Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 For the sake of OOC understanding and accessibility even the IC'ly advanced interfaces and equipment in medical are just a single button to use. If we add emotes from the machines that show what you're doing is complex - like the steps in surgery - it would let players better comprehend the level of complexity of what they are doing and if their character is able to do it. Cloning [scan corpse] 'NAME scans the brain's neural pathways with the mental interface and prepares to save the neural information.' [clone record]'NAME matches the genetic code to the neural scan and reconstructs the brain activity for the new body.' Cryo and Sleeper [turning on cryo tube]'NAME navigates the cryo-tube console menu, activating its advanced life support functions.' [doing anything with a sleeper]'NAME hits a button on the sleeper's context menu.'
witchbells Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 Needles should involve searching for veins. This is actually a really fun topic! As far as I know, most injections given in medical will be intramuscular injections. This is because intramuscular injections have no downsides aside from a slower delivery rate, and in comparison to intravenous injections, are far less hassle. The only exceptions would be vaccines (which require subcutaneous injections) and sedative medications. Sedatives will work through an intramuscular injection, but on most occasions, a sedative is something you will want working quickly, so an intravenous injection is used.
Dreamix Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I've wrote about something similar before. The whole emotes thing could be extended to everything, they could also be randomized from a pool of little flavor texts so don't quickly become boring, or even procedurally generated. Like chemistry: "NAME mixes x with y", "NAME dilutes a solution of x with a moderately sized y sample" or "NAME user extracts x from the test tube".
Superiorform Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I thought this suggestion had already been made. Add it to chemistry, so it doesn't seem just like pressing a button and knowing what two liquids to mix. Also add to RnD. "Cathryn Latham breaks down the nano-manipulator, analysing its contents, and guiding the computer to create a new blueprint." Also add to lawing and carding synthetics. Also add to assembling robots and mechs. Also add to... many things.
Ornias Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 +1 a thousand times over. More roleplay stuff on a roleplay server, thanks. But like Superiorform said, I don't get why it's restricted purely to medical stuff. Science and engineering in particular are constantly used by people who wouldn't reasonably have the knowledge (deconstructing doors, walls, windows, etc.).
NoahKirchner Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 No idea how to mark threads so that I get notifications about replies so instead I'm going to reply to the thread with a comment that doesn't actually really mean anything but looks semi-coherent and reasonable. (Oh and +1)
TrickingTrapster Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 This looks like fun. I assume, as with the new medical job ruling, that this is currently only for medical to make a start in it, and to expand this to the other departments later. I wholely support this, so people can actually question wtf you're doing when you're doing something super complicated.
UnknownMurder Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Morty. Morty, listen *burp* to me. What I am doing is goi *burp* super complicated. You follow me, Morty? I am going to extract this DNA and insert this DNA into where your doo doo goes. You follow me, Morty? Morty, *burp* you listening? MORTY! Aw geez, Rick. +1
Butterrobber202 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 [Name] taps the Cryotube's Control Panel as liquid fills the tube. [Name] taps the Scanner Bed's Control Panel, starting a scan. [Name] activates the Sleeper's Medical Scanner and Injection Ports. [Name] does medical things.
LordBalkara Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 It would make it clearer to people what they should and shouldn't know how to do. +1
climax708 Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 That's great! Flavour is always a good thing in a hiRP server. I am not sure if flooding everyone in your vicinity with a log of your actions is really necessary though. Perhaps show this text only to the character doing the action?
NoahKirchner Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 That's great! Flavour is always a good thing in a hiRP server. I am not sure if flooding everyone in your vicinity with a log of your actions is really necessary though. Perhaps show this text only to the character doing the action? The only places where I really see this being an issue are chemistry, because of the constant button pushing, giving injections because people always click 3 times in a row, and MAYBE in sleepers because you normally give more than one dose of a medicine at a time. I think the flavour text's RNG for those actions in particular should have more empty rolls so that pressing a button in the sleeper's context menu showing is only likely to happen a few times (If any) after the initial flavour text shows.
Asheram Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 I'll +1 this one if only for the ability for others to see what you are actually doing. I do fear that this will end up spamming the interface though if it's implemented for something usually done repeatedly.
