For the love of all that is holy, we need to rework how being sideways affect players.

Aurorastation is the only relevant server that I know that has this issue.

If you're sideways, you can't interact with anything.

You can't use items. You can't use your PDA. You can't interact with your hardsuit interface. You can't move. You can't touch items or anything.

When you're sideways, you somehow lose all motor functions.

It doesn't matter if you're resting, stunned, paralyzed, or anything. You cannot interact with anything. This issue has existed for a century on Aurora but because of new brainmed, it's become significantly worse and more detrimental.

This really needs to change. Again, Aurora is the only relevant server I know that has this issue.

Do you mean unconsciousness or just being floored?

Also you can crawl.

Click-dragging crawl is pretty bad and clunky. The suggestion here is that it needs to be overhauled like other modern servers.

Fair enough.

While I think our current horizontal state is fine, that being that it's a punishment to be in that state, allowing you to crawl by using the WASD or arrow keys seems like QoL to me. Oh, also, you can use your PDA while horizontal by click dragging its sprite somewhere.

Do you have a suggestion for possible actions while willingly resting?

I think you're asking the wrong questions here. You should take a look at /tg/ and see how they handle it.

On /tg/ you can use any item and interact with any item you want as long as you're not in paincrit or something. Eceptions apply to high up objects like computers, machines, fire alarms, ect.

So basically. Make lying down not an indicator of being stunned (as it is now), but simply a valid state of interaction.

Rather, I'd say make it both. If you're laying down cause you were stunned, yes: have the things on your hand drop and all that. If you're laying down cause you buckled yourself to a bed or used the rest verb, allow you to handle items and use them. So, ideally, you can willingly lay down and have something in hand, but suddenly someone prods you with a stunbaton and switch to stunned mode, dropping what you have in hand.

Be aware of the 'combat crawler meme'. When crawling was first introduced in bay, people abused it to power game to no end - Crawling around and under combatants so they they couldn't be shot without friendly fire while push spamming everyone around them, and abusing the speed at which you could crawl originally. Bay devs ended up electing to severely limit speed while crawling and remove the ability to still carry items and interact with things/people while crawling for balance reasons to counteract this.

That seems absurdly easy for admins to see and ban on the spot. If it's really such a concern, I would prefer say, a massive accuracy debuff while laying down, rather than removing the ability to handle items at all.

Burgerstation has a method around this where bullets have a 100% chance to hit someone if they're being directly targeted (clicked on the tile that the laying person is standing on) to prevent crawling memes. I suggest implementing the same thing.

I would expect our playerbase to be a bit more trustworthy than Bay's. Though, one probably shouldn't be able to move fast on the floor anyways possibly excluding racial bonuses for something like Vaurca.

Alternatively can make bullets have similar chance to pass through conscious, resting mobs anyway.

I'd rather not see the only valid option for civilians and other sorts caught in a crossfire nerfed.
