  1. @Marlon Phoenix - Yeah, I can see how that could be enjoyable. I mean, it could be semi-consciousness/altered state of consciousness. How possible is it for hearing to be muffled except in their headset or when someone is close to the cell? Ah, but a biogel or bactatank change to the cryocells could be good, especially if it involves putting a breath mask on the patient or plugging the rigsuit in via injection ports to allow breathing inside. Medical mains? Would this mean a new chemical added to the current cryocells idea? Or would it mean a complete rework of cryocells to make them more like bactatanks/biogel tanks?
  2. True. Still going to argue for being able to see and/or hear, even if it puts them in suspended animation. The biggest problem with cryos in the discussions to remove it is this unconsciousness for "blah" amount of minutes. If they can hear passively, at least they're still in the round. It's an rp killer otherwise. Cryocells are rarely used and when they are, things are really bad, medical needs those extra few minutes to handle multiple patients. That's usually the most exciting part of the round, I suggest not removing players from it. Let them hear.
  3. Alrighty! Thank you for the feedback! First off, the cryo cell is about -200 degrees celsius, super popsicle cold, depending on the temperature it is set to. Present day cryogenics are unable to achieve that safely due to the cells in the body expanding and dying when frozen. So, already cryogenics are not realistic as those temperatures should kill the patients. Fortunately, they found a way in the future to fix it, because this is a sci-fi game and doesn't have to be realistic. :3 Second, there are a number of higher brain functions required to realize you're floating in a cryocell (spatial awareness, recognition & self-awareness), come to the decision that you want out (planning and decision making), remember where the cryocell eject button is (access long-term memory), find it with your fingertips (fine motor skills, recognition of objects), and then having the strength to press the eject. This series of thoughts and actions means that people in cryocells are already using higher functioning. But the eject button is a mechanic, so I would argue why can this not be, too? Third, if the problem is with them being able to emote/move, then I would change my suggestion to be that people in cryocells at least be able to see or hear passively, could be one or the other. It could also help medical staff with figuring out when their problem with a patient's brain has been repaired, as it may have caused them to go unconscious, the mannitol/cryomix fixed their brain, and then they woke up in the cell. Vs, taking them out of the cell prematurely, checking if they wake up, scanning them, putting them back in.
  4. Yeah, it definitely would not be comfortable. But at least being able to see and hear would be a vast improvement to floating in a void for however long it takes to fix that genetic damage or finish surgery on the other critical patient. & Yeah, you can escape cryopods, but it takes a few minutes.
  5. There's a lot of debate around cryo cells and a common thing I see is "it takes people out of the round". Being forgotten in the cryo, not being able to see or hear anything around them, is something I have to agree really sucks about the cryocells. So, how about a small change? Make it so that cryo does not force patients into unconsciousness? Instead, let them stay conscious. Let patients still be able to hear and see things around them. It would be very cold, so cold they might have trouble with fine motor skills like typing on a PDA. And with their lungs full of cryomix, they wouldn't have the air to say anything. But at least emotes, sign language and maybe Skrell's telepathy could be possible. It might open up more possibilities for rp, too. I shall leave this for the brilliant coders and community to discuss. :3c
  6. I like the design, but can they please be brightly colored like before?
  7. Love the color and that little zipper detail. o:
  8. Uhhhh, how about instead of removing Station Engineer, you add another title? Station mechanic, as Prate suggested, maybe? Or as you initially planned, make Maintenance Technician the standard. Whatever the case, change the default because new players might just default to it anyway, and let the engineering department keep station engineers as an alt title? Then it's chief engineer, their engineers, [insert new standard here], and technicians (the specialized titles). I get that IRL it does not quite line up. But "engineers" in games, in sci-fi settings are a quick and easy title for "THEY BUILD/FIX/DESIGN/MAINTAIN". I mean, the definition of engineer (noun) is: 1) a person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or structures. 2) a person who controls an engine, especially on an aircraft or ship. & 3) a skilful contriver or originator of something. Think about Engineers in Star Trek "And they probably redesigned the whole sickbay too! I know engineers. They love to change things." (Bones, Star Trek). As the Trek wiki explains it: engineers were responsible for maintaining and repairing all the systems on starships, space station(s), and other related equipment. Or, another sci-fi setting: Star Wars Engineers: "An engineer was a person involved in construction, design, or the use of engines or machines... Starship engineers were members of a starship's crew who maintained the ship's systems... In combat, the engineer could reroute power to increase speed or shielding, and repair or jury-rig battle-damaged systems." In other words, when the junk hits the hyperdrive, engineers repair, maintain and keep it going. Or how about Space Engineers, from the game SPACE ENGINEERS: where it's all about engineering, construction, exploration and survival in space and on planets. Or heck, what about a non-sci-fi example: the Engineer from Team Fortress 2. He designs, builds, fights, deconstructs, loves his turret baby. Point is, language evolves and generally, when talking about Engineers in games and sci-fi, Engineer is an easy and reliable way to say "the person who designs, builds, maintains, repairs and deconstructs the STATION/SHIP". Please leave the Engies in Engineering.
  9. It serves no purpose other than to instantly gib someone and it has been abused lately. No rp, just flash and gib. Maybe instead, they have to chant around it, make it a cool sacrifice thing, THEN gib?
  10. +1 a good player and roleplayer, with some fun and interesting characters! Sterben, Copperfield and Flamel are good command characters and I am eager to see them again.
  11. A big +1 from me. Fantastic and interesting characters, with fun quirks that make them each individual. Have to agree with nienna, Sabela and Senan are my favorites. I look forward to seeing how they rp an unathi.
  12. +1 this. There are already two chef slots and bar gets way more patronage on average than kitchen. Plus, the rp when there are no patrons could also be way better with two bartenders.
  13. I really miss the yellow and purple colors of Cargo & Mining. It's a brown and grey combo, and lacks noticeable differences between mining and cargo. Mining is only slightly darker. Compare that to the brown-yellow and purple of old mining, and grey and yellow of old cargo, these muted browns are sad and desaturated. They look like darker assistants. Please bring back color to cargo, bring back yellow and purple. Please!
  14. Still remember that time a shitter broke into medical sublevel maintenance, came out of the secret entrance in the long-term patient care and tried to kill my character. Sammo was there, calling for sec and fighting them off. Samara cares for folk a lot, for what's right and fair, even if she doesn't know the person well, and will fight for what she believes in and cares for. It is her strength and her flaw.
  15. I was emagged as maintenance drone and told to "cause chaos". Didn't know what that meant, so I ahelped "is it ok if I just rip up floor tiles, furniture and lights?" or something like that. Get the ok. Proceed to rip up every single floor tile from aft hallway, to central, to medical and to the bridge. Ripped out a bunch of lights along the way and completely dismantled all the furniture I found (not computers/equipment), including the captain's office. I was chased by crew, especially the engineers and doctors who reeeeally hated my tile ripping. I fixed a few breaches caused by the more extreme maintenance drones... then ripped up all the floor tiles while the room refilled. Good times. Should probably mention I went through security too, and I revisited areas I had been through. Even ripped up tiles RIGHT BEHIND people putting the tiles back, only to be chased out.
  16. You are amazing, so fast! Thank you so much! I am really hyped for Miners, QMs and HoPs all over the server. 8D Cannot wait to test it out!
  17. Yeah, probably. So either the smelter or stacker maybe?
  18. Thanks! I appreciate it. & Additional to my idea: The scanner might be better than the stacker idea, since resetting could be tricky but also could separate crates and scan individually. Also, there might already be code that does the crate scanning, since when you sell crates of materials via cargo shuttle you can see the details on the cargo console of what was sold and for how much. I don't know, but I am very curious.
  19. You know that thing, the Yield Declaration, that almost no miner ever wants or does do? The times I have been asked for one, the individual tends to demand them forcefully, which creates a fun little IC conflict. But Yield Reports are kind of unpopular and for good reason. I can see why miners don't want to sit around, counting what's in every pile, when some loads they bring in can be enormous. Especially when they could be roleplaying or happily getting their chill on, smashing rocks instead. So, I was wondering if it would be possible for the stacker to count yields instead, which Miners can print off and reset when their load is done. Or maybe create a tool for miners where they can just click on a full crate and it counts what is inside it, then they can print that out and attach to yield reports. Either would make yield reports a more fun and easy alternative to what they are at the moment. Coding wise, I do not know how easy this would be and would defer to those with experience.
  20. Oooh, rolling camera feed distortions through departments due to Ion storms would be great. Antags could take that as an opportunity to run places they shouldn't with the randomized ones or even cause FDs themselves. Can't some antags fake announcements? They could fake an ion announcement too. And departmental camera hubs would be cool. CMO, HoS, RD, CE, Captain, HoP offices. Maybe even QM.
  21. +1 Already said, I kinda love this. Would be a fun roleplay mechanic. An airlock with random FD could be baaaad news when someone needs inside/outside quickly in medical emergencies, so maybe not 5 minutes. Maybe shorter. Also, Ion storms could make FD worse?
  22. I kind of love this idea. No more panic "camera is gone!" but instead "ah, it's glitching again".
  23. 1) Do you agree with removing the AI roundstart? It's still possible to build the core and put an active brain in it later on, with qualified personnel. I don't agree with this. No more malf: some malf rounds are horrible, but then there's the memorable ones, where they don't go for delta and instead involve the crew in roleplay. I would miss those. & Qualified personnel: removing them from start means relying on science to have the materials, know-how, ambition, and time, in a possible antag round, to build a core and upload them properly. Maybe a change in server rules or AI Laws could fix things a little better than removing from start of round? 2) The additional cyborg spawn. I heard complaints that three cyborgs at roundstart is one too many. Please let me know what you think. Pretty neutral on this.
  24. I think they look washed out from that in-game screenshot and look way more like Off-worlders. So instead of washing out, can I offer alternatives? I doodled this in like 5 minutes. Could even lighten 50/50 a little more. If I knew how the skins were shaded, I would test that on these too. Basically, just add more pink/blue and lighten original, or, go 50/50 on the old and new for less washed out.
  25. Cnaym has fantastic characters, they're each so different and fun to interact with. IC and OOC the player enhances rp and understanding for others, while driving and involving themselves in stories. I heartily agree that they are a solid 8/10 roleplayer, if not more! Poor little Rin. ("little", heheh) To come from so little, become a Guwan, and then be found by Aut'akh and the Mesh! Happy little Rin. The need to interact with others, learn about them, will open a LOT of roleplay opportunities. I mean, A LOT! Imagine walking up to a really quiet character and slowly unraveling their backstory, finding out why they're quiet and offering them friendship. Heck yeah! I really hope to see them in game soon! A MASSIVE +1!
