I upscaled the gasmasks using nearest neighbour, and added nice moodlighting. This is so that blind people like me can see the sprite easier. Now that I can see it clearly, I really like it! It feels pretty modern, which is cool. More obvious gas filters or lines or whatever bluespace magic we use would be cool too! I like it.

Oh god, please. P l e a s e. This is a shameless bump.

[Denied] Head of Staff - Veterangary
geeves replied to VeteranGary's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've RP'd with you quite a few times, and I have literally never had a bad experience with you. You are incredibly fun to be around, your characters are great. I personally voted Hujsak to become an Interim HoS during a landmine round, and I think you handled it pretty well. Except for the minor 3 year not enough security work problem, I think you would be a really good command staff member! (We really need more good command staff, please.) Big 'ole +1 from me! Should probably edit a few stuff, though. Ye. -
Alright, I've talked to Doxx a bit about the character in DMs and everything seems pretty set to me! The character in itself seems to fit the lore of the species from what I've read and discussed with Bygone and Jam, although I'm by no means well versed in it. Doxx is pretty good at roleplaying different characters, managing to create a gimmick for everyone that isn't overdone or out of place. I'm quite sure that they will manage to do great things, easily becoming a top 10 Vaurca player (that's a joke, there are only 7 players, :agony:). All-in-all, I think this would be good to accept, we need more bugs! +1

I'll second this. I also want them mountable on a spear or pike. Sacrifice your local vaurca to reap valids. Alb, please buff.

-1 For that refreshment pun. But no, seriously. Fresh is pretty high up there in "good RPers". They have quite a solid grasp on the game's mechanics and I trust that they'd be able to handle the responsibility of Head of Staff pretty well. Having known this character from previous off-server and on-server RP experiences, I think it'd be a good change from the regular. Full +1 with rice from me.

I think Riq has been playing on Aurora longer than I've been doing SS13. They're incredibly knowledgeable about the various mechanics and recently they've been playing more "important" roles such as Warden. I fully believe that they are capable of leading a department OOCly. As well as this, they're very chill OOC and can take constructive criticism. ICly, their characters are different and genuinely fun to interact with. They never break character and they're believable. I'm sure Delta will be an excellent CMO. I'd say it's about time that he's making this application, jeez. +1

[Accepted] Jamchop23334/Jamofboy's Skrell Application
geeves replied to JamOfBoy's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Jam is very good at playing the role of any character, be it in-game or for the super secret RP thing we're doing together. My interactions with them is always pleasant. As I do not know enough about Skrell to comment on the lore, I'll keep it at what I know of the player. From what I've seen, Jam conveys the feeling of "otherness" each race has very well. Their acts as Vaurca, Unathi and Human differ greatly (And these are just those that I've seen personally!), which leads me to believe that if they were to be roleplaying a Skrell character, they would be able to do it amazingly well. It goes without saying that they get involved with the lore as they are, I believe, a lore deputy. -
Cue the psych running after the patient to stay in LoS, I literally cannot wait.

[Accepted] Simon's Dionaea Whitelist Application
geeves replied to SampleTex's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I believe I was actually the guy who pushed Simon to pick up either an Unathi or Dionae whitelist. Either way, I believe that Simon has the RP skills required to play Dionaea, as I've personally RP'd with their characters and found it to be an all-around enjoyable experience. Their attitude OOCly is always pleasant, I have seen no issues with them in any way. The application's grammar and spelling is good, a refreshing change of pace. Their backstory, albeit short, displays all the prominent parts of the being of a Dionae. Gestalt, nymphs, curiousness. The identification of role-playing differences is also well composed and accurate. If this doesn't get accepted, I'm going to have to unsheath my plasteel spear. :^) -
There are unused servers in telecomms, I think it'd be better to add an additional crossover channel, for when specific departments needs to communicate with each other directly. (Such as Security and Medical, Science and Cargo, Engineering and Vendors)

Furrycactus is one of the view people I know that know atmospherics super in-depth, and he's designed a lot of cool things for it. I fully trust that his improvements/changes would be of top-notch quality and make the role/system much better.

[Accepted] Furrycactus' Head of Staff Application
geeves replied to furrycactus's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Alright. I'm not that good with Tajara lore so I'll leave that part out of my consideration. The grammar in this application is good, and the answers are satisfactory. Now onto in-game; As we're both engineers, I often get the chance to roleplay with him and personally I feel like his ability to improve a round with roleplay alone is quite significant already. I would also say that I'm pretty sure he's a lot more knowledgeable in the niches of Engineering, such as the Tesla engine and Advanced atmospherics, than I am. I am fairly certain that Furrycactus would be an excellent Chief Engineer and furthermore, an excellent Head of Staff. I cannot wait to fight him for the CE slot. I know I'll win, though. +1 -
implying the unathi devs aren't meming themselves, the plot is thick, young human

Posting here because grabs make me want to cry. I wasn't alive for old grabs, but new grabs are so useless without power gloves (and even then) that I rarely see it used, even though it's quite the powerful tool. It's 1/4 of the intent system that's just worthless, so please give it another look.

[Accepted] Sleepy's Head Whitelist
geeves replied to SleepyWolf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I don't really have much critique on the application itself, it's a bit joke-y, but that's fine, I suppose. Far as I know the character's backstory is solid and meshes with Unathi lore. Big thing is, Sleepy has proved to be a competent roleplayer, and despite the application's joke-y-ness, they can roleplay a serious and genuinely entertaining character. They're fun to talk with OOCly and they have the personality to mold into what one needs for a Head position, I believe. Also, "A Big Fucking Tree". +1 -
[Accepted] Geeves' Head of Staff Application
geeves replied to geeves's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
live wires are actual hackers, they need a nerf. I'll add Ioraks to the list, I swear I did but oh well. Thanks for the feedback! -
BYOND key: Geeves Character names: Geoff Lufvio, Grayson Mintfill, Harvey Isemann, Touch of the Light, Ruzaaki Ih’akhar, Aruzi Ozehko, Ksahoi Laeski, Kuhserze Ioraks How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Roughly seven months now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I believe I’m at the crossing point of roleplay, mechanics knowledge and responsibility to take on more important roles aboard the NSS Aurora. Why did you come to Aurora?: A friend actually introduced a group of us to it by hosting a private server using Aurora as codebase. Unfortunately some troubles caused the group to disband and I, alongside some others, sought out the real deal, so to speak. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Currently I’m only wanting to play Chief Engineer, and have read this entry many times, thoroughly. Naturally when I do move over to the other head roles, I will do the same to them. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: My view on roleplay is quite simple, really. I think it’s just an outside player, playing a character in-game. Much like an actor playing a character. To this end, I myself don’t really live myself into characters, instead seeing all the events as a play on a massive stage. The combination of out-of-player-control events and player roleplay intermingling to create quite the impressive play. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOCly, a Head of Staff player should direct newer players to avenues whereby they can learn new facts, tips and tricks, and perhaps hidden nuances of the department they participate in. Whilst this may garner me some hate, I also believe the Head of Staff have a responsibility to not hog antagonists and give them some leeway to interact with the rest of the crew. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: OOCly, the Head of Staff player has the responsibility of always generating an excellent roleplay experience for everyone they interact with. This may clash with my validhunting past, but I believe I will be able to keep it under lock and key when I play in a position of importance. I will attempt to uphold the responsibility, and somewhat my own personal morals, by staying my blade. (I had to.) Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Kuhserze Ioraks Character age: 30, soon to be 31. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ioraks was born in S’th, to a typical Unathi household. He is the only child of his parents. As he grew up, his visits to his Shaman’s various topics and learnings revealed an interest in mechanics and engineering. He began to tinker with any devices he could get his hands on, as well as building a small wind pump for his family home. He attended school at S’th Primary and Higher, where he received average to above average marks. After school, he was put into Lord Azioli Karkartus’s Levy. He requested to be put into an engineering branch, which was accepted under the condition that he attend additional engineering classes at the S’th University, run by the Akazars Engineering Guild. Here he received intricate knowledge which later helped him find his job aboard the NSS Aurora. Aboard the Aurora, Ioraks has been working as a Station Engineer for some time. In recent months he has begun being assigned as Interim Chief Engineer by Captains that recognize his ability and willingness to lead. This has caused him to pursue the position of Chief Engineer, having recently gotten his Doctorate in Engineering at the aforementioned S’th University. What do you like about this character?: He is (mostly) an upstanding Moghean citizen representing his Species proudly aboard the NSS Aurora. He is quick to take the lead and leads somewhat effectively. He has a very general skillset covering most spectrums of Engineering which would be invaluable as Chief Engineer. What do you dislike about this character?: He isn’t as harsh as he should be. He is known to treat Guwans as people fallen on hard times, despite their status as the lowest of low. He handwaves petty crimes often as it is “not his problem”. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He knows how to lead, as he was part of a Feudal Levy, experiencing excellent leadership first-hand. He knows everything a Chief Engineer ought to know thanks to his work aboard the Aurora and the additional studies at the University. Additionally, he has knowledge of station regulations and the nuances of station etiquette. Having been Interim Chief Engineer three times previously, he has gathered knowledge about how other heads operate and how he should mesh in the whole command structure. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10, sometimes I mess up hilariously. Extra notes: I wrote this whilst being somewhat sleep deprived, as always. Any comments, feedback or angry angry suggestions will be read and worked on!

it should come with a complementary headband too, and blasting MIDI's on each kill +1

First off, usually I wait a bit to make a reply on applications to scope it out, but I needed to make this reply the instant I finished reading. Capesh is a FANTASTIC player, a good person OOCly and his roleplay always brings a smile to my face. This sprite looks like it would fit right in, as well as just generally looking amazing! I really really really want to give this higher praise, but my brain is shutting down for the evening and I am locked to a +1. So uh, a big +1 from me.

BYOND Key: Geeves Game ID: First round: The one before bTY-dzQW. Second round: bTZ-b3wZ. Player Byond Key: Artur_lang Staff involved: First round: None, but I think Coalf and Voltage might've seen it? Maybe? I'm not sure. Second round: Abo maybe? Not sure here either. Reason for complaint: I'm sort of posting this on behalf of the rest of the players of those rounds, as I usually dislike complaints and/or complaining. [That was written up yesterday, today, after the second round, I'm miffed as well.] Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Nope, I was in the middle of antagging and was in the middle of the flow, not wanting to break it. I assume the others were the same. Hindsight is 20/20, ain't it? Approximate Date/Time: First round: 20/21 April 2018, Around midnight. UTC +2 Second round: 21 April 2018, 04:20. UTC +2 I've spoken to some other players and all of them agree that Artur is a mediocre antag. Every single time I've played with them, the level of RP seemed to drop down to rediculous levels, and in some cases, the round was ruined. For the first round, noteworthy examples include: Not working with their team, and reducing the quality of the round as result thereof. Cutting TComms after we repeatedly told them not to, effectively ending all RP. After Ghost ([mention]Gollee[/mention]) got captured after going out alone to fix TComms (which is a eh move in its own), Doom went out to save them heroically, leaving Maverick ([mention]AmoryBlaine[/mention]) Blaine and Razor (Me) behind. Naturally, he got captured as well. For the second round, my internet was incredibly unstable, so take this with a hint of salt [heh]. Generally acting like being an antag means you don't have to RP as much, in my opinion. I was negotiating with the Chief Engineer, Ayden Pennington (@Tailyos) about cloning the fallen raider. We agreed to stow our weapons but Doom did not. They marched into medical with their hardsuit deployed and weapons on their back and in hand (if I remember correctly, might've just been hand). After Pennington asked me a few questions, I was allowed to go. Doom was then asked a simple question and proceeded to run into maintenance, sparking a manhunt and almost blowing our cover. Claiming something against robots? (There was a Sec Borg standing near Pennington) In both instances, it left the Raider team wanting to leave him for dead. This is pretty poor antaggery, and would like to see it improved.

Looks great! As you're going to improve on what's here (and it's great already!), ya git my +1.
-
It definitely is an interesting take on station-bounds. We've got a bunch of whacky ones and I'm relatively sure something like this will fit. I like the story behind it too, and the coffin thing fits with the whole sprite. One thing I would like to see though, is an uploaded .gif so we can see how it would look ingame, before I cast my +1.

[Resolved] Character/Player Complaint - Paris Fawkes
geeves replied to Worthy's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
I would also like to add something. Someone that acts like this likely wouldn't be hired as Security Officer again ICly. OOCly, taking up a slot on a very limited slot job is just an asshatty thing to do, if you plan on getting suspended. I would suggest a move away from a Security department, such as a Cargo Techie. Additionally, Worthy and I spoke to you in LOOC about your character and how negatively we perceive him, which you just brushed off and told us to continue RPing ICly. Honestly, if two people tell you the same thing, it probably means something is wrong. I believe you have the ability to be an excellent player within you, as you've proven to be quite robust, from what I've seen. We just need to chisel out some chucklefuckery and work on your roleplay, and you'll, in my eyes, be quite a great person on-server. E: Aw shit, my first time getting ninja'd on this forum. So you did move Fawkes away from Security, that's a good start. And as far as I know, Fawkes sexually harassed the Warden at the time to be arrested, unless this is a different incident. -
[Accepted] Coalf's Dionaea Application
geeves replied to Coalf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
As the resident official unofficial, unspoken outspoken Dionae boye, I can safely say that Coalf would do amazingly as a Dionae. I was there for the round he took over the other player's Dionae, and I didn't even notice the player had left. He had managed to immerse himself into the character so much that it was almost impossible to see that he didn't even have the whitelist from an outside view. He played it extremely well and I was quite surprised that he could. One thing I'm not sure about is that lore-wise Nymphs need to merge with other nymphs to form a gestalt, not just gather biomass. But that's up to the loredev to decide. Minor issue, can be fixed. Coalf was one of the first people I encountered in my time at Aurora, and he's one of the reasons I stuck with it. His RP is superb, his humor is fantastic and he's one of the most creative people here. I fully support his application and can't wait for him to join as the fourth Dionae on the server. Okay maybe four is too little, sixth Dionae, eh? +1
