I was QM this round, and holy fuck was this annoying. It was distracting, it was immersion breaking. I wasn't sure if I could ahelp or not over it, but man I was mad. Limit this shit to 20.

I think the presence of traitors could really amp up revolution rounds. Almost every rev round I've seen fizzles out before it gets started because the revs don't have something to rev over, and the loyalists don't have anything to react to. But with traitors, just imagine. Maybe revs will protest the prison conditions once the traitor is caught, if they scream for help on the radio. Maybe the traitor will abduct people, and the revs will uprise because CC didn't even notice people missing. Etc. this is a great idea.

I haven't RPed with Jane Pyre in a long time, we're talking months. But I remember her being prone to low RP, down to ignoring dialogue entirely and silently completing her work. Which, might be in character, but idunno. She's also proven to be competent at her job, as a plus. So, I could get behind this as long as you're still RPing with people. +1

I'm able to express my opinions like anyone else, aggressive as they may be. I'm not even really being directly rude or insulting to anyone. So let me just summarize my feelings instead of making this a back and forth. -We have two dog pets already on the station, Ian already covers the 'small, cute dog' category, while St. Colombo covers the 'big dog' slot. -Adding a third would start to oversaturate the station with dog pets. -There is already a science 'pet', but if you want to replace it, please replace it with something a little more thematically distinct, even if it's not a slime. -I really don't like pugs It should be a grey parrot named Newton.

Less so now, but as a Perma-Sec player I can tell you that at the beginning of July, and late June we had a massive influx of shitters. We had at least six repeat greytiders who kept returning round after round after round. I think they banned most already though. Why do you think removing assistants is going to fix this? Do you want them to start joining into roles like engineering and science? Or chemist. *shudders*

I really like the waitress idea especially. Cargo doesn't need much, except maybe someone who specializes in pressing the single button to melt shit. Every department could benefit from secretaries.

Some kinda error happened while my game was loading after a restart, and the walls were just... naked men. So enjoy!

What do YOU do when the server is down?

BRAINOS and I are actually checking that server out right now. Is it lame? It sounds lame. :C (still downloading resources) -
What do YOU do when the server is down?
Resilynn replied to Resilynn's topic in Off Topic Discussion
I miss Overwatch. I'm traveling for a month and my laptop can't do it. I also miss terrible things, because I'm staying with family in a very tiny house. -
I helicopter the status of the server, watch Jurassic Park, and nap, apparently.

Right, but what if we added real, in game, psychiatric consequences? There are real ones. It is called roleplay. Just because it is not a mechanic does not make it any less meaningful. In addition, it is not reasonable (despite how "interesting" it is) for a clone to spontaneously develop delusional schizophrenia after popping out of the vat. That is not how brains work. I want to defend this, a little bit. Cloning scans the body in its dead state and reconstructs it, but the most important part is the brain, right? That's why you need a brain for cloning, why people go MIF in game, etc. If a brain suffers from enough oxygen deprivation damage, someone is not clone-able, they're dead forever! That's how things already work. It makes sense, then, that some brains are on the edge of too damaged to clone, and then you really would expect to see psychiatric responses. That IS how brains work. I'm not saying give someone full blown schizophrenia. That's stupid, and I doubt most players even know what that really IS. I'm saying you could do a few things, maybe randomize them. 1. Anxiety messages appear like when you get fear from an anomoly: You want to run! You want to scream! You need to get away! 2. Blindness. 3. Deafness. 4. Muteness. 5, Memory loss: You cannot the last 1-5-10-20-100 years. Text would come up to establish this. 6. Partial paralysis. A limb doesn't work. 7. Synesthesia. Colors popping up, like with most drugs. And I understand the "there are real ones, it's called roleplay" thing, but obviously that's not working, else why are we even having this conversation? I thought this thread came about because people DON'T roleplay damage after cloning? This, I think, would push them to a little harder. It means there's a chance they would be severely hindered for the rest of the game in a way that makes sense but still allows for some interesting RP. It means they're getting text or mechanical reminders that they are definitely NOT okay after cloning.

Medical is already supposed to do this, but everyone is like "Kool I died, now let me continue shooting the antag." Right, but what if we added real, in game, psychiatric consequences?
-
What if we just made it regulation that all people who have been cloned must have a mandatory psychiatric evaluation afterward: we could even work some fun conditions in with flavor text: memory loss, muteness, even hallucinations. There'd be a rare chance of getting them: as rare as genetic damage (which should also still be an option). Doctors should be able to withhold IDs until after the evaluations. This would mean more RP, AND maybe psychiatrist wouldn't be useless job anymore.

I want to join in briefly and say I am also incredibly uncomfortable playing with someone who makes or excuses rape jokes. The joke may not have been made on our server or forum, but you defended it on our forum. Just joking is not a defense, you still said it, and it was a fucking horrible thing to say. I don't care if you're banned, really, but I wanted to make sure I spoke up.

compliment me about my characters

I can't tell one cat apart from the rest. Like. No matter how good the role players. #racism -
A new feed pops up, showing a cozy little room. There is a small bed, made but messed up, as if someone had been sitting on top of the blankets. A little cat snoozes on the edge of the screen. On the wall hang images from various expeditions: usually a group of college aged students and a small handful of adults, in front of a dig site or at some exotic location. The image moves suddenly, adjusting so that the bed is still barely in the frame, but now a small cluttered desk is also visible. Paperwork lays in stacks-- it is organized chaos, there are folders and sticky notes everywhere. A small woman who appears to be in her mid-thirties rises into the frame, cup of coffee in hand. She wears a large sweater, her blonde hair is messily tied in a pony tail. "Hey, um, not sure you remember me. We met a few days ago. Ellie Shoshanna, Quartermaster. I got you pizzas and helped you carry them? Once? I know, it's not much to remember by, sorry..." She sinks partially out of the frame, her face bright red.

Change the health display to show locational damage

I don't know anything about coding either, but it sounds like an awesome idea! -
Ahhhhhh! This was the funniest thing ever! What was better was that Ellie had a bottle of happy pills in her pocket. She gave one to the chemist to analyze so she knew whether to just throw them away or to report them to the HoS. So when you all came in she was 100000% convinced you guys were tipped off by the chemist that she had drugs, which were not hidden AT ALL. You nearly gave her a heart attack, but instead you gave her a cake.

I think access should be determined by what's required of the job: I could see HoS and CE having higher access than the others, they frequently need to get through different areas to do their job. The CMO is almost never out of medical, and I can't see a reason for the research director to have access to security, you know? As for HoP, I dunno where they'd fit into that. They seem to travel around a lot, but *shrug*.

[ACCEPTED] Zelmana's Head of Security Application
Resilynn replied to Zelmana's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I've run into Sean a few times. I recall one time he was warden, and the AI was all but screaming to drop all nonessential tasks because of a blob, and we still had such a long line in security because of all the paperwork the warden was doing... but hey, if that's this officer's thing, if he's stupidly by the books, well, that's a good thing for a HoS. Anywhoo, the roleplay has always been decent, so +1. -
BYOND key: Resilynn Character names: Lily Fiefer, Melody Nash, George Schmidt, Fernando Gonzales, Ellie Shoshana How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A little over a year now. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I play regularly in various roles. I have experimented in most departments and know what I enjoy best, but I'd like to become more involved with a more important job. Why did you come to Aurora?: BRAINOS told me about SS13 and it sounded neat. When I did a bit of reading on the various servers, Aurora consistently came up as the best RP server. I enjoy the RP, and even though some of my characters (like Schmidty) are less serious than others, I love interacting with other characters, making friends, and basically, feeling like some part of me is living life in space. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Of course. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is largely about catharsis: living a life you can't live yourself. But roleplay is also about fun. It's about characters and situations, solving challenges together, overcoming adversary, and getting (in my experience) a ton of great stories out of it. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: OOC, Heads of Staff are pillars of consistency in the game. They are generally experienced roleplayers who keep the high RP culture of the game going. They are expected not only to keep the station running, but also to serve as models for incoming players for what RPing looks like. They don't pull barely in-character wacky shenanigans, and their responses to situations make sense. They also, in a sense, train new players. I'd expect a HoS to in game show a new employee how to do their job, but a good HoS should probably also LOOC and go over game mechanics if someone seems to be having trouble. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Like I just explained, whitelisted characters teach, support, and set an example for other players. I think they also assist the moderators in reporting incidents. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Ellie Shoshanna Character age: 42 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Ellie Shoshanna comes from a reasonably affluent family on Earth. She began college young, at 17. Her BA is in biology, her Ph D. is in Archaeobotany. She excelled in school and managed to get her Ph D by the time she was 25. She initially worked in the field, but found that the long hours, remote locations, and dangerous conditions made her feel too exhausted, so she began a professorship once she turned 30. As a professor, she was in charge of leading field studies: taking students to different locations and teaching them how to take and document samples. She was in charge of a fairly large research project, so she got experience in hiring, allocating different jobs, managing grants and resources, etc. She married a professor of literature at the age of 32, and for a few years was very happy. Her research became mostly a desk job, managing students and postdocs. She divorced two years ago after finding about her husband's affair. She decided that she needed a change of scenery, so applied to Nanotrasen. She's interested in working on the new Aurora as HoP. It'll be different than her previous focus on research, but the Aurora is still a research station, and she's definitely gained the experience to do this. She is nervous about the move, but she is generally a very optimistic person, so she's hoping for the best. What do you like about this character?: Ellie is nice! She trusts and believes the best in people. She can border on naive, but she is very intelligent and also very by the books. She is by far the most vulnerable of my characters: she's more expressive and more personable than the others. What do you dislike about this character?: Pretty much the same stuff. She has so far been a bit too trusting and forgiving. Security once tackled her (when she was working as a xenoarchaeologist) for brining a harmless relic onto the main station. She was tased, and as she describes it: they can get pretty stressed sometimes. Her kindness and vulnerability can hinder her. I could never see her carrying a weapon, and she will always be the very last person to think violence is the right solution to a problem. I'm sure this will get her killed on this station. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She's intelligent, she's personable, she's very by the books, and she has a decent amount of experience in research management and human resources. She thinks before she reacts, and she's very attuned to the needs of the people around her. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10. I'm getting there. I've definitely gotten better over the last year. This is my first real online roleplaying experience. I'm an avid tabletop RPG player, but RPing over text is waaaay different. So I'm still learning. But I think I try to always keep my characters' motivations and speech patterns in mind, and I'm finally getting the hang of emoting. Extra notes: I know some of my characters, like Schmidty, are kind of silly and not very realistic. I mean, I still try to roleplay the character and he hasn't done anything SUPER stupid and unrealistic. I am not planning on playing this character like that. I'm planning on playing her like I have played her so far, like I play Lily Fiefer, Melody Nash, and Fernando: reasonable people doing their jobs in a reasonable way. Also, it should be noted that my roommates also play, and we occasionally have people come over and play with us, all on the same wifi so all at the same IP address. So there are more warnings on my account than I've actually gotten myself. The one on 2017-05-31 12:07:27 was not me. I think that's my only active one.
