AmoryBlaine Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) We remove all the posters and make our own. I'm starting with posters for each department. This is what I have so far. Edited October 7, 2019 by AmoryBlaine
Happy_Fox Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 (edited) Great idea to have our own - but I do like some of the posters that exist already. I've gone ahead and turned the two TCFL recruitment posters into game-sized versions: Edited October 7, 2019 by Happy_Fox

We have the capacity and the skill to make our own. Plus most of them aren't that good anyways, or relevent to the setting.

And I'm asking why. 30 minutes ago, AmoryBlaine said: It's fairly simple. All of the other ones, aren't our's. We have the capacity and the skill to make our own. Feels like a waste of old, well-done sprites and nostalgic yet timeless references to simply get rid of them.
Kaed Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Out with the old, in with the new. I feel nostalgia for the random meme posters I maybe look at once before they become visual white noise.
niennab Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 I would love to see a lot of the posters gone. I find a lot of them to be more ooc memery than anything. I think there's even a house Stark poster? Although I think it's important that if images are downsized into posters, further editing is needed. Is that writing under the department posters? The TCFL images are great as images but downsized I can't tell what they are.
wowzewow Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Honestly I think we should actually get down and actually try to sprite some good posters instead of downsizing .pngs because honestly they're illegible from a distance and look like 4th wall breaking donkey dong

AmoryBlaine Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 The writing being illegible is by design. We can't fit much writing on things, so it's better this way. Leave the words themselves to the descriptive text of each poster.
zyymurgy Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 If I may be perfectly honest I feel like the fuzzed out, super pixellated look does not mesh well with the rest of the station. The colors should be clear, crisp, and concise to get a point across. Then again, that's my preference for sprite art in general.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 These look like downscaled images and are fuzzy, without being wuzzy. If they were fresh sprites made to fit the scale they are on it would be good.
AmoryBlaine Posted October 12, 2019 Author Posted October 12, 2019 I think the majority of you fail to realize that we've got 22x28 pixels of room to make the posters. If you want to read words off them, you're not getting many words on their. Why do you think most signs are 4-6 letters long, or make up for missing words with symbols? Also, what do you think the other posters look like? They're tiny-fied photos, sometimes with SS13 stuff plastered on.
Carver Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 A majority of the pre-existing posters are custom-sprited and not condensed photos/screenshots.

wowzewow Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Posters 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 Bsposters 4,7,10,29,31,32,33,34,35,36,37,51,52,53,54,55,56,57,58 Also I'm pretty sure that text is legible.

How many of those are copypastes of the sprite onto a poster? How many of them have a word taking up 1/3rd the poster? Quote If you want to read words off them, you're not getting many words on their. Why do you think most signs are 4-6 letters long, or make up for missing words with symbols? Just in case you missed what I said. Trying to focus on what fits and is legible to us, the players, limits us. Copypasting sprites into the posters, is just lazy, especially when all that does is make 1:1 images of items, which- again- is for us, the players, for some reason. I do not see why we need a 1:1 legible and 'photorealistic' image of a burger sprite, when these are IC posters.
zyymurgy Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Images that tiny should look like the paintings in minecraft, not a fuzzed out blur, in my opinion. The style of the hand-made posters is fine, just the content is silly and doesn't fit in.

Honestly I don't see the problem with down-scaling pictures for posters, as long as it is executed right. I saya combination of down-scaling and original posters would be best.

Butterrobber202 Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 (edited) I like the idea. But for the 4 posters you posted armory, can you change their background from tiles to something abit more... idk aesthetically pleasing? The Staff Members in departmental color background with the text would look better than the floor tiles. Edited October 14, 2019 by Butterrobber202
