[Completed] Bryce Faust's Military Uniform
TishinaStalker replied to Hackie's topic in Completed Items
Sure, I'll do it. Seems easy enough. However, considering I usually wear the Detective's coat, I doubt that I'll need to wear a band. But any other department I'll play Bryce in, for sure. For the detective, just wear the holobadge in your locker (since you shouldn't have your holster on you anyhow on code green because... you know... weaponry must be concealed). -

My question still stands on if you'll abide by wearing something to identify your department. -
[Completed] Bryce Faust's Military Uniform
TishinaStalker replied to Hackie's topic in Completed Items
I can most definitely get behind this custom item application, but I only ask one thing of you: Wear an armband of your corresponding department when playing Bryce Faust once this item is complete and implemented. Alright? Nanotrasen would not permit casual clothing all the time, but I can see it making an exception for something like this for ex-military personnel because otherwise it would be a big PR hit if people found out that soldiers were being mistreated or not allowing them to wear their duty uniform. They could ask nicely, but somebody might be offended by a request to not wear it, and that's what they would want to avoid I believe. As such, wear something that identifies your department (holobadge for security, cargo armband as technician, etc.) -
Post a new one. I'll be denying this application and then locking and archiving it now. Don't be afraid to post a new custom item application simply because this one was denied.

We Should Have a Talk of the Current State of Aurora
TishinaStalker replied to Hartburry's topic in General
No. Literally. Just. No. Oh, lets just deal with the assistant AFTER he kills more than two people. That's definitely not ruining the round for them so that a griefer can have fun, right? No, that's not how it works. I'll tell you how it works: Stereotypical bald 30 year old logs in as Warden Accesses armory immediately Gets rifle Takes rifle out of armory on code green without a word Admin is quietly watching Person fires once at innocent person Dropped, questioned, and most surely banned I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, but this is the worst idea, Delta. Asking us to do what you said Delta is literally asking us to let grief go by PERFECTLY fine without a care until after it was resolved IC'ly. This is not going to fly. Why? Because it is extremely disruptive to the round. I'm not going to give you IC permission to mass drive a griefer out of the station. Why? Because that's breaking the rules in of itself (playing an insane character). If people are griefing, they're going to be stopped immediately. If we let grief go by, then people will think "Hey! I can grief on this server, and I won't get banned until after I do it!" That gives every griefer and their mother's a reason to come to Aurora. If you want grief, then you go to grief station. You don't come to Aurora because the staff is always vigilant. -
Not to sound like an asshole, but I'm not really reading an apology for your IC actions. You must do that because if you can't apologize for an action, then you're doomed to repeat it from what I have learned about Human behavior. No apologizing "between the lines". Straight up say you're sorry for it just like every other person who gets a successful appeal because a long apology (anything more than "I'm sorry") is how you show that you did truly learn.
-
And with that, my thoughts of you having premeditated this are gone. It's better to hear it from the person themselves to clear up doubts. Thank you. I was just ensuring that this was understood. Honestly, I don't know you well enough at a personal level to fully comperehend if you're trying to shunt blame in your head, but just not saying it like people often do when they're in trouble. See, I only agree with the "cool RP was had" if we're referring to the rest of the round, but not what happened in the corridor. There was no RP there. Only people repeatedly firing and smacking each other. This is one of the main reasons I (at that moment) had been heavily considering an actual tempban as opposed to a simple job ban from loyalty implanted positions. Believe it or not, you have to. You claim you feel "justified" in breaking the rules, but that's not how it works. People have attempted to break the EoR rule in a weak attempt to "make RP", but it always ends poorly. One time, a nuclear operative tried to get into the command portion of the shuttle to take the captain hostage, but instead only a firefight ensued. You sparked the powder keg that caused nothing but massive attack logs in that corridor. There wasn't any RP. There was just a person with a gun, an HoS confused as to why he was just tased, and then a whole lot of wounded personnel. There was no words. There was only gunfire and harmbatons. As for the rest, I'm glad you learned your lesson, but I will not accept your appeal if you can't look at your IC interaction during this part of the round, and notice that it was a terrible move IC'ly. You had no motive to give weapons to unauthorized personnel as a loyalty implanted person. You had no justification to do it.
-
Lets not forget to add that you giving Nasir the energy carbine led to a massive firefight in the adjacent hallway which resulted in death and heavily injured personnel... all after the shuttle had docked. What bothers me is that this seems less of a mistake, and more of something that was premeditated. Here's why I think it was premeditated: Nasir was heavily abused by Security. This means that he, by the nature of his character (which you know very well of OOC'ly), would've grown great contempt for Security. You were the captain. Which means you knew what was happening to Nasir. You generally play loyalty implanted positions (Isilithai Uaekis as your Head of Security and your primary character, and then your Skrell Captain). You know perfectly well what a loyalty implant entails, how to act, and what things you shouldn't do. Would it be in NT's (or anybody's in this matter) interest to give clearly jumpy and skittish personnel a weapon that can be easily made lethal? With this, you enabled one, major rule break that caused 5+ people to take part of, and caused staff to lose control of the situation in starboard primary; all because you acted. What was this rule break? "-End-round grief is punishable by an automatic 3-day ban. The moment the shuttle docks with the station, all conflict is expected to end in and around the shuttle boarding area. (Escape and adjacent corridor)." This was most certainly not because of your "inaction" as you claim. It was because of your action. This wasn't Nasir's fault, this wasn't Security's fault, this wasn't the HoS' (who Nasir went up to tase) fault. You gave somebody a mean, and they used it; it is your fault. I can understand wanting to make RP, but there's a clear line between making RP and straight up acting to break the rules, and you very clearly crossed the line. Now, how are we going to avoid this in the future? What have we learned from this?

BYOND key: TishinaStalker Character names: Rebecca Inn, Frankie Inn, Sarah Inn, Integra Langley, Lunea Discata, HKDR-355 (security cyborg), GH-057 (AI) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since late July of 2014. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I think it's high time I applied for being a head of staff. Why did you come to Aurora?: Originally, my first impressions of Aurora were negative. The first round I observed it was to seeing the captain and HoS having a shirtless RP fight with sensual touches while a lady with "DD cups" in her fluff text watched. I was just like "Wtf... Heads of staff should not be doing this. This isn't why you're on the station." And I didn't come back because I like to take heads of staff very seriously, but then I came back a week later and stayed because I had a gut feeling that things could and will get better. And you know what? Things did get better. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Thrice over, and I have lots of the wiki pages bookmarked for if I need them in a flash, but I generally have things memorized by heart (such as all of the medicine you can make in Chemistry) Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is what I'm here for. I'm here to make a character that isn't me. I'm here to make a person that's entirely different to who I am (for example, Integra Langley is a character that is cold and distant from people she doesn't know on a first name basis, but I could never be like this in real life). I write up my character, I define them initially, but I make sure that they're still moldable. The point of roleplay is to make interesting events. Make a character, play it, stick by who they are and how they'd act, and have them develop; like a real person. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to be there as a pillar of support for players that are not wholly sure of what they are doing, being passive vigils for staff, and to make new players feel welcome to the community to some extent. By watching over their department and employees, they can lend help to players through LOOC if they notice that the player is struggling so that the player doesn't have to ahelp, and if they see somebody acting suspiciously, then they can immediately report the suspicious behavior to staff. Staff is not omniscient, even we need help every now and then to keep the server safe and sound. Along with that, a head of staff’s job in-game is to keep a constant eye over his department. New players feel more welcome when there’s a head of staff that keeps close attention to what everybody is doing. Why? Because that tells the player “I have somebody to get feedback from on how I did!” Who doesn’t like getting feedback on their character and performance? What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of whitelisted players is several things. Checking the employment records and ages of people in their departments for example, and then reporting to administration/moderation staff people who would not be qualified for the position or have absurd information in their records (such as a previous encounter with a changeling on their sec or medical record). This is an IC duty, but OOC’ly it’s a great help. As a member of Security/Medical, I do this every round, and then I talk to those people through PMs (if I have to) before asking them if they'd like this to be handled in an OOC (e.g. age change through variables) or an IC (i.e. possible termination) manner. Then there's the duties I marked above. As a head of staff, I've always liked watching over my department, paying close attention to who does what, how, and if they submitted the proper paperwork for things they require permission in. When I'm a departmental head of staff (HoS/HoP/RD/CE) and in my department, then hardly anything escapes my view. I always lend a hand if they need it (whether through IC or OOC means), and it’s hard to find me without knowing what’s going on in my department. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Bec Hachert Character age: 46 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Born into a family of eight people and raised in an Unitarianist home in United American Republic, Rebecca Inn primarily worked on her family's farm as a job for a good portion of her life. After graduating from high school, she considered joining the Sol Navy as a way to help her folks pay for college because she was enrolled in a Sol ROTC-esque program throughout high school and college while she studied towards a business degree. She wanted her parents to be proud of her and to show her siblings that she could be smart as she was mostly seen by her siblings as a dog; very friendly and loyal, but stupid. After four years of college, Rebecca Inn got her bachelor's degree in Business Management and Administration. After acquiring her degree, Rebecca pursued a career in Sol's armed forces as a logistics officer while working under the command of an Elyran executive commander, named Integra Langley, on board a military space station to ensure that supplies and the like were going where they needed to be. At the same time, Rebecca looked for other, better career opportunities. After a few years, Rebecca caught wind that Nanotrasen was seeking employees for its Security division aboard the Nanotrasen Science Station (NSS) Exodus. Skip a year, and after being promoted to the rank of Security Officer, she met Dennis Hachert who was her partner in most shifts. After a few weeks, Rebecca started to feel a small crush forming, and pursued it off-station after they were transferred to the NSS Aurora. After a couple of years, they were engaged. Not long after that, Dennis and Milo Hachert found themselves on opposite ends of each other’s' weapons. A couple of days later, their bodies were discovered in the desert of New Horizon with a fist-sized hole in both parties' chests. After the event, Rebecca Inn used her vacation time to leave the workplace for a week, and get her head sorted. With the absence of her fiancé and best friend in one swoop, she felt a form of restructuring was in order. She had heard talk from some people that with her performance, a promotion would probably be in order once she met more qualifications for being a head of staff. She moved on, but not without forgetting the people she held close. Believing that she needed a more "respectable" name of sorts, Rebecca legally changed her first name to Bec, and assumed the surname of her would-be-husband and her former best friend. Getting over a hardship and moving on to a brighter tomorrow is what Dennis would've wanted. What do you like about this character?: Mainly the fact that she chose to join as a logistics officer instead of a combat officer. It shows that Rebecca Inn is a person that does not like being in combat, but at the same time she used what she learned from college to succeed. What do you dislike about this character?: Rebecca is the only character I have that I can draw lots of similarities between myself and her. She's very openhanded to people, very kind, and always willing to listen. She believes all people are fundamentally good, but inherit evil. It just feels... Weird sometimes because I feel like it's just putting a part of myself in a game, and that's something I generally try to avoid. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes. Why?: Bec Hachert is at least 30 years of age, has at least 5 years of management experience, and has the necessary degrees and what not. Coupled with this, she's of sound mind, and rational thought processes. She always looks after NT's interests and is a hard worker, even as a non-head of staff, as that is how you move up in the world; you earn it by the sweat of your brow. Please provide well-articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: On a scale of 1 to 10? I'd say a solid 8. I always take into account how my character is feeling about certain situations. I take into account whether they're scared, hungry, in pain, etc. I like to play my character from a first person view so that I can be fully aware of how and who they are. I am very consistent with the believability of my RP, and I’m particularly proud of it. Extra notes: Yeah, I’m one of the staff members that manages who passes and who fails whitelist apps (the other being Deatacita), and I’m unwhitelisted, but that’s because I understand how heads of staff should work and they are something I take very seriously.

[Processing] Dr. Crane's Vibrating Blue Squirrel
TishinaStalker replied to LordFowl's topic in Completed Items
Alright, I think I'm willing to approve this. I think it's nice to see scientists have some form of contraption as a custom item because they can use it to make RP (for example, a roboticist having some form of MMI assembly that they're trying to give more functions to, but there's some sort of issue with it meaning that it's nowhere near to being finished, and probably won't be for a long time). I fully trust your ability to make something interesting come out of this with your fellow scientists, but do ensure that this is written down in your Employment, Medical, and Security record as it is work being brought from home and not you being some whackjob mad scientist. Just one other thing: It will not give you the light of a flashlight. If anything, then it'll give you the light of a PDA. Locking and archiving. -
That would be me, but I left that life behind after I became an admin.

Wer6 - Head of staff - Application
TishinaStalker replied to Wer6's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Application accepted. Glory to Aurora. -
Yes, that is true, but I believe the addition of internal ID logs would add another layer of depth. What happens when you find black glove + hydroponicist uniform fibers on a door, but the log says that a Roboticist accessed the door? Are the fibers more correct? Was it really a roboticist? More doubt is casted on the evidence gathered, requiring more extensive thought and critical thinking for a Detective and Forensic Technician to crack the case; which I believe would make it more enjoyable for the two of them. The FT gathers evidence, as usual, and gets to check the ID logs with head of staff permission (because the terminal for this could be on the Bridge). Then the Detective has more people to question rather than just a single person (which we all most of the time know is the antagonist) because that single person keeps getting pressed until there's a guilty. When there's additional suspects (as nobody ever thinks to change their clothes before committing a crime) it gives the antagonist an additional shroud to throw over to give them a chance if they were smart enough to use an Agent ID.
-
Actually, when I mentioned that I meant for the Odin, but this would make for a wonderful way for antagonists to have an easier time framing people, and could lead to more conflict through sabotage as well as an additional benefit for get a syndie ID from the uplink.

Item has been approved and is currently in the works. We'll most surely use #1 on your list, but also make it a wearable hat so that you have somewhere to keep that it would make sense instead of your pocket or something. No. That's not how it works. Just because lots of people have access to it, does not in any way, shape or FORM tell you that it's okay to go in there unauthorized. If you think that's how corporate regulations work, then maybe we should make murder legal solely because everybody is capable of murder, right? Wrong. Okay, lets take a look from Nanotrasen's view. Your telescientist on a station just used experimental equipment ranging at thousands upon thousands upon thousands of dollars. You'd think that's fine. He's using it for resear-- He did what? He used it to steal equipment from the company?! Yeah, no. He can no longer be trusted as a telescientist. I want him OUT of the science department, and shafted into another department of his qualifications. They wouldn't care about what they spent on you. To keep an untrustworthy individual working as a telescientist is to risk losing even more money and resources. They have 0 reason to keep you in that job, and will be presented with one of two options: Firing you outright or (Edit: ) keeping you working but on a lower priority facility or occupation on Aurora.
-
This screams guilty. So much guilty that it's not even funny. Do you really think that swiping your ID on an airlock to open it (especially in a SECURE area which is, by the way, all of the Science department) would not create a log? If anything, that's the first thing NT would check in the investigation to see what time you entered and left. They figure out who was in it at the time it occurred, and hey-o! Look who's out of a job! Immediate charge of grand theft, and NT could even brand you a terrorist because you were stealing items from a room that had a nuclear weapon. Travis Davis wouldn't survive a single day in a max security prison. Before you say "there was other people in the room", NT would hold them guilty as well for being accomplices. I know you already have this on your character's security records and I say you should scrub it immediately because Travis would not hold a job after that. Don't even try to bring up "he's helped people with it before!" or "he's really good at his job!" because you were stealing from a vault. Now, as a finishing note, do not keep things that would get you fired as canon.
