[Accepted] Naelynn Command Whitelist
KingOfThePing replied to Naelynn's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You might want to re-think your suggested character, since Internal Affairs Agents will be replaced very soon. -

Some drafts of two of my characters I never bothered to finish. I never felt the need to have pictures for my other (mostly alien) characters: Sei Armas, one casual, one in uniform: Akara-156, in business apparel: I'll probably never finish these.

You are honestly delusional if you think an announcement that, I quote, said: "Only post if involved or have something to contribute." will save you from all the people who clearly have a problem with your character. You are holding up mirrors and apply double standards in your post above and I will explain in thorough detail why that is, becasue this is my contribution to this complaint as an observer and the one person who said in your application that I will +1 you, but only if you make a new character. The mental state of people working in security (even more so if they lead a security force) is very important. This has been explained a plethora of times to you already why that is, so I will leave it as that. This entire paragraph is basically a "no u". You explain your character being unfit with "oh, but there are so many others, that are, too!" and I would honestly be interested in who you mean. There are not many regularly played HoS characters currently. One is yours, another one is Sophie Hawkins, formerly Rifler, very good at what they do, then Jesse Armstrong, also, not perfect but I never had a problem with them during a round. Then Joseph Lock comes to mind, an absolutely stellar HoS, in my opinion and he isn't even playing that long on the server. So who is that bad HoS you are talking about? I can honestly not think of any that are currently being played regularly. Also, you seem to try to make our replies and thoughts less impactful by saying "again in your own opinions" and just generally saying that these are just our opinions and therefore they are not worth anything? Of course we are explaining our opinions here, someone who has a problem with something then that's their opinion, I dont know where you are trying to ultimately go with this argumentation. Please, I beg you, please "detail several displays of horrible HOS behaviour". You say you are here to defend yourself and use that very argument to defend yourself maybe you should start explaining what you mean, since you use it as one of your prime arguments against everyone in this thread. Instead you repreatedly get extremely defensive claiming to "not post anything else here" and "only the admin's opinion matters", which is not how this works. You tell us to "pull [our] own heads out of the dirt" but instead you yourself bury yours in the sand, not wanting to have any of it, without actually adressing the problems, thoughts and, behold, opinions of others. Because they are apparently worthless, since we have no red colour on the forums/discord/ingame/etc. I wish someone had, but making IRs is a hassle. Many, many people refrain from doing it because of the work and commitment tied to it, even as the one reporting something. I would be very suprised if this is true. Again, don't badmouth a proper complaint by saying it is just "a loose complaint". Also, us "hop[ping] on in like a firing squad" should tell you a lot, but you dismiss it, as usual. Maybe all these people are glad someone finally did have both time and commitment to start a complaint about the thing that has been bugging them for so long. No, you wouldn't. You would react the exact same way you did here, because that's how you react to any kind of criticism, always. You would never, ever come so far to see that your character is unfit or did something wrong. You showed a great deal of inability to see criticism as it is: Criticism on your character, not your person. You are apparently incapable of drawing a line between OOC and IC and you've shown this a great amount of times, in this complaint alone.
-
As usual you act overly defensive and hostile, as soon as someone critizes you, but I am not here to judge you on that, because it's no new behaviour and I don't think you actually care about the fact that it's just abrasive. Same goes with always the same reasons and excuses how no one wants to know the character and everyone is always so evil to her. While I don't have a problem with you at all or your character too much (I don't play security) you might want to ask yourself if all the others are in the wrong or you maybe do something wrong in the end. Closing your eyes is one way to deal with it, though apparently. I supported you in your application and I have nothing against you, but what you write really makes me shake my head. You do not allow any other point of view about this topic, except your own, at least it seems that way. I'm sorry but from an observer's perspective, what I was until now, this seems all really bizarre.

[Resolved] MadMan's Complaint
KingOfThePing replied to TheAbsoluteMadLad's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I spectated this whole thing and as far as I can tell Adrien Major was not killed by the stationbound, the Wizard blasted a fireball into the opening to the AI Upload (the tile that ended up being open space, the one that has the turret panel next to it), and that was what killed Adrien Major, as far as I can remember it. The Stationbound had already let go of the cadet by that time. To me it looked more like an accident to me. -
BYOND Key: KingOfThePing Character Names: Crossed out are may-mays or have never been played. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: It'll be a Shell Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: IPCs see the world through different eyes, depending on what model and what personality is loaded they approach situations completely different. Some just act in their line of duty, devoid of any human emotions or ambitions. Others are almost human like, not only in their personality, but also their appearance. But in the end they are still machines, that decide what they do off of logic, not emotions as well as having a sense of self-preservation. So even though there are some similarities to humans, their behaviour is based off of a completely different....basis. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As outlined above, the difference lies especially in the base of decision making, that not being emotions but on an action-result basis. IPCs are limited in their emotional capabilities, the best they can do is imitate human emotions, recreating them is hardly possible, especially with more classic robot-like models like Baseline frames. This is explained by the SSTA, which states that synthetics are just unable by nature to understand emotions, thus not being able to recreate them. Also, just like AIs need laws to understand any kind of "morality", the same applies to IPCs, morales and principles have to be hand-written and coded into the posibrain, otherwise IPCs are just not able to grasp what these concepts are, which makes them, on the emotional level, greatly different from humans. Character Name: Akara-156 Please provide a short backstory for this character Akara-156 was originally built by Idris Incorporated here in Tau Ceti as a data handling IPC, as well as presenting analyzed data to shareholders, the executive and VIP customers. As the name suggests at least 155 other Akaras were built before her and due to the amount of data, that a company like Idris Incorporated recieves and sends every day quite some after Akara-156 were built, too. 156 was responsible for handling a share of the data generated by personnel and the general productivity, which came together at the Idris Headquarters in Mendell City. As already said, she analyzed this data with other Akara units, tried to find improvements in productivity, information management, where to save money or shorten personnel requirements, while upholding or improving revenue for the company. Her (and the other Akara's) results were also sooner or later presented to the Executives or important shareholders - the sole reason most Akaras are Shells, to be presentable to the "public", to give the "information brokers" of Idris Incorporated a at least close-to-human face. But as it is in these times, especially with technology, sooner or later every model is outdated, and sooner or later no upgrade can keep a model afloat forever. Not too long ago this fate also hit Akara-156. One day her performance was evaluated as subpar and to get back some money (Akara units are expensive to build with a price tag of around 250.000 credits) their databanks were completely wiped except the existing personality, and sold off to interested parties, at which point she was auctioned off from Idris and bought by NanoTrasen. The thought behind the purchase was that if these Akara units can handle giant datastreams of an interstellar banking corporation they can easily handle a single department. After some attempts to datamine confidental information NanoTrasen hoped to still find inside Akara-156's databanks, which were of course fruitless, they were reprogrammed to work aboard the NSS Aurora as a Head of Personnel. This task may be much smaller in size on what Akara-156 is used to, but that doesn't mean it's easier. With basically all knowledge about her previous life lost they are curious to re-learn and find their place in their new enviroment. What do you like about this character? Even though the only thing she has left is the personality she got loaded in by Idris and thus has to find her way in the new work enviroment again she's confident in her ability to live up to the task. She is programmed to be curious, friendly, or in other words trying to be as human-like as possible. Due to the databank wipes she might have to re-learn one thing or the other but she always gives 100% for the Corporation. How would you rate your role-playing ability? As always I do not like to rate myself but was told to do so regardless. I'd rate myself a 7/10, as far as I know all my characters I ever made were well recieved (of course, the better known ones more than the less played ones) and I think I am a capable roleplayer, especially when it comes to alien races. My characters have ideals, weaknesses and are no super heroes. Notes: I'll draw a picture of Akara, probably, except this app gets processed in like, lightning speed

[On Trial] Lolziam | Head of Staff Application
KingOfThePing replied to Lolziam's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
So, I wanted to leave feedback for you, after spectating some rounds with your Captain Wallace Rook. After looking at your App you never provided a character for the application so I don't know if you went for captain right away or have others, I can only give feedback on what I know and see. Another word of warning before I start, I don't want to trashtalk or downvote you here, but it will be critique nontheless. I think you are a good player and are willing to learn but if you really started with captain as your command trial character then you maybe overestimated your ability to handle the stressful nature the role has to it. You made some very big mistakes during the rounds I spectated, including but not limited to: - Abusing the EBS system, repeatedly, even after being warned by Central Command about it. - Requesting an ERT team, despite it being absolutely not needed (all of security was still standing), no less than three times over fax, instead of just swiping for it, if you really felt needing it. - Telling all of Command what the nuke disk is and what's it used for. - Threatening other Command staff to be removed from their position during (nearly) standard operations. - Holding the entire server hostage for TWO hours (to a total round length of 4 hours) with Code Red. - Generally it seemed like you communicate rather poorly with security but it's hard to judge from a spectating perspective, sometimes. - This one's just something personal, so you might disregard it: Kicking in the show case to take the priceless antique laser pistol repeatedly just, well, just because I guess, since you still had your normal laser pistol fully charged on you every time I saw it. That's all I can think for now from the top of my head. If I recall more I add it to it. Again, don't take this as shittalk, but rather to show you that a lot of things can go wrong, when playing a Captain poorly, which is why I would recommend you to play another command character until you have more experience (if you have another command character, again, I don't know.). -
Whitelist Application
KingOfThePing replied to Yuander_Xz's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hey, Yuander_Xz. First of all, a good thing that you want to apply for a whitelist, second, you didn't do very well with it, sadly. But that's okay, everyone starts somewhere. First things first: You always apply for one whitelist per application. So if you want to apply for IPC and Tajara you have to write two different ones. Second: I think you misunderstood the "Have you read our lore section's page on this species?" part of an application. Not the forum rules are being talked about there. To clarify, the different pages about the races, including their cultures, their home system, differences, etc., on the wiki are being talked about. For Tajara that would be: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Tajara , from there you come to the other Tajara pages, as said above, society, planets, culture. I'd encourage you to read it all, even though it's a lot. For IPC it's this page here https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=IPC, same as with Tajara, you come to other pages, including important information from there. Again, read it all, it's a bit less than for Tajara. Third: After reading all this lore you should think about with what character you want to apply. They should be unique, believable and show that you understand both the lore and the species itself. Some people achieve this with relative short backgrounds, others write a lot. It's up to you. Just show us, that you have an understanding of the race you apply for. I hope that helps a bit. -
Yes. That's why I posted a clearly sarcastic picture. I fully agree with what you said.

I don't have anything against this change as is, but do you have a reason for it?

Way better than your first iteration. I like them now much better.

Goodbye, Starman.

I only want to comment on the access part for now - do not give them all access. Or any more access as it is right now. They are a third party and government ord not, NT would NEVER give a third party all access/any advanced access or access at all to their facilities. Civilian access is what they should have and live with.
-
Yes. If I was a developer I would not want to be stripped away the possibility to name my PR what I wanted it to. If it gets more interesting from it and people click on it and actually read the exact changes, the better. I don't see any downside here. It is a literal click, people who are invested in github read the PRs anyway and people who get interested in it by some funny titles may get invested in github or the developing cycle/insights of the dev team more.

First iteration is, colour-wise, way better.

Welcome to the world of people who could technically put a title after their name, but assuming you're not a Doctor of either kind, would never do it out of sheer embaressment.
