  1. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account:aboshehab Character Name(s): Primary Characters: Raymond Hawkins(HoS) , Needle (CMO), Ghoasim-Edirne Qe'liis (Captain), Weirup Vi'liis (Officer) , Hanaan Al-Meer (HoP), Ahmad Al-Meer (Lab Ass.), Aisha Al-Meer (Detective), Handy Man (Station Eng.). Secondary Characters: Frankie Fleming(Stat App.), Ian Hunter (Xeno), Charlton Lester (Robotocist), Pioneer (Scientist), C.E.U. (Officer), Groovy (Civie jobs) , Bob Thorton (IAA), Khalid Walid (Mining), SNARK (Borg), and more that I can't recall right now. AI Name(s): G.R.U.M.P.Y. Preferred means of contact: Discord, Forums, Steam and Whatsapp Age: 20 Timezone: GMT +4 UAE, Dubai When are you on Aurora?: I am generally present on Wednsday until Saturday due to returning home from my dorms. On those days I'd say I'm present on the server or available from the afternoon say from 12 PM until I head to bed which can be as early as 10 PM or later. From Sunday to Tuesday however I am available on the forums and discord is always running for me, but unless the university does decide to unblock the ports Byond use, I am unable to log on the server. Experience How long have you played SS13?: on and off over a course of three years perhaps? Never settled down until I joined Aurora How long have you played on Aurora: Well, apparently 485 days, but I'd say I've settled in Aurora a year ago. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I'd say Mechanically, I'm proficient in medical, and most science fields, my weakest point would be any advanced form of engineering but even then I'm aware of most mechanics present and could find an answer through the wiki. In terms of general mechanics, I think I'm aware of most things, there may be some things there and there that I've never done but I doubt they're many. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I've received an antagonist ban for the duration of three due to my actions being unsavory to the players of that shift as an AI, which I fully admit to, the person issuing this was Garn. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I guess it's that I find enjoyment from it, I've always been a sucker for RPG and would actively attempt to RP in games such as the Paradox series as opposed to gaming the system, SS13 is no different, in fact, I prefer it over many due to the novel and organic nature of interactions and gameplay. Why do you play on Aurora?:I've never truly settled, in fact I was a bit of chucklefuck maybe even a griefer a couple of years back within the bounds of those low RP servers, never really settled with it. Then I decided to join Aurora over a year back, read the rules and and played a few rounds, with my first character being Charlton Lester, I liked the server so much I even made records for him. Point being, I thoroughly enjoy the gameplay of this server, I like the community, I'm aware that I've had some less than savory moments in this game which I've strived to improve and rectify, since I like this server and the enjoyment I'm getting keeps sending me back. What do moderators do?:A moderator as can be inferred from the name moderate the general dealings of the server, from player attitude both from an OOC standpoint and an IC standpoint. They are also present to provide assistance to the player base in the form of adminhelps or through OOC chatter. Furthermore, they aren't supposed to give out punishment at every possible instance when a word or two can rectify this. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: I guess it would mean that you've been entrusted with a certain level of responsibility that is on a volunteer basis. You're trusted to assist in smoothing out the rounds, dealing with complaints and queries from members of the community, along with working with a team of other staff members, which means cohesion is extremely important. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Well, I talked a lot about "pitching" in to the community and the server, and I feel like this might be the more suitable way for me to do this. I've thought of applying for the other open positions but didn't feel like I'd be the right person for those tasks, in fact I spent quite some time deliberating whether or not to write this application. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: Well, this is a tough one to answer, as I feel like this is more something the reviewers will judge me on rather than myself announcing, but here it goes. I feel like I'm a patient person, honest to myself and others, along with the fact I like taking things step by step, like a check list to avoid being overwhelmed. I also understand the biggest issue with retention of people is generally that some burn themselves out, so I'm able to moderate myself without reaching that point, I'd like to cite myself as a regular player for the past year. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I've answered this slightly in the previous question. I feel like I'm patient enough to deal with such situations, and I don't believe it's easy to get under my skin, considering this is a community over the Internet and such statements should be taken with a pinch of salt, joke intended. But if I were to be angry, stress, annoyed or the plethora of other conditions similar to those, I generally won't really be playing the game, but instead venting my frustrations over other activities I have for this specific purpose, but even assuming I were, I'd back out of this situation, explain myself and try to have someone step in for me if it's a moderator issue. Anything Else You Want to Add: I feel like over my time on this server that I as a player have improved the standard of my characters. My first character, Charlton Lester was a PTSD ridden alien hating sol marine vet medic that is currently scarred, prosthetic ridden Robotocist that if measured by a cringe scale, we'd be required to find a replacement of said scale. But from there, I felt like I've improved to having the likes of Raymond Hawkins, arguably my favorite character out of the bunch. I also have had experience as staff of other communities over the years. I've in particular also dealt with recruiting, some aspects of training and software support for new members of Arma unit, which as some of you may know is quite the handful. Another point is that I sense that I'm level headed enough to not get annoyed, nor angry by the IC actions of players from an OOC standpoint, as I understand that's just how the characters are as opposed to the people.
  2. BYOND Key:Aboshehab Character name:Raymond Hawkins Item name:Engraved Coin Why is your character carrying said item to work?A coin that could be signifying an attachment to something, could be just a simple coin he likes to carry on or his hobby is collecting coins, but regardless of which is the true reason, he always has it with him. Item function(s):It acts just like any coin, but nothing other than that in term of mechanics. Item description:A coin of light and bright with one side having an engraving of a greek Lamba sign and on the back the initials of R.H. are engraved. Item appearance:It's essentially an edited sprite of the mythril coin I've cooked up. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_uzglt6Yh2PV3g3aUlNUkZXejQ/view How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Well, I'm hoping the curiosity of some would come into play or my own purpose of it would come in to establish interesting scenarios with both parties enjoying them. Additional comments: I will say that some the "why" questions have very vague answers and that's for a personal reason as I prefer to keep most of this a bit of a secret, but I tried answering them without giving out too much information. But I will concede to writing everything should staff require it or alternatively I could send it through PM's. Some members of the community are aware of a certain practice of mine when it comes to my characters, and that is keeping them a closed book a person has to open themselves instead of presenting the information easily.
  3. I agree, after further information was shown, it seems like in my opinion what Garnascus essentially did was he had a check list with him ticking off options until it reached the requirement of lethal countermeasures.
  4. Lukas Chapman from what I recall is no longer that anymore, as he's revised his character after suggestions and questions regarding his character, this was all done prior to their command white list application as well.
  5. Breccan Weaver, now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. A person I trust to be on the security force with me, and one I've worked with prior to my command whitelist approval. From what I recall, he was generally quiet and did his work well, wasn't one of those overly zealous gun totting officers we sometimes get, and acted professionally while working. Furthermore, I find no issues from his application, I find some of his answers to be written better than what I have done for my own application and his story seems simple and nice, enough to understand the character but not too much to spoil the character. My verdict for this is +1.
  6. So I've been meaning to get back to this application, from the get go I'm going to honestly have to go with -1 but let me explain my reasoning and suggestion. The others have touched on your records so I won't go into detail about it, it makes no sense to me for a Doctor to let go of his high paying job to be a security officer along with the characters lack of experience for the job itself. I find that Cane can be hostile and aggressive in the wrong situations, and when I questioned you why you're working as an officer instead of a doctor, the short version of this was because of the "thrill". There are times when I also find you having issue with authority, I do not believe I've been on the receiving end of this, but I've witnessed it, there was an instance when Syion and yourself were suspended by Knapp, which let me tell you is an achievement, I don't think I know a more patient commander that her. So my suggestion to you, is give this application a pass and play around for a bit longer. You could also redesign your character around security more or make a new one for security.
  7. I've played quite extensively with cornhead here. While I don't believe they've taken any interim positions, I believe they can still be good with this position. You get a +1 from me.
  8. Can you explain your reasoning behind this, aside from "my character is from there"? How do you think keeping earth would help the lore? Personally for me, the way I see it is that Earth is the beacon of humanity, while it doesn't have to be the central hub of SA, it certainly is the spiritual capital of Humanity, a place of origins that has led them to be a mighty nation, while they may be a vestigial nation right now, they are akin to a sleeping giant, but enough of that. I believe that removing Earth may actually harm the lore and the current setting we have right now, with it being a central and known location of interest and as I previously mentioned, of *spiritual* importance. I don't think that a whole lot of people would diversify the lore even with Earth gone, as there are still other places that can be related to, like the moon or Mars, or just anything within the solar system. In fact, removing Earth might end up limiting role play opportunities, since it might be felt that there is a forced way to play a human. I'm not saying this for the sake of my characters either, as I have only one character from my signature list or ones I've put on ice that is actually from Earth, the rest are spread from currently existing lore settings to ones I've created myself.
  9. I'm also in agreement that while some disaster would be fine for Earth, but for it to reach a point that we can no longer base our characters from Earth is not something I personally want to see happen. One of my primary characters is based from Earth as well.
  10. Huh, the more you know.
  11. If the cargo technician gossips, then he's the source of the leak. Until we get paper shredders then disposals remains the only way for the masses to dispose of unwanted paperwork, since not everyone wants to burn paper in the office. You're wrong. You can place old forms and paperwork into the request console which adds to their paper stock and destroys the paper. Are you sure? I recall trying it one and it ended up trying to fax it. Is there a certain way to do it? If I don't have a lighter, I usually just relabel the paper and put it in a cabinet if I'm Command, otherwise I keep it on me until I can dispose of it.
  12. Why not, already gave my support in the previous application.
  13. Well, I've thought about this for a while now. I think Edgar might be good enough for the role of Director, I'm not so sure about Ashley being eligible to be HoS just yet. I'm going to give this application a +1 under the pretense you're going to continue on and learn, and with that to hopefully improve. I think my opinion in this matter is similar to many other people that have commented in this thread, and I'm not really pleased with your story, as I feel like being a xenobiologist and a roboticist all in one might be a bit too much, along with the "synthetics going rogue" and building "free synthetics to work" parts. Other than that, I don't really see anything that bothers me. Furthermore, OOC'ly, I don't really have any issue with you and you seem to get along with people in this community. So, a +1 from me.
  14. If you think this can be improved on, maybe even have it translated to Arabic using English letters, I'd be happy to do so.
  15. Posting these things is not helping your case, you may as well delete this thread. Just let the appeal run its course, you have other characters you can play while this is sorted out.
  16. So I've been a bit neglectful in posting here, I was the HoS this round "Raymond Hawkins", my memory is a bit unclear about the entirety of the round but I'll try to answer with what I recall. So yes, the Ninja Aiko was found and then brought to security for questioning, both Stefanie and I were asking, the story provided to us seemed highly unlikely so we had a few scenarios in mind one of them being a corporate espionage/attempt, or at least a very bizarre one. My initial orders was to keep the Ninja in place while we discussed a course of action, before I could return and further discuss this with the Ninja, either the Ninja escaped or was let out against my current standing orders, communication was mostly unclear. So with that, I tried to establish a task force which composed of Sslanzir Yinzr, Lukas Chapman and Legatus to try to bring in Akio, we discussed methods and exchanged other pieces of information and before they were even geared, we were informed Akio was detained, but keep in mind I never declared that order so while I had an intention for it to happen, it was never approved to people outside the group of three I previously mentioned. From what I see from other people's comments, things that I had no insight of IC'ly was that the Ninja was let out even for briefly against my orders, was then arrested by the same people disobeying standing Command orders. Hopefully this clears up a bit with the round.
  17. I think it's fine as it is, if you focus ten minute of your time, you can raise all categories to be quite high before you even need minerals. Add the fact a good miner team can get you a shipment by the 30 minute mark, you'll be golden. But I think you're argument here is essentially about mining not providing the minerals you require to go deep so to speak? I think it's intentional and a good thing, departmental cooperation is a core concept here, there's actually this saying "Should an organ fail, the body will fail", so I think we should keep it as it is, no reason to make things easier as it is.
  18. I'm also willing to donate to help ensure the longevity of the server, and would very much prefer avoid having any perks associated with donation. The act of donation should be a token of appreciation, from the enjoyment we've had on this server, because I don't think I'm the only one to think I've had more fun here than some of the AAA titles out there.
  19. So, let's start with the more OOC questions. I've actually read this application a few times but never got to replying, but better late than never right? So the answers themselves seem to be well done and well thought of, no issue on that end. The IC answers are more or less the same thing, they seem well thought out and well written, but I will comment that I may find the introverted alcoholic nature of the character to be a personal issue to me, but as I said, an issue I have but not something bad, so you're also golden on the IC aspects of this. You get a +1 from me, and hopefully you join the legion of frogmen.
  20. Ah, Munchorn, part of the shitposting trio as I call them. All jokes aside, Muncorn is one of those players you see around, where I haven't exactly seen any of their characters from interactions I've had to be cliche's, I very much find them to be pleasant a person with pleasant characters. Now, on to the application itself. I have no issues with the OOC answers themselves, they seem pretty spot on to what I expect to see in an application. The IC matters of the issue aren't very much, most have already been highlighted by Nebula, so it seems fine. Though, a few issues is the price, I still see the price itself to be a bit on the down low, maybe add 2-3 numbers to the thousand but I'm not an expert at IPC pricing, so just my observation on the matter. A second issue is also highlighted by Nebula, it wouldn't be a big stretch that minor corporations are owned by Nanotrasen, so maybe incorporate that part? Other than the above points, which aren't exactly problems but more to do with certain aspects that have intrigued me, the application seems solid, so that's a +1 from me.
  21. Tried to talk to Needle about Synthetic rights but Needle refused, later pulled out an EMP grenades. Would refuse having a "normal" discussion again.
  22. Solid player with good characters, definitely interested to see how their IPC characters turns out to be. +1 from me.
  23. Oh really? Can an admin (or mod) post and confirm what you said? Why is leaving the shield on all shift powergaming? It would be something I would do in case there was nobody to turn the shield on when the inevitable meteor storm came. Keep in mind it doesn't have to be central, it's just optimal, it could be in the bar if people wanted to. So if there's no one to turn it on that is capable, then there shouldn't have been a person capable of installing it.
  24. Generally, most tracks are composed to complement the anthem itself, I'll look something up when I've got the time.
  25. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Republic of Elyra Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 6th of December, 2399 Region of Space: Republic of Elyra controlled region of space Controlled by (if not a faction): N/A Other Snapshot information: The basics of this is that this is an anthem for the Republic of Elyra using the same form or manner as modern day anthems are, mainly in the GCC countries as I'm more familiar with them. I've also included the composer to liven it up. Long Description: Republic of Elyra Nation Anthem “Our Elyra” Live my country, for the unity of our Elyra lives To glory and greatness we march For Elyra, we have sworn to live and work For Elyra, we sweat and toil For our Elyra, we await the call From our Elder to our Children, we await the call With haste we march, for Greatness Oh my Elyra, we sacrifice for you. With our blood and soul, we stand for you. Oh my Elyra, Oh my Elyra, we are yours forever. For greatness, we strive! Long live our Elyra. Note: The Anthem was translated from Arabic to Ceti Basic and suffers from certain issues in regards of the rhythm it is recited with. Composed by Hamad Abdulrahman Hamad Abdulrahman, descendent of the early colonists from Egypt, born in the year of 2364, son to Abdulrahman and Fatmia, owners of a quiet restaurant in one of the outskirt towns in Busra. Hamad was an aspirant writer and poet from his childhood, with his poems using an Arabic form, as opposed to the Western style of poetry. Once he had graduated from high school, he had enrolled in the University of Amman, a nearby urban center, with his studies focusing on the Arabic language. Hamad Abdulrahman would go on to graduate with a Masters in Arabic Literature. Hamads initial poetry works while not amazing, had gathered him a following on his self publishing blog, titled “Al-Adeeb”. The turning point for the respect Hamad Abdulrahamn would come on the 6th of December, five days after the formation of the Republic of Elyra, where he would release one his works, which would later be said to be his best work, it was titled “Our Elyra”. Within a day of it being published, it had spread like fire, with his following changing from a few thousand to a hundreds of thousands, and then millions by the second day. He was labeled as the equivalent of Hamad Abdul-Wahab, a famous composer from 20th century Egypt. His work would later be then held to a vote and picked as a representation of their nation, their anthem. Hamad Abdulrahman would then spend most of his time giving lectures in the University of Amman before passing away in his sleep on the 28th of November 2438, a few days shy of the annual celebration of the formation of the Republic of Elyra. His funeral was decreed to be a national event, with government officials and a multitude of citizens attending the ceremony.
