1. The initial version of my draft was called Impersonation and covered posing as another person in general. However the nature of IPCs and tagging is rather specific and their social status is different from the status of other species. So i ditched the general regulation in favour of regulation covering synthetics specifically to reflect the unique nature of the issue and booted it up to red infraction to reflect the lower status of IPCs and also warrant HuT. It is reasonable for NT to HuT stray IPCs to pass them to Biesel law enforcement however the same punishment for a guy who stole an ID and wore it with a mask seems a bit excessive to me. Also can someone elaborate on as to why aren't non-shells tagged in our code? I want to make it clear that holding until transfer should only be for repeat offenders, not for those who resist the tag upon first being found without one before we fall down that slippery slope. Not saying you implied it, I just want to catch it before there is a possibility of it becoming a trend. Also, since IPCs (and their employers/owners) are canonically fined for lacking or resisting being tagged, an option to pay the fine (say, 750 credits?) instead of receiving a tracking implant should be added. If they repeat the offense, they should still be implanted with a tracker upon incarceration. Also, unless it's broken again recently, all newly created IPC characters should spawn tagged by default, shell frame or not.
2. Just to start off, it is Tau Ceti law that all IPCs are tagged, not just shell frames. From the "General Synthetics" wiki page: "Artificial intelligence is not considered sentient under any major entity’s laws or constitutions, and even in the scientific field, AI is not considered to be sentient." It was also once ruled under the Tau Ceti Supreme Court that synthetics are not considered under the Republic's constitution and are therefore not subject to legal capital punishment and may be punished freely at the will of their creators. This was before the 2nd antag contest, however, so these two snippets of information will likely change. The current lore for androids becoming IPCs, and IPCs becoming free individuals, indicates that only IPCs are considered sentient and able to purchase their freedom. It is possible to be an IPC and not be a self-owned free individual, however. I do agree that some form of regulation is needed to enforce tagging. Corporate Regulation is written in tandem with Biesellian law (for the most part), though I'm unsure about the addition of a singular regulation that pretty much only applies to IPCs. Specialized regulations directed at only one party are usually avoided, I believe. I would like to get into a discussion with those responsible for drafting regs to see what can be done about it. There are other regulations that apply to IPCs weirdly that I'd also like to discuss, but, those are not the topic of this policy. Perhaps I shall get into touch with a few people about them.
3. Whatever would be easiest and still get the job done. I'm glad this sounds feasible. It's one of the things I'm most excited about and I'd really like it to become a reality. Have to give credit to the people that helped me formulate it into something cool, also. I can also provide you with any peripherals you'd need like sprites. Additionally, thank you everyone so far for your feedback. I'm also glad there are those taking interest in this, be it positive or negative.
4. Your application is still very much lacking in effort and soul. Your application will be denied. I encourage you to try again in the future. Be sure to follow the instructions, and contact me (preferably on discord, Cake#4864) if you have any questions.
5. The Shells will still be tagged upon character creation. I didn't think it was worth mentioning for this reason. Yes, the biogenerator should ideally work by consumption of any food or drink. I'm erring towards only getting charge from food, though. Fixing damages may require a mishmash of surgical tools and welder/cables, depending on the damage. Ideally, should not require a suit cooler, but an EVA suit nonetheless. Even if you're kidding here, any qualms about this can be put to rest by the fact that this doesn't really change how Shells are already expected to behave - just how they appear and how they function, backed up with some new mechanics around them to make them unique from the other IPCs.
6. Before this complaint was even made, I had been receiving complaints about Spanishman's IPC characters. I've concluded that Spanishman is willing to make improvements and probably will. If not, I've also made it clear that a revocation of their whitelist will be considered.
7. You can fancy up an IPC all you want, organs, blood, heartbeats and even sweating, but that doesnt change what they are (Or should be) at the very core. A cold, uncaring machine. Either white, a sort of translucent grey, or white with a hint of yellow. And also, yes. They only appear human on the outside. On the inside, both physically and mentally, they are still a synthetic.
8. Not on organics, no. For two main reasons: 1. to hell, and leave it there, with transhumanism, and 2. lore fluff about neurological grafting to synthetic tissue, et cetera. Edit: answering your second question because I replied to you too quickly. Not sure about lore implementation yet. It could go silently and we could all just pretend that's the way Shells have always been, OR we could come up with some news (or what have you) about how these are brand new, rolling out of [x] company's laboratories. I'm favoring the latter.
9. "I can't lie to you about your chances... but... you have my sympathies." Just going to get this out of the way in advance: yes, this was stolen from inspired by Ridley Scott's Weyland-Yutani synthetics. I desperately seek originality in anything I try to do or implement, but with shells, there are not many directions to go in terms of physiology: you've got what we have now (mystery synthetic flesh draped over a metal body), replicants (synthetic humans, Ridley Scott), and Alien androids (also Ridley Scott). My reasoning for adopting Alien-kind shells is because I personally do not believe that mere synthetic flesh draped over a rigid body provides any sort of believable human form. Another thing before I get started is that none of this is coded - it's all conceptual. The concept may be subject to change depending on mechanical possibility as well as community feedback. We'll just have to see. Some things are probably way heftier to code than others, and I've already been told that some things may require a deal of refactoring certain IPC body behaviors to allow the mechanics to function correctly. Here's what I'm suggesting: Shells are incredibly complex and are pretty much the top-of-the-line synthetic in both behavior, appearance, and technology. They're incredibly expensive and incredibly particular. Instead of a flimsy explanation of synthskin on top of a humanoid body, I suggest actually having to create biosynthetic parts out of available materials such as silicon. Features described below. Organs Organ Functions Mechanics Pretty hefty stuff. What are you thoughts? Would you like to see biosynthetic shells on the station as opposed to the ones we currently have? For coders, what kind of requirements are we looking at here? Feasible? Sane to implement?
10. It's honestly a pretty silly mechanic, anyway. Very gimmicky. I would also much rather see it removed than tweaked.
11. Seconded. Backstory is very vague and feels handwavey. A little more effort in the way of qualifying your character will be required.
12. Your application is incomplete. Please fill out all of the fields (you are lacking "Why you like this character") and be sure to follow the instructions in the previous fields. Character backstories should be at least two paragraphs long and detail the character's history (what made them into who they are today) and how they managed to find a place on the NSS Aurora. Marking as attention needed until then. Please try to amend these issues in a few days time.
13. This is something that can be easily fixed by having half-decent whitelistees. Instead of blanketing the problem by enforcing arbitrary "protect yourself" rules on people (which is already implied by the server rules), you and anyone else should be going to the related species maintainer (currently myself, with kyres1 as a deputy) when you see behavior from an IPC that you consider to be inappropriate. Voting for dismissal.
14. From what I've read here, this is the kind of behavior I would consider low in quality even from a no-name human. As an IPC, you're held to an even higher standard and you are still being caught at a low level. I think it's time for you to re-evaluate what it means to be an IPC in-character, and I intend to get in touch with you personally about this ElChucho.
15. If you’re going to do anything. Anything. Please do not allow ERP. I’m an adult and I can handle erotic themes in-character and discussion of erotic themes, but the last thing I wanna find is Missus Thot, MD, giving some engineer sloppy toppy in a maintenance tunnel. People should be focusing on actual character roleplay and interaction outside of fucking each other. They can do that on another server or in a private chat. I also nominate Schevenigen/Delta. The manager should be someone who’s logical, rational, and not afraid to speak out.
16. This is no more a punishment than cloning is. I fully agree with Alberyk and his reasoning for the current changes. I also fully agree with the idea that more customization should be allowed. I am okay with the current presentation, but more customization either soon in the future or immediately would be way better. Also yes, Alberyk asked me about this before even coding it. It had my support, at least. Can't speak for other lore writers.
17. I will tell you, Eve, that I have not witnessed particularly good roleplay from you the handful of times I've observed or been around you (and that's in a small time period, not spread out). I am not in the business of embarrassing people in front of everyone, so I won't go on about any particular instances openly. I will, however, allude to a time I witnessed you completely drop character and fail to appropriately maintain a roleplay environment for others around you. I have also observed questionable behavior while you were playing as a synthetic. For these reasons, I currently do not trust you to possess an IPC whitelist and uphold the standards I expect of the IPC player base. I am willing to be convinced otherwise, but this will require effort on your part. I encourage you to apply again after you think you've put up this effort, but until then, your application is denied.
18. Lots of what I wanted to say have already been said. We're working (and have pretty much finished at this point) to reform policies on bound androids becoming IPCs. Voting for dismissal.
19. Allegedly destroyed. Anyway, application accepted.
20. "Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Sometimes, very little, other times, very much. Depending on the unique code contained within the Positronic Brain that is running each IPC they could be as friendly and personable as any other person or as cold and efficient as a machine." Be careful with this philosophy. Even the most accurate androids do not fully mimic human behavior, the only exception being shells. I see that you're also still fairly new to Aurora station, so I'd like to test you a little bit. Can you provide an example of conflict between an artificially intelligent robot and general biological society? Do you understand a synthetic's place in the world? Could you describe it?
21. I fail to see how that's a relevant issue with IPCs in command positions. Just like stupid human characters are smacked for being heads of staff, so too will IPCs. The standard is the same.
22. What they said here. Recommendations are no longer required, and G2 industrials plus Bishop frames are barred from the HoS position. IPCs whom are placed above organics are probably scrutinized a lot more by other characters IC. It's easier to jump in with a no-name HoS human than even promote a well-known IPC to HoS or HoP. Alas, they still exist, just in few numbers. Given time this may change.
23. Hello. I apologize for the delay in your application. I also do have some bad news for you. Your application will be denied, mainly because I don't believe you really have an appropriate or suiting perspective on synthetics. There are a few lore-breaking elements, as well as a general feel of "too good to be true." First, "She repeatedly requested permission to self-improve from Nisreen's father..." This is not even possible, especially not with virtual intelligence. Virtual intelligence is capable of maybe learning things through repeated exposure and error, but it can never specifically want things on its own volition. It has no volition. "When positronic brains were invented using Skrell technology..." That's not how that happened. The first AIs were activated in 2437 using Skrellian algorithms. Then, came the positronic brain, then the IPC. The way you've written it seems to imply that Celes was a positronic brain from the beginning or... I don't even know, to be honest. You didn't really provide a good timeframe for when exactly Celes received its first positronic brain, or even when it became an artificial intelligence. A few other things: IPCs do not need to go to school. In fact, synthetics do not need to go to school, period. Education for synthetics is either being manufactured with the knowledge required, or gaining it through an accelerated course where they are then tested in their ability to perform said tasks and judged based on their outcome. The real world is also ripe with conflict, especially for synthetics. If conflict is to be included in your backstory, it cannot be as pitiful as "they didn't share the same class and were lonely for a while." You are encouraged to apply for the whitelist again in the future, but I also encourage you to make it your first priority to restudy any information you've read, and to actively seek out any information that you haven't. Take a swing at the IC galactic news section and poke around at all the updates from the past involving synthetics, observe some IPCs while they play during rounds. One last thing - I care less about your sexuality than how your breath smells, even in the footnotes where you sought to mention it twice. I especially do not care about it in whitelist applications.
24. Machines are manufactured in a world where there exists scarcity. Manufacturing with scarcity in mind means that waste should be minimized and costs brought down to a manageable level. It is much easier to program a computer to know, "this is what damage to your chassis looks like, sustaining damage to your chassis is bad," instead of giving every single one some weird system of electrodes that mimic neurons which provide the exact same negative stimulus as if it were experiencing pain. Even for shells, this story is the same - there's no reason to do it. Programming it to know damage is bad is much easier. A lot of people have already said what I'm thinking on the note of "I don't like the idea of giving robots pain" so I'll try to take my explanation a different route. Let us entertain a few concepts. Have you ever been shot in the chest? If you haven't, then you don't know what it feels like. If you've never eaten pizza, you can't describe the taste. Nor can you describe the color red to anyone who's never observed it. I already know what you're thinking here, "But humans know what other humans experience because they're the same species" or some other version of this. This is called "consensus reality." You can never truly know what another one thinks or feels, because they cannot accurately describe it to you and you don't know for sure if what they feel is also the same as what you feel, so humans generally agree that it's the same due to certain similarities. Some might not accept that due to the subjectivity that machines are "inherently different" and yes, they probably are. The fact of that matter is, it's not really relevant enough to even consider manufacturing them with such a trait. They are aware enough to not damage themselves or other people just by moving, perform their job safely, and understand what weapons even are. I don't understand why the idea of "damage to living beings may cause pain, both are bad" is lost on any artificial intelligence.
