  1. I disagree because as of right now, machinists have more relevance than scientists, and so they should take a more central and larger physical position in the ship to reflect that. About moving it elsewhere, it could be a good idea, but keeping it in the second deck isn't bad, as it is essentially the place where IPCs go to get fixed and is on par with other critical areas such as the brig, engineering and medical bay.
  2. I am in favor of the stated changes by staff. This is a refreshing return to base for the setting.
  3. Disagree with the proposal. All content in the server itself should follow its roleplay standards, including the psych office. People's IRL issues should not be discussed in an inserted manner as this is not the proper environment for it, even if I understand your good faith intentions. I sympathize that it may generate embarrassment for ghosts to be observing a psych session, but this is a public server. The rounds are designed with observation by third parties in mind, and nothing that occurs in a round is confidential. If you wish to discuss certain things that you might not like others observing, there are always alternatives such as direct messages and private forks. The proposed change would create undue weight and serve as a basis for other controversial concepts.

    Crew Memorial

I am against this PR due to it being contrary to the IC setting and OOC culture, in my opinion. ICly, why would the SCC, who wants to incentivize participation in dangerous missions, agree with having an exhaustive list of all deceased personnel that died doing exactly that? It doesn't seem like a good idea for morale and we all have to remember that this is a dystopian megacorporation who'd lie and keep up a facade as it always does. OOCly, I really dislike the direction that the server culture is going. This is going to be disliked but the LARP is getting too strong. You know what other servers have memorials of soldiers who bravely died fighting for an operation? CM and TGCM. People seem to be behaving as if the ship isn't a megacorporate vessel with civilian crew but rather some sort of military-lite mission. Dreamix has made excellent points towards other OOC concerns such as alienation of newer players and the somber, unproductive atmosphere it will generate to RP. I don't want to see people drinking Himean mushroom vodka and smoking near the memorial acting like they're war veterans.
  5. Competent with rules, mechanics, and friendly, which are the best traits for a moderator. I have no negative interactions to speak of and I believe that you will make a good addition to the team.

  7. I have seen you play as your captain, and have interacted with your character Elwood Johnson before; I now have some feedback: On a round where I was speaking with another character, a surgeon completely covered in blood ran past by my character and yours, ignoring everybody running into a bathroom, and a FR shortly followed them after. My character commented that this behavior was very strange and bizarre, considering that just a few minutes before, an incident happened in that same bathroom. Your captain mentioned that they could simply be dirty from blood and needed to clean themselves, and told my character to carry on. Given context on what happened previously in the round, a surgeon running out of medical, panicking and fully covered in blood, all the way from D2 medical to a bathroom in D3, just to clean themselves, is bizarre - I am sure you were OOCly aware of this too, but decided to play along with any potential antagonist gimmicks that were going on in round. I do not mean this in a negative way, but you as a command player should not willingly ignore obvious things to give antagonists advantages. The behavior displayed was very illogical and I would not like to see it routinely done by a member of command, which is why I have decided to comment on this application.
  8. If you could, would you rework any aspect of Dionae biology? Such as, their life span, thought process, evolutionary timeline, etc. Would you alter major parts of it, or just small changes?
  9. Every forum post that I see from you, I tend to strongly agree; your viewpoints are interesting and bring a much needed dose of sobriety to the table. For my question, you mentioned medical advancements and diseases being underdeveloped, which is something that I concur - we do need expansions on more general worldbuilding lore. What are your plans to work on these ideas? Page expansions, new concepts?
  10. I feel like we should turn away from the antagonist model for a while. Contributors have added stuff like ship combat and it goes unused. I agree with Gecko's idea and I think that we should stray towards a more PvE environment with smarter enemies, rounds with ship combat and boarding, more engaging exoplanets with better generation and mobs, and finally challenging random events. I know that this sounds like a lot but I would be willing to code a part of it as long as other contributors stepped up
  11. I feel like a compromise could be made with one of the holodecks being moved to the central ring without the window blinders and shutters, and another holodeck being kept in the original spot for more private occasions. Mapping is supposed to be done in a way that encourages roleplay, and centralizing things on the second deck isn't bad. The server population is not large enough where there would be groups occupying many leisure locations on different decks simply because there is not enough crew to use them. This change could lead to more roleplay opportunities and I am all for it.
  12. Sensors make gameplay incredibly safe because of reasons already stated such as an OOC culture that forces players to always watch them, and balancing around antags. I agree with the suggestions to make them either job clothing only or remove them entirely. I would also agree with a time delay being added to their updates.
  13. I don't know if anybody shares my train of thought, but I have always seen borging as a way to deal with OOC dickhead antagonists. Like, if they keep escaping and instantly try to kill everyone, have slaughtered many crew, etc. My opinion is that this should be left to the senses of the command WL holders who invoke it. As it is pretty much a method to perma delete an antag from the game, could it not be replaced with forceful cryogenics? The person would be frozen in cryo until transfer off-ship. This way, there are no more executions and the mechanic still remains.
  14. I think that you need more playtime and experience on the server to get a good grasp of the lore and setting. Besides that, I have nothing to comment about mechanics knowledge.
  15. I like the idea and find it cool. It should be limited to offstations, antags, could be made manually if an emergency requires it (no robotics knowledge) but people should not be able to spawn with them. This is just my two cents, though.
  16. Having a monkey as a pet never made sense, they are not pet animals for many obvious reasons and are meant to be in the wild. Same thing goes for capybaras, they weigh up to 160lb, need a lot of space and water, and are social animals meaning that they enjoy living with their peers. They live near shallow bodies of water IRL, like rivers and lakes. Putting one in a tiny, dry, metal plated office would be stressing and totally unsanitary. Anyone who has lived in regions where capybaras naturally exist in know that they should not be kept locked in a building like a cat or dog, they are exotic animals meant to be in the wild and require great care to be kept in artificial condition. I know that I will be called pedantic and that this is a videogame, etc. I don't wanna sound like a nerd or mean, but it would really not make any sense to add a capybara to a totally lifeless metal ship. We should focus on adding a pet that would realistically exist or a fictional creature from our lore setting, which I believe would be even better and create more depth.
  17. I agree with your change. Maybe not all vessels, but things like Coalition Rangers or Kataphracts would certainly know the position of the Horizon from their intelligence reports. Even more so, third party ships should usually involve the Horizon in some way during their roleplay, as it is the main focus of the server, lore and gameplay. This change would help in that regard.
  18. Regarding the changes proposed, I agree with them because the apprentice jobs perform very similarly to their actual roles, and therefore should also have a similar expected age. Although apprenticeships do exist IRL as mentioned by others, they are usually for trade jobs (which engineering is not as it requires higher education or half a decade of experience), require close supervision (apprentices may join with no engineers or CE on), and are not entrusted with high complexity tasks (setting up tesla/engine/atmos which could cause severe damage to the ship if done poorly) As it stands right now, an eighteen year old can join as engineering apprentice and setup the engine singlehandedly, which seems really unrealistic and dumb. OOCly, we have been plagued by individuals using the role to play essentially younger engineers, and I agree with what others have said.
  19. "To me, less is more, and I think we should be painting a more general idea of a planet, how it is organized, and its history than overwhelming the reader." Would you be against lore canonizations that added content to new planets? Such as, sports, holidays, TV shows, and more? If yes, why? Would adding them in a more laconic matter be enough? "...I would love to see and create more lore that centres around the shadowy machinations of capitalist bickering." I have read complaints that megacorporation lore is seen as bland, and that players are generally unwilling to engage with it besides acknowledging it. Even Biesel itself is seen as bland and generic, with the majority of the veteran playerbase having their characters from other backgrounds. How do you plan on making events and new lore regarding megacorporations and the dystopic setting that Aurora is centered on a way that could garner more attention? I think this application is interesting because it has an unique proposal to the table. I would be thankful if you could answer these two questions.
  20. Against this PR. Not everything has to be perfect, the crew having to simply make do can generate interesting scenarios and RP. This will lock events even further and make gameplay more boring in the name of comfort. Regarding the poster's mention of appendicitis, I feel that it does not equate to this because surgery is mechanically locked. Only a surgeon (or doctor role? idk) can remove the appendix and it would be powergamey otherwise. Anyone can pick up a weapon and fight against hivebots. I agree with the justification about the blob, though. Maybe, making the events easier if there are no specifically qualified personnel? I feel like this would be a good compromise.
  21. who here likes fishing? unironically.

  22. The idea realistically makes sense and is logical (from a lore perspective). However, I believe that these changes would modify gameplay and combat too much. If somebody's punched by a Bulwark or whatever, they can always roleplay as being utterly wrecked instead of the mechanics being modified to force it
  23. Do it. I don't like the semi-immortal gameplay of ling and the immersion drop it causes.
  24. Happy international cat day :3
