Strongly agree.... Who is in the greatest position to end a round? security... Personally i would just nerf batons and tasers but a whitelist works too. Im sick and tired of seeing just flat out awful RP from security. Wardens leaving the brig and making arrests. the detective acting like a security officer, all of security forgetting CSI exists and arresting people on code green with no evidence... yeah...

Emily the Awsome's Head of Staff application
Garnascus replied to EmilyTheAwesome's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Just had a great experience with emily. was playing around with slimes and had some room for some adamantine golems. she happened to be ghosting around and agreed to join as one before she had to go to bed. she roleplayed very well and as luck would have it someone needed to be rescued right outside the window of xenobiology. so i ordered the golem to rescue her and then fixed her up in surgery. Even though she had never been one before she took to the "feel" of a golem very well. I fully endorse this whitelist app and thank her for being fun to play with. i promise i was not forced to write this! -
We need more of these, the thought you put into this is really amazing. Sucks I had to be at work for it though. My RD character would have jumped at the chance to be involved with illegal research.

[Accepted] MrLimes' Explaination/Appeal
Garnascus replied to mrlimes's topic in Unban Requests Archive
Alright that convinces me well enough. Unban appeal accepted. Seriously though, don't beat yourself up too much this. Literally everyone has catastrophically ended the round before doing something dumb, myself included. A permanent ban was only levied due to the circumstance of the player warning you and then you logging. Right now im at work but I take my lunch break in a few minutes. Ill see about lifting the ban shortly. -

Yes hello. I get it and im not exactly out to lynch people but I'm sure you understand how bad the situation looked from my end, unfortunately we also had to force a round restart with admin magic. Truthfully though I'm willing to believe you when you admit how dumb of a thing to do it was. I ask for a little bit of a clarification first. I was watching the situation unfold and you stood there a good while AFTER players had warned you in LOOC chat. My problem here is you must have been neglectful enough to not notice the LOOC warnings but mindful enough to wonder "hey what's this button do" given the time frame between these two events. Like I said though, everyone makes horrible mistakes. I await your reply to my above question. -
Alberyk's Head of Staff Application

Not much to critique honestly, I honestly didn't know you weren't whitelisted. You're a great roleplayer and by no means unfit for command. -
Reporting Personnel: Thaumiel Rank of Reporting Personnel: Research Director Personnel Involved: Jack sayek, Captain. VICE, Borg, Time of Incident: The whole shift Location of Incident: Science department, telescience lab. Nature of Incident: [X]Workplace Hazard X[]Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [X]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault [X]Misconduct [X]Other Abuse of authority and overriding of professionals(Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: We received Correspondence from central command that the spiders on board our station may be intelligent, and if possible to capture one alive. As the research director at the time i of course jumped at the chance to study an anomalous organism. The first strike against the captain began when i heard over the Radio that security had been injured severely while dealing with an army of spiders breeding in engineering. I went to help carry wounded to medical bay and when i reached the scanners i found the captain there, injured as well. I find it questionable as to why the captain was anywhere NEAR engineering and possibly battling spiders. his duty is to command the forces on account of no HoS and not to jump into the fray. Regardless, Security DID actually manage to capture me a live specimen. It was brought into the telescience lab on account of a force field being setup that would easily contain the spider. I had only just begun the first of many experiments to determine its intelligence, strengths, weaknesses and other attributes in accordance with company policy. The captain informs me over command radio that he is coming to see the captured subject. The captain arrives and claims to me "i think it can understand us doctor" keep in mind i had already arrived at this hypothesis as it did regard me when i pressed it with certain auditory cues but i hadnt yet gathered enough data to be sure and the captain had only seen the spider make a few gestures. The captain then decides he is "going in to speak with it" and decides to interrupt my experiment and ignore my protests. he places his baton on the table and tells the spider that he is no threat. The captain was accompanied by VICE a security borg and attempted in many ways to tell the spider "we mean no harm" and that "we have killed man of your people" "i am sorry". keep in mind the spider only hissed, chattered and made vague head movements in response. NOTHING to conclusively prove it was intelligent. only that it had some ability to determine threats and that it wouldnt be able to take down the borg. Even more absurd the captain then decided his intuition was once again far better than the research professionals and that this spider "is their leader". keep in mind there was ZERO objective data to support this as my experiments where rudely interrupted. I asked the captain many times to leave the area and allow me to continue and he told me to "keep quiet im making progress" This captain has rudely overstepped his bounds believing he has a right to "converse" with any intelligent life forms when my experiments hadnt even yet determined if it wasnt dangerous. again keep in mind that our security force was CRIPPLED by these creatures. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: Negative, this was discussed over command channel and i sent a fax to the odin but received no response. Additional notes: This captain apparently cannot keep calm NOT being the center of attention, he is unwilling to let his staff do their jobs and utilize their given capabilities, he has recklessly charged into hugely dangerous situations TWICE and given no heed for his own safety nor his duty to the crew. he has regarded his own deduction and intuition FAR above the professionals in this area and he has rudely overstepped my authority and abused his own.

I dunno... i just thinks it waaay harder to pull off a peaceful antag that doesnt end up making the majority of players feel cheated into playing a non-extended round. Honestly if i SAW it more often i probably wouldnt think its that big of a deal, but most of the time i see peace antags exactly like how dream depicted them.
-
Close, but you're making an association error. Frances was talking about mechanics which aren't available on our server. In talking about ones that are.
-
There isn't, we aren't goon. You can't sow someone's ass to their face, shove a lighter up your butt or fart explosions. And toeing the line with too much trolley shot can potentially be a rule violation.
-
its REALLY simple and I don't understand how you can just ignore it because of "high RP" The role "wizard" is designed in every possible way for conflict. That is getting into secure areas and messing with the crew. At this point we are just going in circles.
-
Hmmm it might be more fair to consider it a case by case thing for traitors and wizards. Maaaaybe in just sick and tired of seeing traitors act like they aren't even a traitor and wizards RP with the heads of staff for two hours.
-
Ehhh... Sort of. Both sides of this aargumentcan technically fit into this "contribute to others enjoyment" rule, well at least on paper. In reality i consider peaceful antags to at worst be a slap in the face to everyone who voted for non-extended and at best only a marginable improvement over just having extended. Therefore I consider "peaceful antags" to be playing badly.
-
Being Heavy-rp doesn't excuse us from the game design.... Actually yes, sometimes a dash of goon could do us some good. That is, antags resorting to violence and mass chaos but of course role-playing it. Tyrannical? Of course it is! Its an awful idea to punish someone for playing badly but I can't help wanting to remove a drab and dreary aspect.
-
If I could make it an explicit rule I might, with a few modifications. I'm also not interested in pretending there's only 100% peaceful wizards or fully violent antags. Although any deviation towards the "peace" end of the spectrum just results in awful, boring RP. This is one of things you can logically assume "hey theirs both sides here!" until you actually play enough to see one side is not only boring and uninteresting, its counter intuitive to antags and game design.
-
You are given TOOLS and RULES specifically designed to cause conflict. This isn't figuring out a creative way to use a set of skills its using mechanics that are BY DESIGN violently opposed to any sort of peace. Peaceful antag turn the round into "extended but a few people get to interact with a guy who can do a few cool things wooooo!"
-
Because its /boring/. What part of "antag" implies any sort of peace? You are given leave to cause chaos/conflict and to have the crew reminded that this is NOT a safe place to be. antag are also given access to items (traitors) or hilariously OP powers (lings, wizards and vampires). You are literally DESIGNED to cause panic and chaos and if you are incapable or unwilling to do that then you shouldn't select it as a possibility in your preferences. Also peace lings infuriate me the most. You are not your character anymore. A changeling MURDERED you and took your place.

Detectives nabbing the things in the first place isn't supposed to happen on this server. Your job as a detective is to gather evidence and question suspects. Linking said evidence to people is solely the work of CSI people. Its up to security/Head of security/duty officers I think to combat detectives that nab it anyway. Personally, I would just bwoink them about it but I'm not sure how the rest of staff feel about it.
-
Its balanced fine as it is since using it without REALLY good reason is a clear violation of antag-related server rules. Even in a high-rp environment there needs to be some absurdly lethal and catastrophic things.
-
Strongly disagree! I actually think having things of this hilariously lethal nature is healthy to game design. Along this same line of logic we should prevent the singularity from being so destructive.

Dispute of Warning Issued by Garnascus
Garnascus replied to evandorf's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I was playing AI at the time. I watched you bang on the windows in front of an officer and when he opened the door you ran right in. Then calhoun and a few other officers attempted to detain you with flashes/tasers but since you're an IPC you're immune to them. The round had just started so nobody had a stun baton yet. So you've trespassed, resisted arrest, and assaulted an officer all with...questionable RP. At best its pretty chucklefucky and at worst its straight up abuse of your whitelist. Just because you're an IPC that doesn't give you the right to justify this type of thing with a quirky personality. -
Its unfortunate but its partly our own fault, there's a fine line between metagaming and just being stupid. We hammer out metagaming so voraciously I think players can be scared to trust or believe the chaplain for the same reason they act oblivious to strange runes and "holograms". Regardless I actually think a High role-play environment makes it awkward enough for cultists to get a foot hold that buffing chaplains would further unsettle the power imbalance that I think already exists between the crew and the cultists. In fact id probably go so far as to say we should remove the chaplain completely.
