[Accepted] DatBerry's Tajara Whitelist App!
Loow replied to DatBerry's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hey, how's it going? Datberry seems pretty chill OOCly, and shares my hobby of idle bitching when bored, so I figured I should look at his application. This character is, like all characters from a snow-planet, a snowflake. Now let's talk about how that's a good thing in this case. First, he's from the New Kingdom. That's something we hardly ever see in the on-station Tajara. It's not bad that the majority of the Tajara we see are from the Republic, in fact it makes sense, but it certainly seems like we've been due for one of these for some time. It'll be interesting to see how young Meowmix handles the new society. It's a huge change of pace for him and it seems like you've considered the angles quite well. Throwing in my two cents, it makes perfect sense that little Scratcher was born with a Human name. Apparently his dad remembers the Humans coming by and the knee-high kill-cat himself was born after TajaraxHumanity first contact. Still, I'd totally believe he goes by a native name now. It's a really popular trend now. A few of the details you've mentioned say a lot about how aware you already are of the Tajara playstyle. " (sadly this rarely if ever happens ICly so ill just have to RP as if it already happened)" in particular pretty much tells me you "know what's up" so to speak. I'm all for this. Pretty please don't mess it up. +1. -
After waiting the cursory number of 3+ days, reading the posted feedback, and discussing my concerns with Nursie, I can say with some sense of certainty that this is probably an okay idea. I'd like to make it clear that I'm not particularly fond of the possible trend of on-station Skrell spitting in the face of their history, their society, and their own life experiences their entire life in order to make them just so happen to be more accessible to the masses of the alien races they just happened to meet a few decades ago. A good deal of the Skrell population is basically unable to have children and their society places the blame squarely on a synthetic. This is something the Skrell of today would not simply forget, and quite a few of them would even remember living through it. This isn't ancient history. This is not water under the bridge. I'd also like to take the opportunity to remind the class that you don't have to be carving swastikas into computer screens or stabbing IPC's in the prison yard to RP a character who distrusts artificial intelligence. Nursie will likely do fine with this whitelist, but I want to make it clear that she has an uphill battle ahead of her. Nursie summed it up quite well in her application. "this type of character is shit, it's never been done well" but her answers to a few pointed questions and some mild grilling have left me willing to "watch me do it well." Good luck. Application Accepted.

Sorry, m80. I read the question as "can is be xenyoark beclaws lab assistiante extraordinaire b4 but now am doctor!" not "Is working in the field at an introductory level a plausible alternative? I do believe lab assistant work may serve him quite well considering the shortened timeframe." If you mean labwork, then yeppers. I could wrap my head around the idea of a very dedicated Vaurca getting into science. Lab assistant work is slightly less difficult to get into than Xenoarcheology. That's pretty slick, isn't it? Sounds like your drafted story has become more of a "look ahead" for the Vaurca. Rather than being at the end of his character arc, he's relatively close to the beginning. This is sounding excitingly close to montage material! -

This is good! I can't speak for everyone, but I know I appreciate the idea of writing up a new character for Head of Staff. Solid logically and it lets the player scratch that "character work" itch one tends to feel. I saw Tom just a bit and he seemed colorful, but not hostile or disruptive. I bet your new guy'll be fun. That's totally cool. It's not quite the years of experience he had in the original draft, but it's a fair amount of time given the situation the species is in. As in, did your Vaurca adjust to the world universe outside of VR, learn about the local language, begin studying science, and earn a doctorate to be come a xenoarcheologist in a couple months? If that's your question, then nah. That's asking a bit much from the "fish out of water". -

Hey, just tossing out the stuff off the top of my head as the first scrap of feedback. I appreciate the passion into making a band and have been scratching at the drawing board idly mumbling "I should really work on those celebrities..." for some time now. I don't dig that they borrow the name from a band I've listened to, even if that's their shtick. Just a couple comments to get the ball rolling. -
[Accepted] ArcBot's Vaurca Application
Loow replied to ArcBot's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Hi. I actually read the app. Try not to hold that against me. This character is implausible. First contact with the Vaurca was during very late December of 2456. This means that even if he was fast-tracked, hand waved, and immediately ready to work, he still would not have been able to start work with NanoTrasen until a good ways into 2457. It is currently 2458. What's more, xenoarcheology requires a doctorate and other such hoops and occupation qualifications for any aspiring scientist to meet. Your character is effectively "fresh off the intergalactic boat" at this point. Your answers to the questionnaire, while not bad, leave something to be desired. I already adressed the issue of occupation, but I fully believe that you're a fan of this race because of its resistance to pressure changes. It's sort of the mechanic pull-factor of this race. Maybe you should have spent a little more time reading up on the race you're applying for. It's good that you read up on the races and I hope you enjoyed them, but one ought to double check details on anything they apply for on the off chance that a crucial detail was ignored or missed. Pretty much all of the Vaurca in human space live in the Republic of Biesel. I do like that you included the theme of Vaurca being effectively forced to work for NanoTrasen as a means of repaying Tau Ceti for letting them "just crash on our couch for a while". Next, you had another applications quite recently for a Head of Staff position. I know it can be tempting to want to rush in and get a new app done when one gets denied, but I feel like it hasn't been long enough for us to see a major difference in your play-style yet. It's not necessarily a bad thing that this app was close on its heels, but it has me a little miffed. You may remember that I left some feedback on that app that essentially said I think you've got the capacity to improve. You're not terrible and you're not a lost cause. In fact, I believe I downright enjoyed Tom during the one round in which I remember interacting with him. Sadly, I don't have enough experience (relentlessly stalking you) with your RP to give a one up. And that little detail that makes this character implausible makes me unable to give a soft plush one on the application's merits. As it stands, I -1 but still believe you have the potential for greatness down the line. I've just yet to see your montage into greatness. Also please forgive me for saying nice things about you and then putting a minus one. -

Guest503: lol sounds like the money went through. Guest527: Hello. I was curious about your organization. How active are they in Mendell City? -
Well presently all of the departments have some level of check on another. Security looks over the whole to ensure people don't kill each other. Medical heals the whole to ensure people don't kill each other. Engineering repairs the hull to ensure people don't kill each other. Civilian department keeps the rest of the ship moving and populated so people have the opportunity to kill each other. Then there's Command who gives orders to each department and CCIA who come aboard to deal with any reported incidents and push around command on occasion.

Do you mean to point out how the system works now or are you suggesting a change to bring about a system?

I've been training for this. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but try not to get too steamed if you can't come up with as many puns. I don't want to railroad this thread, but I'm something of a pun conductor.

If you want it to be non-memes, that's fine. This may be shocking, but that questionnaire isn't even standard protocol for loredev applications. Yet. -

I was hoping for a comment on the fact that all three of them are relevant to the politics of Tau Ceti, the system our game takes place in. The CEO of NT and the President of the Republic. Skrell guy's just a Representative, so it wouldn't have been to big a deal to miss him. Would have just stroked my ego to know someone read it or at least searched the name of the Representative. Anything else would have been icing. -

You can't fool me with your mind games. This is clearly a game of chicken in which my inner desperation to have people around with ideas and passion will result in a sudden outburst of approval for the application regardless of my simultaneously silly and relevant lore questions. Jokes on you, I only panicked for roughly twenty minutes before realizing this was a clever ruse. -

A man who wants to be the keeper of the company lore doesn't at least give the Oest Gees of the megacorps a mention? Not even mentioning Hephaestus Industries? Nothing on Einstein Engines? You get some points for looking up the obscure Foundation, but take a hit for passing on the chance to expound on the tension caused by NT's sudden jump from biomedicine to making warp-drives just about obsolete. Mentioning the complex nature of their relationship with the Syndicate shows that you've got the capability to think up or accept some fun angles, but that's not the big money you're after. And touching on the Tajara somehow made your score lower. I don't know how that's even possible, but you've done it. You went a mile wide with very little depth. You did however make the 50 word minimum, and that's worth at least a partial mark. Please take this more seriously. Next question. Which of the following three do you ship together in a relationship (platonic, carnal, or other): Miranda Trasen Joseph Dorn Lioquix Jrugl-Wliesh -

The vowel is O. You used a company other than Idris to send the funds to buy this vowel. This resulted in an error that has cancelled the transaction. You are now barred from using the letter "O" in future answers. In 50 words or more, who has more of a reason to hate NanoTrasen? Your answer can be a company, a group, a race, or a pyrofox. Keep in mind, there is a correct answer and all others are incorrect.
