[ACCEPTED] Robotic Potato's Command Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Robotic Potato
Character names:
Stella Palmero - Warden
Ada Keita - Priest
Adler Abt - Quartermaster (Relatively New)
Ward Halleck - Paramedic (Haven't really play him much recently)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since about January of this year.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mainly I want this whitelist due to my interest in Consular Officer/Corp Rep. I feel like both roles have a lot of potential for characters with a bit more unique goals and roleplay opportunities. That being said I do have an interest in the Head of Staff part as well, though I'm unsure if I have much intention to play it during my trial.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora mainly after being introduced to a few lore elements which I really though made the setting unique. Personally I think the setting of the Aurora its self is a bit boring, but the universe greatly interests me. I feel there's not a lot of retreading and there's lot of cultures which have interesting perspectives which also have ample opportunity for conflict and interaction with each other.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Aside from a sort of verbal warning once regarding going easier on some Mercs who had been holding Medbay hostage and killed personnel; yes I did have one warning which I contested and was removed.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:
I believe roleplay is a sort of state of mind; in which you put yourself in the perspective of another person/character, taking into account every factor of them to attempt to emulate how they might really act. Roleplaying isn't making a cool character, it's interaction. You can write up a cool profile all day, but what it really comes down to is putting yourself in that character's headspace and being able competently portray them. In all aspects, not just being a likable, but understanding flaws and prejudices a character would reasonably form. Roleplaying is not winning or losing, it's the interactions you have with the world and other players. Of course those this must all also be juggled with the fact this is still a game and taken into account.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:
The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff I see it to attempt to embody what is widely seen ideal for a department, and to help control of the course of your department not just in the IC sense but to shape the experience of everyone playing under you into something unique to yourself, and of course provide experience to other players in your department. As a Head of Staff you're one of the major factors which controls a sizable amount of player's experience almost similar to an antag. (Because you want to grief everyone of course.) Really though, as a Head of Staff you set the tone for the department in your round, depending on your choices someone may do something entirely different, or new than their normal experience.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:
The OOC responsibilities of a Head of Staff are very similar to its purpose as I see it. As a Head of Staff it's your duty to be able to competently perform most duties in your department, not to be able to do them all, but to act as a guide to the players below you. A Head of Staff must also try to be inclusive to every player; now before you mistake my wording that is to say: of course character differences are a thing. For clarity, as a Head of Staff you should be able to fluidly interact, roleplay that is to say, with everyone in your department and beyond. Going back to my earlier assertion that as a Head of Staff you should provide a unique environment that's not to say every round has to be special but it has to have your own charm which you share with everyone.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?
I'm going to style this in sort of how my character sees the current events in Tau Ceti then a straight regurgitation of what's happening because I'm dumb.

Currently, Tau Ceti is on the edge of crisis. A Republic founded on the principles of freedom, finds its self strangled by what uplifted it once. Now, with the strain on the flow of the phoron which has elevated it has now become its crux, and with this old enemies now refocus their attention on the once burgeoning republic. It remains to be seen if it can hold from not only its internal strife, but the newly intensified external pressure from the malefactors who wish to exploit this drying oasis. Namely, the threat of Sol imperialist, which were once held back by the flow of the live giving substance.

It is for this reason I have been assigned the prestigious duty as a Consular Officer of the Coalition to Nanotrasen, particularly the NSS Aurora. Noted to be a hotbed of many a rising conflict, it is a microcosm of the Republic: a melting pot spiced not only with its own employees which vary widely in their background, but contractors which vary even more widely in their agendas and motive. Here I am honored to showcase and nurture all of the finest cadres which have lent their manpower to this fledgling Republic, and the unity and freedom brought by the Coalition. Here it is my duty to show the Republic and its benefactor how strong it could be with Gadpathur, that we are not as different as it may seem; that we have faced similar adversity. This duty to Gadpathur brings me pleasure which can not be matched by anything else: to show all we will not be forgotten or martyred, that Gadpathur's people will not be overcame once more.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Consular Officer

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.:
Yen Nguyen - Coalition of Colonies Consular Officer
Adler Abt - Head of Personnel (May not immediately move him.)

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I could 'inflate' myself all day about my own roleplay but I'd rather you take it to my DMs. ;) Really though, I'd rate myself as competent but I don't put much stock in that. I'd much prefer to be rated on how others see it.(AKA the point of this app.)

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes.

Extra notes: N/A

I don't exactly have too much to say about this because well, I just had an experience with your character. I was playing Julian Chet and in the 20 minutes I met your character it was quite impressive. I'm on the unlucky side when it comes to RP where I can only get into the game not the character, so my character halfway through just becomes an avatar, but this isn't about me heh. It's about you, and I can respect your RP and character design. I feel like I'd love to see your consular officer on the station, you get a +1 from me any day really.

I've played with Potato for almost 2 years now and I like how they always have a firm grip on the setting and/or the lore of the system/server they're playing on, and their characters are always up to standards, in particular Stella Palmero. They don't shy away from getting mean looks their way just because they're an Eridani suit, and do not compromise from the standards of portraying a realistic suit to appease players. Although Warden isn't particularly a "Command" level leadership spot, I've seen them manage the Security department well at times where it lacks proper guidance, and I'm sure they can successfully integrate into a Command position. +1

I have had my disagreements with Robotic in the past, but having played with them and seen them play in a fair few rounds on Aurora -- both as their consular Nguyen and their warden Palmero -- I can easily give them a +1. I can only second the above poster in that their consular got me very interested in Gadpathur.
