  1. As someone who has never fallen down the elevator shaft unintentionally... I have to ask: How the heck does this keep happening? Also my bet is falling off the asteroid.
  2. I understand that, but immediately jumping to shoot on sight looks bad to us. I am not saying you did something wrong, just stating my perspective. Personally as a head I usually tell them to detain. The verbage matters a lot. Detain on sight usually at least means an attempt to speak will be made. Shoot on sight means, well, we get what we got there. Security see raider, shoot raider. But that is just my style. I wasn't a fly on the wall to your round, and can't possibly make a judgement on your actions because my only significant interactions with you was us trying to turn each other into jelly. I'm just trying to make sure everything is laid out so the people who will get the full perspective are better informed.
  3. I don't know that I am wild about the use of refused there. I don't remember most anyone reaching out to try and speak to us. The common channel was available for awhile, and since you ordered security to shoot all of us on sight, that meant from our other teams' perspective you basically decided there would be no talking before it had even begun. And we had no real idea why, just that Security decided to kill us on sight now. In-fact the only member of the crew we had any extended conversation with that I can remember is @Dark1Star's officer, after we had killed and maimed enough people that the station was at our mercy, while both sides essentially licked their wounds. Also thank you for clarifying about the hand tele. That makes a lot more sense.
  4. To clarify, do you mean that by the literal definition? I assumed the Captain had winded around through the tunnels. He ran south of me after the fight near interrogation, and I figured scooted into the tunnels. The briefing room blast door sometimes acts as one of the few that doesn't go down. I am fairly sure in this case it was one of them, because I remember using it to get in, or at least wrenching it open with the fire axe. (Which would keep it open unless power shuffled again.) If he literally teleported in and the blast door was down, I can see why it wasn't attempted to run through the back. Neither of you could have known that we just wanted the ID and had little interest in killing, although I will say that the crew shot first, and I remember the Captain saying something in the security channel that basically made it clear talking wasn't on the table at all, which wasn't a good look from my perspective. Since we had split into two teams, it was pretty hard to organize against us, which made the round very chaotic, but @IAmCrystalClear could better elaborate on how well the escalation was done, since I believe they were one of the Vox in the team that got shot at first. Or at least witnessed it.
  5. This is pretty much my argument for 'putting the wagon before the horse' here. Expedition development is pretty stagnant it seems, and I have a feeling that would change if expeditions were seen more than never. Hell, I'd argue as far as role specific content goes, the scouts still have more content than say, Xenobiology. There's a plethora of roles that make their own fun.
  6. As far as a mechanical benefit goes, I have been musing with the idea of them being able to bring back materials and research objects. Expeditions currently have little to offer, but it doesn't have to be that way. Getting expeditions to happen more is largely beneficial to making expeditions better. Why would anyone work on expeditions as of now? They're almost never done. Mining also as a role has suffered from being very tedious and dull for awhile. Most miners stop doing their job after the first or second haul, and it's usually entirely to get their goodies. So why don't we make the gameplay loop for mining actually fun? What if expedition sites were rich with material for miners? I think it's worth considering that away sites could be a lot more than just a rare roleplay experience.
  7. Yep. There's one under the table in there too.
  8. I do it if I am feeling bored. It gives me a reason to enter a department and interact with them. I'd also do it if the AI asked me to and I wasn't busy.
  9. I am torn. I think tan? But I like both of them. Maybe tan with gray pants so the blue pops more? Both look nice.
  10. There are actually two vents. Both hidden under tables. I know this because I have smashed rats coming out of them.
  11. Issue I have with this argument is Rangers often will be in EVA, or otherwise in space suits. I can buy this for being on-station, but for going out in suits sleeker, insulated clothing makes a lot more sense. Real astronauts wear something fairly similar to a jumpsuit when they are suiting up. Considering this might also be used on planets with hostile fauna, it might be a good idea for their jumpsuits to be a deep blue, red, white, or orange. Current day, their jumpsuits look more like some really hot one piece pajamas, but that has surely been improved with the improvements to material research.Basically the 'ideal' uniform for rangers out in the field would probably be low drag, low snag, with strong insulation for a variety of environments as well as improved survival in space should they have a suit leak or other mishap. And probably a distinct color that does not commonly occur naturally and would stand out among local plant life or on an asteroid. But their 'dress uniform' which would be stationside stuff, could be anything. NASA uses their flight suits basically as a dress uniform, seen here: So perhaps their dress uniform should be something that at least looks practical for their primary job. (For us that'd be exploring away sites, lore wise who knows.) The park ranger aesthetic is cute, but I do agree that it clashes a bit. And I'll admit I'm a bit biased towards sleek 'futuristic' designs too.
  12. You don't need to be listening in to the security channel to correct bad behavior. When I am doing this, it is almost always something I personally witnessed.
  13. Expected and do are unfortunately not always the case. I honestly don't have much issue with most heads stepping into Security when there is no HoS because Security needs the most micromanagement of any department, and I would expect whitelisted players to be pretty familiar with regulations. Plus regulations are very simple to learn icly, so it's reasonable every head would know them decently. I'm not saying my CMO is going to go in and tell Security how to engage in combat, but she will order them to stop hurting people if they are stepping over the line, or ask them to chill out if they are being overzealous. As I said, it is often very difficult to get Security to arrest itself without head authority. Anyone who has played a civilian role in, well, any recent memory, should be able to attest to that. We have a lot of good players now who will police the other officers, but they aren't always around, and I'm still of the opinion that head's should be able to fix it icly without having to enact captain authority, provided there is no HoS. Same as I am fine to let orders go to any department without a head. Going over the current head is a big no-no, but if there is no head, I don't have an issue with a head stopping obviously wrong things.
  14. I do want to clarify that I don't think he really came back for more in the briefing room, but that he was trying to help Summer who was in there. They both then tried to go through the front door, which is where I was with an axe. I am willing to assume that's just a simple mistake rather than them goofily trying to rush me again. As far as I know they should have been able to leave through the back door, and Summer ran away. The Captain got in a fight to the death with me with a telebaton while I was wielding a fire axe. Had he thrown his ID and ran I would have gladly left him alone. I let Summer run without an issue, because Summer wasn't trying to fight me anymore.
  15. I take it back. I like the current ones.
  16. It isn't. I think you would benefit from reading the regulations page a bit more thoroughly. Confiscating equipment is standard. I was being nice and going to let you keep it even though regulations say you shouldn't. Confiscation does not always mean you don't get it back. Although you won't get it back that shift, flavor-wise what usually happens is it's returned to you when you board the Odin provided you can legally own it. Regarding politics, I have no idea why you brought up modern day ones, but in-game NT has an image to uphold. An officer yelling out slurs and not being punished would look extremely bad from a PR standpoint.
  17. The regs exist, but are rarely enforced without captain level authority, partially defeating the purpose. It's very hard to get officers to arrest each other unless it's very flagrant, or there's the threat of breaking a valid order. I do still think it would be better if it just respected the presence of current heads. Also a Bartender cannot arrest people. Security tends to need reigning in the most of any department when they get overzealous. I say this as a security main.
  18. Hey, I play Mia. I think there's some base confusion here on your part. Suspensions are not exclusively handed out based on regulation breaking. A suspension can technically be handed out for any decent reason, but if you don't believe me, let's see what the Wiki has to say about suspensions. "Suspensions are used to temporarily suspend an employee from active duty, restricting them from holding any station rank. They are typically used in situations where an employee can no longer be trusted to continue their work." This is relevant because you were being openly xenophobic. A large part of the crew was aware of this. For most roles this isn't a particularly big problem, but Security Officers are held to much higher standards for that, especially contractors who have less leash than regular employees. I consulted with the Captain beforehand about your suspension, and we both agreed to the suspension because it would be difficult for the crew to trust an officer that had very open, unapologetic biases. How can I trust you to fairly treat Tajaran and Vaurca suspects when you refer to them by slurs? I can't. If you want to be xenophobic as an officer, you need to be more subtle about it. Think about it this way: If you were at work, got drunk, and started yelling slurs, do you think you would keep your job? I can nearly guarantee you that you wouldn't. Regarding your uniform, I explicitly told you several times you could keep it. Although it is worth noting it is more correct for me to confiscate it. I was trying to be nice here because Mia did not want to humiliate you. If you don't believe me, once again the Wiki states this: "Demotion and dismissal also require the removal of equipment from the previous job. E.g: Uniforms, weapons, bombs, PDA cartridges, etc." I told you that you could keep the uniform if you promised to change out of it once you left the brig, you refused. I told you that I would provide you with clothes so you could change here, you refused. Many HoS's would not have been as patient as I was with you. I also would like to note you were not wearing the correct uniform. As a contractor you are supposed to be wearing your contractors' uniform at all times. After I had asked and then told you upwards of five times, you insisted still on keeping the uniform. I even tried to tell you that we would let you use the bathroom to change, because again, Mia did not want to humiliate you. Frankly I do not understand how much more you could want. I almost never suspend people, I take no pleasure in it. If you had expressed remorse at any time we likely would have dropped it, but you didn't. I will also mention that most HoS players would also charge you for drinking on the job. Once you work with a few other HoS's I think you will start to realize I am likely one of the gentler ones.
  19. Heya, I was here for this round and can add to something that happened later, which I want to get to in-case someone else reports it before me. I played Fang Xun, my Chief Engineer. For most of the round Fang had little interest in the documents that were being contested, and focused on keeping her staff safe from the questionable visitors, permitting some armaments so long as they stayed within Engineering, of which we fortified for our protection since the antagonists had already broken into several areas and departments. Where Jesse gets involved is when Mei tells everyone that Unity has held her at gunpoint and stolen her ID. Fang came to check it out, and backed up when they saw Unity was heavily armed, waiting for Security to show up. Jesse shows up, Unity complies and lets him arrest her, then Jesse kicked her head once since apparently she had been antagonizing him a lot that shift. Fang and Mei were both pretty mortified by this, and immediately voted to suspend him and hand Unity over to other ISD members that could be trusted not to abuse her. @SHODAN Can attest that the escalation was reasonable given the events of the round. Jesse refused to stand down since he was acting on direct orders from Central, of which Fang and Mei had not seen, and were loathe to believe after he abused a peaceful prisoner in front of them. A simple IC issue. The only concern I had was that Jesse's player did not seem to fully understand how IPC's relate to regulations, specifically owned and free IPC's. I am not sure if that was a misunderstanding or something, but I am confident they understand the difference now if they had not prior. I wanted to post this even though I felt it was reasonable because I believe Spider has good intentions, and is committed to improvement. I would urge staff to please keep this in mind when reviewing the complaint. Thank you.
  20. That assuages a lot of my fears. Thank you. Sorry for acting aggressive.
  21. I'll retract the suggestion then. I would still like examine to leave a hint about swapping to common, though.
  22. The mercenary headset defaults to common last I checked. So it should probably be uniform.
  23. Sure, but it shouldn't be a situation to start with. (Also for particularly hated characters this is not as unlikely as you think. Malik before he got fired is a good example.) Also does not prevent the other situations I mentioned. Again, with this rule, we have to constantly invoke directive 2 in order to reign in security. As someone who primarily plays non-security heads of staff I hate this. One of the jobs of a whitelisted player is to fix players doing very bad things, like Security being overzealous, roboticists creating death machines for no reason, etc. I should not have to invoke directive 2 to do so. If I wanted to be the Captain, I would ready up as the god damn Captain. Please leave the chain of command alone. I would rather QM be a head of staff than this.
  24. I... what? That makes no sense at all. So if I have security trying to arrest a Wizard, as an RD, I have to asert acting Captain to tell them to stop? That's pretty bad. We're going to see a lot more acting captains if we do this. Also, this will mean an HoS can no longer order a department to let Forensics in to handle a crime scene. A CMO cannot order a scientist to let the paramedic into xenobiology. HoS cannot order you to open so that they can deal with dangerous people. This is a really bad idea. If there is no HoS, there is nobody to reign in security if they are acting poorly, unless you go through the process of electing an acting captain, and then you still have to argue with them that you are and often verify this. A much better change would be that a head's order for the department is not valid unless there is not a fit-for-command head for that department already. So the HoS can't go over the HoP's head, etc. This has not been a significant problem until now, and I see no reason this should not stay an IC problem. Heads are already susceptible to being arrested for abusing their powers icly, and can also have their whitelist stripped for it. This is not a common enough issue that such a large change needs to happen.
  25. Very odd. Maybe it should be like this by default, then? I'll adjust the OP to reflect this.
