[Accepted] HunterRS's Whitelist App Trial 2

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: HunterRS

Character names: Edgar Dawnguard, Ashley Dawnguard, Starting to play the AI Athena

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I have been on for about a year now but was inactive for about 6 months... but I am back now

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I would like to be on the whitelist because I feel like I would be a good RD because I have had multiple shifts where I am the interim RD and it worked out well

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came on Aurora because I was bored and looking for a server to stick too

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Of course

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the interaction of two or more peoples characters that they create. Roleplay is fun for all and it shouldn't be a thing to get mad about. After all it's just a game. Roleplay should be fun for all parties, and it shouldn't add OOC sources to changed characters. If a character doesn't like it they should ask for help during it.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the purpose of heads of staff are to keep their department running and active, and in the case of an emergency, be an acting captain to deal with a threat. The heads of staff should be able to stay calm during crisis situations and be able to control the station if needed to. Heads of staff should be able to be trusted by the people and be friendly. They should be supposed to be looked upon but all members of thier department and be someone to ask for new people if they have and questions like how to work toxins so they don't kill everyone.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the OOC responsibilities of whitelisted players are to stay calm and not get upset. Whitelisted players should be a role model for people to look up to. I would uphold these because I am mostly calm unless you get me mad, which is really hard. I like to help people around and show them if they don't understand.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Edgar Dawnguard

Character age: 37

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Edgar was born into a large family on Mars, with two brothers and a sister, him being the oldest. Edgars parents were engineers, designing and making ways to pressurize areas on Mars cheaply. Edgar always wanted to create and innovate items to help people. He always was with his family making new ideas for his parents to try out. When he was in school in excelled in math and science. Edgar always had a joking way to mess with people. Edgar was the comedy of his family, making funny gadgets to pull pranks on people for a joke. Edgar graduated high school and was offered a scholarship at Mars University where he attended college.

Edgar went to Lowell City College for four year, going to obtain a Masters in Robotics, wanting to make new machine and gadgets to help the quality of life. After his second year he was offered an internship as a roboticist. He agreed and was in the position while he completed his course, after Graduating he was offered a position aboard a research station by NanoTrason. He agreed and liked how it was organized and the security of the stations. He worked there for a few years and wondered how alien lifeforms worked to broaden is way on how robotics worked. As he worked there there he made many synthetics, including something have gone rogue. He has helped fuel the free synth debate by created synthetics to work for station. He questioned his line of work on how he is destroying jobs, but he continued work nonetheless, still questioning the ethnic of making robots to destroy jobs and take people's lives.

He went to Mars University and attended there for 8 years, making a deal with NanoTrason to extend his contract in for the company to pay for his tuition. Years into his studies to started working interns on various stations and labs, experimenting. When he graduated he started working as both a Xenobiologist and a Roboticist. He was then transferred to the NSS Aurora before it was decommissioned for refitting. He was then transferred to the NSS Exodus, where he has caught up with his friends and family.

What do you like about this character?: I like Edgar because he likes to mess around with people and play jokes. He would stay calm during crisis situations, no matter what. Edgar is one of my favorite characters. He has made a lot of friends on Aurora and always has a friendly attitude.

What do you dislike about this character?: One of the major things I dislike about Edgar is his ability to get arrested for small reasons. Since he likes to mess around when nothing is going on it tends to get him in trouble. At least once every three rounds Edgar is in the brig for some odd reason.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think Edgar would fit because he is mostly calm and can be very calm in crisis situations. He likes to stay positive, even during crisis situations, he would help out the people stay calm.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I think my roleplaying had gotten better over the few months I was gone and that I am here to stay now.

Extra notes: I did this all on one round, just something to add 95b65b960158461db5fa77b05c26fbdc.png

This seems fairly solid, and I've seen you ingame quite often (Though I've never interacted with you much) and you look like you'll make a decent head, from both that and this app.

I'll +1 this quite happily.

Note: You have a redundancy at the bottom, may want to fix that. Also a few spelling errors here and there.

Going from my own interactions and what is written here, Dawnguard seems a bit dull as far as characters go, and some parts of this application are pretty sparse. My IC interactions with Dawnguard have been pretty OK, but there is one thing that worries me on that front. Dawnguard doesn't really seem to be take his job or the station very seriously. While that is fine in general, it is hard for me to imagine someone who, as you describe it, "likes to mess around with people and play jokes" would be promoted a to a command level position. Sure, he always seem calmish in crises, but as far as Bard has been able to tell this derives from his severe fucks-given deficit, rather than some staunch and stalwart inner core. For what it is worth, though, I am fairly certain that Hunter's OOC knowledge of science is pretty solid. Not sure if I really want to give this a -1, but I don't really want to give it a +1 either. I just wanted to register my ambivalence, as his coworker.

And Hunter, I think a lot of what I said would change if you added something to the backstory you have laid out here, so that Dawnguard couldn't just be summarized as a smart, funny guy that does science. Sorry if this seems a bit harsh.

Vile, I changed a bit of his backstory, forgot to change that part, will change. Edgar likes to have fun with people, but if someone is working he won't, like if he is at the bar with someone, they will hang out and mess around. Sorry for the confusion, I will change that.

I don't have a problem with Dawnguard because he lets out the slimes, whether or not that is a thing. Dr. Bard has been cannon-killed by slimes and cloned once, and now he is deathly afraid of the things. I only rarely go down to xenobiology. It is a small part of his responsibilities, and the fear is kinda fun to roleplay anyway. Dawnguard can find some way to work around it, I am sure. Just as long as he doesn't personally let out the slimes as an RD it will all be fine.

I have looked back at your story with its edits. First, it is Nanotrasen (or NanoTrasen), not NanoTreson. Not a huge thing, but if you say that IC people will laugh. Second, the obvious thing that it is missing is any conflict at all. You don't need something major, like some "my parents died when I was five" shtick. It can be very minor, in the grand scheme of things. But there should be something that your character is struggling with, or wants to change about themself or the world. As things stand now, you seem to be telling the story of a happy young boy who likes technology, goes to college, rises up the corporate ladder, and becomes an RD. That basic progression isn't objectionable. But there needs to be some conflict of some kind, somewhere.

I think this could use a little expanding upon. Keep in mind that while making a department run smoothly, stepping up in emergencies, and being trustworthy are all IC purposes/expectations of a Head of Staff, the question above is not necessarily asking about any of that. Most of what we play through as characters are extraordinary circumstances, and the people in your department end up having to follow your direction, by virtue of your IC authority.

If it's not too much of a pain to indulge me, consider answering these questions instead:

"What do I enable other players to do, as a Head of Staff? Why am I important to them in my position?"

You can be the reason people have a fun round or a painful one, depending on what you do and how you do it.

I have changed my background a bit to add a bit of an block in his life, let me know how you think.

Edgar used to be a canonically terrible Xenobiologist with the amount of times he ended up releasing the slimes during extended rounds but he's vastly improved since then, enough to be RD? Not sure.

I have learned from my mistakes and figured out how to do it almost with no flaws

I've seen them a lot and one thing I will say is stop releasing the damn slimes! I saw you nearly die 6 rounds in a row because you kept getting almost eaten. I dont know your RP skill that well, no real interaction but your xenobiology is weak from what I have seen.

I haven't released slimes in a month

ive been avoiding giving feedback for a while because edgar is a shit and keeps releasing slimes i dont want to see more crap heads of staff, but i've seen him as an

intern RD and he did not display any of the red flags i usually see on bad heads.

my first memories of edgar was waaay back, he was the number 1 source of xeno outbreaks, fast forward a few months after bay code switch, edgar is back with even more xeno outbreak, he ahelped once asking for help with xenobio. i gave him some tips and tricks i used, and im not sure if my tips did actually help him, but he did lower his morality rate in the lab significantly.

while i do not play science frequently ever. i am not not that well versed with edgar's ways of handling people inside his department, but the dozen times ive walked to the RnD desk while edgar was inside he was always less than thrilled to be of help, and was just trying to get rid of me, while this isn't exactly bad, it doesn't really portray the picture you have in your character story of him wanting to help people. but compared to way back when you made your first head of staff app, you've improved a lot. i don't hear people complaining about him other than on xenobiology.

as a head of staff you need to very communicative, talk with your department, always know what they're up to, and inform command of any relevant information they may need to know, be ready to help when people require your expertise,

while i do not believe you are a glove fit to be a head of staff, i believe you have big enough feet to walk in the boots without having them fall off, long enough to grow into them.

do not disappoint me, +1

Well, I've thought about this for a while now. I think Edgar might be good enough for the role of Director, I'm not so sure about Ashley being eligible to be HoS just yet. I'm going to give this application a +1 under the pretense you're going to continue on and learn, and with that to hopefully improve. I think my opinion in this matter is similar to many other people that have commented in this thread, and I'm not really pleased with your story, as I feel like being a xenobiologist and a roboticist all in one might be a bit too much, along with the "synthetics going rogue" and building "free synthetics to work" parts. Other than that, I don't really see anything that bothers me. Furthermore, OOC'ly, I don't really have any issue with you and you seem to get along with people in this community.

So, a +1 from me.

This app is mostly for Edgar since I have played him since I joined the server, Ashley was after.

Thank you both for the replies, I appreciate it a lot.

HunterRS is one of a kind roleplayer. He tends to want to roleplay and involve the crew in. Unlike others, he strays away from violence and wants people involved in roleplay...To roleplay. Judging from this thread and OP edited several times. I believe it is safe to assume that he shows determination and persistence in wanting to become a Head of Staff. Though, I do not interact with Dawnguards often, however I have roleplayed with him during a Merc. Ops. His first intention was not to ever resort to violence unless you ABSOLUTELY sure it is necessary to to resort to violence. HunterRS, specifically Edgar Dawnguard, would show great progress as Research Director.

I look forward to seeing you being a Head of Staff.

not too interested in shilling

little powergame-y, not bad to the point of it mattering as R&D is nothing but a circlejerk but there's the perfectionist aspect alongside the even worse will to use the equipment they make.

it's guns that he makes. pretty sure paperwork isn't too big on the agenda during elevated codes, as responsibility seems to be less pressing. he's pretty interested in handing out those guns.

believe he's also really overly interested in durands as well, but so are lots of people.

lots of interim positions based on authority figures in game OOCly knowing him or his character, believe he even voiced the fact of the matter over looc once very recently. (day or two ago?)

plays aggressively. little bit more than hints of disregard for general safety or moderated routines

could easily be someone else with these habits but i'm not currently under the impression i'm mistaken as a lot of this is witnessed over his very numerous recent playtime hours

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

but he's alright i guess

he'd make a decent RD personality among the grey faces
