  1. OP has allegedly left the server and this has been left to sit for over a month. Unless another staff member wants to investigate and revisit this issue, this should probably be moved to the archive sometime in the near future.
  2. You've misinterpreted my words and my intent. The rule regarding IC in OOC is in place to prevent people who are upset about how things didn't turn out their way from spoiling the outcome of the round to other people and letting them know of antagonists, who got killed, who did what that was right/wrong or whatever. Just don't do it. It is not a hard precedent to follow. If you're going to say something that relates to the round and in turn breaks the rule about IC in OOC, why do it? OOC is not the place to discuss such things, especially when the round is still ongoing. The players aren't going to know anything for absolute certain about the rules and nor do they have any influence in enforcing the rules beyond reporting things to the people who actually do it, so there's no point in asking their opinion in OOC, the administration team does know how to do that and is given that power, that is why we're here. What part of what I said about the ruling don't you understand? I did not have to ask you anything. I was about ready to go offline after having observed a good portion of the round, and I checked discord just to see you ICing in OOC again after already being warned a few hours prior. The first one should've given you a hint to stop ICing in OOC. I knew immediately right off the bat you were ICing in OOC because it was relating to a round I was watching intently. There's no excuse for what you did at 11AM this morning, you got a strike for that. The second strike was for ICing in OOC again. And then when I told you to stop after the second strike, you decided to keep going and reveal more details about the round, which earned you a 2 day ban from the discord.
  3. Three seconds is excessive for a hypospray proc. That makes it effectively no better than a syringe.
  4. The discord ban will wear off later this evening. You may rejoin the discord when it wears off around 5PM EST. In case I wasn't clear the first time, though... If at any point in time you feel like; - discussing any moments in OOC or discord that happened in an ongoing round: don't. - complaining in OOC or discord about staff action that wasn't taken on someone who made an honest mistake in an ongoing round: don't. - discussing the current antagonists and their current doings in an ongoing round: don't. You may NOT discuss anything pertaining to the current round in terms of relevance, excuses such as hypotheticals and etc will not be accepted. Adminhelp for specific questions, and if nothing comes of it, drop it, and get over it. I will not make a point of disciplining people who make IC mistakes such as opening firelocks, that is up to security to be dealing with. Funny enough in that round, you were playing as security and rather than making the attempt to detain them and move the person you were complaining about opening a firelock into a depressurized area, you instead adminhelped to complain about him and you insisted I talk to him. Come on. You have a baton. Deal with him. I will make a point of dropping the hammer on people who misuse discord to talk about the current round. Discord is an OOC outlet as well, especially as it is the official Aurora discord. Anything to be discussed regarding the current round, had better stay in IC. Anything else goes in OOC, for obvious reasons. We aren't babysitters for IC stuff, and we shouldn't be called upon for really minor cases like that. Stuff like, "Man opens firelock into depressurized area, security adminhelps to whine about it" is awful context for us to be talking to people for. What I'm not able to get over is that you still broke the rule on IC in OOC and you were handed a discord ban for it, especially after the two warnings preceding the ban should've told you, "Okay, maybe I should stop."
  5. I'll be taking the reins of this complaint. I'll be asking administrators for the relevant logs for context. Expect a decision in a couple days.
  6. I'm inclined to agree with Nursie, despite having a different view on it in the past, we're perfectably able to give chucklefucks or self-proclaimed insane characters the boot if it becomes an issue. But otherwise from a gameplay perspective, straitjackets do what sedating-deathchems are supposed to do, in that they completely disable a person's ability to resist, but straitjackets have the important caveat that it's a permanent solution to someone breaking out of cuffs or overriding stuns, rather than a temporary one that chemicals are. Chemicals, especially the right ones to be effective enough to be a sedative, require you to use a lot of chemistry resources just to dope someone or multiple people. And it wears off after a significant time, or it kills a person. Straitjackets do not require much effort beyond stun, cuff and then put a straitjacket on someone. It's a good thing there are only two on the map and no more can be spawned, but... Straitjackets completely nullify any sense of risk and they're too powerful despite being a non-harmful method of paralyzing someone. Nothing pisses a player off more than being restrained with an article of clothing that has no counterplay to deal with as soon as it's put on. It's toxic game design and nobody deserves to be taken out of the round, in spite of what certain people might think. They don't need to be nerfed, however, as mentioned. They should be harder to get out of because it's a straitjacket, but five to six minutes as a timer would not hurt.

  9. In a game filled with blood cultists, space wizards and apparently meme museums being canonized by the lore team, I'm not sure why people are so adamant on complaining on whether this is too zany or whatever. It fits within the setting, especially what with the present fear about emergent synthetic intelligence. If this affects vending machines and makes them aware of their surroundings and violent towards humanoid beings then it's all for the better, rather than for the worst. It also supplies some consequence for what happens when you purposefully ignore an event. Such could be applied to all of the random events that exist but don't have inherent consequences, but this will do by itself for now. I like it, it's interesting and it's engaging in its own way. One more thing to blame incompetent engineers on, just for added future bantering and hilarity.
  10. I changed my mind, and here's what I think. You get one more chance and then after that it's yet another long and arduous appeal cycle. You get the opportunity to improve, if you miss the mark then business carries on as usual without you. If you do hit the mark, then there's nothing to worry about and you'll be welcome on the server again. I had my hiatus before and it gave me enough insight on what should be done right and what shouldn't be done. We'll consider this four month period from you as your chance to improve from your rather forced-hiatus. We'll see how it works out.
  11. One of the largest issues coming from Xander in relation to attitude was also how they propped themselves onto a higher pedestal than they actually maintained and used that to give himself a larger voice than he really had. This led to rather amazing discussions, and issues being raised over their displayed behavior of a superiority complex. He was asked to reform this attitude. More than once, no less than three times to my own memory. "At least he's not LoneTophat" doesn't make Xander forgivable or redeemable. Xander would regularly get frustrated at other community members and server-staff members and launch tirades of verbal attacks and ill-wishing on both if they rubbed Xander the wrong way. He wouldn't get apologetic until he was actually punished for wrongdoing. The former is most definitely indicative of more malicious intent. There is rarely any good reason to be calling other community members awful names and telling them they're awful people. Were this someone that had a one-off OOC explosion that was mildly dramatic at worst, I'd support lenience. The current staff MO is something to uphold in every second-chance-esque situation. Not in this case, because Xander has had his second, third, fourth and so on chances. The current permanent ban that was placed was the absolute last resort.
  12. I'm going to put it into simple terms. You insisted a long while ago that you'd leave the server either indefinitely or forever. Coupled with your increasingly problematic, belligerent and immature attitude that was beginning to really piss every sapient being that plays on this server, the server staff were inclined to agree and took you up on the promise you made. You made it clear to the server pop after the permaban that you weren't returning. You return now to beg forgiveness, tell everyone that you've missed them oh so much, and that you take back all of the insults you've made. Haven't we been here before? This circuit is extremely familiar, not because I deal with this spiel on a daily basis but this kind of round-about seems rather characteristic when coming from this particular basis. From you. I think one of the more defining issues being present here is that I don't need to put a massive effort in informing other people what my opinion is of you, because I can easily point them at the things you've said and done for them to generate their own silent impression. My impression is that you've done so much over a large period of time, broken enough promises you were supposed to keep and in spite of that, kept on being a passive-aggressive bastard to other people who didn't earn that displayed ire, in that you really don't quite deserve another reprieve. Because that'd be a mistake on our end, as well as another waste of time and moral resources on our end. This is my professional opinion, and just my own, as an individual that had long-term exposure to you and the results of your actions. I'll stand by whatever the administrators do in this case but I'd strongly advise against giving you yet another chance you will waste.
  13. These two things you've said sound incredibly out of context, so unless you can produce the exact context of who said that, when, and why, that's not going to be addressed here. So. Okay, allow me to tell you folks how this usually works. Someone does a thing in-game. Someone reports it through an adminhelp. Either we take care of it and resolve it oocly and ensure that whoever did a bad will avoid doing it again for the same reasons. Or, we tell the person who reported it that it was an IC issue and they will either A.) Have to deal with it for the rest of the round as it's an IC issue or B.) Take it up to the forums to dispute the decision and press for actual action such as a reprimand of the player or above. Someone missed a step in the production of this complaint. So don't be surprised if this is going to be dismissed as an IC issue right now, because that's pretty much what it is. It was an IC squabble over contraband that got a little out of hand, but not enough to warrant immediate administration intervention. Pocketing an EMP grenade and making a uranium knife to also pocket is a security issue. We are not going to ban people for making and pocketing knives. That is what security is for. Take your issues up with them, it is what people play security for, to deal with issues like that. We warn and/or ban people for going over the line in terms of roleplay, which I don't need to explain since it's pretty self-explanatory. In this case, intervention would barely constitute as necessary, especially considering the OP did not attempt to address the issue in an adminhelp beforehand. While against IC law, it does not go against any OOC roleplay standards to be engaging in mild (albeit not on the same level of maliciousness as an antag does) criminal activity and ignoring a few regulations. Much more scrutiny would be exercised if anything happened beyond the person getting arrested and whining about it. Everyone does it when it happens to them, so that's fine. People, or rather more specifically, their characters will learn what rules to start obeying if they want to keep their job. So yes. That sucks. Crux gets off for doing it in the long-term, but the general idea is that characters do not need to be punished for doing something perceivably wrong ICly to an immense extent that a complaint calls for immediate action upon them. Sucks even more that silicons can't (and shouldn't) try to perceive IC consequences through DO actions. But it is for good reason, as it makes sense. You're a synthetic. Not another petty humanoid personality who has a bone to pick with another humanoid personality whose e-peen threatens the sanctity of your own. Your character has bigger priorities than the drama of biologicals. Your laws in protecting them from hazards take priority. "Protecting someone from themselves", before anyone tries to rebut me on this point, is not a valid precedent to go after someone unless they're literally hurting themselves then and there. I assume you didn't have bigger problems in the round as an AI so that's generally how you occupied the general free amount of time you had. I wouldn't consider having a provocative and aggressive attitude both ICly and OOCly as smaller issues than a cargo tech who pocketed an EMP grenade of all things and shipped back the entire contents of the cargo warehouse (which is not even a bad thing at all, I've no idea why this is taboo to anyone, just because Nanako rolled antag items in there for antags to steal doesn't mean they're obligated to be there 24/7 throughout the entire round just for them, you snooze you lose) to CentComm. Just throwing it out there if you were confused as to why we're more hesitant to step into a situation that does not really mandate after-the-fact judgment. Cruz's behavior was petty, but amazingly enough there are just as equally petty people in real life. The worst part about fiction in writing is that unlike reality, fiction has to make sense. In this case their behavior was more or less justified. From their point of view they were pissed they got arrested over such a small thing despite having lied about it. Some people get pissed being caught in a lie. A lot of this hubbub could've been avoided if communication attempts were made to staff if this was that big of a problem to you. Because otherwise, I don't know what to tell you besides saying there is nothing we're willing to do for such a small issue that should have been handled in IC, and then let go upon the round ending.
  14. You folks need to adminhelp when a station-bound unit does this to you without being ordered to. Cyborgs are not permitted to go out of their way to put down people unless specifically instructed to or someone is actively endangering other crewmembers within the presence of a cyborg. Not to mention the willful overdosing. If someone knows what soporific does they should also know enough that chemicals can overdose people.
  15. Mercilessness on the end of certain antagonists is something we're capable of speaking to certain players about. A level of sensible restraint is required to even be an antagonist in the first place. Being an antagonist does not mean the rules on properly roleplaying a character no longer applies to them, it means they have a specific investment role in the round to do something to make the round more interesting. Their role and expectations to fulfill that role is only variably different than what we expect from crewmembers, in that their investment to avoid breaking laws does not apply to them and they can thus engage in more relaxed terms of being able to engage conflict compared to anyone else that would be held under tighter scrutiny. Wantonly murdering without bringing an engaging narrative as to why they are doing that to the table is not making the round interesting, the purpose of an antagonist is not to kill people. Murder is a byproduct of conflict, but not a necessary example of it.
  16. I don't understand why you made an OOC complaint over an IC issue, Munks. I mean. Really?
  17. I'm going to point out that any form of argumentative discourse that goes this way, whether posted by server staff or not, is not an acceptable level of grounds to judge a character complaint. The complaint is valid in its concerns regarding the minor issue as to how a Guwan is able to have such a popular following that their circle of white knights would probably beat the shit out of traditional Sinta critics. I empathize with the OP. It is extremely difficult to deal with characters that are supposed to be outcasts that have their own reinforced clique of white knights that would defend their pet disenfranchised minority character to the death, from an Unathi perspective. Not all more traditional Unathi need to engage this, however. Uwasv already sustains an incredible amount of shame by itself for being defended like this by humans. It would be appalling to any Unathi to see this for themselves, some would be enraged, others would be sad for how depressing it is for such a creature to fall so low in Unathi societal standards that the only friends they can make are aliens. That alone is disgrace enough. Unathi are supposed to ignore the existence of Guwan, however. To be casteless and clanless makes you less than an animal, and it is not worth the notice of a traditional higher-born Unathi. It sullies the reputation of true Sinta to be seen conversing with an outcast. Uwasv is fine, but the extremely aggressive clique surrounding Uwasv needs to learn to tone down how they defend their friends. It's not the fault of Sid that his friends are acting like white knights.
  18. This is a cupcake. It is composed of three parts, top to bottom, the frosting, the cake, and the aluminum film. Likewise, this topic is composed of a similar, albeit less eccentric, structure. The purpose of this topic is to better explain what the rationale of normal characters should be when roleplaying without entirely enforcing or barring specific mindsets beyond the basics of what every character should keep in mind and consider for roleplaying. We will start from the top. Risk Assessment Risk assessment is a fancy term to describe the rational analysis and critical thinking that goes on in a person's head when calculating the potential outcomes of a situation that has not yet happened or come to its resolution. This is better shortened down to the American catch-all of "weighing your options". The general idea is to come up with best-case scenario resolutions to problems without too many unintended consequences as a result of those resolutions to issues. This is at the top, because thinking over your options before approaching certain situations should always be the first step in roleplaying conflict. Dynamic roleplay is improved when characters take actions that make sense in their own heads and could be rationalized to make sense when explained to another person as part of their line of reasoning. If you cannot rationally explain to another person why you're going to do a certain thing without them being confused or completely juxtapositioned against your line of reasoning, you are likely not a person to be trusted with higher responsibility, and you will be told to avoid taking charge in certain situations as you could potentially cause more trouble than actually help situations. Being able to properly assess risky scenarios before going into them is the cream of the crop in properly roleplaying, as nothing makes the RP experience more immersive than being able to make your character think like a real person would and make responsible decisions as a real person would. Engagement of Conflict This refers to how a character deals with hands-on situations, with varying levels of intensity and inherent riskiness. These include anywhere between verbal or physical conflicts. A good man once said, "There is always a right way to do things." Such wisdom is immediately applicable in this circumstance. How you handle a conflict can make the difference between being a good roleplayer and a bad one. Ultimately, it boils down to what the circumstance is, the conditions as a result of the current situation, and what escalation has been used beforehand. Generally speaking, the optimal way to go about it without coming into trouble with staff through bwoinks is to match the direness of the situation with an equal amount of force (not just literally) that you know for certain would end the conflict in an efficient and ideal manner. Though things can go wrong, especially when an antagonist comes into play and has very different motives than the average crewmember does. This guide isn't for the antagonist, however. Ideally, most or all crewmembers fear death or extreme harm, and as such would want to avoid any resolution that would cause due harm to themselves or end their own life. It's important to approach any matter of danger with caution and seek to avoid it or overcome it. Some characters might not even like confrontation, so walking away would be the best option for them. Sometimes the best way to deal with conflict is to decide to not bother with it at all. For other characters, their jobs are intensively focused on resolving conflicts by overcoming or overpowering obstacles, and as such, sometimes it isn't in their best interest in terms of their job to ignore an issue. Some people might have friends or family on the line and will take greater risks to protect them. This is sensible and admirable in most cases, but often it is not ideal to rescue someone from a situation that they are not in any danger of being in, as it may inflate the problem and make the person perceptibly in trouble much worse off than they were. Engagement of conflict forms the basis of all roleplaying, direct confrontations or indirect ones carry over many concepts of interaction over to better make conflict complex and interesting to other players. Fear Roleplay This ties in with risk assessment, but is most notably involved with the more involved forms of conflict or potential conflict scenarios. Generally speaking, all characters have personal priorities. Their own needs generally come first before the needs of others, for they could not be of any help to another person if they were not situated with the tools or mindset to assist other people. The same observation comes into play when a character's life is at risk. A doctor would avoid front-line combat whenever possible, for if they were to come under great harm, they would not be able to assist other wounded people medically, and as such other people who become hurt have their lives be put more at risk due to the absence of a doctor who did not hold the preservation of their own life into greater account. Likewise, a dead security officer may as well not exist at all to defend the station from internal or external threats. It is important to try to stay alive. This is not to say you should disenfranchise the efforts of antagonists trying to kill you, if you feel your death would contribute to the round for other people better than it would contribute for you, then roleplaying having made a grave error in trying to escape or fight them is absolutely fine. For more critical job roles this is less acceptable, as their presence is required for the round to function most times. Heads of staff can die in certain situations and they will not be penalized or criticized for dying in certain situations that would be considered fair play. It's important to balance between being a good sport and respecting that your character would not want to die, excepting certain escalated circumstances that would permit suicide or other situations. Fear roleplay is necessary in order to shape the best case scenarios of conflict the way it is. It's important to understand there are consequences to every action. Take heed of it, or it could get you into trouble. Naturally, if ever you should doubt how you should be roleplaying a certain situation and your inherent fear to something, shoot an adminhelp and we can always provide advice. Can't speak for how helpful each individual staff member might be in relation to that, I personally like to get real specific on how many options a person has. If that fails, asking other players for advice such as on discord or on the forums always works.
  19. Works for me. It's more complex than just "it explodes ya dig", so I'm more than happy with it.
  20. "They're just rubber gloves", is not the point. It permits anyone with electronics knowledge to safely, without any physical consequence or bodily harm, find out how to break into areas they shouldn't be in because they know which wire does what on a certain set of airlocks. Having that knowledge as a non-engineer of what areas you could potentially break into already qualifies as suspicious conduct, and if it's that kind of scenario, security can and should arrest for it if the person doing it has bad intentions. Not all assistants are like that, though, and they can state they're an unofficial electrician so long as they stay out of trouble. Being able to prove intent, is of course, the important thing here.
  21. Anywhere between a small sentence and a near-paragraph, really, so you can ramble a ton as part of your invitation. The terms I listed in the OP were just to lay down what the bare minimum expectation is for an invite into a revolution/loyalist party-time. Confetti and all. If someone doesn't fulfill the minimum expectation of properly roleplaying in the sense of inviting someone to be a rev, either we pick it up or someone ahelps it, and we can go and tell a guy to try a little harder and they'd be set, best case scenario.
  22. Slash the current system where you merely only need to press a button to convert someone in your vicinity, and replace it with having to write a sentence (six characters minimum to allow for affirmative propositions after a significant bit of dialogue, i.e., "Do you agree?"). Also add the sentence used to convince someone to join both in immediate adminlogs and at the end of round reveal when the antagonists are revealed. This cuts any current issues with some people who don't understand the rev game mode and are spamming the convert verb without actually roleplaying with people to get them to join their cause, and hopefully deflate the issue altogether by requiring people to actually say a sentence or two to try and convert people to their side. In addition, if someone types out "asdsdadsffasdkjl", mods or admin staff watching the logs will be able to jump on people spouting nonsensical jibberish in order to lazily "convert" people. For the end of round, it's simply recorded for added fluff statistics people would be interested to see at the end of round to potentially see why people joined up with the revolution or the loyalists. Skull loves these ideas so this'll be clearly moved to projects within the hour. :^)
  23. We whitelist people with more than a couple neurons to their own credit. We cannot speak for random doctors who may not be as capable of saving someone as a whitelisted person who knows the ins and outs of their own department can. Command staff, normally, is immune to the pubbie curse due to head of staff roles being gated behind a whitelist.
  24. I may have given you too wide of a window, sorry, my week's been terrible. I'll lift the ban under these terms, regardless, I'm not gonna be that guy because I didn't keep my promises. If something similar happens again relating to the previous ban reason there may be less leeway granted.
