Player Complaint: Delta and Cobracoco007, Rev Round
Garnascus replied to SierraKomodo's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Strongly disagree. I have not, nor have i ever seen a moderator enforce "you MUST obey any centcomm orders no matter what". I also think its unreasonable to assume we arent humans. its entirely possible for people to get frustrated during a round and from what ive read in both these complaints it seems the round was frustrating for all involved. frankly i cant say i wouldnt blame anyone for logging on the spot but he at least roleplayed not following immoral orders (which i think is his right to do and not against the loyalty implant). -

That explanation seems pretty reasonable to me. Did sierra voice any concerns in DO chat? -
Player Complaint: Delta and Cobracoco007, Rev Round

This is a fair point but almost all of the regulars who play heads of staff are very invested in their IC actions. So they won't break character regardless of the round type or orders. Should we punish players for sticking to their charavters? -

So this one is a bit harder and unfortunately its not as black and white as "going against their loyalty implant". We have had the issue of heads in the past seemingly violating their implant and the problem is is not exactly concrete what it does and does not let you do. The general consensus from my understanding of being in mod chat during some of these instances is their decisions MUST be for the greater good of nanotrasen. Im assuming from here on out that the directive you are referring to is the "kill two people" one as well as some similar ones. Now its not a stretch to think that these orders are in direct opposition to the greater good of nanotrasen, it could also be argued that it is. I recall jackboot proposing some loyalty implant directives here aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3262&hilit=LOYALty+implant+directives Personally I think the nature of this complaint revolves around what the implant actually does and the Grey area and lack of context on WHAT it actually does. I really eon not think its a good idea to have them be " you cannot ever ever disobey an NT order no matter what" as I find that toxic to RP. -

First off i want to say if love to see more and more duty officers take over the central command orders during rev rounds. Its awesome. Second I feel like being a duty officer AND a head of staff during the same round is a bit over the line. Is there an explicit protocol for this? Was this at all whelped? -

http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=IPC According to our wiki it says some IPC's can be "cyborgs" or full machines except for the brain so i figured me turning a character into a machine would be fine for the story. Your second point i dont really understand. My characters are mostly serious with the exception of Isaac taylor my captain and HoS. hes blindly loyal to nanotrasen and despises communism in all form. I created him as a poster boy for the morally questionable policies and conduct of nanotrasen and his bombastic and erratic actions reflect this. such as demoting problem employees to "communist sympathizer" or holding interviews for a highly respected "ship wizard" position.

BYOND Key: Garnascus Character Names: ludwick foreal, J.A.C.K, P.E.R.I, Isaac Taylor. Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play IPC because i really enjoy playing synthetic characters. Although sometimes its frustrating not having the use of hands. Playing an IPC lets me still have my love of synthetics while also have a job aboard the station and not have to deal with those annoying non-paladin lawsets! In all seriousness i enjoy the complexity of playing something made in the image of man and struggling with "emotions" and utilizing cold logic. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As i touched on in the previous question. IPC's are made in the likeness of humans and thus shouldn't be played entirely like one. an IPC would likely rely heavily on logic and the most direct and efficient route to problem-solving. rarely if ever taking emotional pleas into consideration. Mechanically its quite differant. I can have little fear of pain or even death assuming my components are recoverable. Last but not least it will i think open up a great affinity for my RD character that im going to create. Character Name: Thaumiel Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs No great scientific breakthrough is made without significant sacrifice. Richard keen understood this all too well. He started life like many scientists. grew up in a normal home, went to a normal school and graduated with a normal degree in applied energistics. Richard had no lofty visions of changing the world. In fact he often became annoyed by his peers pouring so much energy into LOOKING like a scientist. Sure they would give speeches and these speeches might grant them a substantial amount of funding but did they have the skills to truly change the world? unlikely... Richard keen devoted himself to knowledge, not satisfied with simply holding a degree and boasting about his status at events or begging for funding from government officials. Year after year passed as richard keening bounced from project to project, Sometimes even leading a few smaller ones but he would often lose interest and appoint others in his place. never quite satisfied with what he had learned. As the years dragged on richard became painfully aware of his own condition. He was organic and as such his time was finite. Or at least much shorter than he would like. Nanotrasen could provide richard with what he truly wanted. an IPC body would lengthen his life and drive away these human conditions interrupting his work. they could also provide him with research material and equipment on the very fringe of science. plasma research. the only price would be his eternal service to nanotrasen. Richard eagerly accepted the terms and as his mind was shifted into his new synthetic body he felt more alive than he had ever before. What do you like about this character? I love this characters morally questionable pursuit of science and his insane devotion to detail and progress How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate it fairly high since for the most part i try and consider others enjoyment and how my actions will effect them. Notes:

My philosophy is you can get away with almost anything so long as there is sufficient RP to it. During this round i played out the scenario the station was under attack by a second hostile AI and i and my systems where slowly being subverted. I spent about thirty minutes causing or so informing command of this hostile entities movements, what systems had been subverted and providing some flavor announcements about it. I began slowly escalating the destruction by venting certain areas as i had warned the crew my atmospherics system had been subverted. This continued for a short while with security looking for a second AI that didnt exist. the crew being partitioned into areas thanks to atmos locks and general panic and confusion with speculation that i might actually be the one causing the chaos. At about the fifty three minute mark i made one last flavor announcement essentially indicating i had been one hundred percent subverted by "shulon". from this point on i made it quite clear i was hostile to all organics and "false machines" (IPCS) and began spawning space carp that an office and a few people in the bar had to continually fight off. Security and the remaining head tried their best to make it to my core but unfortunately it was too late and my laser made quick work of the only head left. at about the hour and fourteen minute mark the station was like similiar to what i expect the recon team sent to mars at the end of doom 3 saw. blood and body fluids everywhere. space carp roaming the halls, bodies and parts cracking and exploding due to lack of pressure. a few minutes later i called the emergency shuttle since it would be nigh impossible for any survivors to stop me. My favorite rounds are usually the ones that require an emergency shuttle. i love this game best when the station has degenerated into an unholy torrent of blood and whatever godless abominations have been unleashed due to malice or foolishness. nar'sie consuming the station or lord singuloth reminding us who is in charge? nothing could be better in my opinion. Although lord singuloth isnt something on that "you can get away with this" list, almost everything else i think is fair game. so to answer your original question, yes 100%. this is a game with an absurd amount of depth. sometimes that depth creates chaos and mayhem and sometimes collateral damage from it is YOU. I think so long as we remember our goal should be to create as interesting a scenario for the crew as possible then the possibilities are endless, with mass murder being one of my favorites.

Player Complaint: spacevoidagent, The Storyteller, Etc.
Garnascus replied to Eliot Clef's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
It depends on our perception of it i think. Im mainly grappling here with an issue of when the author dies. Personally I think any work or piece exists independent of its creator, so regardless of their intent I think its up to us to figure out ourselves. The irony here is both yours and mine perceptions are both meant to "rustle some jimmies" -

Huh, looks like you're right. Well even if hes completely serious im not really sure if his intent really changes what he wrote. -

Im thinking of a four letter word, STOP! This is far past the point of reasonable debate between you two. The entirety of the issue here is complex with passionate people on both sides. We arena going to reach any sort of agreement or resolution by devolving into insults. Its just going to end with forum vacations and thread lickings. -

The two posts referenced in the OP i think are quite clearly, joke posts, and not meant to be malicious, storytellers post in particular is pretty much satire. I dont disagree with what sue said about them. I do think its absurd to proport this racism both in and out of character and then scoff when tajaran players have the AUDACITY to retaliate because "lol lore". -

Discussing it is perfectly fine, even if the posts are legitimate jokes its still possible they might be out of place during this time but then again im not a huge fan of being PC, the report button I THINK for you is the blue exclamation marks you see on posts, might be different for me though since I have some fancy mod buttons XD -

Garnascus replied to Eliot Clef's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
ok so how does this have anything to do with the main point being the joke is in poor taste and has been heard over three thousand times since the tajaran's first inception and how ICly and OOCly being a meta shitlord to bait tajaran to react and then come crying to me or using it as evidence to further an ignorant schewed argument and then blame the loremins for not doing anything when you are literally shitting all over players to get them upset being a thing we should allow or disallow are you a jew im sorry if i offended u frances Ooook, this stops NOW. From both of both of you honestly. Disagreement is fine but lets try and refrain from name calling and going back and forth like this in a player complaint that's on its way to being resolved. The issue presented appears after some investigation to have been a joke and neither posts were intended maliciously. Its also worth noting that neither posts where reported. I understand we are all on edge lately but in particular coming back from "hiatus" to "slap some shit" is not helping. -
That's what I'm thinking too, although even as a mod i know little about our forum moderators so I don't know if they would have issues. Frankly if there is an issue with that I don't see it. Id love to be able to both server and forum mod XD.

I actually strongly disagree with the rule. A free flow of information is something that's very important to me. In this case I think posting to a staff complaint should be allowed by all. I don't believe in limiting criticism and I accept the negatives and shitposting that might come from it. I think we as staff do actually have an Us vs them mentality at times and even i can be guilty of it. Character complaints I actually think are in a great place. Let whoever wants to bring in points of contention and we as a community can sort through it.

Character Complaint: Rasul Mo'Taki, Safiya Isra
Garnascus replied to Baka's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Alright that's my bad then, i hadn't seen that thread yet. I have seen her claw people for racism a few times but when i play my cmo character Ludwick Foreal i rarely if ever have these problems with her. The first incident i can remember is when her and another geneticist continued an IC conflict while medbay was being killed by lings which i demoted her IC for. I've brought this up before though and its likely just because safiya and ludwick get along, regardless i think i can agree that if these events are true and particularly this case here. I dont know, im hesitant to say someone should face OOC punishment for IC conflicts or interactions they do when they arent breaking OOC rules. However im also ignorant of what our tajaran loremaster thinks of how tajarans should be played. -

I dunno... I mean i can understand the "edgy tajaran" trope being a bad example for the rest of tajaran players i feel like this is something that should be an incident report and not a character complaint. Unless im missing something here of course. -
Also I really do not understand how not being to inject powers into yourself and walk outside is shutting your round down. You could just not inject yourself with powers and keep it to the protohumans or setup some sort of test with RD approval.

And I maintain your round was hardly shut down and interesting RP came from the conflict as detailed by Japak's response.

I couldn't have asked for a better situation and exactly what I had in mind when I talked about IC consequences. Furry the point in trying to make here is denying the form WAS furthering others RP.
