A character complaint is currently up against the subject of this Incident Report and as such this report will be put on hold until there is a decision as to which the administration would like to pursue. The complaint at hand may be found here if you would like to provide your input: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=35&p=84158

Engineering is lucky enough to have alarm monitors which cover most every critical system they might need to repair. I'd say many engineers, similarly to medical when crew actually have their sensors on, will be spotting those issues before anyone even yells out about it over radio. However, this obviously doesn't apply to damages which haven't resulted in a breach or damaged cameras, but I think those sorts of damages are minor enough that a walk over to engineering or sending the message through the heads of staff/AI wouldn't hurt much. PDA's, of course, always remain an option. As for the suit sensors thing, yeah the randomization of their status on start does usually cause a lot of people to neglect them, but even now there are plenty of AI's, heads and medical staff who like to hound the crew about enabling them. I'd imagine many crew feel more comfortable ignoring that message because of the leeway the common frequency gives them for getting help even without them. If suit sensor were to begin playing a greater role in ensuring survival without that crutch, more people would PROBABLY be likely to enable them on reminders.

I don't believe there would be any major problems with medical or sec response so long as they were actually competent. A system like this just makes it so afking at the desk all shift is no longer all that viable, you need to be proactive. Make the rounds of the departments and check in face to face, divide up the team and have guards assigned to watch over certain departments. As for medical, suit sensors save lives, they'd just be all the more important here. As a paramedic, half the time you're already responding to calls based off of suit sensors or coordinating with the AI to locate someone. I don't see that changing much here, common freq medical calls are rarely descriptive of location. Past that, I really don't think the station would feel all that barren from this change, you can't walk ten feet without tripping over someone 80% of the time and even in deadhour there's places where crew congregate. And intercoms.

If command want to establish an emergency channel for the easier distribution of critical information then great. But it's something that takes some effort and coordination to pull off which will limit its implimentation enough to make this system still feel like a major change. Enforcing rules against the overuse of an emergency channel is something that actually makes sense for security to do and will most likely gather more support from the crew. Arbitrarily telling the crew to stop using our current iteration of the common channel for non-critical information is idiotic and won't ever be enforced simply because no one would want to. We have regs which apply to the general frequency already but it's mainly for people spamming or providing misinformation.

I don't know, maybe I'm expecting too much but I would think that this would encourage people to seek out other characters and interact in person or setup events and activities to keep themselves interested. As they wouldn't be able to just sit around and talk shit over the general freq, interaction would need to be a bit more proactive. Even still, if the common channel was kept for intercoms, it would be possible to have a conversation through them but it would just limit your ability to move around. Once again, incentivizing a face to face conversation instead.

This Incident Report is being closed as the subject of it has received a permanent ban from the server following the closure of a recent Player Complaint filed against them. The complaint in reference may be found here: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=8968 Locking and moving.

I'd like to see this, both for the convenience of it and in order to reinforce the status held by command personnel. The significance of the captain's presence is well translated by the unique way the crew is notified of it. I don't think all of the command ranks necessarily need their own sounds, but simply making the text larger would signify their importance and eliminate the issues raised here.

[Resolved] Player Complaint - Biabri
whiterabit replied to ClearThoughts's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
An Incident Report was also filed on this situation, and the link to it will be provided below. We don't typically like to double down on both IC and OOC action against a player/character, so one will most likely end up dropped. I'll speak with the administration and see which they'd like to have pursued. Although given the history, the player complaint may be the most appropriate. [Resolved] Character Complaint - jmj99/Ashley Jaeger
whiterabit replied to Munks's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Funnily enough, I've seen Jaeger stalking my own unathi character throughout the halls on a few occasions. I wasn't aware that it was a recurring thing, but in my experience, Jaeger does like to use the "fucking liggers killed my mother" to start shit. However, my only experiences with it have been during their bouts as traitor, which I think should give some leniency to the behavior. Whether or not they actually act in the same manner during any canon interaction is another story. While I personally think the whole interaction is pretty lazy, so long as it's kept to antag activity I don't really see it being a great problem. -
((I closed this a while back, didn't realize this thread was still up.))

I've actually been very interested in a system like this for a while. I feel like things would be a lot more interesting by removing the common channel from most crew headsets. Intercomms as of right now have basically zero purpose outside of tcomm failures and something like this would allow them to actually serve enough of a purpose to be littered around the station. I don't believe the current ease of transmitting information to the whole station is necessarily a good thing, and requiring some greater coordination would at the very least make the rounds much more interesting. Less "help maint getting succ", more effort and coordination between people to get assistance, something I think could help develop a bond between crew. I honestly like the idea that the dynamic for interdepartmental communication could be changed from "; engineering to medical" to actually needing to go contact them in person or, if required, send the request through command or the AI. At the very least I'd love to see this trialed. If it doesn't work, then revert.

As a note, Siko Kizi will not be investigated due to their involvement as an antag.
