Like, I don't mind the red. It's a nice color, but honestly, those look like they work for Zavodskoi if Zavodskoi ever did anything related to Service. Just with a notably lighter color, instead of Black its Grey, instead of the dark red, its that pinkish-scarlet. I don't see Red with NT, and its probably just because I'm used to associating Blue with it, but honestly, I think it should stay blue. Instead of having Blue be the SCC you could make that pinkish-scarlet the SCC color and keep the Blue for NT. Otherwise, I mean, I'll get used to it. That being said, I really like the Janitor outfits, for both NT and Idris. And that bottom-middle one for NT, all geared up. I assume that's... Cook? I like it.

Sleepy's Command Whitelist - Goldman Time
Zer0Winds replied to SleepyWolf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I stand by saying Aez is a great character, and that they alone make me think that Sleepy should get the Whitelist. -
I've played both Under Caladius, as Service, and as Captain with Caladius, and honestly, I enjoy their character. I haven't been able to see how they do the Dominian Culture while being HoP but I get the feeling from my interactions with them they are probably pretty good with it.

Kane is one of my favorite characters, and I am unapologetically biased to this whole application and I don't even care. He's creative, but you wouldn't even think that if you first hear him. Just another "funny accent man from the frontier" but he's so much more than that. It's awesome. Whitewolf is a great RPer, I truly believe that. However, the backstory is kinda short... It's actually not much of one. Its a blank slate, but one you could improve upon endlessly. What does HAMR think about being abandoned so easily? Does it want freedom? Does this particular one have a sense of self, or is it a borderline drone that has questionable sentience? What did HAMR units do? Maintenance implies engineering work, but does this one do that?

Sleepy's Command Whitelist - Goldman Time
Zer0Winds replied to SleepyWolf's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm going to try to be brief, because most of my points have been said already. Also, I'll be completely open, I haven't seen your characters during this trial, I am talking based on previous experiences, but those experiences do not seem to have changed much based on feedback here. My issue with this is Goldman. Aez Goldhorn is a great character whom I would want to see again, and if it was just them, I'd +1 this in a heartbeat. But Goldman in his current state is... questionable. Self-antag at times. I absolutely love his concept. I think that command that is somewhat antagonistic can be great. I don't think Goldman does it well though, he goes overboard. He comes off as an overly gimmicky character that exists to be funny. That's not really bad on its own. I see people do it as various jobs, usually civilian or cargo. Easily ignored if you don't care to deal with them. But Goldman's gimmicks are beyond that, being the captain. Not participating in his gimmicks can lead to serious IC repercussions that can be canonical due to him not being an antag. Goldman is a breath of fresh air... fresh air that was in a closed room that no one was in, and soon becomes stale again when you enter. Its nice for a bit, but after awhile, its just... not that great anymore. I enjoyed my interactions with him at first, but he later just grew to be more of an annoyance. He was irrational for memes. I think Goldman can be done well. I think his concept is good, but in his current state he isn't there. He's too antagonistic. Be antagonistic as command, but be sensible about it. He can be improved though, I don't think he's a lost cause. I feel like it just needs to be toned back a bit. -
Considering the vagueness of this post I am adding another loadout item suggestion that I randomly have. So in the Tajara Xenowear, there's these cool new charms. Made of just simple materials and such. Kinda neat. Reminds me that no other race really gets that. Humans from Europa get the like, bone charm thing, but that's specifically a Europan thing. Humans are often superstitious and may have charms for tons of reasons. Also might be a part of a religion or something. You can use it for your totally original NCF cult religion you know? Anyway that's that, last new post, I swear, anything else I'll just edit into the original probably.
-
I guess so. I'm speaking from limited experience in that regard, so I'll take your word for it. You do make a good point on it. Further helping that there's no real need to be rid of the labels at all.
-
I very much disagree that the HRP tag is useless. It's why I came here to begin with. I started on Goon, specifically their Goon Roleplay Server... Which despite being tagged as Roleplay is very much nothing like Aurora Roleplay. I've tried another server that called itself a Roleplay Server, and again, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. So I gravitated to the server with the label that interested me. I wouldn't have bothered with Aurora if it just said "Roleplay Server" because for all I know, it could have just been another instance of lower mid RP. What is the difference between MRP and HRP? Negligible, sure. If you really want to abolish a term, MRP would be where I start, not HRP. But MRP is good for having that in-between area, where honestly, you want enforced RP, but don't want the extra guidelines that HRP entails. So I don't think its a good idea to remove it. Or any of them. I don't think its some gatekeeping thing. Some people just specifically want a higher roleplay experience, and others do not. Its a matter of letting people at a glance see what they might expect if they click that join button.

Wait wait wait that reminds me something I meant to add to this too. Why does the Captain's Hat have a Yellow accent, but the Captain's uniform has an orange trim? Please. Make them match at the very least, even though like only one person probably wears it.
-
This is a shameless bump for the random suggestions I had come up with a while back because I still really want that hat Okay I admit. There's some shame in it. But not enough to stop me.
-
Alright. Thanks for clarifying that to be exact. I know it was an obvious question more or less, but "usual hop duties" now include stuff done by the Operations Manager, so not every usual hop duty. I just wanted that to be specifically clear, sorry if it came off wrong. Otherwise, stuff looks interesting.
-
Gonna be honest, that wasn't what I had asked. I got that part, I was just wondering if Executive Officer handled Finances, or if the Operations Manager handled Finances. Do neither, and only the Captain handles Finances?
-
Questions: Executive Officer, "usual hop duties" still include finances? Removing their authority over Cargo makes the HoP EO have even less responsibility than they already did. If not the EO, does the Operations Manager handle that instead? How does Mining work exactly? You have to leave the ship to mine, but if the ship is moving around in space... what are they mining? This also applies to Xenoarchaeology, since I have been told they're staying. Do they mine only when the ship lands? If no one lands the ship then does mining just sit around the whole shift or something? Honestly stuff I could figure out when it comes but I'm just curious. What's the story with passengers? Rather, what's the story with the ship that it takes random passengers? I mean, I guess this depends on the player's RP. Just curious as to why an exploratory corporate ship would take random passengers. Again, RP comes in here, however there has to be acceptable, realistic reason to be some rando with no real connections to the ship taking a nice trip with everyone, and I'm curious as to the limits. Now just random stuff from me. Operations Manager is odd. I literally can't quite see any real difference from how QM already is, but to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how the whole ship stuff works. Can't use Bay as an example, as I've never seen it. I'll take everyone's word on it though. Something of note. Machinists are basically Roboticists... And I've noticed the switching to real terms for jobs, but that's not what Machinists do. Machinists are an actual job, which does handle some of the stuff a roboticist can do, mainly the lathes, they primarily handle precision parts, and I believe schematics. They have actually really nothing to do with robotics, other than an inclination toward that precision work with those aforementioned parts. Don't get me wrong I like the name, I'm just saying that the job is a real thing and if you're using real terms for jobs that's one that isn't really accurate. A more boring name would be a Robotics Engineer, or something, but that could get weird given an actual... engineering department. Uh Service Manager... I am interested in the idea. Middle management, in charge of a department with no real responsibilities, and I want there to be at least one person who demands to speak to the bartender's manager. I do see a few things happening though. Service Manager is widely disliked as a hardass. This person will do the unthinkable... make Service charge for their service or something. Maybe they require some paperwork, assuming bounties are still around, that need to be filled before service supplies anything. The Service Manager is forgotten. They don't really have to manage the department, they literally manage themselves. Maybe they slap the gardener on the wrist for smoking drugs on the job or something. The forgotten manager doesn't do the aforementioned hardass stuff, because they don't want to be said hardass. I don't think it will go well with the current mindset toward payment, IC and OOC. OOC view on it bleeds IC, I'm going to be honest. People OOC don't like the extra steps involved with paying for things, so they just don't like it IC. Paying is really the only thing I can see the manager... managing and paying is a very niche and widely disapproved of gimmick. All for bringing in payment as the norm, in my opinion but that's for another day.

I really don't think the suggestion has ever implied he wanted no penalty. I think its just stating that there's just no upside. Keep the penalty, give a better upside. The "upside" is sprinting permanently. The downside is intense pain the very second you sprint. And it is the very second you sprint. You can sprint a tile, and you'll be in pain. Sprint as long as a regular Unathi sprints? Your vision goes red, and you get intense pain. You sprint longer than a Unathi does for a mere moment, and what happens? Worse pain or fractured legs. Its not balanced in the slightest. I guess a solution might be... just tone back on the pain. Make it so actual extensive use is painful, like it was intended. As it stands, its a debuff more than anything. You get it to not sprint. Maybe like Boggle said, make you sprint slower, tone back on pain.

As someone who's played a Miner Diona, and a Xenoarch Diona, they are fairly different albeit similar, but is often overlooked as both being EVA Digging Jobs. Miners get options to not have to carry around the ore box. Honestly, Drill Techs are the best route for Diona. If doing Shaft Miner, it starts off slower, that's for sure, but you'll reach a point with it where you won't need to. Juggling the Flood Lights and Ore Box is a bit more manageable in my opinion with the KA, but annoying nonetheless. Xenoarch though, you have no choice. You have to have that suspension field generator. You can not dig artifacts without it. You can dig anomalies, and that's it. The Xenoarch also only has a drill, and is far slower at getting around the asteroid, mixed in with the slow Diona Speed. Xenoarch is RP heavy. Almost all of it requires RP to do well. The mechanics are practically negligible, the job is only as fun as you make it. And Diona Xenoarchs are hindered already by being slow that it can cut into RP. Having to try to juggle a floodlight or use glowshrooms assuming a Xenobotanist was even available to begin with... It goes even worse. You can't rely on that emergency light. Its an emergency light, it lasts about as long as the Diona walks five feet outside, because its meant for emergencies. Mining can get around the light issue... annoyingly but they can. Xenoarch though is torture. I fully agree with them getting like, the UV light or something equal.

Well I've actually learned how this works. So, you're right it copies the loadout preview. However, it copies the currently selected loadout preview, which can be changed at any point, by going to the preferences tab and using the character setup screen. Basically, you ready as the AI, it has that weird cardboard box thing anyway. You can have your loadout ready or whatever, and when you spawn in, go to your character setup and change the character's job from AI to Assistant. Don't save it, just close the window. That's what's currently loaded, and Assistant has the normal loadout preview basically. It'd be much better of course, if you can just do this from the start with the AI as it is, honestly. I don't see a need for the cardboard box outfit on the AI's preview.

There's really no easy way to deal with this, honestly. I am one of those people that agrees honestly about the tracking. I don't think its necessary at all. If you want to be tracked, carry a GPS, not using this magical sensor equipment installed in every single iteration of pants, skirts, and dresses. Not even everyone should need to be tracked, and those that do, already get the GPS. For what reason does a Librarian, or a Bartender, or Generic NT Employee #4546(Assistant) need to be tracked? Of course it has its downsides, like Carver said, about wanton murderbone... but, I mean, isn't that an ahelp-worthy thing? If you truly believe the antag did something wrong, ahelp it. Also I seriously would hope it cuts the amount of people yelling about sensors on Common Radio every shift. Possible Suggestion to above? So, in writing this I had a thought. What about a middle ground? Exact coordinates are a bit of an issue, right? So, what about... less accurate location sensors? Not sure how it would work, nor how far to go. For example, one step below, would be the sensors saying what department you're in. "John - Cargo Department" "Sarah - Bar" but its... mainly the same issue just you won't have the x,y,z, which isn't even an issue in most cases for that. Less accurate could be "Main Level - Service Department" which could be anywhere from the library to the bar, or "Civilian Sector" which is the same but including Cargo. Or if you're EVA "Mines, [Z-Level]" "Space" etc. Also not sure how the code for that works, in regards to the map... Honestly again, probably the exact same issue, but considering how large the areas can be, that "Civilian Department" "Research Department" etc could at least give the antag a bit more time, if Security has to actually search the department instead of heading to the exact room immediately... Doesn't solve the camera issue though, that Butter mentioned but I don't think it needs to. If Security is being observant on cameras, well... I can't exactly fault them for doing their job. Anyway, random spitball suggestion, not even entirely well-thought out. That aside... ------------------------------------------------------------------ Similar to what Carver said, the issue with people reporting everything immediately without fear is indeed an RP issue, one that actually does irk me, which isn't a common thing on here for me. People are not often susceptible to bribes, they are paragons of morality, with no moral downsides. They can not be intimidated, they call almost all bluffs... Sometimes it borders metagaming in that latter offense. No one can be sure that you will comply with the fear/bribe/whatever RP and are more likely to just... err on the side of caution and not bother trying. I want to see more blackmail, more intimidation, more bribes. I also think that if you are one who would, put it in your exploitables. Seriously, it does help, and the very few times I've antagged, I noticed exploitables are not very often filled in any way.

I mean, fair enough. It really is just a recolored labcoat, honestly, and the reasoning is a lot of words for "just because". Whether or not its too dark, I admit I can't actually tell. I've come to learn that my monitor displays color tones and brightness a bit weirdly, some things seeming brighter or darker than they really are. Looking at it on my other monitor, I can somewhat see how its darker, but, that's whatever. If its too dark, in conjunction with the previous statement, I guess so be it. This isn't the most important to me.

BYOND Key: Zer0Winds Discord Username: Zer0Winds#0173 Character Name: Qrose Nyala'Toqli-Fet Item Name: Designer Labcoat Item Function(s): It's a reskin of the labcoats available, with features similar to the Hephaestus variant. Item Description: A custom made labcoat, that features some aesthetic design choices, while maintaining its protection against minor chemical spills. It is notably black, and has purple highlights across the shoulder, sleeves, and across the bottom. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Qrose is a very typical Federation Skrell. They also have a preference for wearing a labcoat, even when not necessarily working in a lab, and rarely takes it off. They're also a strange mix of being reclusive and social. As a recluse, they'd be perfectly content to simply study their artifacts in peace. However, they also have a desire to share their findings. Whether presenting them physically, or doing a slideshow presentation, publishing their findings to the newscaster, and their attempt to write a book about it, some of it requires being seen in public, and Qrose knows that if one is being seen in public, they need to be aesthetically pleasing. How did your character obtain this item?: Qrose had it specially made, not long after actually getting into their field. They had it made specifically to show they have grown past simple mining, working for Qerr'Zolvq. The purple accents help show that they work in a scientific profession. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: Qrose had the coat made because they wished to be a little more aesthetically pleasing outside the lab, while maintaining their preference for wearing the labcoat, but most notably, it was made when they stopped working simple "labor" jobs like mining, and moved into Archeology, and later Xenoarcheology, an actual scientific field. They take pride in moving past that, and the coat is prestigious... to pretty much them alone, at least. Sprites: qrose_coat.dmi Additional Comments: So, I've actually been using a custom loadout labcoat for this, but I came up with the idea for this when looking at the normal Scientist coat, and thought the highlights would work well for it. The Hephaestus and Zeng-Hu Coats, similarly I thought had good potential for the coat's design. Part of the design is a patch but I just use the shoulder patch item in-game. Also, thanks jrphoenix, for the sprite.

I'm going to be honest, it's not surprising to have a Zavodskoi Engineering department. They already do military grade engineering. There's more to engineering work than working on a Supermatter Engine and fixing angry vending machines which throw stuff at you. Zavodskoi has been doing military engineering, beyond simple guns, to things like military vehiccles and stuff. I'm not sure about ships, but the point is, I can totally see Zavod Engineers.
-
First off, they said they're going to work on a justification to transfer your characters to the new megacorps. Now, I want to mirror what people say about Cargo. I feel like it needs at least one more group in it. It's strange to be the only department with only one corp, and as others said, there's a lot of places in lore that dislike Hephaestus, while keeping that Cargo mindset. I feel like Idris could be put in. There used to be Idris Cargo Techs and QM's but that was removed, so I assume they're not going to get it again. There's only two departments for Idris right now anyway. And as others said, if you really want to keep it at three, I say move NT away from Medical to Cargo instead.

Bunky Become Bureaucrat - Command Whitelist
Zer0Winds replied to BunkyB's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've like Oliver Kurtis when I saw them around. Can't say I know how they are in Security, since I don't play the department often but as a character outside Security looking in, it seems like he's good. I just wonder about one thing, if Oliver's job isn't very secure, and he's planning to get away from the field, why would he get a promotion to Head of Security? Might it be more ideal to get a fresh Head of Security character? I can't say for certain, but it just seems a bit odd to have someone with low job security, pun not intended, as a Command Character. A recently promoted one, that is. Other than that though, I can't think of any issues with you so I think you should get a chance at a trial. -
Colfer plays seemingly boring, but are actually quite interesting characters, taking the personality-less character concepts from a glance, and actually making a character out of it. I have no doubt as well that he'd do well with a Unathi character. The backstory seems interesting, and I like the take on the Aut'akh. Personally I support this, I think Colfer'll do well. +1

[Denied]Gr33dy Whitelist Application - Dionae
Zer0Winds replied to Gr33d's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Honestly, I like it. Sounds like an interesting way of doing the Tyrannical Tune Mindset. I haven't seen much of your characters, but I believe you have what it takes and you show promise, from what I have seen. +1 -
[Denied]Gr33dy Whitelist Application - Dionae
Zer0Winds replied to Gr33d's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
While it seems like you at least have understanding of Dionae Mind Types, there's not much here to show your understanding of other aspects of the Dionae. Furthermore, you haven't actually made a backstory, in the backstory paragraph, instead only focusing on the personality, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but you need to balance out both personality and history. How did the Gestalt form? Why did the one nymph take charge of the whole? How did they come up with the name? Do they follow any religion, such as the Eternal? Which sect of the Eternal do they follow, if they do? And do they belong to any major Diona Cluster?
