  1. ENGINEERING NEEDS LOVE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  2. I fixed it for you, and No, I don't think it would. Someone who validhunts would simply get a jetpack.
  3. Makes sense to me, they are historically a cavern dwelling species.
  4. The problem in this complaint I believe is a systemic issue and not one with any particular player, I am not alone in these observations, so I do not feel that this complaint has merit in no small part to both reasons above.
  5. Military Analyst states; "Worst is yet to come." 3.10.2460 During the most recent broadcast of Sol Today, Former Sector Chief Cob Sobenstein gave an impassioned speech about the current state of affairs within the galaxy. Debating their points with Martian District Senator Neville Chumberlane. "We need to understand that peace is not an option with the Lii'dra," mentions Cob. "Look to Elyra to know their intentions. Elyra? Elyra was just the beginning if we don't change our attitude towards our allies. It's simple metric. Just because their homeworld is supposedly two thousand years away doesn't mean we will have another two thousand years before another Lii'dra hive ship comes knocking at our doorstep. They could just have easily launched dozens more towards us one thousand nine hundred and ninety years ago. Just look at the damage one hive ship did. Now imagine more coming into the Orion Spur every year. This is a problem for the here and now, and the eggheads at Jargon, as well as some of those in command, don't see that. We should be getting ready because we really don't know anything about the enemy other than 2000-year-old data, and you asked about this Migration ban? It's just the work of politicians looking to charge up their base come election. It's not the time for dividing our allies, regardless of species, because quite frankly, we need all the help we can get." "I agree with you on one thing." retorts Neville Chumberlane, Martian 5th District Senator. " The Migration ban is foolish, but the rest of your speech? It's pure demagoguery. The Vaurca have been in the Orion Spur for what? Four, Five years? In those years I can't say we've been the leader to the rest of the galaxy that we used to be. No, you're just echoing more hate speech and getting people afraid to sell your military buildup agenda. The latest in aggressive Sol tactics that end up smearing our great name. We don't need more chest thumpers making decisions. We need people who can achieve results, and I am convinced that the Lii'dra could be brought to the table if they are approached the right way. Look at our world from their point of view, they could see us very well harboring war criminals, or think us at war with them when we are not! No, I believe that we can reach a peace with the Lii'dra if a way to communicate can be reached. We should be spending our resources to better understand them, and other species of our galaxy." Undoubtedly there was some contention between both guests, but we here at ANN would like to know what our readers think, send us your extranet comments at our homepage. This interview was brought to you by Getmore Brand Skrellsnax, Skrellsnax, the Snax for the intelligent skrell on the go!
  6. While it's easy to tear something down for lack of realism, I have to completely disagree with you. All of your suggestions boil down to make a prescription. This is neither fun nor really stimulating for anyone playing the psych or anyone they interview. You need to understand that this is a game, so any semblance of real-world subjects, topics and objects needs to be seen through the filter of a game to make it fun. These mechanics ARE fun, they were designed to avoid passivity and chair RP. Just because they exist in game, it doesn't mean they have no roleplay potential, nor does it mean to take away any of what you had before. There's not much reason for a psych, chaplain bartender, and chef to be on a space station in the first place when a shift canonically lasts two hours but they are because those roles are fun.
  7. We've debated our magic McGuffin, phoron for some time and have come to the same conclusion as you for the most part, that Phoron has to have a negative energy density. You don't need much negative energy to make a wormhole to start with, but there are some problems with your lore application which I will disclose. 1. Bluespace gateways were canonically made before phoron was ever discovered, the debt incurred by Solgov building one to Tau Ceti was one of the original moments of contention between the two in our lore. Furthermore, its likely that blue space gateways operate without using a negative energy dense object, at least before. This is possible due to the Squeezed Light phenomena. In it, it basically overviews that you can produce negative energy by some clever manipulation of high energy waves focused onto a single point. This approach is likely much less cost-effective than phoron and is likely the reason warpgates/bluespace gates were so expensive to begin with. 2. Phoron is found planetside, albeit rarely. Elyra being the only confirmed planet in our lore with phoron deposits. Sedantis is technically a moon, so the degree to which gravity interacts with phoron could be argued. 3. From a narrative standpoint, you want to avoid totally explaining your magical McGuffin as long as possible. It can have rules, sure, but to fully explain it is to make it inflexible. As for where phoron comes from? We have debated that significantly too, I am of a mind that phoron was brought to our dimension from another dimension, as to explain why it would have a negative energy density, to begin with.
  8. Upon reviewing your characters, application accepted!
  9. I like that its framed as an interview and your character is pretty solid. If you could, please advertise your application in the game a bit for some feedback to seal the deal!
  10. Engineering is pretty stale right now, and no features for it are seemingly in the works. While medical, security and science, even civilian are all getting some love and attention, Engineering is left alone at a dinner reservation they saved for that one sadist that enjoys playing engineering more often than not by themselves. We need to fix this. Any ideas how?
  11. What about if we made breaches of ISD protocol by synthetics punishable by execution? It makes sense if the crime is bad enough, the company wants to cut its losses.
  12. If a dionae is just an assemblage of nymphs what happens in the transition from a singular nymph to multiple nymphs that cause them to grow these organs in the first place? If they deform into separate nymphs, where do these organs go?
  13. I am not arguing for the sake of arguing, I am arguing because I care about the lore, and thought that I would bring a concern of mine to the forums for input from the community. While you both make a case for security synthetics, what about the psychiatrist/ priest? I can absolutely guarantee that most IRL religious organizations now wouldn't accept a robotic priest/ chaplain, and it's dubious at best that a synthetic would be assigned to be a psychiatrist either. Physical care is one thing, but this isnt about physical care or bedside manner.
  14. https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=2981&start=120 The latest article is then a step in the wrong direction in my opinion. To me it seems we are trying to remove conflict from the setting. I am carefully managing how Vaurca are perceived because the conflict breeds good character progression, but to not deviate from the original topic too much, I feel that the arc of the lore is slowly moving towards hug-boxes when very real reasons exist that should prevent such utopianistic equality from existing in the first place. This lack of empathy to me is a real reason why such restrictions should exist.
  15. The fact that IPCs, in general, cannot feel pain limits their ability to experience the organic condition, as such they will never be an absolute duplicate. This limits them in many ways people fail to realize. How is it that we allow IPCs who don't know what getting hit with a taser feels like arrest people using such devices? Or how getting pepper-sprayed feels like? Why is NT or Tau Ceti for that matter ok with IPCs taking up roles as a psychologist when that psychologist cannot empathically relate to sensations that they themselves cannot feel? Security guards and police officers, as well as certain medical professions, require a level of empathy that robots cannot duplicate, as they cannot duplicate the organic condition as they are now. How do you describe degrees of pain or types of pain to something that only knows clinical definitions? This empathic divide from the negative sensations of the organic condition means they will never have the same level of empathy as an organic and thus are unfit to play roles that require a large degree of empathy to play. Medical professions that require clinical skill would be areas IPCs excel at, but as far as the roles of medical doctor and to a greater degree psychologist, I do not believe its realistic to have an IPC in that profession. As for security personnel, Administrative positions, as well as the more deductive roles would be areas an IPC would excel in, but as far as the role of security officer is concerned, they are unfit for that duty as they are physically unable to identify with the pain they inflict on other people, which calls into question if they know what is and isn't acceptable levels of force for any given situation.
  16. I can't see how this would do anything but add flavor to your character. Its creative enough to definitely make them distinct while not being over the top. +1 from me.
  17. I would like to comment on this head app, but I cannot for the life of me remember David or Billy Moretti or your dionae. Do you play anyone else D:?
  18. I'm not sure where others were going with applying as a specific character, the application at least to me is on the merit of the player. You've always given me good roleplay and interactions, +1
  19. I've always enjoyed my in round interactions with your characters and it's refreshing to see a tajaran story that avoids their civil war.
  20. I've always had good hostile interactions with Hackie. One thing I would like to see is you branching off your characters from cargo, but that's small beans compared to roleplaying with you as antag or crew +1
  21. An all-around good player, I am not worried about their roleplay capabilities, or their ability to actually do engineering work. I think that people get hung up on your time playing, despite that many of the engineering and atmospheric mechanics are pretty cut and dry once you get them down. Furthermore, I don't believe its fair to judge someone's application on whether or not they have mastered all esoteric systems in a department, that just promotes power gaming. Your story is short and believable, its ok to have normal stories and normal people, its something the station is in dire need of. +1
  22. Essentially, large blood pools would eat through the tile its on, eating through the floor tile, plating and then the ground per blood pool respectively. If someone is drug through xenoblood they should suffer burn damage.
  23. Drones should not be able to roll traitor, not only does it make little sense that they get it in the first place, but it creates an antag that cannot RP. Random shocking doors and being a general nuisance isn't constructive RP for anyone, nor does it add any roleplay to the round. They cannot talk, so it makes most times if they go loud seem like a gank because they cannot convey so without appearing to be malfunctioning in the first place. Emagging a drone is fine because then it is under the control of someone and is subject to the law limitations of it.
  24. Perhaps it's me, but JAIS doesn't come off as robotic in the slightest.
