  1. Easy +1 just give him it lol I don't need to sing his praises any one visiting this page knows how good he'll do in the role
  2. Absolutely. Liaison is almost if not entirely a roleplay role, and the more people you have to interact with the better, given most of the people on station are usually busy or have no reason to interact with you for long. I think this would be a wonderful addition. +1
  3. From what I've been observing, Lily is definitely taking in the feedback she's getting, working very hard and succeeding in improving her Command play. She's doing an excellent job, and is showing that she really cares about the feedback she gets and utilizing it to be better in the role. I know I +1'd before the trial, but she's getting another +1 from me regardless.
  4. Best Necro officer, not to take away from most of the others, but I've interacted the most with Brett and she is just absolutely wonderful. A lovable, adorable dork who I want to hug, and one of my top 5 favorite officers ever, easily.
  5. I don't disagree that I didn't handle the tower defense round the best, but honestly I tried my best. Communication sucked, and I spent a lot of time writing incident reports because I'm stupid and multiple times have written like 2-3 paragraphs only for it to just not go on the paper because I hit ok while not having the pen in my active hand, so that wasted a LOT of my time that round. When I finally planned to go to the bar, the CMO was in the middle of getting jumped, so naturally I fled back to my office as I deemed it wasn't safe. Then, I had multiple people tell me they were coming for me, so I put on my suit and swiped for both ERT and Red while I still could. Nearly everything I did on that round was based on information that was given to me, and I should mention every single call I made, be it ERT, changing code, or evac was done with consulting the rest of Command. Also, I did make an announcement to stay away from the intruders. I made various announcements that round to that effect. The only reason I fought in the dock is because, let's be real, the situation was hell and chaos, and all I had at my disposal to combat it was an officer, a cadet, and a single Kataphract hopeful. When the unathi started talking about "That means I get to use this, I've been waiting to use this" and then took out a bomb that I couldn't see the make of, and my officer/cadet started shooting, I elected to help with my side arm. The unathi collapsed infront of me and I beat on him with the baton assuming that the situation was life or death, as I was cornered in the command section with multiple other antags present outside of red dock, which started even more fighting that I did not partake in. I should mention that attacking the unathi was ahelped and the admin involved did not think I did anything wrong after I explained my side of things. I will say that my communication skills in every other round I've played as Captain have been good, as told to me by multiple people, it was just the chaos of, remember, tower defense, as well as some mistakes that compounded the issue. Thank you for the feedback, I will work to better myself from it.
  6. Yeah, that was my bad. It was still in the early stages of playing the character and I didn't realize how much damage a G2's melee did. I was trying to keep the wiz down long enough for someone to come and secure him after I got emp'd and the other officer got turned to a statue, I didn't realize it would kill him so easily. It was also a bit of an IC thing of, in part because Brick was also blinded from the EMP, "oh god oh no I got emp'd survival instincts go start flailing wildly" but it was never my intention to kill him. In retrospect I should have gone for the leg but it all happened so fast.
  7. Shadow has always been a strong player, both mechanically and roleplay wise. I think everyone agrees he can handle playing an unathi just fine. He's been around more then long enough to have my confidence, +1
  8. BYOND key: Hepatica01 Character names: Klementine Kuznetsov, Zoya Kuznetsov, Jane Kanvers, Annika Richards, ISU-Brick, and Salvation. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 3-4 years, though on and off. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've noticed a lot of command dies out during the dead hours of the server. I think it'd be good for the server's health to get more people in Command given that, as far as I've seen, a lot of our Command regulars are dwindling away from the roles. That, and I have confidence that I can play the part of Command well enough to drive rounds forward and further RP. Why did you come to Aurora?: Before Aurora I had played SS13 very, very briefly on other random servers, and while it was enjoyable getting up to some shenanigans, I wanted more roleplay focused and less fast paced (god the constant running gave me a headache) game play. After eyeballing the server list, I picked out Aurora as it was much smaller at the time and I figured it'd be easier to get into as a result, and I never turned back. To date, I've only played on one other server one single time since joining Aurora, and did not like it. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes I am, many times in fact over the course of the last few years that I've been trying to work up the nerve (and mechanical ability) to play these roles. Whoever made the Job Guides page with a short summary of each role is hilarious and a genius. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I have received a total of three warning, one of which was a serious warning. However, the serious warning was from my literal first round coming into Aurora after leaving LRP servers and it was for beating my friend, who I was playing with at the time, to death after the round ended, because I didn't like reading rules back then. The two lesser warnings were from around the same time when I chased after an antag and attacked him with a circular saw, which I definitely shouldn't have done, and one four months ago that I still maintain was fine IC, however I do also understand and accept why I was given the warning over it. Long story short: Revolutionaries were doing a cult gimmick, they were sacrificing someone in the chapel and being very loud about it over the radio, this someone was a friend of my characters as well as the others I was with, we were all off duty sec visitors, so we showed up to find out what was going on, saw them getting sacrificed, and went in to try to help. Cult backed off, I grabbed the person and they ran out, then I got attacked so we all kicked the hell out of them and stomped their gimmick at about 1:30-1:45. My defense is, security was apart of the antags, all except the Warden who only showed up after it was all over. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is a means to live out stories and experience life in a way you probably will never be able to experience in real life. It exists to give us, not only an escape from reality, but a way to be someone we want to be and explore their life, story, and emotions throughout the course of the time we play them. I believe roleplay should, first and foremost, be about making enjoyable and memorable experiences with other people, all the while developing your character, even minorly, in the process. However, you don't always need others to further roleplay. I've seen plenty of instances in SS13 where people roleplay and create a story all on their own, which at times will naturally lead to others getting involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Well obviously it differs from role to role, with each Head having their own specific goal for the round. However, as far as roleplay goes, I believe it's a Head of Staff's duty to push forward roleplay for the people in their department, whether it be something as simple as allowing them to go on break, to pairing people up with one another to tackle a problem their department is currently facing, to offering a friendly (or otherwise) helping hand to someone in their department who might need it. From what I've seen, some people enjoy interacting with Command, and I think it's good when Command players get out of their officer and roleplay with people regardless of that persons role. From a mechanical/game perspective, I believe it is a Head of Staff's duty to ensure a round progresses as naturally as it can, tackling whatever obstacles they come across in a way that gives some leeway to both sides without just outright allowing antags to walk all over you (unless it makes sense in that situation). What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A player with this whitelist has access to some of if not the most important roles on the station, both in universe wise and OOC. I believe that players with this whitelist are meant to be an example of what good roleplay and good behavior OOC can get you. If a new player joins the server and they see someone with a command whitelist bullying other people OOC or treat those who work under them IC horribly, it'll naturally drive that person away from, at best, that department, or at worst, the server entirely. People with Command whitelists should be drawing people in to their department through the use of great, engaging roleplay and excellent mechanical knowledge, not driving them away. If a multitude of people look at someone in Command and say "Well I'm not playing this department this round", they probably shouldn't have their whitelist. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? My planned Research Director, Annika Richards, doesn't have much of a stake in the current events of Tau ceti, mainly due in part to her Sol citizenship, and the fact that her only connection to Tau ceti is working on the Aurora. Despite this however, given what has happened recently on Aurora, she's grown weary of Tajarans affiliated with either the NKA or the DPRA, fearful of another repeat of the shuttle landing in the center of the station, bringing with it a little warzone to Aurora. She never had much stake in Tajaran politics, given it's never been relevant to her in the slightest before now, however now that so much has happened on the Aurora in regards to it, she has been most invested in Tajaran politics, if only as a means to keep herself safe. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Research Director and Head of Personnel, perhaps Captain at times. I am very familiar with Science as a whole and believe I would make a good RD, a role I find is very often left wide open, even when the rest of command is filled. Head of Personnel, similarly, seems like a very fun role for RP that I often don't see anyone filling, and finally Captain, with at least a few other command staff present, seems like it would be fun for coordinating efforts and facilitating RP throughout the entire station when possible. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Annika Richards - Research Director Toterus - Research Director Siobhan Verity - Captain Victoria - Head of Personnel Anastasia Komarova - Necropolis Liaison Feng - Zeng-Hu Liaison How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I believe I am an above average roleplayer on most days, but I put my best efforts more often then not into making believable and enjoyable RP for anyone I interact with. I try to RP with as many people as I'm able too, that want to RP with me as well. Depending on the character, I'll interact with just about anyone that makes sense for my character to interact, because only through RPing with as many people as possible can I get any better at roleplaying. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course, absolutely. If I have done something to deserve it being stripped, then I accept that completely. The admins giveth, the admins can taketh away. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I have yes! Infact, due to my memory issues, I often reread wiki pages multiple times on separate occasions, and usually keep it open for whatever role I'm playing regardless of my familiarity, just in case! Extra notes: If accepted, I very much look forward to proving myself as an able member of Command!
  9. +1, great roleplayer, great person, very well deserving of the whitelist. I'm sure they'll do great in any command position they chose to go for I'm sure, and I agree with everything that's been said about them in this thread.
  10. I would not at all be against removing RnD, but I also have no alternative for it's replacement, if one was needed. Not sure if one really IS needed but idk, I also don't minmax power game lol, so some one might be able to abuse it real bad.
  11. If anything, this frees most scientists up to do what they actually want to do instead of having to slog through RnD every single shift.
  12. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Robotics has been my secondary main for years, always has been and always will be. It's fun, it's great, UNTIL no one (competent) is in RnD or the same for Mining. It is the only job with this heavy of a restriction and I would say 50% of the time I'm in robotics I sit there doing nothing because of those very reasons. Please. I would literally give money to fund this idea if I wasn't broke. Also please add a bathroom to science. I know they have next to no actual purpose, but it's a research station. Engineering, security, and medical have bathrooms (hell medical even gets a dorm room! Unfair!), given that the main focus of the station outside of mining phoron is science, it would make sense to have science be the most decked out department, and that their every need would be sought too. At least that's what I think. Obviously it's not any REAL concern, just think it would make sense ICly. +1 Also PLEASE make an updated guide for RnD if you expect people who have never had a reason to do RnD to suddenly do RnD. The guides on the wiki are outdated and bad.
  13. I do understand, yes. I'm fine with this being thrown out in that regard, I wasn't aware there was a difference. Sorry. @ReadThisNamePlz
  14. My goal wasn't to completely shut down the antag, I had no intention of acting further after the magic missle, and I assumed the Ninja would be able to get up and teleport or stealth away to continue RP elsewhere. I had no idea that the wizard was going to do what he did, and I will say that it was pretty cheap. While I won't deny that what I did shut down the hostage situation, I only did so with the IC understanding that this Ninja had been lethal and hostile towards security, which it even mentioned over radio that it had been non lethal to security and would no longer be so, so from an IC perspective it was thought that this was only being down to continue harm, which it was my character's goal, at the time, as a character who is very staunchly against harm coming to others, to prevent. I didn't even know there was Ninja's in the round before I was given the powers, they were really dropped right in my lap through RP by the Wizard, as the Wizard had specifically come to seek my character out for RP reasons. My intentions of getting the powers IC was "I can use this to help the Trinary Perfection church and keep my people safe", and not at all to be valid hunty. I do feel bad the way it turned out, I even apologized in AOOC too as it was not my intention to shut things down completely. I knew they wouldn't be able to cuff him due to the hardsuit, so I was very confident that he'd be able to escape and instead continue things at another time.
  15. BYOND Key: Hepatica01 Staff BYOND Key: NurseKitty Game ID: b6o-doF7 Reason for complaint: I believe I was unfairly given a warning for something that is done incredibly often in a slightly different, if not MORE dangerous manner and is rarely if ever punished, because it makes no sense to punish it. What happened was: I was in a round of Ninja and Wizard. I had been made an apprentice early on, along with others. My character, Salvation, is a missionary of the Trinary Perfection, and as such cares deeply for the synthetics. She often goes out of her way to ensure security synthetics are alright in the event that they are faced with a serious threat. While she was speaking with Pulsar, a security officer IPC, a call came in that the Head of Security had been taken hostage by the Ninja. The two went to the location, at the main elevators, near the front of the brig, and Salvation was told by Pulsar to loop around and cover the flank. Salvation went around after calling for the Wizard to come by as well, and got behind them. At this point, my character had learned magic missile, which given she had to learn it from the book instead of it just being a staff which she might not know what they do exactly, it could be assumed that Salvation would know exactly what the spell did and it's effectiveness. So, knowing it would be a near instant knock down on the Commander and the Ninja, Salvation yelled out that she would defeat this evil man, at which point they turned to look at her, and she unleashed the magic missile, instantly knocking the two down before anyone had a chance to react. After the two were knocked to the ground, the main Wizard walked up and turned the Ninja into a dog, completely stripping him of all his items. Once this happened, I was contacted by Nursie in the form of an ahelp to say that what I did was wrong, and I was promptly given a warning as a result. Here is my issue with this ruling: An uncountable amount of times, both IC and in real life, have flashbangs been utilized in hostage situations to allow Security to rush in and deal with the threat while keeping the safety of the hostages in mind. If anything, flashbanging that situation would have been more deadly due to the unadjustable timer on a flashbang IC, which would give time for the hostage taker to react. This is not the case with magic missile, you have MAYBE half a second to react as it comes out before it floors you. It was a completely safe action to take which resulted in the safety of the Commander. My idea was that without further acting on the Ninja, he would be able to do whatever afterwards, and as I had made no collaboration with the main Wizard on their act of polymorphing them into a corgi, I had no idea that was going to happen. Just as well, the person who turned them into a corgi didn't get so much as a bwoink, but I got a warning out of it, which I would like removed from my account. I dispusted with Nursie what I said above, to which she replied "then i can assure you that we've absolutely contacted people over it. regardless, your actions were not dissimilar, and that's the issue here. you put someone in grave danger by rushing someone with a hostage." She even admits that my actions were not unlike flashbanging, and yet suddenly it's an issue? I didn't even rush anyone, I stop, yelled out two different things, and used magic missile, at which point MULTIPLE people converged on the situation. I have never, ever, ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for flashbanging a hostage situation, and even confirmed as such after asking a multitude of people who play security often. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: I would have had more logs for this, but of course my game crashed as I was trying to go through it. I am not asking for anything more then for the warning to be removed from my account, as I think it is completely unfair.
  16. Lawyer up and hit the gym bro. Only solution. Reclaim what is yours brudda
  17. Peppermint's roleplay ability is top notch, and her character's are excellent in their backstories, how they act, as well as their difference from one another. I believe there's no reason she shouldn't have an IPC whitelist, as someone who has RP'd with her many times, there's not a doubt in my mind that she would be capable of role playing a wide variety of IPCs with great success, and would bring plenty of good character building to both her characters as well as others. Easy +1
  18. I couldn't +1 this hard enough. You can only run from one side of the station to the other and back so many times trying to deal with a wizard who just keeps teleporting away the second they so much as see you before you want to blow your brains out. It literally plagues deadhour rounds and all a wiz has to do, which they have plenty of times, is go lich and it's GG for the deadhour station. It never gives good RP, it's never fun to deal with, and it's never satisfying to win against, because it took two hours of running around maint with them teleporting constantly before you finally get a sneak tranq dart on them. And even then they still get a get out of jail free card unless you meta knowledge their robes off or they tell you their robes are the source of their power. The only way you can reasonably take off their clothes is if you get them to the brig and try to get them in orange jumpsuits, but good luck getting them more then a few steps before they teleport away and uncuff themselves. God awful gamemode that isn't worth the 1% of time it MIGHT be enjoyable.
  19. +1, no reason they shouldn't have the whitelist. They're a great roleplayer, and everything positive that's been said above I agree with
  20. I don't really know how to quote @The Stryker so hopefully answering it like this will be okay! "It seems a little strange to me that Brick's own maker would see it as too expensive to repair while Idris would quickly purchase and re-activate the machine. Aside from wanting to cut losses, is there any reason that Hephaestus would not simply repair the bot and put it back into service?" I do admit even I considered this the shakiest part of his story. However, in my mind at least, the idea behind it was that Hephaestus probably gets it's bots damaged often enough with how many they produce if I'm understanding Hephaestus lore right, and maybe has a set amount of $ they're willing to spend on repairs per robot, since eventually the repair cost would be pretty high. If that's stretching it a bit much, that leads into the next question- "Additionally, the roboticist seems to be a big part of Brick's backstory, but what about the official who purchased it? What other influences did Brick have? Does Brick still keep in touch with them? (If this is something that you'd rather show ICly, no need to answer in detail.)" the Idris official was meant to be a very, very wealthy one, I did a poor job of conveying that it'd essentially be chump change for him, not literally of course but you know. The official was more so just scouting for potential IRU/ISU recruits, and wasn't meant to be a super huge part of Brick's backstory, BUT it is actually going to be a thing shown a bit ICly. It was more focused on his relationship with the roboticist with the Official being another player in his life but nothing really major. And yes! Brick is checked up on by him from time to time to ensure his money wasn't wasted, which, just for the sake of answering the question since I don't really mind talking about it, their relationship is a sort of Brick sees them as almost a grandfather like figure, while the official couldn't really care less about him outside of making sure his money was well spent. "Love the insight here." Thanks a bunch! And thank you for the questions! It's great to hear from you, Stryker
  21. BYOND Key: Hepatica01 Character Names: Klementine Kuznetsov, Zoya Kuznetsov, Jane Kanvers, Annika Richards Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark Red Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read the lore page many, MANY times over the years, and just reread it before posting this to make sure I wasn't messing anything up lore wise. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Put plain and simply, IPCs interest me far, far more then any other race currently on the server. While I have absolutely nothing against the other races, nor the people who choose to play them, I personally have always been keen towards robots in real life, which naturally influenced me to want to make a whitelist for IPCs. After playing a heck of a lot of roboticist over the years, I've seen dozens and dozens of IPCs of varying types and personalities. I've seen the possibilities first hand, and already have a variety of interesting ideas I believe have quite a bit of RP potential. On top of this, the lore for IPCs is phenomenal. I fully believe that, at the advent of robotic creation, it would go near identically to how it is stated in lore, with corporations practically becoming completely reliant on a robotic work force, before the resources to create such a workforce started to deplete. The idea of massive, sprawling scrapyards filled to the brim with the discarded robotics from the era is just an awesome visual to imagine, and even gives me ideas for certain patchwork-esque robots (Not necessarily IPCs) made from parts scavenged from just such scrapyards. IPC lore has always interested me, but I've never felt like I had the RP ability to properly play one. I still am not completely certain, but I would love the chance to try, hence why I'm finally applying for such a whitelist after years of wanting one. All in all, I think there is an incredible amount of character diversity that can be done with IPCs that I, personally, don't believe any other race can achieve. I already have a multitude of ideas for a variety of different IPC characters with a wide variety of differing personalities between them. It's my hope that, should I receive an IPC whitelist, I can do the race justice through meaningful RP and character interactions. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, I believe there are a multitude of different answers to this question specifically depending on the type of IPC, so I'll try to go over everything. Starting out, IPCs can range from nearly identical and indistinguishable from humans (Hence, untagged Shells) to extremely robotic in nature. This leads to a significant disparity in how you can play one IPC to another, which is somewhat similar to humans, actually. Given that it was humans who created the positronics, I believe that being the case makes perfect sense, as IPCs are stated to sometimes be a product of their environment. For example, let's say an extremely xenophobic Necropolis roboticist creates an IPC meant for military application. While it's learning, perhaps it overhears the roboticist constantly talking about how much it hates alien life, how evil alien life is. It wouldn't be surprising, then, if that IPC came to hate aliens and see them as evil. This is very similar to how humans can develop. However, that being said, even the most human of the IPCs are vastly different from humans in a variety of ways. A human can handle an ion rifle without a second thought, while an IPC would see that and would likely be extremely weary given that their number one priority is often self preservation. While on the flip side, a human would (ideally) be fearful of running head first into, say, tear gas, while an IPC could charge head first in knowing it wouldn't be effected. I believe situations like these, among many others, are where IPCs really shine in their RP. Character Name: ISU-Brick Brick was originally designed for construction work, created by Hephaestus as a massive Second Generation model meant for heavy duty lifting and dangerous work. As it was a construction bot, there was little need for a programmed personality, or even much in the way of intelligence, simply being able to do as it was told was more then enough for it's line of work. One day, however, a large steel beam crashed down on top of it in a workplace accident, damaging it heavily. Not wanting to expend the large amount of resources it would require to be repaired, Hephaestus decided to cut it's losses and sell what was left of Brick. At the auction, a wealthy Idris official purchased the G2 after a quick negotiation, bringing it back for the roboticists at Idris to fix up for their ISU program. There, Brick was tended to for quite awhile, his positronic being the first thing to be repaired. When Brick's positronic came back online, the roboticist was fascinated by how "simple" the unit was, and how it would often mimic things the roboticist said or did, yet due to some minor instability would repeat it in a technically correct, but made little sense practically. For example, when the roboticist had shocked himself on a loose wire in Brick's arm, he shouted out, "Agh! This pain in the ass arm!", which prompted Brick, after a moment of analyzing, to repeat; "Yes, Unit's arm is: hurt donkey." The roboticist adored this quirk, and opted to leave it in after ensuring it would cause no real issue. The two bonded during Brick's repair, and as a result the roboticist spent quite a lot of his time talking to Brick, teaching him various things so that it could better function in it's new role. As such, ISU-Brick was put into action, where it has happily served for close to a year, often visiting the roboticist when it has down time, for maintenance and to catch up. What do you like about this character? I love his little quirk most of all, but I also love the idea that he is rather "stupid" for lack of better term, but has grown from being almost completely machine-like, next to no personality, to learning somewhat from his roboticist, as well as developing the quirk from his accident. These things causing him to gain his own unique personality, somewhat, while still staying true to his original programming of being rather simple, at least compared to other Idris units. While he certainly isn't as simple as he once was, thanks to his relationship with his roboticist as well as Idris training programs he would have downloaded, I'd say he'd be a perfect heavy shock-troop type of ISU, in contrast to the finesse that would be shown by many IRUs. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have a really hard time answering questions like this. I've RPed for a very long time, in various different settings, from SS13 to pen and paper RPs (like DnD), and in an effort to actually answer the question, I would say I'm, on my best day, above average. There are plenty of times where I falter, especially in high stress situations, and RP falls to the way side somewhat, but I often try my best and hopefully that's what counts. Notes: Robo man good
  22. Chugged two bottles of vodka within 45 minutes and didn't even get tipsy. +1
  23. Wonderful person, fully deserving of the whitelist. They have great role play ability, and everything everyone's said above me is spot on. It's always a pleasure to see them playing, and fun to interact with them IC and OOC. Easy +1 from me.
  24. Mel is one of the absolute best people I've met on this server. She is kind, compassionate, and an amazing, well rounded roleplayer who does a wonderful job interacting with anyone who tries to RP with her. That aside, her mechanical ability is top notch, multiple times on multiple characters has Mel saved my life with her medical skills, some of which I was almost certain to be dead. She has an extensive knowledge of medical and it's workings, has the respect and friendship of most if not all who come through medical daily, and I couldn't think of a better person for the position. She works well under pressure and I firmly believe she can definitely handle the stress that comes with a Command role. I've seen, first hand, Mel prove herself as interm CMO plenty of times, as I'm sure anyone who was around for the shifts can attest too. All in all, a perfect fit for the role of CMO proper, I'd say it's a no brainer. +1
  25. One of the best people in the community IMO, a great person, roleplayer, and certainly deserving of a whitelist. I've RPed with them on countless shifts, and I'm always happy to see them around. They RP a variety of different characters incredibly well, and I have no doubt in my mind they'd do the same as a Skrell. +1
