1. Ignoring the fact that this is flagrantly ignoring the lore, you cannot whitelist with a Tajaran that is not born on Adhomai. Also, this. I must say that if the character as it is now is what you truly want in your character, you may want to play somewhere else because I cannot see it being accepted in any form here.
2. I am curious about this. There is this problem with lore events where the crew of Aurora frankly aren't people to give much of a damn about, no one there decides jack about anything besides what happens on the station, someone who wants to have trade negotiations with Nanotrasen would go to Odin, not Aurora. Back when lore events were rather common there was also the question of why important people went there all the time when they always left with a diplomatic incident. What are your thoughts on lore events elevating Aurora on a pedestal it should not really be on? If you were lore manager would you do something special with either the events or Aurora to have this make sense? EDIT: Although I guess with Exodus/Aurora/anywhere we go being a '''top of the line''' research station there is some merit for those godawful VIP tours, but I get the sense that's not what you have planned.
3. I wrote this at the start of 2017 minus a few edits, but I believe everything in it still applies. So I have been CMO for half a year or so, and came up with my own opinions towards playing it. Stuff here can overlap with being a head of staff in general, but this is primarily focused on The Chief Of Medical. Without further ado, Tell everyone what they need to do. (to a reasonable degree) Staff need to know what everyone else is doing, if they don't, this'll lead to two people trying to handle a one-man task, wasting time, paramedics and EMT's are meant to leave medical and bring back injured, surgeons are meant to do surgery, medical doctors are meant to handle most things in between, remind people of this when necessary, Of course there is overlap, but if both a medical doctor and a surgeon says "I'll handle it boss" when the Paramedic says they're bringing in someone with broken bones, make sure the surgeon is going to be doing the surgery. You should also tell people where they need to be, even if they should (theoretically) know what's going on, this does two things. It lets them know what they're supposed to be doing, doctors are not amazingly aware creatures, as supervisor you'll need to occasionally tell them what needs to be done, better safe than sorry. It lets everyone else know what they are doing, telling someone to do something will generally prompt them to say "Doing it boss", this lets the rest of the medical staff know that someone is dealing with the problem and they are not needed. Even if what you are saying sounds really obvious (person screams "MEDICAL HELP ME HERE" on radio, you instantly tell the paramedic to go there, medical doctor says "guy needs surgery", you tell the only surgeon to do it, etc) you should do it, because again, doctors aren't aware of everything or each other all the time. Avoid doing things yourself when possible, your time is important. The minute you start doing surgery, grab an EVA suit to drag someone out of a breach, or, god forbid, enter a 30 minute long RP checkup session with someone (that's what nurses are for), your ability to keep perspective on the situation is instantly skewered, delegate whenever possible, if you are incapable of effectively ordering your staff to deal with things as they arise, then you are no better than a medical doctor with extra access. Of course you will always need to help out here and there, but entering a committed operation should be one of your last options, (worse options being recruiting non-medical crew to do it), factoring in urgency and proximity, luckily there are some useful things to use rather then having to deal with something yourself. Your medical staff are versatile and tend to overlap with each other, this is a bit different now that the the medical reform is in action but basically, keep in mind that just because you do not have the specialist doesn't mean no one can do it. Medical station-bound/cyborg units are exceptional generalists, use them, unlike crew which can get irritatingly distracted by other things, station-bounds scarcely have anything to do besides medical tasks, and you can order them to do a great many amount of tasks, ranging from chemistry to surgery, although they'll need a little help with surgery, medical units can even do a bit of paramedding outside of their specialised crisis units, you should generally try to use a medical station-bound before asking non-specialised medical staff to do something. For a few, select tasks, you also have the AI, they can read medical records for you (don't tell them to read all of them), do a bit of assisted chemistry, observe the crew monitoring console, etcetera, the AI should be your last choice for anything however, as they are often distracted by other things. Again, avoid committing to things yourself, a conversation with your favorite head of staff is fine, a psychiatric evaluation? Not so much, you can even ask assistants to fetch minor things for you instead of going out to get it yourself. Keep in mind this is a rather cold approach to being a CMO and head of staff, I've seen other people play talkative and personable CMO's, I do not know how well that works but in my book, if you want to spend (lots of) time Roleplaying then you shouldn't be a playing a Head of Staff for that round, and of course this is all my own opinion and I'm a shit.
4. This part of the station in front of the merchant shuttle just seems really dark all the time? It feels abnormal and could do with a light. The arrivals shuttle dock could do with a pair of lights in front of the airlocks too, every other dock has them.
5. I'm pretty sure people wanted to be able to know where holes were without bonking into the ceiling one tile at a time for ten thousand years. Yeh, it's better to have a UI element that'll change and grab your attention while you're moving around rather than constantly pushing a button to find out.
6. Now that sunlight has been killed because it lags the game or something, navigating upwards on the asteroid is truly a pain in the ass, almost pure trial and error. There was talk on the discord a few months back of adding a UI indicator that would tell you if there is a gap above you or not and I would like that now.
7. Anyway disregarding immersion this would fuck up a lot of mechanics for something that'd probably not be worth it. Common radio+department radio=fucketh no Ignoring that I don't have a microphone thus I couldn't play I'd probably go deaf for good with all that go on.
8. I don't really care about this server/game right now so it's probably a waste of time to do dev work for me, so, no.
9. I am almost certain that we have a civilian account for the service department. That counts as department funds under the Head of Personnel, the suggestion is to eliminate the need.
10. I am of the opinion that expecting interactions and reactions to come from a certain type of custom item is a bit of a farce in general, things like a magnetic flower pin, a headband, especially a flask, so on. I am mostly keeping my expectations realistic. Although anyone who see's Zahra handling a watch could probably deduce that A:he is actually keeping mindful of the minutes and B:he is not making guesses as to how many have passed, whereas if I didn't have them I would be using a timer in real life, with no real vehicle to show that a timer is in action. So I suppose that's relevant.
11. At first glance anyways, it's not really. Speaking as someone who's been playing both recently. Heat Signature is ultimately fairly easy so long as you manage your resources properly, and only starts getting difficult when you run out or never had them in the first place, which is the fun part. While Hotline moiami works on kicking your ass from the get go regardless of all conditions. Very different games. Git rekt Australia New Zealand is better
12. Previously IPCs could not be HoPs and HoSses at all, I fail to see why it has to be all or nothing. I am sure there is a good amount of difference between being human and pretending to be human. Not to mention not really pretending to be human at all is still possible (Example: Toronto).
13. BYOND Key:Fire and Glory Character name:Suhail Zahra Item name: wooden box gold stopwatch Why is your character carrying said item to work?Zahra has noticed that most of the time people tend to be brought in one after another once he begins processing one person, this often creates quite a backlog (brig processing machine is shit btw) and it can be hard to track how long each person has been in the brig, thus Zahra invested in some golden* stopwatches so he can track everyone separately. He has a box because keeping track of 4 watches jumping around is a pain. *It's not real gold shit costs money you know. Item function(s):When you activate a watch, the timer starts, the description then shows you how much time has passed since you first activated it, when you activate it again the timer stops and continues to display in the description until you activate it again, resetting it. The box holds four watches, changes sprites depending on how many watches it has, and preferably holds nothing but watches. Item description:A wooden box with a transparent lid, it looks like it's meant to contain four relatively small objects. A stopwatch meant for tracking time, it looks like it's gold but to the trained eye it's made from something else. This one has the number [blank] inscribed on the back. Yeah they're all numbered from 1 to 4 deal with it Item appearance: Box: Like this but with only four rows going vertically and the lid is closed. The watches look like this: How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP?For one it'll reduce time people sit in the brig being bored. If anyone ever got a good look at one of the watches it'd also show that Zahra is not one to spend money for the sake of spending money when there is a decent cheaper alternative available. Maybe people'll think he cares about his job more if he's using watches I dunno not so sure about that. Additional comments:I would not mind if a generic steel version sans box or companions showed up in equipment loadout.
14. Given that the last two Vaurca loredevs left in a less-than-ideal manner and both of them were relatively new to the present community (chev dropped off the radar for the longest time before applying after all) and neither(?) of them even had Vaurca whitelists before becoming loredev, I'd much rather we take a safe choice rather than any wildcards this time around. Canon is already a loredev, already has a Vaurca whitelist and played one too, I'd be happy if he gets a go. Although I would prefer Canon scrutinized whatever changes tabbit made before discarding them, I won't pretend I read any of them but I haven't seen any wild backlash around it unlike for chev's stuff.
15. Last I checked, Europa considered gunsmithing to be overpowered and in need of nerfs as well, it might be prudent to ask Zuhayr about it and wait until the nerfs are in place to see what it's like then.
16. Not to mention a Vox would likely possess at least a modicum of competence to be on an armed raid crew. no more clownbirds pls
17. I always thought dominate showed up in text. A paper-prompt sounds like complete ass. I'd support this.
18. It's a well-known fact that every "unarmed" roboticist is in fact packing a flash no wonder you're losing so many fights This seems...kinda arbitrary? I get where you're coming from but people can disarm spam a guy wielding any sort of weapon and have a decent chance of fucking them over. Disarm spam is dumb but it's not like it's exclusive to knives or anything. On the subject of buffing knives in specific because getting stabbed isn't a walk in the park, I'd argue that SS13 has never been exceptionally good at representing the deadliness of a fair amount of objects, hell you can get shot and keep going, so if we upgrade knives to be deadly, that's potentially a can of worms we might want to leave closed.
19. but i want to maximize the speed i can get insulated gloves from the tool vendor
20. Scheveningen Fine, fair enough. I concede regarding the blast radius.
21. Mayhaps for someone to actually work to obtain five such death-nades. I merely expect such a ss13 spacemen grenade to not, with a 100% success rate, instantly kill everyone around. Yeess, it should kill, yeess, a fair few times it should do it instantly, but mayhaps not be so unfailingly reliable about instant murder? If you can generally expect most people caught up in it to die and fully expect all of them to be seriously fucked up beyond resistance, I'd be happy.
