I think these are all good answers. Your app is very good. It's got a big +1 from me. -
[Accepted] Hymir Skrell Application
furrycactus replied to DiscountDan's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Dan asked me a lot of questions while he was writing this, and I've been helping him out with it over the last two days. I can tell he's genuinely interested in Skrell and their lore, not only because of all the questions he had, but because of the effort he's put into his writing. Onto the actual writing itself, I like the character. I like how it touched briefly on her family life, though I do wish there was a little more info there. I like how it goes over her feelings when the Skrell made first contact with humanity, and how that changes when humanity begin production of synthetics. I think it conveys the way a lot of younger skrell might possibly feel about them, not having actually witnessed Glorsh firsthand, instead being raised on horror stories and tales about the boogeyman robots. I also like that she's worldly, and that she displays the xenophilic nature of many skrell, having worked with not just in the frontier, but also with the Alliance and the Ouereans. Her backstory seems to allude to her having a negative opinion of the Hegemony, for understandable reasons. For clarity's sake though, what are her opinions on the Izweski Hegemony, and the Unathi race as a whole? What about these new aut'akh, for instance? -
ParadoxSpace's Skrell Deputy Application
furrycactus replied to Snakebittenn's topic in Developer Applications Archives
I decently enjoyed reading your essay, and the thing that I also like the most about it is the proposed idea of making the Federation actually felt more throughout the galaxy, as well as developing internal conflicts and political things. Many nations all have news networks for instance, but only a couple seem to make use of them. For me, a nation that develops both internally and with other galactic powers is something that I really enjoy and look for when I actually play a species, it makes them feel more alive and actually present in the universe, and for me, Skrell not having much interaction with other galactic powers is something that I always feel has been something that's been a bit of a detriment to the species. Being able to talk about the goings on about your nation with other people is nice, and sometimes fun, but Skrell are one of the nations that can't really do that. As for your overall temperament, we don't actually interact much because we don't really have a reason to at all, so I can't say I've personally had many bad experiences with you, aside from a couple rare comments maybe like... once or twice? But I've seen you get kind of hotheaded or rude from time to time. But really, I've actually seen it far less since you became a moderator, as a few others have said. Personally, I think you'd make an okay Skrell lore dev, based on what's here, but that's just the lowly opinion of myself. -
I'd very much hesitate to even consider calling Tricord overpowered. The healing is still so minor that it's not breaking the game by any stretch. If you want an overpowered crutch, look at Dexalin Plus, which heals 300 suffocation damage per unit.
-
I've not seen it used in many a moon, save by those medibots, or very new players, at least personally. I practically see everybody take dex/keloderm/bicard if it's prepared ever. It's not really all that good, it's only 3 points of each damage type (6 for suffocation), it's mostly just a good medication to use if you can administer it quickly with say, a RIG's chem injector, or by the bots, because when someone is actually hurt there's better things to use. It mostly just tides people over until they can be brought to medical for proper treatment - or if someone has something like 2.5 toxin damage from a radiation storm and you don't want to waste dylovene on them. Also, if you don't have anyone that can do chemistry on shift, dexalin and bicaridine are borderline unobtainable unless you get lucky with what spawns in the warehouse - so in these cases, it's pretty helpful to have around, because it's 100% better than nothing at all. I understand there are dexalin autoinhalers in the suffocation kits, but they're not always available, and while you can administer it in the sleeper too, you're not always treating patients inside medbay. Also we have Omnizine already and it was a completely worthless addition by Burger and it's never used at all.

I love love love seeing people draw things in general, doubly so when it's characters from this community. Like Kyres said, please never ever stop doing it, it's amazing.

New Gas Canister Sprites: Feedback Thread
furrycactus replied to furrycactus's topic in Completed Projects
This was merged already, but if people still have opinions on the sprites now that they're in game I'd certainly welcome them. -
I really like them even more now.
-
I love them very much. My only request is, is it possible to get one in green? Green is the overall colour theme of medical on this map, so it would be nice to be able to match. Still though, they're stellar.

The TG ones are the ones we've got right now I'm pretty sure. -
New Gas Canister Sprites: Feedback Thread
furrycactus replied to furrycactus's topic in Completed Projects
I'm not sure what Eris canisters look like. Also, aren't our water tank sprites also from TG? -
Feedback thread for this PR: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/6669 New sprites are ported from Baystation, this is what they look like compared to what we currently have: Static image of how they look in-game (though in poor lighting, I apologise): Short video of how they look while animated (also poor quality, I apologise): https://i.gyazo.com/e9ae532656b662cd8f2c70cc71f4b74b.mp4

Geeves' Developer (Coder) Application
furrycactus replied to geeves's topic in Developer Applications Archives
Geeves been regularly showing us all of his new code works, and while they've been generally small, they've been quite numerous and extremely beneficial and are nothing but a positive improvement on the game. He puts a lot of effort into them, and he clearly cares about the server and the community immensely. My actual skill for code is in the negative values, so I can't comment on how its written, but they've all been very good PRs so far, and I can only imagine what he'd bring to the server with a larger sized protect. A big +1 from me, it goes without saying. -
Kyres, your ideas are always really good and this one is no exception. Turning the Aurora into a large ship, as opposed to a space station, strikes a perfect balance between people that want a heavy exploration setting and people that want on-site RP, and it also fixes a lot of the weird problems and inconsistencies that a persistent colony development thing would cause. Massively great idea that I support fully.

Not really. Its basically the exact same grievances.

I completely agree wholeheartedly with that, Alb.

Garn's replies. I know the complaint is legit.

Is this a joke.

BYOND Key: (This is your Byond Login/Ckey) Furrycactus Staff BYOND Key: (This is the Byond Login/Ckey of the staff member) Garnascus Game ID: (If applicable. Game ID of the round on which the incident took place. If you don't remember the exact one, then the round after or the round before works as well.) b12-a2AX Reason for complaint: (State your reason for your complaint) The round was a ling round, and towards the end the station had devolved into some kind of chaos with security and ERT chasing it around the station and such. Command decided that we should call for an evacuation shuttle, which we did. It arrived, and we had most of the crew that were able to make it pile on. The medical team was still on its way with several injured people, and it was clear they weren't going to make it to the shuttle in time, so we elected to hold it for a minute to give them time to get on. We barely had to wait even 30 seconds as they were very close - however just after we held the shuttle, Garn forced it, causing the station airlocks to shut right in front of the medical team, as they were literally right outside. In forcing the shuttle, Garn also effectively vented the entire thing, as the airlocks were still open. The only comments he made on the matter afterwards were "holding the shuttle isn't allowed", acted all over kind of shit about the situation when people tried to dispute it, and didn't provide any source as to where this was actually a written rule, aside from a tone that really just communicated "because I said so", and he chastised everyone for arguing that it isn't a rule. tldr; crew held the shuttle to give medical a few seconds to board, Garn forced it, and told everyone that you're not allowed to, and acted overall extremely rude when people tried to dispute it or ask for clarification as to where this was actually written down. If this is a rule, it needs to be properly written down, because practically no one that was present had even heard of this being the case. Evidence/logs/etc:

Ckey/BYOND Username: Furrycactus Discord Name: Joshie#6623 Position Being Applied For: (coder, mapper, spriter): Mapper Past Experiences/Knowledge: I used to experiment with mapping on TG code a few years ago, which is where I got the foundation of my mapping knowledge, but I've gained most of my knowledge and experience from doing various contributions on Aurora. Examples of Past Work: https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pulls?utf8=✓&q=is%3Apr+author%3Afurrycactus+ Probably my biggest works have been doing the current layout of Atmospherics, the remap of the Medical department, and the more recent Beach map for the company picnic event. Additional Comments: While I find mapping very enjoyable, and would love to commit to doing it more as a member of the development team, I'll be the first to acknowledge that I do occasionally have somewhat notable oversights from time to time with my projects (i.e., accidentally leaving an air alarm in space (oops)), but I think, or at least would like to hope, that I've improved and will continue to improve on not doing things like that by mistake. Though I can totally understand if stuff like that is a massive concern.

I thought it was extremely fun, and think it's set a very positive precedent for future holiday related events as well. The freedom of being off-station and getting to just relax and roleplay without the overbearing feeling of needing to do your job was a very nice change of pace. It was very fun. I'm also insanely happy that people enjoyed the map ❤️

I'm confused. The wiki says that sk'akh and th'akh are both accepting of the cloning process, it's just prosthesis that they spurn, which is what I was attempting to refer to. Crystal mentioned that their Unathi character, as well as a few others they're aware of, don't personally happen to approve of cloning, and I was saying that just because the issue doesn't affect them, doesn't mean it won't affect most other Unathi whose religion is fine with cloning. Hence why I feel that this proposed form of cloning is going to disproportionately affect Unathi more than other races, because the majority of Unathi aren't accepting of prosthesis because it'll harm their soul, and so many more are going to be delegated to sitting around in wheelchairs without limbs for the rest of their life, if canon, or taken almost totally out of the round if they're missing several limbs. And I have to agree, being effectively completely pushed out of the round while others aren't because they don't have religions that say "no robot arms" doesn't feel like very enjoyable RP or flavour.
-
While there are outliers of course, just because yours and a couple other players' Unathi are adverse to cloning doesn't mean the majority are, especially considering the spiritual belief is that their body is just a vessel, and cloning puts your soul in a new one. A system like this might not affect you all that much, with your character being against cloning personally, but it would still affect a high amount of others. Getting cloned and turned into a limbless potato isn't going to be very fun for anyone.

Move the atmos fireaxe into main engineering
furrycactus replied to Pratepresidenten's topic in Archive
Engineers already have a bit of a tendency to arm up at the first sign of conflict. The idea of making the axe that bit easier to get to makes me a little worried really. -
I for one really like the animations, it makes everything feel more... I don't know, responsive. It feels like things are actually moving, rather than 2D things simply gliding around everywhere and at most maybe changing direction. While I am admittedly not a huge fan of the chat bubble animation, the rest I all love, and these are all practically standard animations on many other SS13 servers. I can understand the argument of wanting Aurora to have its own art direction, but even so, Aurora's art development in compare to other servers is exceptionally stagnant, and I think these animations help spruce it up a bit.
