aren't. Stuff like breaks or whatever is fine, Isadore's not going to care if a Paramedic's playing a game of cards if nobody's injured. but if a Surgeon's incompetent, they won't be happy. What do you dislike about this character?: At worst, the character will make newer players dislike playing Medical when I'm around. as a character: they're likely going to be unlikable if you're the that made them deal with you. A good comparison would be Gordon Ramsey but a CMO, as they're a heavy inspiration for the character. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: They have high standards-likely more than most CMOs on station, and won't tolerate laziness. or Ignorance. people are supposed to be professionals. that means knowing how to do their job. If it's painfully obvious that someone's new, then I'll make an effort to guide them. but if they're being detrimental to the department, they won't be tolerated. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

I support the revert. the old lore was more interesting to me for numerous reasons.

Nerf aim intent and readjust its initial purpose
Pacmandevil replied to Scheveningen's topic in Completed Projects
The problem with this is that the whole "Aiming thing" Is the same amount of Effort as a single shot without it, and provides loads of benefits, including a higher hit chance. It Ideally should only be used to start a shootout, and not used in it at all, so preparedness is still awarded with the whole "First shot" advantage, without any bullshit autoaim afterwards. Git gud. you have a gun, and aimed at them to shoot them, so click on them if they're running away. -
