I am concerned about your actual roleplay capabilities as a cyborg, perhaps its just me, but I have always had negative interactions with EVE, even as its AI, they have asked to be desynced when I ask them to do anything in the past, and often rarely respond or communicate with me at all before doing something. They always load a module without checking the manifest, and they also upgrade themselves, even when a roboticist is available. This behavior concerns me, as I have played AI for a long time, and these behaviors are similar to many borg mains who are no longer on the server. Custom items are a privilege, and I think it would send the wrong message if such behavior is rewarded.

[Resolved] Staff Complaint-Flimango
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
I beg to differ, given how many people tried to save you. You were aided. They literally killed me to get to you. I died before you did. You were friends with the CE, and the CE was on the AIs shitlist. The thought was using you as an example. The roleplay was in the overall environment of the round. As you said, you spoke to the CE about malf AIs. I gave you a personal experience of this prior to attacking you. You are discounting everything else just because it doesn't include you. Should you ignore the holo carp and people destroying cameras too? The mere fact you spoke with the CE about the robots is a form of interaction, roleplay branching off. You knew I was malfunctioning. -
[Resolved] Staff Complaint-Flimango
Bygonehero replied to Bygonehero's topic in Staff Complaints Archive
Your story highlighted all the reasons it wasn't a gank. You knew something was up with the AI and borgs, I interacted with you by physically stopping your fight prior to this, you armed yourself after I started pulling you at the elevator, and you were being aided by several other crewmen. You ultimately got to fight back too. Keep in mind, to gank is to kill without roleplay or escalation. I believe I more than exceeded the required interaction, as I had done my job as an antag to make the round interesting. This is entirely the reason why I feel my complaint is just, as it is not a gank, nor were my assertions really looked into by Flimango. As for wanting an elevator kill, that's not a gank, that's just a cool way to kill someone. Wanting to kill someone a certain way does not mean they ganked you to make it so. By that logic, anyone who kills someone with something like explosives or sniper rifles is ganking, as its effects are equally immediate and lethal. -
BYOND Key:Bygonehero Staff BYOND Key: Flimango Game ID:bSU-aJMf, bSU-a77B Reason for complaint: Placed a note on my records, failed to provide the context of said note, additionally, the validity of the note is questionable, as by their own admission they could not see into my situation fully. Evidence/logs/etc: Additional remarks: A situation occurred between me and another player, who claimed I ganked them. I had interacted with them previously in engineering and had been doing malfunctioning stuff for a while. Additionally, I was very open about my attack of the player in question, in which several crew came to their defense. The note argues falsely that I ganked them, when they were armed, surrounded by people who would help them, and I had previously interacted with them. I believe Flimango's judgment to be in error, and that Flimango failed to account my own viewpoints of the situation.

[Declined] nursie's (synth) lore deputy app
Bygonehero replied to witchbells's topic in Developer Applications Archives
In light of your response, I have a question for you, one that's stumped both myself and Cake. You said you wanted to expand what we consider synthetic in the lore, my question for you about this is what do you think dead Vaurca are in our lore? Once a Vaurca dies, its neural socket is uploaded into a VR forever. Are the Vaurca minds so put here synthetics or are they organics? They were born, they lived and died but are they synthetic? Are they synthetic because they only exist as part of mechanical technology? What about biotechnology? VR constructs themselves are hosted upon Cephelions, large biocomputers, very much so made of flesh. All of these can be said to be synthetic since they only exist as a result of artificial means. If the seat of the soul is seen as the brain to us, and the neural socket to Vaurca, does it really being mechanical matter anymore within a species so defined by artificial means to begin with? What do you think? -
Second Graduating Class of the Hegemonic Imperial Academy Pushed into Service! Editors note: Translated to Basic by human Sinta'Unathi linguist. The second class of the Hegemonic Naval Academy deploys today, with two hundred and sixty-three souls manning the first and second fleets. Admiral Oyuti Gour'zai himself gave the commencement speech, with the entire Academy in attendance. "I look into the faces of each of you, warriors all. I see the same hunger that held me so when traveled to the stars. For truly, what could equal the duty of defending our planet, our system? To see with your naked eyes the whole of the planet that bore us. Before we first cast ourselves into space, the burning mother cast its light upon a divided people. And since the Hegemonies founding, yet more things have tried to divide us, To divide the Hegemony. Yet, it is stronger and more united than ever before.Indeed, the galaxy has never been more connected than it has been now, and it's in this light we must hold fast the bulwark of our people and our allies. On behalf of the fleet, I welcome you. " Several K'lax were in attendance, with most sitting within the facility seating at the event. Curiously enough, only a few of the graduates appear to be from noble families, continuing the trend from the first class. When questioned, Kasa Isolosi had this to say about his time at the academy. "It was certainly different, learning space combat, and from a no less Vaurca. They are not passionate as we are, but that is not to say they are without passion. They are brutal, efficient teachers, and I believe that is where their passion lies. I remembered when we, the class had to explain the concept of POWs to Vaykt, one of our Klaxan professors. The training was not easy, more than a few graduates failed. But perhaps more than anything, however, I remember our first day, when we discovered a Vaurca was teaching us. I remember because of how excited I felt to be accepted, me, a farmers son. I could not bear to shirk my responsibilities here, and so I did not care that a Vaurca was teaching me. Yet, one person did, he was a noble I think. He stood up and started listing off who he would call to get the Vaurca removed, that the Vaurca was not worthy to teach him. On on on. I thought he would pass out before he finished when Vaykt, our Vaurca teacher stopped him. Vaykt went over the estimated fleet numbers of the Sol Alliance, and how they could obliterate us if they really tried. It went on to challenge him in the simulation room, ...it's like this large room, nearly as large as my village, with walls of perfectly clear water-like glass. The room has the controls we would use, and the walls project space and other vessels and objects. From what I know, it was designed by the K'lax for our use. Anyway, the battle was wonderful. We watched from the sidelines as the noble chosen a simulated version of the HMV Catastrophe. We were expecting our teacher to pick one of their mighty Vaurca vessels, but they only picked a transport shuttle, one that didn't even have weapons! The terms of the fight were clear, whoever is destroyed in the simulation first wins. We could see a view of the simulated galaxy, and that both ships were on opposite ends of local Moghean space. Quickly Vaykt moved their ship behind Chantarel as the noble struggled to man the ship they selected themselves. By now they were absolutely furious, we could hear their tail from outside their control room. Eventually, he got the ship moving, and just as Vaykts shuttle moved out from Chantarel with Moghes itself behind them. Seeing his target on his sensors the noble fired all of their weapons at the Vaykt's small vessel, while barely in range. None of the shots connected, and instead impacted Moghes. Even in a simulation, seeing the destruction unfold was unsettling, but that destruction was nothing as what was to soon occur. In a flash that filled the simulation screens, Vaykts ship jumped into blue space, impacting the HMV catastrophe down its stern and buckling it in two. The abominable wreck lasted only a moment before something in its simulated systems ignited, exploding. The data we could view showed that all hands upon the Catastrophe perished but Vaykt was still alive, ejected out of an escape pod no less. The noble did not give Vaykt any more problems after that, and it was then that we learned our first and most important lesson. "Size doesn't matter.Even the smallest ship can be deadly." "The recruits are a welcome addition to the fleet and the first of many with a training regiment designed with the help of our Vaurca Hegemon Citizens," said Admiral Gour'zai when questioned after his address and award ceremony.

[Denied] 2cwldys's Vaurca Application
Bygonehero replied to 2cwldys's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Application denied. I appreciate your interest in the race and urge you to reapply once you have familiarized with the server, and its roleplay style more. For the future, keep in mind differences between bound and unbound Vaurca, as well as the setting of each hive. To me, it seems you are still getting used to the servers roleplay but I am confident after some adjustment you could reapply with a complete character for our setting. -
Community Discussion: Multiple jobs - Job hopping - Realism vs Gameplay
Bygonehero replied to Faris's topic in General
No to job hopping. It would exacerbate an already existing problem. It's a slippery slope and ultimately rots RP from the inside out. Conversely, it's not hard to make a character to do a different job. Just do that. -
My take away from unathi is that they always viewed the soul as a perfect thing, as you said, and the body as its vessel. Using this thinking, I would think that cybernetic lifeforms would be an absolute abomination, it is akin to necromancy. Fettering the soul into eternal servitude, denying it the release of the next existence. Cyborg shells would be seen as vessels to trap the soul, and synthetics would be seen as an attempt to mimic the soul. For surely, if a soul can be made by mere mortals, it devalues the idea of it being a perfect thing. How can imperfect creatures create a soul after all? As for the gender identity thing, I don't want SJWs in my spacemans, we can keep that ambiguous, thanks.

14.1.2460 Helmet Camera Footage obtained by ENN depicts a central chamber. Lii'dra Proto-Queen Discovered, Elyran Forces Victorious! The Elyran army has completely taken back the city and cleared the Lii'dra from their tunnels within the lake Serenity mountain range. ENN has been able to confirm near total annihilation of the black kois parasite from visual scans as the last few evacuation teams exit the city. ENN has also been able to acquire helmet camera footage from within the Lii'dra tunnels, where operations concluded earlier yesterday. The footage depicts chilling experiments performed by the Lii'dra. Our source within the Elyran Miltary had this to say. Faced with this video the office of the Minister of the Army confirmed that a Vaurca Queen was discovered, alive and captured. Since the conclusion of the operation, the entire area surrounding Lake Serenity has been completely surrounded by the military, with additional equipment and fortifications constructed around its perimeter. Prime Minister Rasheed Tatenda has declined for comment on the story but assures ENN that the state of emergency will end soon, and recovery processes will begin. The Interstellar Aid Corp has in the meantime completely mobilized, focusing their relief efforts are on the ground. Whatever the case, we here at ENN will leave it to our readers to determine their own conclusions, but as it would seem that our Serene Republic allied with the rest of humanity and still others, achieved victory.

[Denied]Each species' armaments.
Bygonehero replied to sdtwbaj's topic in Lore Canonization Applications Archive
You have gotten some points, but I am afraid you missed the other more important points when talking about Vaurcan weapons, and technology. Vaurcan energy weapons are based almost entirely upon their mastery of phoron and tachyon particles, Indeed, their two most well-known weapons, the Zo'ra Blaster and Thermal Lance, use the former and latter respectively in their operation. A Zo'ra Blaster fires a globule of phoron at a target, where it clings to the target and ignites, similar to napalm. A Thermal Lance is a sustained beam of ionized tachyons. All known hive ships are equipped with such Thermal Lances as their main gun, which is virtually unmatched in its raw destructive power. Miniaturized tachyon lances can be found among Bound Za and as implants. Their only real obstacle is projected energy shields, which Vaurca never historically developed. The hive ships themselves were in fact not designed as warships, or any kind of ship really. They were designed as ark-ships, more as a mobile city than anything. Every ship is its own environment and equipped so to sustain and protect itself. Every ship possesses advanced missile defense systems as well nuclear payloads. When thinking about Vaurcan technology it's helpful to think about how they evolved. Vaurca historically never valued personal space or ergonomic design. The complex operation of a mechanism isn't seen as complex when you were quite literally born to perform a specific complex operation.Indeed, instead of sleek and compact designs, Vaurcan constructs tend to be large and sturdy. Both K'lax and Zo'ra hive-ships have survived direct hits with thermal Lances and modern nuclear weapons, but most impressively perhaps, would be either the Lii'dra hive ship surviving a direct impact with an object traveling at faster than light speeds or the K'lax hive-ship performing a controlled crash landing upon Trets polar ice cap in one piece. Vaurca tend to organize their military into battalions of bound, with several Unbound Za directly overseeing their operation in battle. These Unbound Za are called Ancillaries and historically have been the primary targets of ground warfare between hives. Bound Za are often equipped with implants that provide them weapons that can be projected from their bodies. Zo'ra are historically seen as having the most advanced implants, with some of their most successful combat warrior's given truly, exotic and ancient implants. K'lax are often cited as the architects of many of the monolithic constructions attributed to the Vaurca, most notably the hive ships. Because of their civilization, Vaurca have based much of their culture upon biotechnology and genetic engineering and have perfected the processes involved in such endeavors long ago. Because of this, there is virtually no research into artificial intelligence. As far as Warfare is concerned, Vaurca tend to be efficient, and would not waste effort capturing an enemy ship unless the act of doing so is absolutely needed. Vaurca did not tend to take prisoners of war either, with almost every conflict in their written history resolved as part of a diplomatic agreement of vassaldom. The common trend would be, >Two or more hives go to war >War continues until one side cannot achieve victory or the negatives to continued warfare outweigh the benefits of victory. >Sue for peace by surrendering to vassaldom of a larger hive It's important to note that because of their biology and civilization, the existence of the hive is paramount. Egos concerning different hive ideologies, or really any competitiveness rarely if ever manifested. -
12.1.2460 Operation: I'adat Al-Amal begins within New Cairo. Minimal damage can be seen to the city, as combat shuttles evacuate civilians and drop Cardox gas bombs. Hope Returns to New Cairo, Lii'dra In Full Retreat! Prime Minister Rasheed Tatenda called a late press conference today to inform the public about operations afield within New Cairo. Earlier in the day, we at ENN reported significant military activity, though until recently the size and scope of the operation were unknown. Prime Minster Tatenda had this to say. ENN has been able to conduct several interviews with survivors rescued during the military operation, prior to this announcement. Our reporter Velinda Balestre interviews Wei-Uryat'tem-Thup, a visiting Skrellian Scientist who gives his account of survival. At the time of this writing, the operation is still ongoing, with more people being rescued as the day wanes. Continual carpet bombing of the city is expected to go throughout the night, with strike teams methodically clearing the city block by block. More news as it develops. Readers can find more interviews at our website, with one such interview is listed here.

I once shared the view that admin staff shouldn't be involved with lore teams, not because of any reasons that you listed [mention]sdtwbaj[/mention], but rather to ensure that average rounds aren't just one big circlejerk, where any interesting or outside the norm roleplay is discouraged. I believed this at the time because I came from other servers where this was the norm. I do not think this is a useful way to see the relationship between admins, lore staff, and players, not for Aurora at least. As skull said, separating admins from roles will alienate them from other people. From my perspective, we should be doing the opposite. I've not had more fun playing SS13 than I have recently. The events that admins have designed have been interesting and fun. I would rather give them MORE tools at their disposal to craft these environments for our game.Being a part of the lore staff, and caring about the lore when you really understand it can do this. It can create more opportunities for everyone, not just the admins in question. Because the admins are in a better position more than anyone to inject more lore into the average round. As for this application, I have worked with Aboshehab upon several lore topics. I believe that coalf touched upon the same criticisms that I would raise, namely that the trope of your writing tends to lean towards solidarity, authority, and military service. While these are important, in the grand scheme of things, they are only a facet of a world. This is especially important now, as there is a universal effort by everyone on the lore team to better define mundane, day-to-day life, the little things that add up to a larger existence. In some cases, they can collectively be more important than the 'important' things. I believe that this theme in your writing is something you could depart from if you chose to, and that your addition to the lore team would not affect your overall performance as a writer or admin. +1

9.1.2460 Meetings took place within the Nanotrasen Corperate Headquarters, overlooking the Trasen Memorial Stadium, and the rest of Mendall City. Deal Struck with Nanotrasen, High Queen Ta'Akaix'Vaur'skiyet'sca Zo'ra Responsible? In a stunning turn of events, Nanotrasen has stepped back from the re-negotiation table, conceding to the original trade agreement brokered with the Serene Republic of Elyra. Eyewitnesses reported several Vaurca present during the meetings, with Ta'Akaix'Vxtyl'anxt Zo'ra serving as the Zo'ra Queens representative. The first two days of negotiations seemed to go poorly, with Prime Minister Rasheed Tatenda's pleas being callously reduced to cruel arithmetic by Nanotrasen economists. On the third day of talks, Tatenda called forth 14-year-old Aleena Mundi who gave a chilling account of her escape from New Cairo, and the heroic sacrifice of her parents to save her. Following this tearful recollection, the rest of the meeting moved behind closed doors, taking four hours to finally end. At the press briefing afterward, Ta'Akaix'Vxtyl'anxt Zo'ra led the way from the chambers, with Rasheed side by side the towering six-legged Vaurca. In a joint speech, Rasheed and Ta'Akaix'Vxtyl'anxt Zo'ra announced that a deal has been struck. Prime Minister Rasheed Tatenda concluded the speech to applause, with Ta'Akaix'Vxtyl'anxt Zo'ra taking position behind a specially designed podium, going further into detail the nature of the resolution reached by Elyra and Nanotrasen. After the press briefing, a presidential motorcade met the Elyran and Zo'ra representatives. Regarding the actual numbers of the renegotiated aid deal, Nanotrasen declined to comment.

[Declined] Arrow´s Human Lore Deputy App
Bygonehero replied to Arrow768's topic in Developer Applications Archives
My work with Arrow is ongoing, we have debated the finer points of spaceman economics and how to integrate them into the game. He is unique amongst individuals because of his ability to recognize the mechanics that could exist, in the lore that does exist and makes those mechanics a reality. I can think of no better person that could expose and re-enforce the lore to a larger audience, even those not particularly interested in lore. -

They are within Biesel looking for their missing half. They got to Biesel by shuttle. In Dominia, the only bodyguard you can trust with your life is one you spent your childhood with. Before they were discovered, Two of Three was being groomed for this role within house Caladius. On the station, they would most likely fill a security position. They were assigned to the Aurora by passing its hiring processes.

5.1.2460 Breakthrough Announced, Nanotrasen Renegotiates Aid Terms Earlier today, Nanotrasen announced that it has discovered a breakthrough for the kois epidemic of Elyra. The company goes on further to explain that in all lab scenarios, the black kois infestations were completely removed upon application of their patented chemical, Cardox. Andrew Reynolds had this to say in a press interview. ENN has since been able to verify that the Cardox cleansing agent was used previously to clean up from a kois bloom epidemic within Tau Ceti last year and that manufacturing processes involved with the chemical make it extremely expensive to produce. Sajjad Toma, immediately rallied his supporters against Nanotrasen after their announcement, publicly shaming them for what he called "war profiteering tactics," that he claims they employed and blasting the Freedom Parties stances to be dealing with them in the first place.

BYOND Key:BygoneHero Character Names:Ancillary, Za'Akaix'Nyx'Zo'ra,Za'Akaix'Lix'K'lax,Nod, Edgar Mills, Vicky Langdon Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: They are interesting both narratively, and mechanically. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They feed off light and radiation. The darkness and lack of heat can kill them. They move slowly compared to every other species, and they appropriate the knowledge and culture of other species instead of making their own. Character Name: Two of Three Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "Look for me there, we will all remember ok?" Athos, Porthos, and Aramis did indeed remember, but recalling such details weren't important right now. What was important right now was not being on the receiving end of a laser gun. From their hiding place, they could see black-suited figures, their clean pressed suits making shuffling sounds as each moved with practiced pace as they methodically checked the contents of each dingy cargo container aboard an equally dingy ship. All of them knew they would be found if they stayed here but because Caladius said it would be safe in this container, they stayed. The men approached, moving past their hiding place without incident. Much later, Athos would find out that they were led to believe that the Board of Xeno-Inquiry had acquired new, highly venomous specimens, and did not think too highly of the possibility of being stung. As the danger past, they relaxed, but never fully. Doing so would go against something they were taught very early on. They didn't really get the point of such lessons then, but nevertheless, they kept them in mind. As the cargo ship left Dominia for parts unknown, distant starlight that shone from the portholes that ran the breadth of the spacecraft evoked an almost primal memory of sorts in each nymph. Because of some quirk in their biology or the surreal clearness of view that the airless void gave, it elicited a vivid recollection that swept across the fields of their memory. They recalled others of their kind, countless others. A battle, Pain! and then... Her They remembered when they met, as her little green fairies, but all too quickly, as her little green friends. They remembered the Blue Palace of House Caladius, The Hospitable House in Inhospitable Land.Legends held that Great Caladius built it smack dab in the middle of Dominias polar ice cap to hide his treasure. Whatever the case, it stands now as a testament to their house's power and wealth. Equal parts mansion and fortress, unassailable and imposing. Beyond the house, they remembered it's gardens where they played. The smell of orchids that hung in the air and the calls of dozens of songbirds, each imported from Earth at the cost it would take to feed a family of four for four years. They remembered getting their names, from heroes of her favorite storybook, one of many volumes saved from censorship that her father possessed. They remembered tutors, lessons, formal education, but most of all, they remembered when her father got rid of them. He had acceptable reasons, of course, they had come to realize by then the precarious nature of their friendship with his daughter. They knew it rested upon secrecy, least insofar as the Empire and its Tribunal commandos are concerned. That it did well to stay small, unseen. They knew their discovery it would damage Caladius, but more importantly, it would hurt her, and It was for this reason primarily, that none of them really argued when their existence became a problem. They allowed themselves to be quietly taken away, and shipped to parts unknown. That would have been the end of it if she hadn't found out. As they departed, she made each of them promise to return when they could. They swore and left, but returning didn't feel important then, rather, leaving did. Dionae are nomadic like that after all. As the passage of years wore on, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis did what dionaea do, and split. They split and found new people, new places to remember, but they never forgot her, or each other. It would be twenty years before two of three would find each other again, brought together by the providence of a resurgent Dominia, now free of slaves and more accepting of aliens. Two of Three seeks its final missing piece, to complete what they swore twenty years prior and perhaps bring close a circle that has led them back from where they began. What do you like about this character? Dominia Dionae, and an interesting adaptation of a highly aggressive culture to a relatively passive species. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10 Notes:
