  1. Okay, so what happened? Obviously, the move wasn't supposed to take this long, nor was it supposed to be this. Erm. Dramatic? Anyways, here's what happened: At some point when we were using our old forums, the forum structure stored in our database become damaged. Basically, somehow, the old software introduced an error into the stored datastructure. This error was dormant until I decided to fuck with the forum structure, and remove a category. After which, the party got started. The eventual solution was provided by Talkarcabbage, who spent a large chunk of time researching the issue. A script was ran to recalculate some of the structure, and the rest was wiped in order for the forums to automatically regenerate them. It seems to be working now, with the only casualties being the announcements boards! Ergo, not much of importance, in the grand scheme of things. Now we should be in the clear, though. Nothing will be reset anymore, barring anything completely unforeseen. A huge "Thank you" to Talkar! Without his work, all of the shitposts would be gone, and we'd have to start from scratch.
  2. Okay, let's use an example I raised. Should a non-antagonist security officer be accepting bribes and, as a result, letting certain inmates go with lighter sentences or turning a blind eye to certain things? What would he have to do in order to make such a character, what are the requirements you would impose on such a player (standards wise), and should a character like that, even if well executed, fit within the framework of our server?
  3. what's funny is, both are valid options. As long as it only issues you with one, it's fine.
  4. Here's the interesting thing. Don't you think that the rules already permit what I spoke of? Minor theft, minor brawls, etcetera, as long as the character has the correct motivations?
  5. Something parallel might work for lings. Basically, the idea is to make doing the work to get the monkeys have a small reward, but shift it away from being a total end-bringing goal. With vamps, the bonus is that you unlock a new ability! But because a new ability without blood is useless, it won't get you very far. Could a similar mindset be applied to ling, or do we just yoink away the ling's ability to consume "lesser" beings? It'd be easy to explain IC.
  6. Y'know what, fuck it. Let's see where this gravy train goes. I'll discuss this with the admins, and fix up two of the antag modes, as running antags only secret without functional auto-tater and nuke is butts. Specifically next week. And then we'll run a vote on which of the three options to go with.
  7. Actually, what will be done for vamp: Vamps have two types of blood. Blood total, and blood usable. Draining a living human gives both, draining a dead human only gives blood total. Blood total unlocks abilities, blood usable actually lets you use them. I can easily modify it so that draining from a mob without a client (SSD, braindead, and protohuman/monkey) will only give blood total. I would like a similar thing, or a parallel mechanic for lings. Any suggestions?
  8. The arguments for not adding it have been posted many a times. Most of them align with forcing effort in order to received QOL improvements. That's partially the premise behind SS13: you want something nice, you have to work for it.
  9. The warning has been removed. Archiving complaint.
  10. It's a bit of a toss-up. Here's some backstory: Aurora has had one OR for the past 2 years and we've been perfectly fine. This iteration of the map, a carbon copy of Bay's map in January, has only been running since January. We've had 2 ORs only for the past 3 months. As for any mappers playing Medical: I did two stints in medical, both lasting up to 6 months with at least a secondary character (one round per day, minimum). My first run as a surgeon was back when the server started, during low population. And my second run was as an Unathi MD/Human CMO a year ago. At which point, our population was comparable to how it is now. To say that you cannot manage without two ORs is to tell a lie. You can, perfectly fine. There is only one situation where a patient needs immediate treatment, and that is with internal bleeding. In every other case, you can stabilize the patient and keep them stable without a hassle until the OR opens up. Even with a patient suffering from internal bleeding, you can keep them alive and semi-stable if you can respond fast enough and have a good supply of blood. (Present intel from a doctor who doctors SS13 forever is that internal bleeding isn't as deadly as it used to be, but has increased slightly in frequency due to ballisticurity.) The fact is, a second OR is a quality of life improvement, and those are optional.
  11. Application ancient and player not active. This was posted back in Scopes' days as well.
  12. Application accepted, 02APR2016. Assigned to work on the new map under Lord Fowl.
  13. Application accepted, 02APR2016. Assigned to work on reintroducing certain features from their own aurora WI beta (so to speak) that existed our /r/ domain. And to further the development of the WI with Arrow.
  14. Application denied, 02APR2016. A more suitable candidate found in SierraKomodo (who we have previous working experience with, and who has written site utilities for us before).
  15. Application accepted, 02APR2016. Assigned to work on the new map under Lord Fowl.
  16. Application accepted, 02APR2016. Assigned to work on the new map under Lord Fowl.
  17. The odd thing is. I tried looking into the specific mechanics by which Genetics may or may not have been disabled, and, I honestly dunno. There don't seem to be any Git pushes that touched the code, so the initial thought was that Bay simply removed the lab. However, the pre-made injectors that are available via spawn verbs don't work at all. Nor does SE modification when you actually build a console, chamber, and spend time hooking it up. Admin modification of SEs works, though. It kinda makes me go, "Wtf..." However, for the time being, my project list is as follows: DO shenanigans (to include alert levels and PDA notifications for faxes and request consoles) The IPC upgrade to Polaris' thing/IPC fixening vol 2 Occasionally indulgent sideprojects that may hoover up a day or two or a week whenever I get stressed I'll talk to Lag and see what he's up to, though. Also. Don't expect Genetics to fall into your lap as it was last time around. Stuff will be changed. Once we fix it, anyways.
  18. Since no one has spoken up, I'll lift the ban and offer you another chance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask via PM or adminhelp in-game. Otherwise, best of luck, and enjoy the game!
  19. As per the present rules, it isn't a requirement to use me's or say's in a situation like this. Combat is considered RP past the point where someone gets gibbed, and so are actions. Though the ideal is that you would have pulled them up on scope, and see where it goes from there.
  20. Literally peanut gallery: no substance. Oh, and the ban is mine. I forgot this isn't BYOND. Locked, archived, dismissed.
  21. I approve. For far too long has Aurora suffered from staff attrition. Due to the obvious success had by the USSR while operating under a similar mentality, I have indeed decided that desertion from staff is punishable by death and a permanent banning. The punishment for individuals who are believed to be considering desertion from staff is addition to the staff's "Watch List", whereby we will intercept all of your internet communications. In light of this, we are also making a new department of staff. We will refer to it as the Staff Internal Investigations Branch, and are placing Jackboot as the head of it. They will conduct monthly reviews of all staff for the aforementioned crimes, and will report to myself, after which, punishment may be assigned.
  22. >20 down and 5 up is bad Okay sir, I'll just take my 10 down and 5 up and go cry. Fiber optic is literally two blocks away ;-;
  23. He actually had them completely wrong. But this was fixed by removing the sub in the chain linked fence and using a Specialist rank between trooper and Ltpr.
  24. For an update regarding the present apps. We've inducted the first round of Trials, we'll see how we can manage them, and then continue moving on the next ones. I know there are a few I still want to interview.
  25. A part of me is wondering how CPU intensive it would be to have lights that actually flash, and that can actually be destroyed.
