  1. I like Rex quite a bit and I really love ASSIST. Rex is an interesting character: reclusive, sure, but not inherently anti-social, and that's something that really makes them fun to run into. ASSIST is the kind of cyborg I love: one that actively engages with the crew and tries to legitimately help. I've never had a bad time with either of them!
  2. I'm gonna go ahead and say right now I've got three characters I mainly play, and the most unpredictable rounds go to a character who isn't back in Cargo or hiding in Robotics: an assistant. Because of his role as a general, multi-department assistant, he's been able to get involved in: - Bartending - Sec Cadet Cadet - Xenobotany - Science - Robotics - Typical asshat assistant shenanigans Every time I sign on with Roberto, I have no idea what to expect. I'm a pretty experienced player and I know most of the departments, but the assistant role has allowed me to really flex around and interact with the crew who main these departments. It all comes down to being friendly, persistent and interesting, even if it borders on gimmicky. Strict department only intern roles would kill the experience of meeting a total stranger in a totally new department just by saying, "Sup, brah."
  3. we need an actual shoutbox wait we have discord
  4. While I'm iffy about the agent role, the rest of the changes sound like common sense. Some lower workers have IC reasons to never want to rebel, like being visiting heads of staff n such, but all they have to do is turn off the rev pref and join the loyalists when they bump into em. The head loyalist should be tipped off about revs, giving them IC info to use from round start to prevent revs from instantly converting the whole station. Just like how cultists start with a tome, this guy could start with a stamped form to show around and say "hey watch out for some weird unrest among the workers" and get the loyalists just as active from roundstart as the revs. It's a hard gamemode to balance for sure, but I definitely like the weighted system where the higher up you are, the more loyalist chance you've got, and the lower you are, the more rev chance.
  5. I've played on another server with Mappel a while back, and he was just as excellent a player then as he is today - his characters grow and react to IC events and everything has a consequence, which makes interacting with Kukarumo very, very interesting. He's a dynamic character who has clearly been through a lot and his experience shows. Mappel as a player is always fun and helpful to be around, their knowledge of game mechanics is very solid and their ability to be a pleasant player interested in making other people's rounds enjoyable is something I see fit for a player seeking a head role. +1
  6. i heckin love chapman he's robust, down to earth, and actually a really good guy if you're not an ass even then he's really alright
  7. needs more jojo
  8. I really just wanna ask real quick: is our issue with greytide really that bad? I hardly ever see a crapload of assistants just causing a mess for no reason. For departments like Sec, Med, Research and Cargo, a desk-person might be great, but we honestly shouldn't remove assistants in general if we want to fit something like that in. Med and Cargo need people manning the desk the most, but generally Medical has that covered well enough and Cargo's typically on call for orders if they're away from the desk, anyway. Besides, if we remove assistant, but keep visitor, you can guess what people who want to greytide will do. Removing assistants isn't the answer to our problem, whatever that problem apparently is.
  9. I'm not an Unathi buff, to be honest. However, as a character in general, I love getting chances to interact with Ashelkr. She's got a lot of depth, and the imperfect Ceti Basic adds a lot to conversation. 10/10 I really feel like they're a believable product of Unathi culture, even from what little I do understand about it.
  10. I honestly do feel like the air does somehow gradually leak out. I go QM a lot and telling me that every 1/4 rounds someone is forcing an airlock is hard to believe, especially when there's none of the typical signs of an airlock being forced. Mining, as it is right now, is for whatever reason annoying enough as it is. Literally every single day I'm dealing with a guy who fell, died, and wouldn't clone because they were like "yeah screw this." I get it's supposed to be a hard gig, but it's to the point where it breaks my idea of canon: sure, the meme being "NT DON'T CARE BOUT WORKERS" is a solid one, but cloning and/or retraining new miners can't be cheaper than some basic fixes that nearly every other department already has for EVA. Mining is the whole reason everyone's on that rock, and a fix like this is a great place to start. This "airlocks are broken" thing is no fun to deal with, especially when it means the extra time it takes to rescue the two guys who fell has them logging off.
  11. BRAINOS / Preston Prestoff here. A few things: 1. I agree that this got way out of hand. I did pull Tombstone aside and even tried to ICly tell him how saying stuff quite that far over the line is not okay. I know Preston threw in the corny one-liner about the cuffs, and that's about as far as I ever let him go, mostly just trying to get facepalms or reactions like that. 2. Looking back on it, I'm definitely guilty of some seriously enabling behavior when it comes to a few things: - 2a: I should've probably ahelped or something as soon as Tombstone said the "nude holodeck" thing. - 2b: Instead of saying any more than "Woah, man," I just kinda stood there and emoted chuckling or snickering. - 2c: Trying to show them an example of "how to say something stupid and get away with it" probably wasn't the best course of action. 3. Typically I hold myself to a way higher standard than this, and even participating in a shit-show like that definitely wasn't the best course of action. Prestoff wasn't arrested for anything that happened there, and it was definitely Tombstone who was saying these things. However, I definitely can see how just because I didn't throw in a line about a ballsack doesn't get me off the hook - I feel like in a way I definitely encouraged that behavior when I should've been putting a foot down or at least getting the hell outta there. 4. I am tremendously sorry that I did encourage that behavior out of Tombstone and threw in my two cents with no regard to the server's reputation or the comfort of anyone involved. This server is, by far, the favorite one I've been on and I've certainly invested a lot of time here. I haven't found any other place with such a pleasant community or staff, and I do feel terrible that the screenshot there is all some people will see in regards to how Tombstone or I represent players on this server. 5. In the past, I've seen the admins and staff here exercise very fair judgement and issue very understandable punishments. I won't argue with their decision in regards to this. If there is anything I can do to assist in the resolution of this complaint, please contact me and let me know.
  12. I'm actually not a huge fan of yanking out the comb's pre-generated text. Preston Prestoff will often use the comb to punctuate over-the-top statements about how great he is, pick-up lines, or any other opportunity where "incredible style" would give him an advantage. He's used it before first-thing when running into antags or authority figures and it has actually wound up saving his life (maybe even his job) a few times. I like it as a niche item that only fits a few certain characters.
  13. Until recently, I've only roleplayed with Resilynn in a few fleeting interactions since our characters don't often run into each other. Buuuut after a few rounds - especially a few outstandingly well done antag rounds starring them, I feel very confident that they not only have a good grip on game mechanics, but on roleplay, as well, and has a very clear understanding of how to run departments well. Hearing some of Fernando's logic honestly makes me wish they were CMO more often than not and after working for them while they were quartermaster, I feel like leadership is a thing they're fit for. I +1 to this application.
  14. I'm in full support of this if it's rebalanced in this manner: 20 burn damage per shot until it gets over a threshold like 50 and begins to pierce the skin and muscle - after that, an equal amount of burn damage is applied to the organs inside that would equal to a greater amount than 20, perhaps back up to 40? My reasoning is that internal organs are NOT meant to handle damage like that and should be far more vulnerable. The major reason I support this change is this: As it stands now, if you narrowly escape an antag and survive several laser burns, all you need to do to fix yourself is just apply ointment. There's no excuse to see Medical after you've been shot with a laser gun. This would just about require surgery to mend, and that makes sense.
  15. If you mean SS13...no. IF you got it to work then good luck. Could you imagine trying to play SS13 on a tiny touch screen?
  16. Potential clients visit companies all the time to get shown around before they're expected to sign multi-billion dollar deals. College kids go on trips to visit places and shadow people. Lots of scenarios can be created within these limitations, scenarios that are way more believable than "lol no im not scheduled today just comin in for fun."
  17. Ah, thanks a ton! A lot of other servers go for a crewcicle sorta thing and that never sat right with me. Glad to know there's even more freedom than I initially thought. Thanks for the clarification!
  18. We're in restricted space and NanoTrasen likely does extreme scrubbing and searching before sending any kind of product to their station. That alone drives up the price of coffee to - well, still less than a Starbucks tall. So $3.50 isn't too bad. My question, and I'm surprised it's not covered here, is: Where are we off-shift? Some people go into cryo between shifts (wakes up from cryogenic revival) but what about everyone else? There has to be a separate dorms station near Central or something, and don't tell me everyone gets frozen at Central. That can't be cheap and it moots the entire point of having on-station cryo pods. For things like the IC social media in the forums here to work, our characters must have a life off-shift that's more than climbing in and out of a cryo pod. I'm guessing employees ship to basic dorms for assistants and janitors and other low level jobs for the length of their term, while anyone else who can afford to transport themselves out of the restricted space and into a space-condo should have the luxury of doing so. I've been reading over and over our lore and this major detail isn't addressed. Two answers don't make sense: - We get frozen This is, in my opinion, a lazy gloss-over that severely restricts RP and pushes the corporate dystopia setting into tryhard overdrive. - We live on the station Why house all the off-shift people into those tiny dorms? This would crowd the station and kill productivity - the station should be running 24/7. Both of those point me toward a dedicated housing station that most people shuttle back to after clocking out at Central. Go home, be human for a few hours, go back to Central, clock in, take the shuttle to your work station, the Aurora. What's everyone's thoughts?
