  1. If anything, Dea doesn't deserve a complaint against her, you do. Why? OOC: Letz Shake: uptight levels reaching critical mass Let me start with the fact that you just disrespected a member of staff in an insulting way. If there's one thing that you don't ever, ever, ever, ever do, then it's insult staff members. We don't have to do anything we are simply here, giving the players our time that could be better spent on other things. We're doing this voluntarily. We don't get paid, we don't get given anything except for the community having a wonderful time. If there's absolutely one thing that carries a zero tolerance policy on Aurora, then it's insulting staff. You were in the wrong the very moment you decided to sass Dea when she politely said "Lets not talk about X". When staff tells you to do something, there's no ifs, ands or buts. You do it, and you especially do not sass the staff member for telling you to do something. Once you insult staff, you no longer have a leg to stand on when hoping for leniency. That being said, I'd say Dea's actions are perfectly justified, and more surprised she didn't take any further action against you for it aside from a miniscule OOC mute. If anything, you should be thanking Dea for not being even more harsh.
  2. Along with that, I guess I don't really feel comfortable with a character like this as a head of staff. The last few times I've seen Serenity as a roboticist was with Karis Straughan, and it seemed like Serenity would cuss her out just for being there? It makes me have doubts on Serenity's capabilities as a head of staff because behavior like this in no way, shape or form cultivates an efficient or productive workplace.
  3. Hello, two things: 1) I have edited your application to put bold text on the questions in order to make your application significantly easier to read. 2) You have one, veryout-standing note concerning your role playing: I want you to answer the following questions (in short answers, not simply yes/no) in order to clear my mind of doubt: 1) What exactly caused you to carry out these events? 2) Do you understand why this behavior is wrong? 3) How have you learned from this experience? 4) Are you going to repeat this behavior in the future?
  4. Hello! I'm here to express a concern about this specific part about your character. Dea, FFrances, and I agree that this specific part of Katelynn's back story seems pretty snowflake-y, but that your back story was very well up to the point that Katelynn McMullen was pretty much remade into a robot. Could I ask you to please look over this part of your backstory, and see how else that could've ended? Along with this, I hope Katelynn didn't have direct contact with one of the syndicate agents because if she did, then I will also have to also express the concern of having knowledge about antags. Due to the fact that traumatic events are normally recalled in a snap, of course.
  5. I think it would be best if you did. I mean, if accidentally releasing plasma is your character's fault as a CE, then that doesn't really seem acceptable.
  6. I tried to steer the discussion back to FFrances' question. Lets try that again. ^FFrances' question, which was only answered with "I don't know." ^ A non-lore dev member's reason for why it's not engaging, and what the current Earth lore causes, but should still be responded to by someone that can answer: "What I would like to know, is what exactly this specific scenario brings that's engaging for the players." It seems to me like Gollee knows that Tablespoon knows the answer. Could we please get Tablespoon here if that's the case? Then we'll be able to get somewhere.
  7. I have one issue concerning Terry Paulson: " He is also somewhat clumsy, and sometimes manages to release plasma, while filling the tanks, which is why he keeps his hardsuit on during such an operation." A CE known for being clumsy and at times releasing plasma? Releasing plasma isn't as small of a deal as people make it seem to be. Plasma in the air is highly dangerous and highly toxic. That's an extremely dangerous biohazard. Release of such a toxin (even as a workplace accident) shows that Terry Paulson doesn't have a definitive understanding of handling plasma if they didn't learn after the first time they released it on accident.
  8. Tishina, I feel like you are not actually processing what we are telling you. They were not fired due to a trade dispute, they were fired in response to accidental firing by Earth, resulting in hundreds of millions of deaths. The colonies did not know that the firings were accidental, all they were aware of was Earth hitting them with the most destructive weapons in the human arsenal, without any escalation of force. They fired to, in their eyes, prevent genocide on themselves; not because of a trade dispute. Gollee, how can you not see that a trade dispute (which is pretty much what this thread has made out the internal conflict to be because Earth Gov was screwing other people's economies), that could've been handled in a non-violent manner, ended in bloody conflict, and that bloody conflicted (which could've been avoided) ended in the death of billions upon billions of Humans?
  9. With all due respect, Delta, you can't possibly tell me that you don't see the "edginess" in a species essentially destroying its /home planet/. Yes, essentially destroying because that timeline says that the KKVs fired at Earth literally obscured Earth's surface in smoke and global firestorms. That sounds to me like everyone that ever lived on Earth is dead as a door and marked as 'extra crispy' on the KFC menu. A trade dispute doesn't need to end the way it did. Those are solved through sanctions and other such actions like making more strict laws. How did it end instead? It ended in ash, blood, and silence. Soft rains did not come. Regardless, FFrances' question is more important on how this engages the players. If anything, the destruction of Earth isn't very user friendly. Spend a while making a character from Earth, deciding "Meh, I'm going to make them from X country. I think that'll be neat", but then after you say that IC'ly, everybody immediately starts ridiculing you IC'ly because Earth is basically nothing but ash. If Americans are still all like "Never forget" every single September because a building was destroy, and thus ending 2,900+ lives, then why aren't the Humans showing even a single shred of remorse or anger at the fact that Humans themselves destroyed Earth, and put an end to billions upon billions of Human lives? I'll tell you why. Not a single Human cares. No one cares because no one wants to relate with the feeling of the Earth being destroyed. Why? Because we're still living on it. If anything, the destruction of Earth has clearly shown that it has done nothing to engage the players in more interesting RP. This means that if anything, bringing back Earth would create more interesting RP, and give players a reason to actually be from Earth. Otherwise? Otherwise, Earth is that one shithole planet that everyone goes to, to have an edgy character that's from badlands.
  10. Ckey/BYOND Username: TishinaStalker Position Being Applied For: Lore developer Past Experiences/Knowledge: Throughout my life, writing has been one of my passions. I like to think that I am great at what I do, as I try to make my readers feel invested in the story. I'd like to believe that my most recent story for my Creative Writing college course presents it. I personally feel like I can make a great lore dev because once I pick up momentum in my writing, then I don't stop until I finish, and am generally able to crank 10 - 15 pages in about 2 hours. Examples of Past Work: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X6kLyKOshsF8_rVtUKjkVJvE_B_EcNIlNamsAfSJNJE/edit?usp=sharing This is a twelve page story I wrote, titled This War of Mine. Following the month a family of five spent in a city under siege. It was partially inspired by a video game of the same name (the events of one of my plathroughs is what I wrote this on), but more written by the fact that war has been something that has always disturbed me. Especially when cities come under siege because, as the video game says: In war, not everyone is a soldier. Preferred Mode of Communication: Skype and Steam. Additional Comments: I think world building is something I can do perfectly fine as I have DM'd many campaigns before with various TTRPG systems, but never once did I ever use a default setting provided by said system. I have always created my own settings with its own, unique towns, religions, people, politics, etc. I absolutely /love/ writing. If you give me a writing task, then I will jump at the thought, and get to it as soon as I find some relevant music to help me pick up momentum. I feel like I could actually do good for the lore team thanks to this as I enjoy completing my tasks almost as much as I enjoy writing.
  11. I mean what was the lore team trying to accomplish by making Humans destroy Earth? It certainly (at least in my eyes) doesn't seem very interesting, and all it does is to make Humanity's history more edgy and grimdark. I apologize for being blunt, but that whole explanation you just gave seems like it was just a dumb trade dispute that could've easily been solved through diplomatic action, instead of it ending with Humans deciding that they're going to blow up their /home planet/.
  12. Alright... What exactly /is/ the reason of this "holocaust"? Was it to force Humanity to colonize other planets? What exactly was the goal when the lore team decided that Earth is literally being turned into a ball of fire and poison?
  13. Why does there need to be genocide like this at all? Why would a species that is trying to become a super power in known space decide to billions of its people killed? There is a term for this, and that is conflict of interest. If anything, genocide by bombing Earth's orbit, the use of KKVs to kill swaths of its /own/ population, etc. just makes Earth an incredibly edgy and grimdark planet as has been stated on the thread so far. Currently, the KKV's are fired at earth, after earth fires some accidentally during a military coup, and wipes out millions of people, and a number of cities on inner colonies. That doesn't answer my question on why there needs to be genocide between Humans. What kind of coup was this? What were they rebelling against? This doesn't seem to make sense. The wiki page doesn't even give a brief couple of sentence long explanation on /why/ that civil war happened.

  15. Hello! I'm here because I have a particular concern with your character's biography. Now, I wanted to state that I think that the character you plan on using requires one, very important change. It appears that the character is exactly 32 years old, but didn't start working as an engineer for NT until he was 32 years old. Along with the requirement of being at least 30 years of age, the character is required to have worked a minimum of five years before being considered for a head of staff position of said department. You could set his character age to 37, and keep that he didn't get his job in NT until he was 32; thus solving the issue.
  16. I support this item application, but I was just wondering one thing... Wouldn't it be better to also make this a default item that can be found in the Detective and Forensic Technician lockers? I don't think Detectives would mind having a jacket that isn't noir for those players that partly dislike the theme, and the Blue/Red Jacket the Forensic Technician gets doesn't really mean anything unless examined? Unless you examined the Blue/Red Jacket when they're not wearing it, then they don't really have much of an indicator of their job (sans OOC knowledge that the F-Tech gets the Blue/Red Jacket).
  17. See, there's an issue with it though. The point of custom items is that they're supposed to be something that you can create interesting RP with. If we want to take this to an IC standpoint, you would think that using a welding torch that NT cannot regulate would be the best solution in the case of the hand sustaining dents during work. Not only would he not have to risk losing his own tool, he'd also save cash in fuel. Now, going back to the point of using these to create RP, tell me /how/ you could create RP using a welding torch? All I can think of is just shoving the tool in front of people's faces, all like "Look at it and ask me about it" because I don't see why anyone would even seem remotely curious about a dude bringing a welding torch to work. Why would your measly welding torch make people go "Oh, this guy seems interesting. I should talk to them." If their robotic hand should be able to do the job just fine?
  18. Except that generally things that seem more realistic are what's favored? There's no point in having sleep toxin laced lipstick if you have: 1) A subconscious tick that will make you ingest said poison. 2) A sleepy pen.
  19. Why not just pick up a welder torch and wire that's readily available in Primary Tool Storage on the way to your department?

  21. See, I never entirely understood why Earth was turned into a giant ball of poison. I've always thought the same thing that it doesn't seem friendly to people that aren't aware of that. Not to mention that the distinct lack of Earth is pretty much what's causing all these weirdo planet lore apps. We've had an application for the European Union in Space, Britain in Space, and Communist India in Space. Then in the lore, we literally have AMERICA IN SPACE (See: United Colonies of America) which is 84% 'murrican population. The destruction of Earth hasn't really created any boon, and none of the Humans really seem to care that the planet they started on is dead. The thought of it is rather unsettling, and could be compared to a person not caring that their mother died. I've always thought that Earth should be kept unbroken, possibly getting by through terraforming (due to the melting of polar ice caps and other such situations such as Humans going over their carrying capacity [which can be resolved through trade]). Through the discovery of other species by space travel, the lines of countries and race would blur out to the point that it would only be something you mark for Nationality while for Race you would mark Human. The discovery of other species by space travel would be a real wake up call to Humanity on how they cannot allow the world to be held down by the silly notion of race because as Lincoln once said, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." It seems like looking through rose-tinted glasses, but at a point like that it's either Humanity sucks it up and works together or they get left behind by the species that don't let race stand in the way. I've honestly been looking to propose that this be done because this way, Terrans can still identify with a specific culture (as getting over the culture of one's country is something very hard to do), but at the same time, they'd identify as Human. In my personal opinion, the best factions in Tau Ceti to reflect this are The Republic of Biesel and The Republic of Elyra. Biesel was a massive cooperative Human movement while Elyra was also a massive cooperative Human movement, but amongst the Middle Eastern and African countries of Earth after they formed their own space program.
  22. I'm sorry, Valk, but as the Warden of that round, I can assure you all of sec knew that all three operatives were in the port primary hallway because the hostage takers were talking to us via sec channel, the AI announced it over the sec channel, and one of the hostages was a sec officer that was begging security to not do something that would get them killed. They were all bolted into that hall by the AI. As for this though, to be fair (and I apologize for playing devil's advocate), Houssam originally didn't do something that deserved such a lethal response from an officer that had ready access to equipment to keep him down/restrained without lethal action. Houssam, on the other hand, did not. In the time it would take Houssam to strip the officer of a sec belt, and then reorganize his stuff to acquire cuffs or a stunbaton, the officer would've gotten back up to retaliate once more (most surely with a disarm to push Houssam down). It seems to me like the officer had all of the non-lethal options, but the operative had none of them. Edit: I'd also like to apologize to Deffos if it seems that I might have "something against him", as I had to contact him post-mortem to make sure he understood that staff are not to be insulted. I apologized for having come off as aggressive in that moment, but I just want him to know that I'm not saying this due to being angry at him or anything.
  23. Sue pretty much ended the suggestion with that.
  24. And at that point it is powergaming, and foregoing RP in order to play-to-win while simultaneously being against rules. All this means is that it's one, tiny issue that staff can easily make sure doesn't occur.
  25. Yes, it is, but to the extent of what the player did seemed like the worst use for it imaginable. This is why the complaint is being filed. The situation was that three, armed nuclear operatives were in the port primary hallway with three or four hostages. That's /way/ too many civilians in the crossfire for that hallway. The officer went in, by himself, threw a flashbang in, and then started unloading an SMG into a downed operative that he could've cuffed and immediately dragged away, but instead risked letting the operative get up before getting annihilated. Rambo'ing is a serious issue with Security at times because they straight up use mechanics, and don't think IC'ly about the victims; in fact there have been situations where sec has /fired/ on hostages in order to rambo the hostage takers. The officer went in, by himself, to flashbang three operatives, while knowing well that he would not be able to dispatch all three efficiently, and that, that would lead to injuries and casualties, but this was ignored in favor of playing-to-win. This behavior thus makes it worthy of a complaint once the IC situation is explained.
