  1. I can not in good faith support this suggestion either. I have been both on the giving end and receiving end of parapens. They take a good chunk of your telecrystals and can be stopped by armor. It's one of the few tools that antagonists have that allow them to utilize non-lethal methods - granted it does knock Vaurca into medium crit - and thus allows assumingly non-gank related gimmicks. To nerf something because of pure dislike for a certain roleplay situation that occurred from them is stupid, and the entire 'instant stun removal' thing can also be debatable. Some things make sense, some do not. Flashbangs, for example, should knock you flat on your ass if you're not protected. But that is not the point of this suggestion. Regardless, -1 for this. I can't support taking one of the last non-lethal weapons/tools a traitor has as it will just encourage gank more.
  2. Could perhaps say the helmet is like, plastic or some other non-bulletproof material? Helps prevent against bumping your head against rubble or the likes but won't help if someone decides to put a bullet/laser in you? Similar to the paramedic helmets in the UK, won't stop a bullet but can help with certain blunt force.
  3. I suggested moving it upstairs since having a second briefing room is redundant, and the gym is useless. The upper level is hardly ever used. The 'break room' currently is literally just a cigarette room and cubical office. This is more of a break room now if we make the change instead of some office that looks like it's for paperwork.
  4. Bob is actually fully useless. We decided to bring him out of engineering one round to try and get some plating filled with floor tiles. It just sat there beeping, didn't even fix the damned tiles. It's utterly useless even when someone tries to use it.
  5. If you want to map some drafts that's fine by me, I have no clue how to actually do mapping so having someone who can would be nice.
  6. Currently, there is an upper Z-level within the brig. It is split into two parts, the theory wing, and the investigation wing. There is a little narrow maintenance corridor that connects the two. I have multiple ideas to put together into a sort of rework to improve the investigation division and remove some redundancy and improve the brig. The theory wing of the brig is rarely if at all used. There is no real point in having a gym given there is the holodeck. The forensics training room is never used since cadets and officers tend not to attempt to work in such fields and the theory training room is utterly useless with a briefing room downstairs. This is the current briefing room. And this is the theory wing upstairs, useless when you have such a large room downstairs right? What I suggest is two major changes to the brig. First, I propose that we remove the lower entrance to the investigations division, perhaps expanding the evidence storage into the little gap left or making it into a small auxiliary office like medical has to file autopsy reports or such. This allows for the next part of this first suggestion to flesh out the upper z-level more. In place of it, I suggest that the little maintenance tunnel between the two is removed and instead is replaced with a small hallway to it. This honestly would feel a bit more streamlined rather than a small little corner off somewhere in the side of the brig away from everywhere else. The second part of the suggestion is to remove the gym and theory room and replace it with a break room for the security department. Currently all major departments have a break room, even supply, while security is left with a cigarette machine and some steel chairs. It would be better to have the theory room and gym room combined into somewhere staff are able to grab a drink or snack like any other department is able to. This might just give it more use into the Z-level instead of just sitting there and gathering dust. This was a screenshot from an extended round where we tried to make a break room proposed. The map, console and gym equipment could not be removed. They may be removed in any suggestions or they may not, depending on how people feel. And that is that, a relatively minor attempt to spruce up the brig and standardize it a bit more to be in line with other departments and give the upper z-level some more use.
  7. The same could be said for other things. What legitimate reason could you have for bringing a cat to work? The only legitimate reason I could see for a dog would be if you required a seeing-dog or such. A bit of freedom is given in things like this to help drive forward roleplay. As for the threat it may pose, it has been trained, and while that may not eliminate all things related to it, the cage exists for a reason on top of that as an extra level of protection from it 'just in case'.
  8. BYOND key: CommanderXor Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Nearly two years now, I believe. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Because I always found command roleplay to be fun and exciting since you helped drive the round forward and ultimately helped antagonist gimmicks and events. Not to mention generally seeing the characters develop over time was fun. So ultimately because it's a fun thing to juggle around with. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora because it was the largest HRP server at the time that I could play on, with Polaris being dead-hour constantly for me due to timezones, Aurora appealed to me with its more-than-low-RP nature and an almost constant high population. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I've got a handful of notices and I believe two bans on record. Mostly minor stuff with the heaviest punishment being a 3-day ban. Other than that, nothing really major or concerning, unless the staff thinks so. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay ultimately is assuming the role of something or someone in a fixed - or sometimes unfixed - universe and attempting to drive a story involving them. It's about having fun, while at the same time creating something realistic, believable, and in canon. People should be able to look at it, see that it is a realistic thing and get immersed in something fun. It isn't about hard-lining or elitism, but rather for everyone to help drive forward entertainment. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to help maintain a solidified responsible person in a department. A CMO is there to make sure people are treated, a CE to ensure the engine is set up and the station functions. They're also there to help uphold cohesion and help new players in their department. Another purpose is a sort of guiding-hand for rounds. They're expected to help further the round through their department and to help drive forward any events with assistance from Central, usually with the announcements they send. Overrall the OOC purpose of them is to help drive forward a round, maintain their department to a standard that keeps the round functioning and ultimately make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The responsibilities of a whitelisted player are similar to the actual purpose. They are expected to be more in line with the rules than normal and are typically under a larger scope of scrutiny. They're also expected to be more 'fair' in terms of their interactions both as antag and non-antag. Instantly shutting down someone without any real room to allow for it to progress is frowned upon and using their extended access to just murder is right out. Basically, they're expected not to be elitists, but rather help foster actual roleplay and allow gimmicks progress when believable. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? Currently, there is a massive Lii'dra threat into Tau Ceti region, with the attack on New Gibson and the assaults on the Aurora along with the visits from Purpose. There is, of course, some minor fluff about raiding fleets but that's in Sol and not related to Tau Ceti. This generally has placed a great deal of pressure on military and security personnel throughout the Tai Ceti region. This has resulted in Wasp being placed in a higher place of authority given the need for more logical and sound strategies and preparation in the event should the Lii'dra attack a NanoTrasen vessel again. Thus Wasp was promoted to a higher role in internal security. Having originally been stationed on the NDV Icarus, they have now been re-transferred to the NSS Aurora to help organize the security team should any Lii'dra arise once more on the station. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? I plan on making Wasp a Head of Security. Possibly make an IAA character, and maybe promote one of my engineers to CE. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Wasp - HoS Amber - CE A New Character - IA How would you rate your own roleplaying?: As said on all my previous applications I view myself as an alright/average roleplayer. I started in HL2RP on Garry's Mod and I'm used to more serious/word driven roleplay than the mechanically driven ones in SS13. But I've gotten used to it slowly, even if others don't roleplay as much I adore settling down and typing out actions when I can. I started off in Bay, and moved to Polaris before coming to Aurora given the low-population count on Polaris. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes. Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. Extra notes: I made Wasp specifically for this application, since that is allowed from what I have been told.
  9. Greetings. This will be a sort of a CYOA-RPG. It is set in 1979, with a sudden alien invasion occurring. The player is the Commander of a Office of External Security facility. The OES is an independent organization and is given a great deal of freedom. There will be missions and mechanics. Abilities, health, research, construction and the like. I will attempt to use poses to help add to the environment, however, this does mean there will be many aliens and characters from other canon settings. This does not mean they are from those in the RP itself, so artistic freedom will be used. The same is given for weapons and technology that would not exist in 1979. This will be chalked off as experimental weapons and tech from the RnD department. Never the less, let us begin. ---===--- Somewhere along the Greenland coast The air inside the facility is frosty but less so than outside. Armed guards stand around the interior, giving nods to you as you pass by. Eventually, you come down a large corridor filled with various doors and a large set of automatic doors at the far end of the hall. Stepping inside you see various monitors and a large screen of the world on the far end. People in uniforms sit around tapping at various things. A gray-haired man with a beret turns to you as you enter. "Ah, you must be the Commander. Welcome to Homeplate. I am Director Harlech, the link between you and the rest of the site. I handle the staff, special operations and any special projects we may wish to implement. I'll notify you of any important situations as they unfold as well. I am sure you're aware that the situation is dire with thousands of unknown contacts in orbit. The majority of the satellite grid is down but we're scraping by. Supplies are mostly stable, at least food and fuel wise. The development staff is keeping all our mechanical works operational." He turns to the map, tapping at one of the keyboards. The screen flickers and the countries disappear before the world is a mere gray slate with lines, with a small blue dot up in Greenland. "This is what it looks like so far. The aliens have landed on the surface of the planet yet, so we're keeping the grid clear. International relationships are frigid at best but given the threat of a total extinction event, they've promised not to bomb each other. We're trying to set up some supply-lines between them so we can be more effective and it is partially working. We've got some fighter craft up, not a whole lot, only two interceptors. We'll be able to get more later, at least. We've assembled a strike team, One-Alpha, for any ground side responses. On that note..." He flicks at the monitor once more, the view changing to three rifles up against a wall. "We've got most of the specialist weapons down and ordered, but the main rifle for our squads need to be organized. So far the Belgiums, Russians, and Americans are offering us copies of their weapons. We have to pick one for our unit. Each has their own advantages Commander, so I would pick carefully. What should we order?" FN-FAL - 4-5 Damge, 20 rounds(4 turns worth of ammo), Burst Fire(Fire 10 rounds, 8-10 damage), semi-automatic. AK-47 - 2-4 Damage, 30 rounds(6 turns worth of ammo), Full-Auto Burst(Fire 15 rounds, +3 to hit, 6-8 damage), reliable(Able to reroll jamming effect), semi-automatic. M-16 - 2-4 Damage, 30 rounds(6 turns worth of ammo), Full-Auto Spray(Fire 20 rounds, +3 to hit, 7-9 damage), jamming-prone(-1 to hit), semi-automatic. Director Harlech turns back to you, crossing his arms behind his back once more. "Ah, also, Commander? I believe the Research Director and Head of Development want to see you in their labs. Likely to get everything set up for you. However, let us get One-Alpha geared up. If you would follow me to the barracks..." Harlech then leads you down several floors of the facility until you reach a hall leading to the barracks. As you enter, a squad stands fast by the side. "Commander, this is One-Alpha. Scarecrow, Goldie, Tick, Viper, and Hawk. We've got everything we need for them but we need to decide who is who. Supplies are limited with a squad size this small so again, pick carefully on what we assign." Harlech then passes you a notepad and a marker. What roles do you assign, and to who? You can have a maximum of 1 specialized role. You must pick between either a support gunner or a field medic. You must pick between either a designated marksman or close range specialist. Rifleman - Rifle, M1911(7 rounds((2 turns worth)) 1-3 damage), basic armour(25 HP), no abilities. Support Gunner - M60(100 rounds((10 turns worth of ammo)) 3-4 damage), M1911(7 rounds((2 turns worth)) 1-3 damage), basic armour(25 HP), suppressive barrage(Use one turns worth of ammo per turn, target suffers -5 to hit and is automatically hit if moved.), anti-tank shot(Single-shot LAW. Deals 30 damage) Field Medic - MP5(30 rounds((3 turns worth)) 2-3 damage), M1911(7 rounds((2 turns worth)) 1-3 damage), basic armour(25 HP), medical kit(Heals 5 health per use. 4 uses) Designated Marksman - M14(20 rounds((4 turns worth)) 3-4 damage), M1911(7 rounds((2 turns worth)) 1-3 damage), basic armour(25 HP), precise fire(+5 to hit, 3 turn cooldown), from above(Passive, +3 to hit and +1 damage when above a target) Close-Range Specialist - SPAS-12(8 rounds((2 turns worth)) 5-6 damage, -5 to hit beyond 20m), M1911(7 rounds((2 turns worth)) 1-3 damage), basic armour(25 HP), close the gap(Able to run 20m and still fire, 3 turn cooldown), baton charge(Able to run 20m, automatically hits target within range with a ASP Baton, 2-3 damage) Director Harlech glances over the squad once more, and then to you. "I believe that is all, Commander. I would see the heads of staff in their labs as soon as possible. I will notify you if anything arises that requires your attention." And thus, he leaves you in the barracks with several tasks. What rifle will be picked? Who gets what assignment in the squad? Do you head down to see the Heads of Staff?
  10. I understand that it's a bit of a weird thing to apply for, and to bring to work. The IC reasoning being that it needs constant care and thus he can't leave it at home every time he heads to work. It is meant to be well trained and thus wouldn't cause any sort of danger to others, and the glove is there to safely handle it. It's brought to ensure he can keep an eye on it and care for it. The same could be said for many things people bring onboard. Military uniforms and ID? Cat carriers full of kittens? A full blown dog? Not to mention Falconry is a semi-popular thing in lore. Elyra's wiki page mentions Falconry under popular sport. I know Richter isn't from there, but he has visited there in the past plenty of times and it isn't far fetched to assume the local culture may have rubbed off on him a bit.
  11. BYOND Key: CommanderXor Character name: Sean Richter Item name: Falconry Glove, Red-tailed Hawk and a cage. Why is your character carrying said item to work? Richter took up Falconry as a hobby over the past few months. Mainly within the confines of Mendell City and the small areas of greenery that it was allowed. He was always interested in avian and insectoid life and thus took the hobby up as a way to interact with intelligent birds. Crows and ravens tend to be illegal to own, thus a red-tailed hawk for falconry being the next best thing. He regularly trains and feeds the thing. However, given the distance between Mendell City and the NSS Aurora, he has taken it to himself to bring the bird with him to keep it fed and hydrated during the long trips back and forward, and to make sure nothing could happen to it while he was away. It also acts as a sort of morale booster to himself, as even if he is working alone late in an evening shift, or in a stressing shift he can always find comfort in his bird. Item function(s): Three things. Falconry Glove: Probably a single sprite glove, similar to the power-fist as it only covers one hand. Could be used to click on the Hawk to have it land, and could either be put in a cage or carry it around without it fluttering around the place. Could possibly make it so firearms can't be used to help balance/have some fluff? Red-tailed Hawk/Talon: Pretty much just a resprited parrot that isn't able to talk. Might screech or make other noises. Able to be clicked on with the glove to be carried or put away. Falconry Cage: Just a brass cage that does nothing but acts as a container for the hawk, maybe a spawning method for round start. Item description: Falconry Glove: 'A heavy green glove. Seems padded and impractical, what could it be for?' Red-tailed Hawk/Talon: 'A large bird of prey. Seems remarkably well trained. A small tag on its leg identifies it as 'Talon', contact info is also imprinted on the tag. Contact Sean Richter if lost.' Brass Cage: 'A brass cage with a hinged door. A 'wooden' perch is visible inside along with a small container of water and bird food. A small plaque underneath the cage door identifies it as 'Talon'.' Item appearance: I do not have any sprites for the items, sadly. If requested, I can try and sprite them but I am not good at spriting and they will likely look bad. So if anyone could help/do them, that would be appreciated. Otherwise, have some reference images for them. How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? Interactions with the crew will come in multiple forms, and through that help stimulate roleplay. A bird is typically an uncommon sight on a space station, and a hawk even more so at that. However, Falconry is an old art that is still done to this day and thus will help provide roleplay with people inquiring on what it is, where it came from and such. Richter will be able to show off Talon, talk about them and discuss his hobby with those who are interested. He also may use it and encounter other situations involving it. Hawks are a carnivorous bird of prey and thus he can visit the kitchen and try and convince the chef to spare some fresh meat to feed his bird. He could also attempt to get synth/biomeat from botany. He may help 'hunt' with it to clear up things like mice or other minor pests. It won't be coded out but can always be roleplayed out. He may even attempt to get medical checkups for it if medical was having a slow day and willing. Overall, I believe it will allow a great amount of roleplay with the crew, and even with others outside of his own department. Cargo to order food for it. Botany or the kitchen for meat. Medical for checkups, and so on. It allows a unique and interesting exchange to happen with others, that I believe will overall drive roleplay with Richter, and others. Additional comments: I understand that the topic of custom pets/mobs is a hot one, and I'm willing to help negotiate with staff on any methods they may want to come up with to allow the Hawk/Talon into the server for Richter. Perhaps restrictions, or making it just an item instead of a resprited parrot. I am also aware I do not have sprites, and that is because I am not good at spriting, but I can have a crack at it, even if I am horrible at such things if staff want me to try.
  12. This is absolutely untrue. I spoke to both of you and let you both in. I set you on Gonzalez with a Dominate command earlier because he was assisting the captain. I will have to double check with staff on the logs, but you didn't say a single thing outside of medical before the domination command popped up and you walked off. Wordlessly dominating me to murder the CMO wasn't very fair. Neither was instantly going for lethals in the HoP line or using slugs instantly in the captain's office, but I digress. I am merely giving my side of the events in hopes of clearing anything up for staff. I am not pointing fingers and saying anyone should be punished. EDIT: I talked to someone and got the logs, as seen below. You said about one, or two things, before giving a kill dominate order. Not pointing fingers or anything still, just clearing that part up.
  13. I played Razev that round. I didn't directly witness the ERT besides their storming into medical as I was critically injured. However, I will explain what I witnessed this round in hopes of clearing up one or two things if anyone has some questions. The round started off pretty standard, nothing much happening. I believe Carmichael was sucking blood in the various tunnels secretly. Medical was holding a blood donation drive since so many people came in with a lack of it. After a while, I hear that the HoS had been attacked. Ran to the compactor and found that the HoS had sucked blood from Carmichael and was now green. They're claiming everything is fine so I drop the issue and head off, but have to attend to them in medical per captain's orders for examination. Schev is released and walks off to who knows where. Carmichael asks to see the CMO and they agree. Gonzales asks me to stand outside his office just in case. I'm standing outside until I hear a baton activate. Borg/AI opens the door and I find Carmichael standing infront of Gonzales, who was backed up against a wall. Gonzales rushes to me before Carmichael says 'cover your ears'. He then explodes all the windows and lights using the screech and teleports away. I alert for backup, and watch. He then grabs Gonzales and starts sucking, I rush forward to baton him as he was actively attacking a command member now after blowing up stuff. However, he vamps Gonzales. I get Carmichael in cuffs, before Schev shows up. Gonzales, now in a blood-hunger mode, is going around hitting walls down and trying to attack a CSI for blood. So I focus on him as Schev grabs the cuffed Carmichael and walks off. Later on, they're both back, with Carmichael now uncuffed. I make a note of it and she says 'he escaped'. An obvious lie since they were together. Anyway, I report it to the captain who asks them to the HoP's line. They hand over their ID, and the Captain informs them they were being suspended. They say they'll regret that and instantly open fire with lethals, prompting us to retreat. Fast forward, we're held up in the captain's office organizing a Red Alert, before Carmichael and Shev run-in with shotguns, packing buckshot and slugs. We call an ERT and they open fire on us, causing internal bleeding for me due to a slug/buckshot to the groin. We bolt in and they run off for a bit. A borg comes in to help me, before they blow it up, causing more shrapnel damage to myself. Eventually, they turn the RD as well, who then starts bashing into the room trying to kill us/open it up for them. A shootout occurs before the ERT arrives and I presume drove them from the bridge. Gonzales arrives and takes me to medical for help. However, Vira is outside the medical bay lobby. Gonzales tries to talk to her, but she ignores both him and me, and instead wordlessly dominates me to quote, 'rip the CMO to shreds'. A wordlessly, no RP kill order. So, I attack Gonzales and he flees. Five minutes later I'm 'back to normal'. However, Carmichael passes by in medical, with ERT hot on his toes and I see him get gunned down in a gunfight. I did not get to witness the death of the HoS or RD however. All three people in the current complaint at some point over the round actively tried to murder the Captain and security. I'm not sure why they expected to get scotts free from the ERT who came to clean up the situation. But, that's my account of the events, as I saw them over the round. I was involved a fair bit up until the actual ERT arrived to take over.
  14. I mean, that's reasonable. But they're being formed the moment people notice danger and being allowed by admins under a vague 'they were scared' blanket. Even when they chase them down for a kill the moment they appear. Was this related to the cult round earlier today by any chance?
  15. You don't see the problem because you're in the timezone most people play on so you don't have to deal with dead-hour. However, for some of us that aren't Americans or Europeans, we have to play during dead-hour otherwise we have to stay up to 3 AM. Limiting gamemode choices like this severely hampers the non-American and non-European playerbase.
  16. This is not how it works. This is not how anything works. If you have less game modes it doesn't mean you have more chances to pick secret extended. It's all weighed meaning that secret extended will have the same chance of getting picked compared to other gamemodes. Nothing changed about it's weight. No, that's a straight up lie. When secret is rolled, the game picks from a pool of what it can. Each game mode has the minimum amount of players needed for it, and if there isn't that many on, it will not pick it. Let us look at the current player requirements for each game mode. Of course, barring the mixed game modes. As we can see, you can play quite a few game modes during low pop. Granted they may not be the best but with a good antag you can spin a good story. Now, I've gone ahead and edited the image to show your new suggestion. The changes you've proposed have been done in red. Notice how that if you have less than 6 players, the only two game modes the server will ever roll will be extended and traitor? Yeah. This means that low-pop rounds with less than <6 players will do nothing but extended or traitor. I can't support this idea when it utterly fucks over everyone when the sun goes down for the playerbase and they go to sleep. Granted, this may not seem like a big issue for people who play during high-pop. But for people like me, and other Aussies and the likes, we can only really play during low-pop, and to have all options barring traitor and extended be barred, it isn't fun. So I still stand by my decision to -1 this.
  17. Normally I would be in support of such an idea, however, I must side with Trazz. The current population means lowpop is going to be secret-extended every round. Until the player base increases during low-pop I can not be in favour of this. -1
  18. I've only really dealt with Sunny on the server, but all encounters have been great, antag and non-antag alike. They seem to know the lore for the species they play and the general atmosphere and they're fun to be around. The application itself looks solid to me, overall I'd love to see Doxx make and handle a Vaurca character as I'd be interested in the RP from them. +1
  19. As far as I'm aware you don't have to use a pre-made character you've played to apply for. Back on my application Matt even said that it's fine if I made a character specifically for the application itself. So while it is a good idea to have a well-known character to apply with you can easily make a new one specifically for it. The quote being sean seen here. As for the application itself, I've seen Hujsak around a handful of times and he didn't seem like a bad person, so I would like to see how they fare as a Head of Staff. Along with the application being good and no major faults - barring the age thing as pointed out by others - and thus I give this a +1.
  20. Hi! I'll try and break down some things you've asked to hopefully help expand on it a bit. On the wiki page it says that the Gukuzan teach alot of religion but doesn't specify which and I can't find a mention of Kiazoi on either the notable Unathi nor religion so I assume it's up to debate on which they teach. I'm going to assume that the orphanage likely leaned towards Sk'akh given its unofficial state religion status. She grew up adopting many of its teachings since she was at the orphanage since practically birth, given them a lot of time to work the teachings into her. She'll have a strong dislike towards synthetics, and very much have a Do-Not-Borg order placed on her own medical record, along with no prosthetic limbs being allowed to be administered to her. She pretty much sticks to her teachings and remains a 'normal' woman, cooking and cleaning. She'll very much stay away from non-Unathi as well, given the dislike the religious doctrine has for such, probably even finding it hard to make friends with non-Unathi. As for the Azure 'prize' question, she probably has been courted a fair few times by other Unathi but given the religious teachings of Sk'akh prize itself on arranged marriages between clans as a sort of political tool she has turned down any attempts to be wedded as she doesn't have a clan name to herself yet. Of course, now that she is out of the ward she might be more open to such if a powerful status rich Unathi took interest she might consider it. I hope the answers are satisfactory and if you need anything else just ask.
  21. Hrm. I do agree that it's a bit overpowered. Perhaps, however, we simply nerf it, and we have an energy drink that is like the current one as a traitor item in the uplink? Maybe replace the wizard beer spell with energy drinks for the memes.
  22. Perhaps make it so only certain weapons can instantly delimb? Like an energy sword may take a hit or two, but if you're using something like an energy glave with force gloves, it shouldn't have such a restriction.
  23. Correct, hence why the last name is Gukuzan in this case. Thanks for the feedback. I decided to make an orphan Gukuzan for my first character since I thought it would be interesting to play someone who has been taught since early birth to follow the classic Unathi teachings, along with the religious element. A rather conservative character, instead of anything too fancy. You know, establish someone that would be well grounded in the current lore/setting.
  24. BYOND Key: CommanderXor Character Names: Sean Richter, Rosey Woods, Edward Cane, Jackson Holiday, Romeo Patton, Tallow Winters, Jess Flanderen, O.I.U-156, Ka'Akaix'Mizor C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Vizea C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Yava C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Tela C'thur, Talon, Chemzie, Hawk, Hark, Amber. Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Blue/Azure Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always wanted to make a character that was a Unathi, but I never felt like I would be able to properly play a non-human in the past so I never bothered to actually apply for them. However, recently having played both Vaurca and IPCs, I've worked up the courage to play more alien races. I believe that there would be something fun about playing a reptilian humanoid that is typically honor and caste/class bound and the possible things that may occur from such both by my character, and from others interacting with them. Ultimately it boils down to wanting to play something that isn't your average human or cold-calculating robot. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, there are various differences. Looking at them purely biologically you obviously have to account for the species-difference. They dislike cold, much like other reptilian animals and are obviously largely carnivorous barring the odd decoration/garnish. This can help spiral roleplay along as they may ask the chef to prepare more meat-rich food, may hunt pests onboard if they were in the security department. They may shy from things like the cold-room and may seek out warmer sections of the station hypothetically. You then, of course, have the social differences. Unathi seem to be very rigid in their social castes, with honor and loyalty to the clan and superiors. First names being taboo unless trusted and the likes. Subtle body language such as thumping their tails in annoyance rather than typically speaking their troubles out vocally. Chuffing, sampling the air and other various things help make them seem more foreign than a normal human and can create unique roleplay if a human didn't understand, or even if a Unathi didn't understand a human gesture. Character Name: Yezarye Gukuzan Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Yezarye was born on Moghes, but was abandoned at birth by her unknown parents. She was placed in an orphanage running under the Gukuzan title. Most of her childhood was mostly related to around the usual domestic duties women would have been expected to undertake. Cleaning, cooking and general other upkeep of a family and household. Religious teaching was harshly enforced, she learned to write and read, albeit only the bare minimum needed to do her duties. Often she was ridiculed for the fact she was not the standard scale color, but rather a deep azure. This could have helped contribute to her not getting adopted throughout her stay in the orphanage. Never the less she kept getting educated, instilling the traditional values of the Unathi caste and religious life for a woman of her nature all while the bills for her upbringing continued to rack up. Eventually, she reached the age of 18 and having not been adopted she was pressured into signing a contract with NanoTrasen like many other Gukuzan orphans. She lacked any major skills that most people entering into a field with NanoTrasen would have, and such she had to work with what she had and was given a dual-contract to work as both cleaning staff and kitchen staff on NanoTrasen vessels. A majority of her earnings went straight back to the Gukuzan orphanage and what little she had left was spent on food and housing. With very little money to spend on herself, she has entered a sort of cycle. Constantly reminded of her place, cooking and cleaning to try and make a living all while it is sent back to Moghes. The teachings of both her social place and religious knowledge constantly keeping her in line, all while the liberalism of Tau Ceti dangles in front of her face, trying to twist and bend her. What do you like about this character? I like the conflict that may arise within her at the clash between the old teachings on Moghes, coupled with the religious element and that of the Tau Ceti/Human democracy and equality. How may it play out, to constantly clean and serve food to her superiors and the crew, while some may urge her to seek out better education, while her entire childhood tries to discourage any such things and the internal conflict that could build from it. Trying to play within the socially accepted bounds of Unathi culture would also be a fun thing to handle with her as she tries to follow her teachings and remain proper. Seeing how the world affects her will be a slow, but enjoyable process. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like in my past applications, I view myself as a mediocre roleplayer. I enjoy a good story and I frequented the serious roleplay servers on Clockwork Half Life 2 before they fell out of popularity. I started rather rigid and liking larger actions but I soon moved to SS13 HRP servers after CWHL2RP stopped being active. I originally started in Baystation, and then to Polaris before settling on Aurora. While I would love to see large actions like in CWHL2RP, a lot of things on SS13 are mechanically spoken for and thus I let mechanics speak for combat and the likes unless both parties are attempting to craft a story via text. Otherwise, I enjoy passively world and character building with others. Notes: N/A.
  25. On the topic of removal of lunchboxes, what about Vaurca? A majority of Vaurca players - from what I have seen, of course - have lunchboxes since they can stock k'ois waffles and fried k'ois. The chef isn't able to make k'ois related things most of the time, and I highly doubt science would be willing to give up their limited stock of k'ois to feed the hungry ant-men.
