Guest Menown Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Type (Species/Company/History/Other): Language! Relevant Dates: 2420-Onward Basic Description: A macaronic language based on Tau Ceti Basic and verbal Siik elements. Available for everybody, unable to be spoken by dionaea or unathi. Long Description: A result of integration, Siik'Tau is a macaronic language combining basic verbal elements of traditional Siik dialects and mixed with elements of Tau Ceti Basic. Birthed in the Tau Ceti as a result of a fleeing Tajara populace, the initial difficulties with Tau Ceti Basic were supplemented with their typical Siik vocabulary, creating a more easily understood language by Tajara and non-Tajara alike. Due to the nature of the siik elements, understanding is possible for the dionaea species and unathi, but speaking these elements is near impossible due to pitches required as well as certain mora in the linguistics itself. Characteristics to the language itself are hindered and slurred, the combination of the similar elements of both languages not outright perfect and creating an almost drunken aspect that manifests in the typical speech patterns present, much like typical Siik when relayed over the radio as well as due to the loss of the minor non-verbal characteristics to the language itself. Mofo1995 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 Bump, I endorse this and supported it when Meowy pitched it to me. It's an interesting way for human culture to seep into Tajaran culture, and I can already see the joys of slandering Tajara who speak it as traitors.
DronzTheWolf Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 This is the best idea. The greatest. I've seen many ideas in my day but this, this is one of the best.
Jakers457 Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 I can see it originating from District Six in Mendell, but a blend of the two languages so the immigrants can integrate better
Guest Menown Posted July 20, 2018 Posted July 20, 2018 I can see it originating from District Six in Mendell, but a blend of the two languages so the immigrants can integrate better That's essentially what it is.
Butterrobber202 Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 How much cross language knowledge will this give humans? I still want to be able to safely shittalk the nuggets in Sol
TheSleepyCatmom Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 It works by taking a random word of the sentence, and making it Tau Ceti, and doing another random work, and making it Siik. As far as I'm aware, anyway. I've used it and seen it used, and that's how it seems to be.
Bauser Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Does knowing Siik'Tau make it so a Basic-speaking character can understand a few words of pure Siik in-game, also?
TheSleepyCatmom Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 It does, yes. EDIT: Using the Zhan language also lets you know a little bit of Siik, since it's an offshoot.
Munks Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Other languages don't get a free human equivalent that lets everyone listen in on their conversations, I don't see why Taj should
TheSleepyCatmom Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Tajara take up a large portion of one of the districts of Mendel. It was even dubbed unofficially as 'Little Adhomai'. It makes a bit of sense. It also doesn't give a full understanding, only very minimally. Besides, this was a request. People didn't request other languages, it's unfair to go 'Well here's one lets wait for six others before making it a thing if it's a neat idea.'
Guest Menown Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Other languages don't get a free human equivalent that lets everyone listen in on their conversations, I don't see why Taj should Is that a result of the languages not being conceptualized, or outright denial? Did people go, "I don't see why that guy can roll his materials, while we carry ours" when the wheel was invented?
Alberyk Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Siik'tau can only help you understand 20% of siik'maas at all, and can't help understand any other tajaran language.
