Ban request - ComradeCorbyn, KingofPing, Dark1Star
KingOfThePing replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Ban Requests Archive
No idea what was brought up first, logs should clear that up, but I am 100% sure that this bust out thing with 30.000 credits was also discussed in AOOC and I was under the assumption that this is what the true OOC reason of boarding would be. The "we have been called unnessecarily so often" was just an IC excuse to board the station in the first place again. Absolutely not. It was clearly said in AOOC that the TCFL will be intregrated in the current gimmick, I am 100% sure about that but also something logs can easily clear up. To conclude this from my side: I, personally, did nothing wrong - except misfiring at Beepsky instead of smashing it (which was apparently not the start of the firefight, so whatever, honestly) before it stuns me down and agreeing to such things like antagonistic ERT in the first place. For the other two TCFL troopers I dont think any malicious intent was behind firing first. Maybe it also was just a misfire, who knows? Posting this ban request the very instant the shuttle departs seems very extreme and I honestly don't know why you did it. I know dying can be shit, I even tried to bandage you and the other officer (before I tended to the Prefect, even). I only noticed after bandaging the victims, that you are in fact dead, because I forgot to pack a health scanner and didn't see it right away. -
Ban request - ComradeCorbyn, KingofPing, Dark1Star
KingOfThePing replied to AmoryBlaine's topic in Ban Requests Archive
So, alright, so even if that shot was shot by someone else, then why are you complaining about the entire TCFL team? No one is responsible for someone else's ingame actions. What did you expect? You instantly returned fire. which is understandable. Doing nothing and get gunned down? You were clearly armed with lethal weaponry, so doing nothing was no option. If I did not do the first shot, then I don't know why I am listed here. Not my fault and not my responsibility if someone else shoots at someone without reason, especially when I'm not playing the leader of the team, no idea what you want from me here. And, of course I admit I fired a shot - because that's what happened. Why should I deny the truth? The difference lies in the intent. Did I want to escalate it unnessecarily? No? I always play the fucking medic as an emergency responder. Every fucking time. in 99% of the cases I don't fire a single fucking shot. So maybe the misclick was in a very very unlucky and bad moment but it was nothing more than that. A misclick. Misfire. I already said in OOC and even in LOOC, shortly after the firefight, that I can explain the misfire. You can't do it during the round in OOC because of ic in ooc, I couldn't do it in more detail in LOOC because I was fucking busy at the moment, you didn't let me before posting this. And especially if my shot wasn't the first one, that was fired - I, again, don't know why I am listed in here. That's not entirely correct, the gimmick was proposed as getting paid, I think it was 30.000 Credits to bust out that Scientist who did the fake fax earlier who "owned" the station now. That was the idea. It never happened, we were told to wait a moment, so we waited EVA, then we were supposed to enter and make contact already, yada yada yada. We were brought in by an antag (no idea who it was, I also don't care, to be honest) by that proposition, which sounded interesting, they never did it, even though we were already in the middle of it, so I don't know why I (or we) are being held accountable for that. -

Untrue Also untrue Not true Not true All claims of things being untrue should easily able to be backed up by logs, if nessecary. Now, to clear things up a bit: ERT was called, we slot in and we were asked to wait 20 minutes before actually arriving at the station in AOOC. No problem, we do as asked. Then the situation with the Ninja or whatever, I didnt pay too much attention to the round while spectating got resolved. We ask if we should still go or just ghost, when the other antags come up with the idea to incorporate the TCFL in their traitor gimmick or whatever (This, by the way, never happened, I would have never deployed if I knew we wouldn't be actually incorporated in the gimmick). I, before making any decision say the following: "Without a go from the higher ups I won't do any violent/antagonistic behaviour as TCFL". This was given and we deploy. I will cut out the stupid standoff at the bridge, because the emergency assets that were called were not let in, blablabla. So we go around, leave maintenance and have kind of another standoff with the crew, when fucking Officer Beepsky rushes at me, shouting "Level Four Infraction Alert!" while I was undeploying my suit to give myself some medication because a grille shocked me. So this is my train of thought in that moment: "Fuck." "If Beepsky stuns me down security will just engage and overwhelm the other two legionaires." "I can just smash Beepsky to death, no problem." Left-click on Beepsky. "Lgn. Urist has shot the gauss thumper." It went all down from there, we all know the rest. So, yes, I take the blame for firing first, because of a mislick or rather a misinterpreted misclick. Maybe I just slightly missed Beepsky's sprite by a pixel and shot because of that, who knows. Do with that whatever. I was already saying in OOC I can tell everyone why the first shot fell - you didn't even bother to hear that before posting this, which makes me sad, that one can't even make a honest mistake like that. Why you try to back your complaint up with things you a) cannot know or b) just make up, I guess is beyond me. I like you and you should know that I am the last person that plays this game for combat. That's all I have to add. -
Not going to lie, I personally think this is a great idea. I even would go a step further and introduce some kind of storage system for larger artifacts (similar to cryogenic storage, to think of it). There is already a form in the Database to describe an item's catalogue number/storing place/reference number, etc. It would give Xenoarch/Anomalous Materials a big QoL addition. If that is too much, then the vendor, as the OP describes is also a great addition. It makes a lot of sense to try to get some black numbers in xenoarch, considering it's a niche department and probably doesn't get a lot of funding in the first place. So why not sell some trash, that's not considered valuable by the company to some crazy collectors? Great idea, honestly.

[1 dismissal] Introduce permadeath
KingOfThePing replied to legitimatespaceperson's topic in Archive
Yeah, I know, if one says it like that it makes sense, but since there are no rules to enforce any permadeath (which is good) the policy just makes little sense, ICly. Even with cloning existing the mere act of cloning is still terrible. It's not like death is no obstacle anymore. Call it my headcanon but can one be really sure that whatever comes out of the cloner is really the same person you talked to yesterday? No one knows and its ambiguous (which again, is good). If you try to think yourself into such a situation, I'd still rather have my friend not die as a hostage than take a risk and have a clone of him running around. Don't you agree? tl;dr: Even with cloning existing its still a pretty terrifying thing and I dont think anyone wants someone they know or work with to be cloned since it's scary -

[Accepted] Goret's IPC application
KingOfThePing replied to Goret's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I hate you, something you should know by now, so I am downvoting this have some questions about this character I'd like answered before I want to make give a + or - on the app. Keep in mind, that I myself do not play synths or have an IPC whitelist, so I hope the questions aren't stupid: First of all, the story is creative, more creative than anything I have ever thought off, but I find some things....strange. First you say that Halfway was found, drifting in space and it's origins couldn't be determined, even after extensive efforts. Why would an IPC with unkown origins, unkown previous owner and, let's call it refusal, to cooperate, regarding his past, being brought onto one of the most valuable research stations of NanoTrasen? For all they know Halfway could be malicious, could record sensitive data (or their colleagues showering, idk). No matter if willingly or unwillingly. It seems like a huge hole, regarding internal security. Also, even if NanoTrasen can't determine it's owner, wouldn't it be considered theft, if he would just be incorporated into the company? Why would NT risk doing something like that? What does Halfway bring to the table that they not just scrapped him, due to his, quote: "memory failure", and their "fear of space". It reads like Halfway is pretty broken, which would be logical after five years of drifting in space. Second, he is afraid of space. Right. But he is brought onto a space station, on a rock floating in....space. His job in security requires him to be able to go EVA. Be it for potential hostile fauna, retrieval or fighting purposes - there's a long list of reasons why officers could be required to go EVA. Think about this: the AI Upload entrance is basically a glass dome, when exiting the elevator. It's dark down there and well - only glass seperating Halfway from space. Would he be in panic, when going down there? There are a lot of places like that. The hallway for the pool is another example for a less restricted area. What exactly sparks the fear, space itself or the darkness that comes with it? Or is it something else entirely? I understand that he is afraid of being stranded and lost again, but that's something that could happen anytime, with a wrong step when being EVA. Is he afraid of dark maintenance tunnels, too? I don't know how "severe" his fear is and how much it hinders him in his duties, so please explain it a bit more. Lastly, due to probably not knowing enough about IPC lore: Why is he a Zeng-Hu model? I can see that they are fast and officers arriving at a scene fast is a plus, but does it have any other reason you chose that chassis in particular? If so, what are these, if no, then why chose the more fragile chassis and not one most security IPCs use? I'd like to hear your thought process on why you chose this chassis. All in all I know that you are capable of playing an IPC, or any alien race, OOCly. The character you came up with raised some questions I am sure not only I would like to hear an answer to. -
The monitor in the captain's office is also only linked to...three(?) cameras. The one right in front of the office, the one at the bridge double airlocks and the one in the hallway in between. I think. So it should be possible, shouldn't it? What about the monitor used in the interrogation room?
-
It's less of a suggestion, but more something unintended I noticed: The isolation camera is not linked to the observation monitor in the adjacent room. The only camera that is supposed to be linked there to observe the isolated patients. Without it, the monitor is redundant.

Have glass containers shatter when thrown.

I work in a lab and with many kinds of glass beakers. They break. They all break easily. Too easily. -
What the title says. All kind of drills have have sounds, the handheld mining drill, the thermal drill, etc. Yet the big ass industrial-grade mining drill has none. At all. Except when it explodes, when running without the braces. It could be some thumping sounds or a continuous low "humming" kind of sound, I don't know what would fit best. Discuss.

The CMO in question was not present at the time, so you acted clearly using Directive One. Also - senior staff =/= command level positions. What are you trying to prove here? I will give you the "Senior Surgeon" thing. It was not about the "promotion" to that anyway, but I am sure you grasped that when reading what I wrote. A Chief Medical Officer is not a rank you gain with being a trainee. You know it makes no sense and try to justify it with Directive 1/3. It's not how it works. Regarding sonic: You are absolutely right, but I will not stand getting shittalked by another member of the community and just roll with it. I will not make a new post, but regarding the one below: I don't say the CMO was right in his request (I cannot remember who it was) but you as a Captain should have told him that it is not how it works. Do you not understand what I am trying to say here? To repeat myself again: senior staff =/= command level positions. This is all I have to say before I get forum banned again for off-topic discussion. You have your opinion - I have mine. End of discussion.
-
Unlike you I will keep this brief and relatively neutral, so I'll get right to it: I have never seen this before and I have played my fair share of years and rounds on Aurora, too. No need to brag about playtime here, if you ask me. And yes, you are absolutely right. The Station Directives, which I know very well say that interims should be appointed to, quote Directive One: "to fill the missing role.". With the arrival of another CMO Directive One can't, or well, at least shouldn't be applied here. Your Captain and you with your "five years [maining] command now" experience should read up on the Station Directives again. Same as above. Refrain from lecturing or passive-aggressive insulting me, nothing good will come out of it. I will quote this here from the Aurora wiki, regarding IPCs and "Job Restrictions": "No more than two jobs can reasonably be undertaken by any IPC, with sparing exceptions (such as cooks/gardeners/bartenders, or xenobotanists/xenobiologists/lab assistant and so on). If there are questions involving this, either inquire with the relevant lore developer or ahelp in-game for clarification. All synthetics are manufactured for a purpose, and any modifications to their core programming to change this purpose would be costly, not to mention time consuming and often needless." Medical is a field with many aspects which are all highly specialized. But since I seem to be wrong in the assumption that a robot should not be able to perfectly perform Virology, Psychiatry, Surgery, General Medicine and Chemistry. I want input from someone who actually is responsible for synth lore. @kyres1, please do me the favour and correct me if I am wrong. This remark is your personal opinion - fine, even if you have provided nothing to support it I will still disprove it. I do not know Soulthief as a person and I have absolutely no interest in knowing him. I have made my observations and experiences public, as he asked. You may notice I did not comment on his first app at all, because I did not noticed any powergaming moments with his chemist, when I played CMO. Why you think, out of all players, that voiced their concern here, I surely must have problems with him I would really like to hear.

[+1 dismissal]Allow telescience to access the new ruins.
KingOfThePing replied to Leudoberct's topic in Archive
They did not -
You ask every round for feedback and critique, which I provided. My personal observations and thoughts. I am not the only one, clearly, having problems with your playstyle (not you, as a person or your work as CCIA). To call us "naysayers" - practically, I'd almost say, disregarding our critique as nothing else but negativity for negativities sake with that term, was maybe not the best course of action here. You don't need to begin again with a clean slate, if it was because of my critique. I doubt you will be able to change my mind with it after this response of yours.
-
Ah, yes. The "briefing" as you call it. It's funny you mention that. They are really, really motivational. I have the one you did on your very first CMO round. I can attach a screenshot of it, for everyone to read: To me, personally, mind you, this reads as follows: "Hello, do your work, if you fuck up I will punish you and do it myself.". What kind of "briefing" is this supposed to be? Please explain it to me. To the rest: You have no virologist? Unlucky, work around it, you often have none. Spaceacilling as a start, for example can often help, you even said you told it your staff (even though I did not see that, but again, benefit of the doubt). So why is the virus curing even needed? Ask your chemist to make other medication, like Steriziline and the other one, the name I can't remember right now. The surgery - got an infection anyway, so you apparently didn't do a very good job with "making sure he knows what he had to do". The intruder, yes, was near the command surface entrance, that's correct. With the CE. Half of security and lastly you had an AI. You have staff. Use. It. You could apply that argument to *any* part of the station since even janitors have more access than your paramedics. It's something you have to play around, like everyone else. You clearly just do not understand what the problem is. The problem is not that you do surgery and chemistry. It's that you do surgery. And chemistry. And psychological treatment with the Crystal Chamber, for example. And Virology. And General Care. And first response. And - do you see my point? It's been raised several times and this will be the last time I explain it to you. If you still cannot see what the problem is, then I am sorry, I cannot help you.
-
You did it again. Literally just now in the last round (bZ5-dpPm) you again, despite having a fully packed medical team you: Cured a virus on your own, diagnosed narcolepsy (and attempted or at least very well knew how to cure it), were following a surgeon into the OR, talking to him what he has to do about a routine, minmal intrusion operation (appendix, I believe). It looked like you normally would have absolutely done it yourself if you wouldn't have been on trial. I dont know who did medication that round, so I give you the benefit of the doubt. I have seen you work in the GTR, all in addition to what I have written before. Again, despite having chemistry staffed, having a Nurse, having more than one Surgeon having a Medical Doctor, Residents, even a psychiatrist etc, etc. The character is seemingly proficient in all medical fields. I have played most of the round myself but I would bet my left arm on it, that you have also performed surgery that round. You even, at one point near the end, went out to retrieve an antag, despite having not one, but two paramedics on call, even with an Odysseus. But no, you *have* to be in the front row, now matter what happens and no matter what it is. I think I have never spent so much time outside the medbay, the department you are supposed to delegate and lead, in my whole CMO time, than you in this round (Dramatic exaggeration). But you do not need to delegate and oversee anything, since you do it all yourself anyway. I can only guess how incredibly unfun this for the rest of the medbay must be. In Deadchat it was asked sarcastically "What can Sterben not do?", and the answer was, unanimously, "Nothing.". You also sometimes make the most unnessecary announcements, lengthy, too. But that may just be something that I find distracting, when suddenly an announcement fills up half of my screen, so take this with a grain of salt. It almost feels like you want to drag them out tough, for whatever reason. This is not the first time you were met with critique like the one above. So I honestly ask you: Do you not care about changing this, are you just ignoring it, or are you unable to change your super-doctor "being-in-the-middle-of-attention" playstyle? This is my third time commenting in this app and trust me, I derive no pleasure from this, but this is my third, big -1 from me.

[Accepted] MissNatcula's Command Application
KingOfThePing replied to MissNatcula's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Woah there - relax. I can only say what I seen and experienced with her. I do not - or very rarely play security, so I never experienced the spicy inner-department memes some people brought up. I am just trying to tell you why I think that a new character besides Lin would maybe be appropiate to make for the command position. It was neither critique nor did I even bring up anything specific. Also, to your "[The] Aurora is not a military base.", this is absolutely correct, yet handling firearms and enforcing law still requires a very strict mental screening. At least its like that in my country. Same with the military, but again, we are not the military. We are basically police, and being a police officer requires (again, I can only speak for my own country) strict physical and mental capabilities. I still give you a +1, just think about what I said and don't take it as an assault. -
[Accepted] MissNatcula's Command Application
KingOfThePing replied to MissNatcula's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
The only problem I see here is that you want to make Lin a Head of Staff. I can understand why you want to do this, but please, consider her mental state, you know it better than anyone of us. You made it very clear that she has mental health problems and that is fine. I like Lin very much. Really. But think for yourself if such a person should and could be trusted with being the Commanding Officer of a security force. I guess you have to pass several psychological tests and mental screenings - I doubt she would pass them all to a satisfying standard, which again, is fine. You get a +1 from me, but only if you make another character for the command role, as hard as it might be. -
There are just several red flags regarding this whole thing. No one else ever had to get a special called role as a "Senior Surgeon", for example, to make it clear that they can be asked questions. You should approach someone in LOOC or even ICly, if it fits. Almost no new player asks on their own anyway. You have to approach them and the "cool" "Senior Surgeon" title won't "make it clear" to anyone or help with that. You are a whitelisted IPC player, it can be expected that you haven't started playing on the server yesterday. All in all does it look like you want to be in the center of attention lately, yesterday, for example with being a "Deputy Chief Medical Officer". Such a thing simply does not exist, and you do not become a CMO, ICly or in real life, by being a trainee for a few weeks. That's just not how it works. I don't know who played the captain that allowed this, but it's not about him anyway. You've been interim for about 5 minutes before another CMO woke up - unlucky, but be it like that. You should've just given away the things from the CMO office and reassigend back to your normal rank (not this Senior Surgeon thing, I'd still be interested how you convince everyone to just allow that either). It looked like you just wanted to keep the CMO headset (and maybe the hypospray but I havent seen it on you so I give you the benefit of the doubt) and thus access to command channels, and, more importantly the additional access, which should not have been allowed, in no case. I saw you use that access first hand, so I know it was not revoked. You also used it to cure a viral outbreak yourself, despite having a biochemist on duty who even asked if she could help. All that looks like you just want to be in the center of attention - something that is absolutely not what being a head of staff is about. I believe you are just not fit for playing command and no one week trial will change that.
-
Alright. Thank you for your answer. I'm sorry, but I my personal verdict on your app will be a definite -1. Though I have not interacted with your characters that much, I had a lot of opportunity to observe them and without wanting to drag this out, since everything has been said by others before me, I cannot support your command app, currently.
