geeves Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 I am making an attempt to bring some colour back into the items we have, and figured it'd probably be a good idea to gather feedback on the colours I used, so here it is. Lemme know what you think of it.
wowzewow Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 i don't really understand why you want to do this, i colored them this way so they'd have consistent device colors. that aside, i feel these colors are a little oversaturated. i feel that their ability to match other plain clothing will be hindered. i also find it quite arbitrary to change these colors to the reverted wristbound colors. again, if you really wanted to re-color them, use the softcap colors for consistency's sake
geeves Posted October 8, 2020 Author Posted October 8, 2020 I want to do this because I want to reintroduce colour into the game, as the original post states. Oversaturation isn't an issue, because the majority of these do not have massive on-mob sprites. In fact, they just make it clearer to see what the hell it is, because it's color-coded now. I quite liked the colours of the wristbounds, and I fully intend to see them pass. The reason why your PR went through was because of colour consistency, so I am introducing my own colour consistency. No, I am tweaking the palette slightly to make them not fit clothing exactly. These are the device colours.
niennab Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 These look amazing and allow for more flavor between the departments. I'll also take any and every excuse to reintroduce colour back into this game.
The Stryker Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I think coloring the antenna of the headset (medical, science, robotics, especially) kind of takes away from the layering look that you can see on the command headsets. Perhaps try a darker shade if you want to stick with the colored antenna?
TrainTN Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I don't think the entire headset needs the color, just the main earpiece, especially in regards to the bowmans.
Carver Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Yeah the bowmans look like a bit smattering of colour, it doesn't work well. I'd say the antennae and microphone parts of the normal headsets could also easily remain uncoloured and it would make the whole deal feel less overdone.
Sheeplets Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) I'd like to see more color added back into the game as well but I don't think this is the place to add it. Earpieces in my own opinion are accessories that aren't intended to be eye-catching at the cost of clashing with other colors, especially since a lot of people here enjoy expressing their characters through fashion beyond department colors. I'm aware that the on-person sprites are a few pixels but I base my thinking on how I'd imagine an actual person wearing them would look with a neon colored box strapped to the side of their head. Making them subtly distinct and unique at a glance without attracting attention feels like a better avenue to take, and I like the iterations we have now even if they could use minor tweaks in and of themselves. Again, this is all just my own opinion. I'm not trying to get on you or discourage you. Please don't jump my shit. Edited October 9, 2020 by UncleJo
geeves Posted October 21, 2020 Author Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) I've adjusted the colouration to make it slightly less flashy. Lemme know what you think. Edited October 21, 2020 by geeves
geeves Posted October 21, 2020 Author Posted October 21, 2020 received more feedback, adjusted the service headset
DronzTheWolf Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Why do we even have mining headsets if miners spawn with the basic cargo headset anyway?
The Stryker Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 While I'm fine with the current headsets, the new adjustments make them better, especially with the non-colored antenna and microphones.
Amunak Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 Love it, especially the fact that the only colored parts are those that actually make sense colored. Now if we also had colored PDAs... Also, ideally you could make a palette with master colors and shades to pick from so that other sprites know what to use and don't need to use caps and whatnot as reference.
Carver Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Love the adjustments, solved all my worries. Haven't a complaint left.
