Give security basic department access to science, medical, etc

Simple enough.

You ever ask yourself why the cleaning man has more access than corporate security who's job is to protect assets and crew station wise?

Are you tired of medical crying out for help and security officers having to either baton the doors open or scream like a pack of retarded howler monkeys until the AI (Who's probably AFK), head of staff who is probably missing and or the janitor itself?

Basic department access would basically be the entrance area of medical, science, engineering and the cargo lobby area with the ordering console.

Lets put an end to

"H-H-H-HELP S-S-SURGERY!"

*Security attempts to do response because someone was patrolling by the door*

You can take my cleaner, my bucket, and my freedom, but you'll never take my access!!

(Seriously though, letting Sec access the medbay halls seems like a good idea.)

I'll go play the unpopular opinion and say I'd really rather security not have access to go where they want, in my past experiences, when security feels they're in the right (regardless of how much need there actually is for them to be inside the department) then they make it a massive ordeal to finally get them out of medical, but since they need to rely on you (aka me) to actually get around, not to mention inside the department in the first place, it forces them to actually convince you that they should be in there.

TL;DR Security is a bunch of assholes and I'd rather they not have easy access to medical just so they can catch dat crim'nal faster because they'll linger inside the department.

If sec boys continue to loiter around in your department, you have all rights as head of staff to tell them to fuck off, especially if it's yours

If they continue to be a pain in the ass, just ahelp it and they'll get jobbanned my dude

we've already discussed this and said NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

but if we do have this implanted, i want security to be charged with trespass if they dont have a warrant or someone actually calling for help and are just strolling around.

or give the warden a emergency access card dispenser, a 5 times use ID card, kind of like an emag/guest pass with certain access, after being used too many times it breaks and you need to explain to the warden/HoS where you spent your card and for what purpose.

what this'll do is force them to only get into departments when they really need to, ofcourse these wouldnt work on high security areas.

I support the idea, on the basis that it becomes code specific. Code green, sure, you still need help getting in but it stops unwarranted stuff from happening too.

Code blue should allow for basic access to departments, as stated above.

Now I don't wanna say full access for red, but if it is red, then you're probably assisting the station in some way anyway so the basic access should probably do.

sure then. go for it.

Engineers get basic access to Research and Medical and the Brig for repairs too, right? Or is it just for muh PvP valids?

Nah, its just for muh pvp valids. I'm against it as a card ID. We need some better method, like department posted guards or push-button doorbells that the department head gets a PDA beep and can remotely buzz in whoever's at the door.

In fact, a push-button door would allow any character access with a head's approval, making it ideal for letting engineers in to fix the power or buzzing wounded through the medbay lobby.

ah yes, demonizing a certain section of the playerbase because "muh pvp valids" is somehow considered an argument versus how it'd benefit the non-antagonist portion of the station to make security response more streamlined and effective.

clearly not a matter of department bias whatsoever.

Like..... Security checkpoints in departments? Where that officer gets access to that department, and his own office? Instead of aimlessly walking around the station?

that would require an incredible amount of mapping effort. and no one wants to do map work for the exodus.

this is different from, say, changing the code for security officer IDs to be granted basic access to areas. which would not affect mapping a whole lot because it's just a matter of if access to X area is true, then airlock opens. If false, you get flashing bolt lights and a buzzing noise.

i'd be fine with the access only being granted on code blue. engineers could easily benefit from this too and receive more or less of the same additional access to basic areas for repairs. same with EMTs.

I mean, just take hippe map and implant it into our server. Not hard.... And shit, I would map the damn thing if it would save me asking the blasted AI to open the door. It also allows the Officer to interact with waaay more people, instead of his Security buddys. Perhaps the Officer would also get a radio with the departments channel, the idea comes with endless things to do

Sure, I'm biased toward my department. I think all characters should get a new gameplay mechanic rather than some characters get a new degree of freedom. We all know there's times when the librarian really, really, really needs to get the medbay door open. While we add a means for security to get the door open, lets make it a fixture to the map that anyone can get the door open, notably, a button that pages the department head's PDA, which can then present a link the department head can authorize or decline based on the ID reported and that head's whim.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

i dont think you understand the issue with mapping. you need stable and compatible code to support the map.

we cannot just rip hippiestation's dmm, port it for our own and call it a day. Same issue with the new map. It's basically done, yes, but the code needs to be finished before it's even remotely able to be released right now given some of the features.

nikov there's a fine line of difference between providing suggestions and decent quality feedback and just whinging and whining over stuff you dislike. people are more likely to be receptive to more progressive language and a focus on being productive.

This can be said for all departments with needs to accomplish their duties.

I can say that Engineers needs basic department access to science, medical, etc. to repair.

I can say that Medical needs basic department access to science, security, etc. to treat wounded.

I can say that Robotics needs basic science department to drop off materials or Science Department needs Basic Cargo Bay access to pick up materials.
