  1. even that isn't a reasonable 1:1 comparison considering this unathi had no clear malicious or murderous intent. a guy with a knife stabbing my dog, yeah. i'd expect to freeze up because what if he stabs me next? at best you could consider this a big guy about to accidentally step on your dog. you're gonna shove him but neither of you had any intention of harming the other, thus the chances of it escalating are pretty low. the unathi in this case is just doing what he does, munchin on goats. it's not like he was hostile, just hungry.
  2. i had a particularly great ling round where i'd run around and do shit like blink sideways, snap my neck 180 degrees to look at someone, lick my eyeball and count to six on one hand. even still, it could be made better with some sort of command to emote in bolded red text and play a squelching or crunching noise - after all, when you see that kind of shit for real, it would definitely grab your attention the same way bold red text would. give it a cooldown of about 10 seconds or so just to avoid spam, and that'd be great. another command to profusely bleed could give you instant brute on wherever you have selected (on yourself) and make that wound bleed. that'd be accompanied with a gross noise and bold red text as your flesh tears itself open and spills blood everywhere. of course you'd lose blood and disadvantage yourself, but fuck would it freak people out. overall i fully support ways to make changelings doing crazy, creepy shit more noticeable.
  3. he grabbed and pulled the unathi's hands away from his pet and pushed him onto a table. i don't think unathi have completely senseless food aggression, so if someone's doing something wrong after you're shouting at them, the next step is to get in between them and the thing so you can repeat yourself clearer. it's not as if kevin was ever putting himself in direct, clear danger of being eaten himself. the "fully armed terrifying unathi" doesn't apply when the unathi isn't even a dangerous, hostile or unpredictable person. they're a dude unwittingly doing a thing they're not supposed to. you're allowed to pull someone off of eating your lunch, and you should definitely be allowed to pul someone off of eating your pet. no matter how scary or heavily armed they appear, you shouldn't expect any civilized person to turn those weapons onto you because you dared touch them when they're doing something they shouldn't. some context re: it's Kevin's pet: as natiform said, kev had a pet spider that got out of his jar, grew into a big one, and was killed by sec. kev was down in the dumps. so we gave him a goat and told him not to take it out of the crate so it wouldn't also grow ten times its size and get killed by sec. kev saw that goat as a gesture of kindness from human crew, as a fascinating, exotic earth animal, and as a pet. he even named the goat. it was the one thing that saved poor kev from having an exceptionally bad day until it was made infinitely worse when he sees someone tear open its crate and start biting it. the only way this becomes "local skrell puts themselves in mortal danger against a giant dragon to save a goat" is if we also imply that unathi are barbaric savages who go into frenzied bloodlusts any time they eat. edit: i must also announce this is my last forum post, for i have achieved my goal. 69 posts. nice
  4. some old ass dude saves his dog from a 300 pound bear: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/05/02/chihuahua-owner-punches-bear-to-save-his-beloved-dog/ same here, dude squares up with a bear to save his dog https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2018/10/30/Florida-man-kicks-bear-to-rescue-small-dog/1761540916280/ another 75-year-old florida man fights a fucking alligator to save a dog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsjcjHs9vCg woman lifts a car off her dad: https://abcnews.go.com/US/superhero-woman-lifts-car-off-dad/story?id=16907591 dude lifts a car off of a 6-year old girl: https://www.kansas.com/news/local/article1018475.html dude literally runs into a burning building to save his dog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlv_atjHywc okay, so why am i posting all of these? i'm kind of annoyed with the constant, you have to freeze up and die every time attitude pushed around here. yeah, i get it, fear RP is important, but it needs to have build-up and tension. if you're in a do or die situation, though? sometimes you pick do, even though you know better. it's entirely unrealistic to expect someone to freeze up 100% of the time if the situation suddenly pops up like that. yeah, skrells are small and not that ripped, but neither are 75 year old men, and bears are fucking terrifying. cars are heavy as hell and luxury SUV's can weigh over literally 5,000 pounds. that shit doesn't stop real people from saving their pets or children. are these cases rare and newsworthy? yes. are they impossible or unbelievable as we're making it out to be? no. also, it's important to note: this unathi is a sentient and intelligent crew member who can listen to reason. it's not like kevin was literally saying "throw hands bitch," he was trying to stop him. it's not like he was fighting a pissed off, mindless bear or something. saying that kevin fearlessly stood toe to toe against the unathi is completely wrong. he saw them doing something and physically interrupted them, yeah, but i've got proof people can literally just do that shit. are we saying that unathi have food aggression and getting near them when they eat isn't reasonable fear rp? to be entirely clear: kevin did not 'pick a fight' with a 7-foot-tall unathi wearing a breacher chassis. he stood in the way of a perfectly sane (albeit hangry) one. there was physical contact, yeah, but it was no fight. i have a major problem with the idea that what kevin did was entirely unbelievably impossible. ____________________________________________________ about the goat: preston and natalie gave kevin that goat from the warehouse and kevin was carrying it around the whole shift; it kinda was kevin's goat. the captain may have said otherwise, yeah, and we didn't respond to inquiries of 'can i eat a goat?' as we were preoccupied, but it's not like kevin just ran up and decked an unathi square in the jaw for eating some random goat. i'm pretty sure the unathi did wind up eating the wrong goat, but i can't fault them for that considering it wasn't labeled and it was in the kitchen at the time. either way, we pro'lly should'a labeled it or something to make that more clear. i'm not gonna jump in anyone's way for talking about the goat-eating incident one way or another, but that thing about ''you need to freeze up and piss your pants at the sight of any breacher suits'' kind of really annoys me. yeah, i get it, i wouldn't pick a fight with one, and if a guy threatened me in one, yeah - then i'd piss my pants. but if a guy tries to take my lunchbox wearing one? you bet your ass i'd try and swipe my lunchbox back and say ''dude you can't have that.'' about the unathi fighting off sec: i saw them benny hilling up and down the hallway once or twice. that's about the extent of it. i don't think the unathi got physical with anyone but the goat.

    Steak Resprite

so i don't like how the steak looks in this game. it's terrible. it's bad. it looks...orange? so i resprited it. along with this resprite, i propose: steak fills you up way more. like, near, if not full, hunger. at least 3/4 hunger should be filled up. it's ridiculous that you can use a fork to finish a steak in two bites. like, are we serving 3 oz itty bitty bois? give us big ol slabs of meat that are actually filling. i can recover all of my hunger with a salad and carrot fries but not a fucking steak? like what the hell? also obvs i want it to look good. i went out to eat steak today and it was so goddamn good. i wanted to cry. i did, a little bit. it was literally the closest thing i've ever had to a religious experience and i am not kidding. the current steaks make steak look like...lazy chef cookin. like, i get it. we're so edgy and everything in space sucks and there's no such thing as fun or nice things. but really just like no? can we please just have tasty-ass nice steaks that look good like a real steak would? you fire up any ol slab of meat and i'll go pig wild on that shit guaranteed. there's no way the current steaks came from any kind of animal. like yuck????
  6. if this is liked, i'll get the colors scaled properly for in-game use and a .dmi posted here's what's goin' on with this sprite: - i tried to stay as faithful as possible to the original's silhouette so clothes/damage/etc isn't messed up - anything inside the silhouette was completely scrapped and redone. definition, shading, everything. it looks more like a human than a blow-up doll, at least to me. - the hey arnold pixels at the side of each head were shaved off - this shouldn't break any hair or helmets, but if it does, let me know what breaks and i'll fix that, too. suddenly the head is more...human-looking. - the colors can easily be tweaked, but i went with a redder hue and way less saturation. i thiiiink our sprites are whitescaled anyway, though. - i'm not 100% satisfied with it, but it's the best i can do given the already broken and malformed silhouette we're all constrained to. - originally i had the muscle tone cranked all the way up. i'm not opposed to making multiple human forms with different body types, stocky, lean, beefy, etc. - this current body type at least fits the typical average from most people's flavor text: they're clearly fit, and either work out or have a physically demanding job, but they're not hulking walls of muscle and veins.
  7. i've always been interested in seeing this lore get explored some, ever since i saw another unathi alchemist, so yes please!
  8. i bounce for a few months and i come back to this and...i just want to point a few things out. 1. what do ninjas do? they murder. they sabotage. they steal. they're stealthy. note the murder part. that's kind of crucial to their identity. 2. when do ninjas strike? when their target is vulnerable. a huge reason i got bored for as long as i did is this: we're asking antags to trade off believability for the sake of rp. a mustache-twirling antag that gives me a million winks and nudges before leading up to a botched kill might scare my character but it provides no tension or entertainment to me. the whole point of antags is to create conflict for the sake of entertainment. going through the motions of fear rp when i know they can't kill me or they'll get bwoinked is not entertaining. we need to chill tf out about dying in a round because that shit happens and if it's believable, it makes a better story. that's a sacrifice i wish more people would start making. and what's really getting on my nerves here is this: resi did plenty of mustache-twirling. there was build-up here. can anyone seriously argue that if someone is the target of a skilled and invisible assassin, that they wouldn't be attacked during literally the most ideal opportunity: surgery? yeah, they were defenseless but... that's...kind of the point? they could have gone without anesthetics, or a million other things, they did put themselves into that position knowing they're being chased by what we need to start thinking of as a lethal, dangerous assassin. in what world is it believable for someone to say, "yeah, this teleporting invisible guy with an electric sword for an arm is chasing me, but just put me under, doc"? any problem with antags that murder targets when they put themselves into comically vulnerable positions should be reconsidered or directed toward the gamemode itself. it's not like harper was afk or forced to loudly declare, "medical, i need surgery." i wouldn't have posted but i'm really fucking passionate about ninjas. they're the coolest shit. ninjas in space are even cooler. ninjas in space that are merciless death machines that could be watching you, waiting to strike fucking terrify me. the best ninja rounds i've ever had have ended with me or my friends dying terrible, silent deaths. it made a believable story to tell where characters we're attached to still ultimately fail in the end because at the end of the day they're just a fucking janitor and the ninja is a goddamn ninja.
  9. no bias here, but still a +1. resilynn has several examples of excellent writing and is more than knowledgeable enough about the subjects involved in writing lore to make it not only believable, but interesting. there has been talk in the community about how Skrell aren't "interesting enough" and nobody wants to play them. i've got faith resilynn could help tremendously with that, as they have yet to write anything that failed to entertain or interest me. as a potential member of the team, resilynn is creative, friendly, has a wealth of patience, and is passionate about contributing what they can. i support the heck out of this.
  10. the more i think about it, the more reasonable this is. +1
  11. errone keeps sayin "PRECEDENTSSSSSSSS" like these apps aren't considered and processed on a case by case basis with thought put into the player, their character and the specific item they're requesting smh
  12. this is my main concern and why I said it would probably need to be accompanied with a nerf edit: I have an idea for it. You can pick what you turn them into, but each one is temporary and they will revert to their original form after some time. The more dangerous the selected mob, the less time they spend as they mob. That way 1. You can pick what to turn them into, and 2. they aren't permanently removed from the round (I consider being turned into a parrot being removed from the round). as someone who was turned into a parrot and nearly removed from the round if it weren't for one other player willing to put up with a screaming parrot on the verge of a meltdown, yes. i wholeheartedly agree. as it is right now it's worse than killing someone because there is *no* way to fix getting hit by the staff right now. so please, add a revert after some time and a cooldown on its use.
  13. i support this 110% especially considering how this actually follows a certain story arc for vedai, i absolutely adore this hungry skrell and how they went out and got a fancy fork one day after getting like ten thousand credits garfield skrell for the fucking win though
  14. i absolutely love michael lee. his eager-to-help attitude gets him into just the right amount of trouble and he has a great sense of when too far is too far. interacting with him in passing is a treat. overall, solid character, would invite to see my warehouse
  15. i disagree. the code changes for this to be a thing are: 1. very minor 2. not the focus of the application. on the thought of 'anyone' getting a pet, bear in mind killinski isn't just anyone, they are a head of staff, and trusted with the most important department on the aurora most shifts. i'm sure ICly it wouldn't be a stretch for them to bring their dog on some shifts. OOCly also remember drago is whitelisted for command roles and is server staff. the real precedents here are that drago has proven to be trustworthy and distinguished enough to be awarded privileges and responsibilities here. if they can be trusted to handle that, then surely they won't abuse a personal pet and it won't lead to pet spam where everyone has one.
  16. 10/10 would pet. i'm always a huge fan of these sorts of things that are tangible embodiments of leverage for antags, and this could really give killinski a chance to keep developing as a character, especially in situations where the dog could be in danger. as stress relief for killinski, too, this would be interesting to see. plus the behavior is cute. pet a dog and it licks you? literally actually too cute. i'd love to see this, especially on the occasion she shows up as a visitor! +1 from me
  17. a million of times this. the raiders had pretty much completely taken over the station. no help was on the way and we had no hope of leaving soon. it's not unreasonable 1.) make any of these tools, 2.) to use whatever tool you have in your hand to try and stop someone if you're cornered. about not missing: this is also not unreasonable and i am very firm on this. i'll explain: most encounters on this station take place as near as six feet away and sometimes up to eighteen feet away. 1-3 tiles is that far. unless two people are in an open hall, you're rarely going to have more distance than that between you and your attacker. even with no firearms training, just about anyone can hit a 7' tall, 3' wide target from that distance just by pointing and squeezing a trigger mechanism, especially when said target is advancing closer. on top of that, the plasma cutter emits a visible projectile, effectively a tracer. without even thinking, you'd be able to adjust your aim because you're literally seeing exactly where you're hitting. at that point it's like using a laser pointer. as i'm typing this, i'm six feet from a restroom door and i could chuck my shoe at it and hit it 10/10 times guaranteed. if i had a pointy shooty gun i could hit it with my eyes closed.
  18. +1 for doxx and +1 for beatrix. doxx is legit solid af and displays not only the mechanical proficiency to carry out the tasks associated with big roles like command, but also the roleplaying chops to use that to work in the interest of the story, not just their character. they don't powergame, which is one major concern for any head whitelist app. where i wager most of my +1 here is doxx's incredible ability to portray believable, engaging characters with depth and detail, and i trust that putting them in a command role would really allow them to stretch their wings and carry along the story of each round. This post has been stamped with the Quartermaster's stamp.
  19. i hate how often good gimmicks get shut down because "wouldn't this be on the news?" let the ai put it on the news pls +1
  20. fallen ninja memes are overrated. +1 a hundred times
  21. +1. reactive roles aren't a bad thing. all of the responsibilities this job has are currently only covered by grey areas and handed off to whoever mechanically can do it and isn't busy. that's not okay. adding this role would finally have someone dedicated to doing the role and can offer plenty of neat character ideas for who'd pick a job like that. adding jobs when there is actual shit to do or simple rp potential is not a bad thing, and this is literally both.
  22. i noticed engineering has shutters to stop people from crawling under the flaps. why does cargo not have this?
  23. 100% +1 here. FR's arpee has always been solid and they have tons of experience playing other alien races. I have no doubt they'll do this very well.
  24. as much as i support this, i also want this to go for seven pages, so i'm going to argue against it: 1. this will completely break raiders. they now have 3 people to fight if they take cargo. 2. this will make ling round way too hectic. i already can't tell two cargo techs apart. 3. this will put way too much strain on medical. 3 disposals jumpers to patch up??? 4. this will effectively make qm's useless as now they can be outrobusted by six arms 5. this will kill the hop position 6. this will make engine setup nearly impossible because of the extra power load on the department 7. the spare locker and gear is intended to be a spare, because a cargo tech will always cryo with all of their gear
