  1. If you can spread that across a 2,000 page essay at least twice a month if asked, then we have a starting point to work off of. Next, you're a Sol worker who just lost all of his money due to mathematical error in some system. What company do you blame? Keep in mind, you still have a fifty/fifty, two multiple choices, and a mobile shout-out available.
  2. No pressure, but getting this question wrong shows you haven't even put a minimal amount of effort into learning about the companies.
  3. Interview question. Totally official. 100%. You're the CEO of Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals. How much do you love Skrell?
  4. I think we all need to take a moment and listen to spongebob. Let's all be smart and bring it off.
  5. Met him once as a waterboy. Terribly nice guy. Wish I had more time to chat with him. Got distracted. He's got potential. Arcbot may or may not be ready for a whitelist now, but I think he's got the stuff to shape up and get one down the line. At the very least, I thought he did alright RPing the one time I got to see Tom Albright IC. Take some time to RP from different angles for a few months and I bet you'll get more praise.
  6. Balderdash. All races are inferior until they do something scientifically useful or cool. Like help invent cloning or the piano. This was clearly an inside job. #SkrellDidBreachers In all seriousness though, this isn't awful. First two words out of my mouth were in fact "Do it."
  7. Oh hey. So. As much as I love posting exactly two words into a thread, I should probably elaborate. We had talks in the not so distant past about making some custom hardsuits for races other than the Loreking's pet project, so that's where this all sorta spawned. I'm super into the idea of having a Federation-brand hardsuit that we see OCCASIONALLY if ever at all. Like how we should in theory never see a real breacher suit. The sleek white design we have on-station is presently used for nothing and I've seen the custom edits for Skrellian helmets used so rarely that I've asked a dev if they really exist. Seriously. I see a dozen times more space suits custom-edited for Space Cats and Reptillians than I ever have for Frog People. I think the fact that the clan-driven race that had essentially no space-experience before meeting aliens should not have made their own OP spacesuit basically within a year of first contact. I think said OP suit should be less OP simply because it's ludicrous. I think it's silly that the Tajara should have a space-suit that strengthens their already impressive speed-buff, but I'm more likely to believe that they made than in fifty years rather than the Unathi who made what is essentially a personal space-worth tank in one or two years with, according to the loreking, no outside help at all. I'm also inclined to believe that an OP Skrell suit would be more OP because of the whole "spess frog" thing, but I'm more than capable of admitting my bias and "dealing with it." And for god's sake, where's all the Human Mech pride? Based space-age has made anime real, and we barely talk about it. These suits are silly, poorly balanced, and make me scared of the dark. But if they are going to happen, I want my snowflake guard to be able to beat up Jackboot's snowflake guard. #NukeMoghesAgain #NukeAdhomaiAgain
  8. What if none of my cats are snowflakes with tragic war stories or flashbacks to military service? Is this poll not for me?
  9. This application makes me feel emotions.
  10. Let the record show that Operation Vaginas is basically canon, as the Overseers of 2/3 involved parties fucking love parts of it. Unless of course we don't, in which case I'm lying.
  11. This application alone has completely ruined my game of "How Many Nanakos are there now?" Basically, I resolved to avoid writing down the names of any of the Nanakos and simply try to keep a mental count. It was a fun way to spend time. First time it came up, someone said there were two because they'd noticed the Sec Nanako or "Secako" if you will. I was able to correct the confused party by proving the existence of an engineering Nanako or "Engiko" alternatively. I'll be frank, I haven't taken great joy in the character concept since Janitoko started cutting down on Mediko's screen-time. I heard one interesting theory that it was possible that all of the Nanako's were just the same Nanako. This resulted in the idea of an Infinity Nanako or Infiniko. This quickly became my headcanon and ended with the answer to "How many Nanakos" being "one". But yeah. Since Magojiro's quickly gone from being an intern that knows surgery and chemistry to a nurse who knows only most surgeries and offers to assist virology, I can see her shift to a CMO who knows how to apply bandages as the next natural progression. Real talk, let us see some diversity in your RP, please. Spend a few months experimenting with RP and character designs. Having four characters who share the same first name doesn't inspire confidence. Also, please stop advancing character ages to make them viable candidates for more jobs. That's not exactly a rule, it just sorta makes me cry inside. Like the Titanic. Your character is the Titanic. Please stop making me cry, Jack. You know you both could have gotten on that raft. -1.
  12. It's in the works. Closing and archiving thread.
  13. Hey so new things and new people scare me. Can you pretty please say things to assure me, a member of the audience, that everything will be okay if you're added to the team and that you're "safe"? This can come in many forms. These include, but are not limited to: Witty rebuttals, sincere dialogue, multi-layered quotes, complex fanfictions, prose, a dating-site style rundown of your likes/dislikes/hobbies with bonus points for SS13/lore jokes, or even your own honest thoughts and opinions on whatever. Show the camera some passion, baby! (Alternatively, take it as an interview question. "Why should we hire you?")
  14. I've had the chance to interact with several of Afitz's characters, with Marissa Picard and Nathaniel Moore being the ones I've seen the most of. From what I can tell, he seems to truly care about his characters as well as how they interact with others. Now for the Bio: I like that this character has acquired some solid background in terms of raw facts and emotional development. By going into detail about Marissa's family and schooling, we get an idea of what sort of issues she had to overcome. The utilization of the "dead parent" theme is used tastefully in my opinion. The sudden loss of a loved one lead her to seriously think about her life and seek out greater goals. To me, that sounds entirely reasonable. Losing family will no doubt make most people think things over and, at least in Marissa's case, decide she could do more. My only real gripe with the biography is that the last two sentences feel so rushed in comparison. " She was going to be sent off to practice for another 14 years. She never forgot why she got to the point she was at that day, and she never will." There's a lot of emotion in that last line, but its wording just hits my ear oddly. The short mention of her training period could also use some adjusting. All in all, these sentences get the job done, but I'm just a stickler for details now and then. I can testify that I wasn't all too confident in Afitz's abilities in the past, but anyone's first steps into a new medium can be wobbly. In the months that Afitz has been here, I can say that there has been a definite improvement in his form. Having only taken the time to seriously consider his RP recently, I can say for a fact that he seems more comfortable in SS13 as a medium for RP. TL;DR: He's gotten way better at character work and RP. OOCly, Afitz's answers don't raise any red flags for me and he himself seems to conduct himself well. He's also open to feedback. Gotta love it when people open the doors and say "please insult my work so I can learn." Can Afitz handle a head of staff whitelist? Yeah, probably. Let's see how this goes. +1.
  15. After the second or third case of "NO WAIT DON'T GO INTO ENGINEERING, WE HAVE PLASMA IN THE AIR" resulted in the Jargon Representative taking damage, he and his escort left to go to medical. They had chats with several crew and at sought to kill time by visiting other crewmen on a NanoTrasen station. Lioquix talked with a clever magician (who was claiming to be a diplomat himself!) and a nurse who was seeing to wounded and even helped clear him medically before even leaving the medbay. Because the "display" of the Tesla Engine was clearly not ready in his mind, he sought to kill more time by talking to more NT employees. He strolled around and thanked the person who had cooked for the Ambassadors for the Soy Meat they'd prepared and was about to talk to the nearby officers when his escort suggested they move. In addition to these people, he had a short chat with an officer who seemed terrified by the nearby armed-to-the-teeth escort and tried to explain that the Tup Commando was not only friendly, but a nice guy. He didn't seem too convinced, but hey armed guards are intimidating. He also tried chatting up the new captain shortly after he'd arrived on the station. Seems like the Unathi group was also looking to branch out, but didn't quite get as lucky. At one point the CCIA Lund had to corral both the Unathi and Skrell parties back to the designated waiting zones. Even that wasn't terrible, as the zones seemed to be fairly public places like the bar and the holodeck at times. If this event was 'special people only' then I am happy to report that we've got quite the crew.
  16. I like the bag idea. Would they essentially be stasis bags, but with health-freeze traded for pressure-stabilization? Do stasis bags do that now? Can we currently shove someone in a stasis bag and drag them through space without killing them?
  17. I'm very impressed with this. I can not guarantee that all of these details will be canonized yet, but this is damn fine work. Damn fine. A Skrellian Calendar will be canonized "Soon"trademark thanks to your outstanding application and you can look forward to seeing at the very least a close resemblance to what you've written here. Good show! You've done a Crisp Sexual Tension job, Mofo!
  18. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account:Loow Character Name(s):Alexis Mendoza, Chance Mendoza, Steven Smith [More inactive or in development] AI Name(s): None Preferred means of contact: Discord, Skype, Forum PM, Byond Messenger Age: 20 Timezone: Central Standard Time (GMT -6) When are you on Aurora?:Typically afternoons to nights. Experience How long have you played SS13?:About two years. How long have you played on Aurora:Over a year. Since late 2014. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I have a working understanding of the basic game mechanics as well as seemingly unlimited access to a wiki. On a scale of PDA light activation to supermatter setup, I’m around Solar maintenance and setup. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:None Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?:Not Applicable. The closest I’ve come to being banned was an early event in which I helped a wizard, a staff, and a detective’s pistol become familiar with one another. Tish bwoinked and explained to me the ABC’s of Aurora and that an assistant probably doesn’t know magic-staffs or guns very well. His logic made sense, and I’ve been unrobust ever since. In other words: No bans and I have taken previous staff interaction/criticism/feedback/getting told "hey you're doing it wrong" fairly well in the past. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I got started when a friend showed me the ropes one day, and it’s become a bit of a habit of mine since then. I can’t write novels or books, tabletop groups always fall apart down the road, and I like to write characters (Although they’re not always what I’d call “good” looking back). I play SS13 because I enjoy it. Putting characters through whatever the round brings is a pretty good time. Having those characters develop a bit on the way? Also a nice time. Why do you play on Aurora?: People seem to care here. If memory serves, I first heard about Aurora from a Reddit post about a funeral that happened mid-round for a security officer. Little things like that got me here and kept me around. Although I’ll admit that now I’ve sort of bought into this whole “HRP” thing and Aurora’s still the best place around for it. What do moderators do?:Moderate. Help out any players who seem to need it, respond to Ahelps whenever possible, keep in communication with other staff, and generally keep the wheels turning on the server however they can. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means working as one of the many faces Aurora. The way players see a server is often largely related to how they view their staff. Talking things out and having sound reasoning during a few tense situations may very well make people who are newer to the server think more of it while letting knee-jerk reactions slip you into a fit can make the entire server look bad. Why do you want to be a moderator?:To help out the server primarily. I've been answering these questions out of order for a few days, and I have to say that my answers to some of these other questions phrase it much better than that. I like this place. It helps me get my RP fix and have a good time doing it. It's time I return the favor by helping it run smoothly. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: First off, I'm willing to listen. Input is important, and I take whatever I can get. I see no reason to turn up my nose at free lessons. That's a pretty smooth transition into "willing to learn" too. I'm fine with learning more about mechanics and have been dipping my feet into research as of late. I'm not afraid to admit when I need a hand. If a situation has me stumped or I just don't know what's happening, I am more than willing to bring it up. Communication is sort of a big deal. I also understand that people have their own opinions. Not everyone has to agree with what I say, and that's fine by me. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Pretty well. I'm typically not one to (as Gwen Stefani puts it) "holler back" at someone who's legitimately angry. People are just people, and there's not much point to getting riled up over every little thing or making someone feel more frustrated than they may already be. Worst case scenario, someone on the internet offers a well executed insult. Not too groundbreaking. Anything Else You Want to Add: I've been wrestling with the idea of applying for moderator since applications reopened, but I didn't want to rush into this. I spent some time asking around for tips, advice, and general information on moderating and stopped to think more than a few times. I believe I can put this information and experience to good use. I’ve gone through a beautiful transformation from a newbie curious about HRP to someone who likes to think he can help out when push comes to shove. The way I see it, it's about time I tried helping out around here.
  19. "Employee Integrity" Executive Action Passed Despite Protest You can also hear this article in our radio broadcast! A controversial new bill has been passed by President Joseph Dorn just moments ago. Despite the objections of politicians from all sides, President Dorn has enacted the "Employee Integrity" act without allowing Congress time to formally deliberate its parameters. As it stands, this legislation will prohibit current and future employees of corporate powerhouse NanoTrasen from working for any other company deemed to be a "Mega-Corporation" within the borders of the Republic of Biesel. This document initially came to Congress on the heels of the recent leaks of NanoTrasen intelligence by the so-called Syndicate. While the identity or identities of alleged Syndicate leader Apostle are still largely open to speculation, it is believed that they received support and information from employees of multiple mega-corporations. In order to stop similar acts of industrial espionage from further damaging NanoTrasen and the Tau Ceti economy, President Dorn has opted to bypass the often arduous steps of debate and approval on the Congress floor. Many Tau Ceti Republicans agree with the President's quick decision and see Employee Integrity as a quick method of routing out any potential corporate spies who may still operate within Tau Ceti. As of this moment, it is unclear what fines or punishments will be dealt out to any NanoTrasen employees discovered to be working for multiple mega-corporations.
  20. Broadcast 274 Presidential Election Results: Dorn Stole Your Vote The numbers are in and they smell rotten. You, me, and everyone else in this Republic has been robbed. There's not a soul between Biesel and New Gibson that hasn't seen the sorry state of this economy. Citizens and residents are having their jobs swept from under them just to watch them get snatched up by workers who just hopped off a shuttle on the promise of three Thaller wages and a starry sky. "President" Joseph Dorn has made it clear that he sees hard working humans getting uprooted is just business as usual. He made it clear that he wanted to bring more Tajara into our workplaces without raising their wages closer to a human's salary. PEOPLE! He made it clear that he wants a dirt-cheap working caste to put our family, our friends, even US OURSELVES out of work! I ask you, Tau Cet... Why in hell's name would we, the people he wants to replace, vote a bastard like Joseph Dorn into office? We wouldn't, people. We wouldn't and we didn't. Think back to your time in the voting stations, Cetians. Those machines all had a design on them. It wasn't our flag. It wasn't a serial number. It was the NanoTrasen logo. You may have missed the memo, but NT secured the rights to making our ballot boxes automated, user friendly, and lead straight to a shredder. Establishing the Free Trade Zone. Keeping Tajara and Vaurca wages low enough to hire cheap workers . Proposing a free-movement treaty that would let any new jobs go straight to some kid from Admohai that doesn't know any better. It all adds up. Dorn is so deep in NanoTrasen's pockets that he can probably feel the bulge in Miranda Trasen's pants! ... It's disgusting. Our President cares more about making a percentage for a company than making sure our people have jobs to feed their kids. This isn't the person we voted for, Bieselittes. Make sure everyone knows it. This broadcast was recorded 3.2.2458 in Republic of Biesel space. Opinions stated in this broadcast are not necessarily those of broadcast sponsors.
  21. Broadcast 265 Humans Marry Humans: A Show for ATLAS Votes Our boys and girls in Congress just gave us something new to think on, Tau Ceti. According to this freshly passed legislation, the Republic of Biesel does not recognize marriages between Humans and Xenos. That's right. Just over 70% of the vote landed in favor of the so called "Humans Marry Humans" bill earlier this day. So what does this mean for us, Cetians? How does this impact our daily lives? We hardly have droves of humans who try to seek out marriages with non-humans. Most cases of xenophilia sprout from the odd deep space workplace or occasional bleeding heart activist. Has this trend become common enough that we have to spend floor-time debating it? The numbers are out there, people, and they're not that high. If we look at overall populations, nearly all sapiens keep relationships within their own species. That goes for everyone. S., T., and U. Sapiens included. So why would the Tau Ceti Congress suddenly take an interest in passing legislation on this issue? To answer that, look at what's happening in the universe. What time is always right around the corner for politicians? Voting season. And who just won Sol's voting season? You guessed it! People that like the idea of a politician who draws a line between Humanity and anyone else. Isolationist Chater and GAIA may have won the Alliance, but they stand shoulder to shoulder with Sol-born human supremacist group ATLAS, who also manage to give enough right answers to the Sol people to secure their own footing in Sol politics. Now our own politicians are trying to sell us the Sol brand. They've drawn a pretty little line with this bill and each candidate's shown just where they stand. Our Congress knows anyone who agrees with ATLAS' social views is going to get a boost in votes from a good deal of our Sol-born citizens, so they're hopping onto the fads of old Terra to try and sway the people to vote for them. In eyes of lot of ATLAS supporters, Republicans have been offering too many opportunities for non-humans with their legislation. Republican Dorna Bakers offered Unathi the chance to pledge loyalty and it looks like that privilege may be extended to more soon. The upcoming Republican agenda includes opening relations with Adhomai even further as well. So how does a Republican win an ATLAS supporter's vote? By passing legislation that keeps non-humans separate from humans and making a big show of it. Now what about the Democrats? Are they standing up against Sol influence by denying this legislation? No. No, they are not. The Social Democrats and their party are insistent in their need for close ties to Sol. Many of them are even treacherous enough to suggest going back to life under Sol rule! To them, any bill that falls in line with Alliance politics is as good to them as step toward annexation. The Democrats did not feel a need to impress the ATLAS supporters because they already do stand for rejoining Sol. Republicans? They proposed this bill in the hopes of swaying some of those Sol immigrants toward their side. Even if members of both parties approved the bill, this is their routine now. After this vote, both sides will be competing for voters with ties to Sol or ATLAS. So sit back and watch our Congressmen scramble, fellow Bieselittes. After all, this show is being put on just for you. This broadcast was recorded 2.26.2458 in Republic of Biesel space. Opinions stated in this broadcast are not necessarily those of broadcast sponsors.
